[22:18] <ulatekh> Run the transcode twice, once with "-pass 1 -passlogfile passlog$$" and once with "-pass 2 -passlogfile passlog$$" -- that'll let it calculate, in the first pass, where the bits are most needed, and in the 2nd pass, will use that information to increase the quality where it's needed.

[22:53] <ulatekh> ffmpeg tends to have unreasonable built-in limits on q, like 2.  I go through all the trouble to make my videos look perfect, and then ffmpeg want to trash them.  I found that "-qmin 1 -lmin '1*QP2LAMBDA'" 2-step a long time ago and have been using it ever since.
