[11:30] <cbsrobot> j-b: about the dcp beamers ....
[11:31] <cbsrobot> I had a freind who connected a bluray to a dcp beamer and he said the colors looked like crap
[11:31] <cbsrobot> *friend
[11:31] <cbsrobot> so I'm not sure where the xyz -> rgb converstion happens exactly
[11:42] <Digidog> Hi! I am here on the latest ffmperg from git on Windows 7 and ask if there is any chance to set the pixel aspect ratio in ffmpeg while encoding video, or is just setting -aspect allone ok enough? I just registered that some video stream show off also PAR info in ffprobe, but some which I had encoded before sadly not. But they should, since the source had PAL widescreen pixels which I wanted to keep.
[11:44] <Digidog> Maybe its imagination only, but I think I see some distortion while the player streches the 16:9 flagged videoclip wihtout the PAR info, while the one with the correct PAR info stretches teh videoclip some better. But maybe it's just in my mind ...
[11:44] <Digidog> arg ... sorry for my typo
[11:46] <Digidog> Does anyone has any idea if the PAR flag for PAL widescreen pixels ( PAR=1.42 or 64/45 ) is really needed when the -aspect flag is set already to 16:9 ?
[11:46] <Digidog> I can'T find any mentioning of setting PAR in ffmpeg docs ....
[12:27] <Digidog> hm, it seems it is a codec problem here, some other codecs show off all info correctly but ffvhuff keeps restraining infos about PAR and colorspace, even if it says yuv420p correctly. A littel bit confusing for a qualtiy control freak like me ;-)
[12:29] <Digidog> Does anyone tested UtVideo for lossless video compression in an NLE workflow ?
[12:30] <michaelni> i thought we store and read aspect for avi, so this is a bit odd
[12:30] <michaelni> its ffvhuff in avi ?
[12:30] <michaelni> or something else
[12:30] <Digidog> no, your are right, its ffvhuff in avi
[12:32] <michaelni> just tried ... -aspect 2 -vcodec ffvhuff test.avi
[12:32] <Digidog> I know that the aspect info is enough actually, since the PAR is a math myth just summarising SAR/DAR, but I wonder why ffprobe doesn'T show it off like on others. Also colorspace info is missing on both, ffprobe and media info
[12:32] <michaelni> and aspect is in there
[12:32] <michaelni> ffprobe ?
[12:33] <michaelni> ffprobe says SAR 8:5 DAR 2:1 for the example aboive
[12:33] <Digidog> I know that the aspect info is enough actually, since the PAR is a math myth just summarising SAR/DAR, but I wonder why ffprobe doesn'T show it off like on others wher it mentions PAR additionally. Also colorspace info is missing on both, ffprobe and media info
[12:34] <Digidog> not a big deal actually, I just asked myself it there is sth going on behind. (<- control freak :) )
[12:34] <Tjoppen> uhm, PAR (aka sample aspect) is usually encoded explicitly in the essence. sometimes in the container too
[12:35] <Tjoppen> some containers, like MXF, list DAR though
[12:37] <michaelni> Hi Tjoppen
[12:37] <michaelni> can you take a look at "[FFmpeg-devel] [PATCH]: mxf: Fix frame layout values"
[12:37] <michaelni> ?
[12:37] <michaelni> it looks ok to me ...
[12:38] <michaelni> but i didnt check the spec and you know the code better and as you are already heree
[12:39] <michaelni> also theres: Reimar Döffinge (5.5K) [FFmpeg-devel] [PATCH] [HACK] mxfdec: support EIA-608 (closed caption subtitles).
[12:39] <Digidog> hm, I only know MXF from footage exchange between editing rooms. Can I encode this "shitty" (sorry) MPEG-PS footage here i help out somebody with into MXF containers to edit it in Avid? instead of into avi? But somehow this makes no sense, there will be no difference, right?
[12:39] <j-b> cbsrobot: not suprised, to be honest.
[12:41] <Compn> Digidog : mpeg video doesnt fit very well in avi container
[12:41] <Digidog> Compn: no, its encoded before (ffvhuff)
[12:42] <Compn> well then i dunno what formats avid supports that would be good for you :)
[12:43] <Digidog> Tjoppen: I would like to come back to what you sad: "PAR (aka sample aspect) is usually encoded explicitly in the essence. sometimes in the container too" ... that makes no sense to me, since this is only a flag, isn't it? a PAL widescreen frame with PAR of 1,4sth... sill onyl has the 720 color informations (called pixel) stored and stretches them on the computer screen
[12:43] <Digidog> *still only (typo)
[12:45] <Digidog> Compn: well :) thanks for helping, but I think I am a little bit to pushing here with my problem behind ;) All I wnat to make sure is, that I don't have additional conversion steps involved causing aliasing of the stored footage. I would like to have the most possible "discret" work flow for this crappy footage here :-P
[12:47] <Digidog> Another lesson I learned: "Don't say yes to people asking you to help them out with editing, before you have seen the footage" *facepalm*
[12:51] <Digidog> Hm ... no I guess I get what you mean, Tjoppen. Adobe Premiere and Avid still interpret the footage as PAR 1,09 but it should be 1,4587 instead ... damn ...
[12:52] <Digidog> I thought I could prevent another resizing step before editing, but maybe I must encode it to square pixels after deintelacing (QTGMC) thru .avs
[12:54] <av500> from random sampling all the people I know, nobody cares for aspect ratio
[12:54] <av500> they all happily watch 4:3 stretched to 16:9
[12:56] <kierank> i would have to agree there
[12:57] <Digidog> av500: the problem is, there is already a timeline where some of footage needs to get exchanged. SO it is sadly very important that the NLE interprets teh footage correctly as PAL widescreen PAR (1,4587...) The aspect ratio allone doesn't make it here. It only makes it play correctly in video players. It seems that avi or ffvhuff doesnt support additional PAR info set or maybe Tjoppen is right with what he sad.
[12:57] <kierank> people say i'm complaining unnecessarily when i fix the aspect ratio
[12:57] <av500> or the oversharping
[12:57] <av500> or the soap mode
[12:57] <Digidog> av500: kierank: ^^^
[12:57] <av500> I dont think AVI supports aspect ratio
[12:58] <av500> it assumed square pixels
[12:58] <av500> assumes
[12:59] <Digidog> av500: thats what I thought but maybe that's not correct. As I described above it already has assumed 1,09 pixels so it should have no problem to assume 1,4587 pixels. I think it
[13:00] <Digidog> I think I already did it with another codec before so I think the problem lies here under ffvhuff
[13:00] <Digidog> Let'S make sure we talk about PAR, not DAR.
[13:01] <Digidog> the encoded material is flagged correctly DAR 16:9 and all the players behave correctly. But NLE's give priority to PAR
[13:02] <Digidog> Thats why I cant exchange the footage easely in the timeline, which is set to PAR 1,4587 (PAL widescreen)
[13:12] <Compn> your problem is avid
[13:12] <Compn> use some other software
[13:13] <Compn> so easy to edit software with open source tools
[13:13] <av500> sed and dd

[17:54] <steeve> hey guys
[17:55] <steeve> anyone familiar with dvb-t mpegts ? thanks!
[18:03] <kierank> what exactly
[18:06] <steeve> the PTS for a packet
[18:06] <steeve> i'm trying to find it's time origin
[18:10] <kierank> what time origin
[18:10] <kierank> there is no such thing
[18:11] <kierank> the pts wraps round
[18:11] <steeve> ohhhh
[18:11] <steeve> that i didn't know
[18:11] <steeve> so is I record a TS stream
[18:11] <steeve> it's not possible to know the time it was recorded
[18:12] <steeve> except if i read TDT/TOT tables
[18:12] <av500> it wraps around every 26h
[18:12] <av500> roughly
[18:12] <steeve> good to know, thanks
[18:13] <av500> but
[18:13] <steeve> is there any way i can get the time when that packet was supposed to be displayed ?
[18:13] <av500> it could wrap any time
[18:13] <steeve> maybe not with the pts, but some other information ?
[18:13] <av500> broadcasters are free to wrap the time at any time
[18:13] <steeve> i see
[18:14] <steeve> they don't talk about that in the etsi documents i've read
[18:14] <kierank> timestamps are an mpeg thing
[18:14] <kierank> etsi is more implementation/metadata
[18:14] <kierank> why do you need to know the time it was recoreded
[18:15] <steeve> i'm dumping screenshots
[18:15] <steeve> from a stream
[18:15] <av500> then note the start time
[18:15] <steeve> and I want to name with datetime information
[18:15] <kierank> if there is a teletext stream you can pull the time out of that
[18:15] <Daemon404> steeve, are you just trying to, say "seek to 1 minute in from teh start of this .ts" ?
[18:15] <av500> or keep track during recording
[18:15] <av500> or teletext
[18:15] <steeve> av500: i'm pulling it from TDT/TOT frames
[18:16] <steeve> but the pts is unique for each program it seems
[18:16] <kierank> tdt is ok a as rought measure
[18:16] <kierank> rough*
[18:16] <steeve> well, unique... i mean the increments
[18:16] <steeve> Daemon404: i'm trying to get the absolute timestamp for each decoded frame
[18:16] <steeve> from a live TS stream
[18:16] <Daemon404> relative to what
[18:17] <av500> relative to the dawn of time
[18:17] <steeve> well, not relative, absolute, as in 2012-04-19-xx-xx-xx
[18:17] <steeve> yes
[18:17] <steeve> what i'm doing atm is using the current timestamp of the machine, but obviously that is not okay
[18:18] <kierank> well if your machine is recording the stream then it;s ok
[18:18] <steeve> indeed, but i was wondering is there was a "cleaner" solution
[18:19] <steeve> but I didn't know the pts was wrapping around
[18:19] <kierank> the teletext is theoretically the cleanest
[18:19] <kierank> because there should be one teletext packet per frame
[18:19] <steeve> oh
[18:19] <kierank> though they will be offset in the ts a bit
[18:20] <steeve> now the question being
[18:20] <steeve> how can i access the teletext packet?
[18:20] <steeve> from libav ?
[18:20] <kierank> doubt it
[18:20] <steeve> crap
[18:20] <kierank> you'd need a decoder
[18:20] <kierank> libzvbi has one i think
[18:20] <steeve> i'm using libdvbpsi to dump the EPG data
[18:22] <steeve> hum
[18:22] <steeve> i'm seeing CODEC_ID_VBI_TELETEXT and CODEC_ID_VBI_DATA in libavcodec
[18:23] <kierank> yes but you can't do anything with the data afaik
[18:23] <steeve> ohhh okay
[18:23] <kierank> you need an external decoder like libzvbi
[18:23] <steeve> ok so according to you the easiest way is to use the datetime.now()
[18:24] <kierank> well as you receive the mpegts
[18:24] <steeve> yes indeed
[18:24] <av500> while you record, note the file size every minute or so
[18:24] <av500> then, from the pos and pts in lavf, you can get absolute time
[18:25] <steeve> av500: hahaha, tricky, but smart !
[18:25] <av500> that's how I am :)
[18:25] <kierank> steeve: av500 is a smart man you know
[18:25] <av500> if you only have the ~26h wrap, you need only the start time of the recording
[18:25] <kierank> padding bits are no match for av500
[18:25] <steeve> well, both of you are smart men to me
[18:26] <av500> since you can unwrap
[18:26] <steeve> av500: so that means keeping count of pts wraps
[18:26] <steeve> but doable
[18:26] <av500> well, do you record for days?
[18:26] <steeve> hum... months :)
[18:26] <av500> in one file?
[18:26] <steeve> no no
[18:27] <av500> see
[18:27] <steeve> i'm not actually dumping the .ts
[18:27] <steeve> i'm only dumping epg and screenshots
[18:27] <av500> but then you are "live"
[18:27] <steeve> well, epg tdt tot, and screenshots
[18:27] <av500> use wallclock
[18:27] <steeve> yes
[18:27] <steeve> wallclock ?
[18:27] <av500> gettimeofday()
[18:27] <steeve> yep, I think i'm gonna do just that
[18:27] <av500> solved, next!
[18:28] <steeve> is the offset between dts and pts negligeable ?
[18:28] <steeve> negligible
[18:29] <steeve> the risk of gettimeofday() being ahead of the actual display
[18:29] <steeve> if it's < 500ms it's fine
[18:30] <av500> yes
[18:30] <steeve> sweet
[18:30] <steeve> you rock guys, thanks a bunch

[00:33] <sanitypassing> can anyone tell me how to use ffmpeg to downscale a video?
[00:33] <sanitypassing> I want to downscale 1080 to 720, but retain the same options (audio, container, etc)
[00:56] <taqattack> sanitypassing: your ffpmpeg would look like "-i <inputfile> -vcodec copy -acodec copy -s 1280x720 -f <container = mp4,flv> <outputfile>"
[00:58] <taqattack> Why do I get frame drops? http://pastebin.com/x13M2U6f

[01:09] <DelphiWorld> do these projects exist in the ffmpeg repo?
[01:09] <burek> ffmpeg repo?
[01:09] <DelphiWorld> burek: repository
[01:09] <DelphiWorld> burek: i mean associated with ffmpeg, or ceparate projects?
[01:13] <DelphiWorld> any answer? :| :*
[01:13] <burek> no :)
[01:13] <DelphiWorld> burek: no for what :P
[01:14] <DelphiWorld> burek: are you a dev?
[01:18] <DelphiWorld> hello saste
[01:19] <saste> hi
[01:20] <DelphiWorld> saste: please, can you help me? not a ffmpeg issue maybe, byut a project that use ffmpeg :)
[01:22] <saste> DelphiWorld: don't ask to ask, just ask, personal help requests are considered rude as we're not an help desk
[01:22] <saste> (and here is 1am in the morning)
[01:22] <DelphiWorld> saste: sory for that :P
[01:22] <DelphiWorld> saste: i know italia;)
[01:22] <DelphiWorld> saste: let me pb
[01:25] <DelphiWorld> saste: http://dpaste.com/734007/
[01:26] <saste> CODEC_TYPE_AUDIO => deprecated and removed one year ago
[01:26] <saste> you need either to update the source code, or if that's not possible you can use and old ffmpeg version
[01:26] <saste> any version before 0.7 should be fine
[01:26] <DelphiWorld> saste: recomand a release please ? if you can; otherwise, let me stuck with it.
[01:27] <saste> i said, 0.7
[01:27] <saste> or you can try with the oldabi branch which is a bit more updated
[01:27] <DelphiWorld> saste: how can get a old version? i'm on git :(
[01:27] <saste> sorry i mean *before* 0.7
[01:27] <saste> DelphiWorld: then learn how to use git ;-)
[01:28] <saste> git will show you all the branches, but i don't remember the command
[01:28] <DelphiWorld> saste: is 0.7.12 good?
[01:28] <DelphiWorld> saste: git branch -
[01:28] <DelphiWorld> saste: git branch -r
[01:28] <saste> not sure maybe it's too recent, i never remember if the big bump was with 0.7 or 0.8
[01:28] <saste> yes
[01:28] <saste> with oldabi you're safe
[01:29] <DelphiWorld> saste: i got 0.6.2
[01:29] <saste> that's fine as well
[01:39] Action: DelphiWorld slaps burek around a bit with a large trout
[01:39] <burek> ^^
[01:40] <DelphiWorld> burek: :)
[01:41] <DelphiWorld> can ffmpeg server do multicast?
[01:41] <burek> yes
[01:41] <buhman> how can I stop ffmpeg from multithreading?
[01:41] <burek> buhman, -threads 1 ?
[01:41] <buhman> I tried threads 1, but there seem to be multiple ffmpeg processes spawned regardless
[01:41] <DelphiWorld> saste: make install to install it, right?
[01:41] <burek> ffmpeg processes or threads?
[01:42] <buhman> I'm doing ffmpeg -i {} -target ntsc-dvd -aspect 16:9 -sameq -threads 1 {.}-vob.mpg
[01:45] <buhman> yet each ffmpeg process spawns 8 other threads
[01:45] <buhman> processes*
[01:47] <burek> maybe just remove -threads altogether
[01:47] <buhman> that's what I started with
[01:49] <buhman> http://sprunge.us/OOgO
[01:49] <buhman> 8 ffmpeg processes which each spawn 9 more
[01:49] <buhman> that seems like a waste of resources
[01:49] <buhman> yet when I just start a single instance of ffmpeg, it doesn't fully utilize all 16 execution units
[01:49] <buhman> not even close
[01:50] <buhman> single-threaded instances of ffmpeg seem to be much more efficient
[01:53] <burek> buhman, then start 1 instance with -threads 17
[01:54] <buhman> but each of the sub-processess only use maybe 1% cpu
[01:54] <buhman> seems like a waste of process-scheduling
[01:54] <buhman> and the parent ends up using possibly 250% cpu
[01:55] <buhman> when it should be doing 1600%
[01:55] <burek> which version of ffmpeg are you using
[01:55] <DelphiWorld> sacarasc: yet another error with 0.6.5 http://dpaste.com/734021/
[01:55] <buhman> http://sprunge.us/PCdZ
[01:56] <buhman> perhaps it's too old?
[01:56] <buhman> apr 12... that's dinosauric right?
[01:56] <burek> buhman, it doesn't matter when is it compiled, but how old the source code is
[01:57] <burek> yours is 7 days old
[01:57] <buhman> I would assume a git pull was done the same time the compile was
[01:57] <burek> how did you manage to have git-2012-04-13 version compiled on april 12th? :D
[02:00] <burek> buhman, -threads 1 will make it non multithreaded definitely
[02:00] <burek> now, why do you have 8 ffmpeg processes, I don't know
[02:01] <buhman> burek: different timezones?
[02:22] <DelphiWorld> what is sfix?
[02:37] <DelphiWorld> Yasm...
[05:24] <gustavo_cm> Hello. Does anyone know if I can get with "libvorbis" the same effect I get with "libx264 -vpre max"?
[05:24] <gustavo_cm> With this, I set the compression to max and speed to min.
[05:28] <Plorkyeran> afaik libvorbis doesn't have any speed/quality tradeoff options
[05:30] <gustavo_cm> Plorkyeran: ok, thanks!
[09:50] <RobertNagy> "Email the list and indicate the location of the sample." is that referring to the ffmpeg user mailing list, or the bug tracker?
[10:45] <biscii> hey guys
[10:46] <biscii> can anyone point me to the command where i can segment mp3 audio -> iOS format ?
[12:54] <Guest93874> hi there, this is Rohit here, I am trying to cross compile ffmpeg for ARM, on a Ubuntu 10.04
[12:54] <Guest93874> ./configure --cross-prefix=arm-none-linux-gnueabi- --extra-ldflags=-static --target-os=linux --arch=x86
[12:54] <Guest93874> but i get en error stating the following - "arm-none-linux-gnueabi-gcc is unable to create an executable file.
[12:54] <Guest93874> C compiler test failed."
[12:54] <Guest93874> may i request for your help, any information is very appreciated
[15:19] <Mosselmaniac> hi all
[15:19] <Mosselmaniac> i have a mp4 file, i want to add an image to it for test purposes. It can be a jpg or png, i don't mind for now
[15:20] <Mosselmaniac> if i export (to jpg) a screenshot of a specific time of the mp4, it works correctly, so ffmpeg is properly installed
[15:20] <Mosselmaniac> i'm on a shared hosting using php, so it's pretty hard to debug now
[15:21] <Mosselmaniac> do i really need to use a watermark.so file or something? or can i do without it?
[15:21] <Mosselmaniac> i got now: ffmpeg -i nieuw.mp4 -vhook '/usr/lib/vhook/watermark.so -f test.png -m 1 -t 222222' -an mm.flv
[15:32] <Mosselmaniac> somebody could help me?
[17:04] <kriegerod> how should i track by git log what is the set of revisions where libavcodec had version MAJOR/MINOR/MICRO 54/10/100? I have such libavcodec/version.h in vlc prebuilt contribs for apple-darwin10. I do git log libavcodec/version.h; bae053f and 0afd8f1 seem close, but not exact. Any help?
[17:21] <flipside> Is there a 100% lossless way to capture video. I need HD 1080p (my screen) and near perfect color space. This does not look ultra sharp ffmpeg -v 1 -r 30 -f x11grab -s 1920x1080 -i :0.0 -vcodec libx264 -preset ultrafast -crf 0 -threads 0 cast.mkv
[17:22] <flipside> Don't care how big the video is. After I edit everything Ill compress it.
[17:31] <flipside> Compiled using the newest ffmpeg version N-35349-ga4a88fd today.
[17:32] <mraca> hi, freshly checked out ffmpeg from git failing to compile due to an error in libavdevice/dv1394.c; Can anyone verify that it's in fact compiling and that it's just me?
[17:33] <mraca> arch: x64, os: ubuntu
[17:35] <flipside> mraca I just compiled mine 2 min ago on Debian wheezy. Did not have any problems.
[17:37] <mraca> @flipcode tnx
[17:37] <mraca> pardon, flipside... :)
[17:40] <flipside> mraca you asked if others had a problem with and error compiling. I just compiled N-35349-ga4a88fd on a x64 Debian Squeeze box. Had no problems.
[17:40] <flipside> sorry Debian wheezy
[17:49] <mraca> does anybody have an idea why the compilation would break at CC libavdevice/dv1394.o ? full output here: http://pastebin.com/JcGwwsvR
[17:57] <flipside> Can I get a RGB (4:4:4) colorspace for x11grab. Doing this now and it is not sharp enough ffmpeg -v 1 -r 30 -f x11grab -s 1920x1080 -i :0.0 -vcodec libx264 -preset ultrafast -crf 0 -threads 0 cast.mkv
[17:58] <flipside> mraca I am not getting that error. Is it something new for you?
[18:00] <mraca> yes
[18:01] <flipside> Not like it prolly matters but what kind of machine are you using?
[18:02] <mraca> 2.6.32-34-server #77-Ubuntu SMP x86_64 GNU/Linux
[18:02] <mraca> i'm guessing that there something wrong with my build env
[18:02] <mraca> there are no dependencies to go wrong with, right? It's just yasm-1.2.0
[18:11] <flipside> mraca the little script I wrote I have the following sudo apt-get -y install yasm texi2html libfaac-dev libjack-jackd2-dev libmp3lame-dev libopencore-amrnb-dev libopencore-amrwb-dev libsdl1.2-dev libtheora-dev libva-dev libvdpau-dev libvorbis-dev libx11-dev libxfixes-dev zlib1g-dev
[18:12] <flipside> mraca when I was using Ubuntu I wrote this http://pastebin.com/NHXrsBxm
[18:12] <mraca> tnx, I'll try with that
[18:14] <Mosselmaniac> Could somebody help me???
[18:14] <flipside> mraca just don't forget to change this homepath=/home/erik/git-svn to you. $HOME/sandbox might be nicer
[18:15] <mraca> no prob, saw it :)
[18:19] <flipside> Anybody know how to get a true losses x11grab. Can't seem to get a 444 color space.
[18:20] <flipside> Looks like a YV12 (4:2:0) ??
[18:21] <Mavrik> flipside: your commandline?
[18:22] <Mosselmaniac> flipside: would you please help me out for a second?
[18:22] <Mosselmaniac> i installed ffmpeg on a webserver, tried to call some functions via php. but didn't work out
[18:22] <flipside> Mavrik -f x11grab -s 1920x1080 -i :0.0 -vcodec libx264 -preset ultrafast -crf 0 -threads 0 cast.mkv
[18:22] <Mosselmaniac> so i installed it first on my windows machine using http://ffmpeg.zeranoe.com/builds/
[18:23] <Mavrik> flipside: your video is being converted to YUV4:2:0 because you're encoding into h.264
[18:23] <Mosselmaniac> now i would _love_ to generate my mp4 file with a png on top of it, for test purposes. but no clue now, tried 1000 things now ;-)
[18:24] <Mavrik> flipside: as far as I know there's currently no way to encode 4:4:4 with ffmpeg, not to mention that kind of video probably won't be playable on most players
[18:24] <flipside> Mavrik hmm can I use HuffYUV or FFV1 with ffmpeg?
[18:25] <Mavrik> flipside: yeah, huffyuv works losslessly (tested)
[18:25] <Mavrik> didn't try ffv1
[18:25] <loo> Can anyone take a look @ this http://ffmpeg.org/trac/ffmpeg/ticket/1224 ? I need to fix this ASAP, this is killing me
[18:25] <Mavrik> flipside: also recording huffyuv in RGB mode will make sure you don't lose anything
[18:25] <Mosselmaniac> Anybody else who mcould help me? i'm in here since 13:00 ;-)
[18:25] <flipside> Mavrik did not know there was support for that. Cool.
[18:26] <flipside> Mavrik could you give me an example of a cmd.
[18:26] <Mavrik> um
[18:26] <Mavrik> -codec:v huffyuv will probably work ;)
[18:27] <flipside> lol kind of guessed it would be something like that.
[18:27] <flipside> thx
[18:29] <flipside> Mosselmaniac Could you elaborate a little on what you are doing?
[18:30] <flipside> Mosselmaniac Scratch that. Saw the above and have to admit I don't know a thing about Windows.
[18:31] <Mosselmaniac> hehe ;-) but from a linux point of view?
[18:31] <sgfgdf> hello, guys! i have an mkv file which contains: video (V_MPEG4/ISO/AVC); audio (A_DTS); subtitles (S_TEXT/UTF8); is it possible to play that on a DVD player that is branded with DivX logo, or somehow i should convert it?
[18:31] <Mosselmaniac> ffmpeg -i nieuw.mp4 -vf "movie=test.png [watermark]; [in][watermark] overlay=10:10 [out]" outputvideo.flv
[18:31] <loo> Mavrik, could you help me, please?
[18:31] <Mosselmaniac> flipside: that doesn't work now
[18:32] <Mosselmaniac> flipside: which command should you pass to ffmpeg to get a png on top of a video?
[18:33] <sacarasc> sgfgdf: Generally DVD players that support MPEG4 only support it ASP in AVI. And the subs will almost definitely not work. So, yes, you will have to convert.
[18:34] <Mavrik> loo: without problem description, pastebin of command line, probably not.
[18:34] <loo> Well, I have written the problems there and pasted, the output, please wait, I'll try to do that all over again :)
[18:35] <Mosselmaniac> Guys i want a watermark on my video? could somebody help me
[18:35] <sgfgdf> sacarasc, okay so i need an AVI container because of the player? is thsis V_MPEG4/ISO/AVC a H.264 encoded video?
[18:35] <sacarasc> Yes.
[18:36] <sacarasc> To both.
[18:36] <dericed> Mosselmaniac: first see http://ffmpeg.org/libavfilter.html#overlay-1
[18:36] <Mavrik> loo: well, my log is limited ;)
[18:36] <loo> So I have a dvbt stream which is being converted with ffmpeg and sent to red5 server using rtmp. The ffmpeg exits when 5.x seconds are converted. If I add analyzeduration flag, then I can extend it to 14.x seconds. If I cat the dvb stream and use the cated file as an input, then the whole file is being converted.
[18:36] <Mosselmaniac> dericed: i read that 100 times now ;-)
[18:37] <Mosselmaniac> dericed: but i got something
[18:37] <Mosselmaniac> ffmpeg -i nieuw.mp4 -acodec copy -vf "movie=test.png [wm];[in][wm] overlay=5:5 [out]" -f mp4 -b 2500k -vcodec libx264 -vpre fast -ac 1 -y output.mp4
[18:37] <Mosselmaniac> COOL!!
[18:37] <sgfgdf> sacarasc, i have used the mkvtoolnix tools to extract the subtitles. if i do the same with the audio and the video how can i combine them into playable avi for my player? i don't know if the player can play this audio A_DTS.
[18:38] <sacarasc> sgfgdf: It's not just combining them, you'd have to convert the video and render the subtitles onto it directly (hard subbing).
[18:38] <loo> Mavrik, ^; + will add the console output
[18:38] <dericed> Mosselmaniac: 1 more time ;)
[18:39] <Mavrik> loo: hmm
[18:39] <dericed> Mosselmaniac: so did your last ffmpeg run work?
[18:39] <Mavrik> loo: that seems like a demuxer problem, try checking the input for buffer size
[18:39] <Mosselmaniac> dericed: that 1 worked :)
[18:39] <Mavrik> loo: you may be getting buffer underruns
[18:39] <Mosselmaniac> on my windows installation....
[18:40] <Mosselmaniac> however, i would have liked that it worked on my shared hosting environment, but ffmpeg returns me the error that -vf is not recognized??
[18:40] <Mavrik> loo: even though most people use other tools to grab DVB input and then convert that with ffmpeg
[18:41] <sgfgdf> sacarasc, i think that i had played a video with separate subtitles (file .srt) on that player. not sure though. so when i extract the components i have to convert the H.264 video to DivX. is this right? what about the audio then?
[18:41] <loo> Mavrik, what kind of tools? :) First time doing this so haven't found anything else.. :)
[18:41] <sacarasc> sgfgdf: You could use ffmpeg to do it all in 1 step... The audio should work fine, if it is allowed in AVI.
[18:42] <Mavrik> loo: lemme see if I can remember (never did that myself, don't have a DVB tuner at hand :\ )
[18:43] <loo> Mavrik, here's the output http://pastebin.com/aAzS9Uwz
[18:43] <sgfgdf> sacarasc, i'm asking about the audio, because i haven't heard of that auio type. i have heard about mp3 aac ac3, but not for A_DTS.
[18:43] <Mosselmaniac> Mavrik
[18:43] <sacarasc> DTS is often used on DVDs and Blurays.
[18:43] <Mosselmaniac> dericed:
[18:44] <Mosselmaniac> i have my movie that is 500px width and 576 height
[18:44] <Mosselmaniac> now i want to add 800px to the left of the movie, and place an image on that empty space
[18:44] <Mosselmaniac> how should we do that? i figured out step 2 now...
[18:45] <Mavrik> loo: it seems people use dvbstreamer forthat mostly
[18:45] <Mavrik> loo: but that definetly looks like a buffer underrun problem, can't seem to find a way to increase buffer size though
[18:45] <loo> wasn't it deprecated?
[18:45] <sgfgdf> sacarasc, if we pretend i have extracted the audio.dts and video.raw and subtitles.srt how can i combine them into one avi lets say a 30 seconds sample and if everything is okay i will run it for the whole video?
[18:46] <Mavrik> loo: probably, as I said, I have little experience with grabbing from DVB tuners
[18:46] <loo> Mavrik, the buffer size isn't a changeable flag? this is really sad. The wierd fact is that the analyzeduration extends the time.
[18:47] <Mavrik> loo: it's not for "file" input
[18:47] <Mavrik> loo: and it's logical - increasing analyze duration forces ffmpeg to preload larger part of file
[18:48] <sacarasc> sgfgdf: I've never burnt subtitles onto the video with ffmpeg, so I am unsure.
[18:48] <loo> Mavrik, so you are sure that there's no option how to fix this? :(
[18:49] <Mavrik> loo: I'm not sure, there might be something buried in documentation... also ffmpeg-users list could help you as well :)
[18:49] <Mosselmaniac> could somebody help me??
[18:49] <sgfgdf> sacarasc, any suggestions if we skip the step with embeding the subtitles? if i want to play the video with audio?
[18:49] <loo> Mavrik, maybe create a fifo file? :D
[18:49] <Mosselmaniac> my movie is 500px in width, i want to add lets say 800px to that, on the left side. which parameter should i use?
[18:50] <Mosselmaniac> mavrik? loo?
[18:50] <Mavrik> Mosselmaniac: read the damn documentation -_-
[18:50] <sgfgdf> sacarasc, btw when i extracy the video is it raw video with no container? in my case just H.264 video stream?
[18:50] <Mavrik> loo: that, or try grabbing with a DVB grabber (or just use cat) and pipe input into ffmpeg
[18:50] <Mavrik> that might help :)
[18:51] <loo> Mavrik, you mean cat the data into a fifo file and then pipe the input into ffmpeg?
[18:51] <Mavrik> mhm
[18:52] <sacarasc> sgfgdf: Don't bother demuxing, that's more hassle than is needed. Something like this might work: ffmpeg -i foo.mkv -ss 300 -t 30 -codec:a libmp3lame -codec:v mpeg4 -b:a 192k -b:v 800k output.avi
[18:52] <Mosselmaniac> Mavrik: i read it
[18:52] <loo> Mavrik, is there something special that I have to do to pipe it in?
[18:52] <sacarasc> Though I don't really know much about encoding to ASP, as it is poo and out of date.
[18:52] <Mosselmaniac> is this the one? http://ffmpeg.org/ffmpeg.html#format
[18:53] <loo> Mavrik or just use -i fifoFile.mpeg
[18:56] <mraca> epilog: the compilation problem was due to my env settings; not sure whether C_INCLUDE_PATH or CPP_...;
[18:56] <mraca> thx @flipside for his help one again
[18:57] <sgfgdf> sacarasc, the video codec you mention is mpeg4 is it another name for DivX or they are mutually exclusive? about the audio does this mp3 codec support more than 2 channels?
[18:58] <sacarasc> DivX is an implementation of MPEG4 ASP. And I am not sure MP3 supports more than 2 channels.
[18:58] <sgfgdf> sacarasc, if i leave the audo to be dts do you think i wont play?
[18:58] <sacarasc> I am not sure.
[18:59] <sacarasc> I am not sure if DTS is supported in AVI.
[18:59] <sgfgdf> sacarasc, ah, right, okay.
[18:59] <flipside> mraca did you get it working?
[19:00] <sgfgdf> sacarasc, why do you tell me to use ffmpeg at once instead of extracting the video audio and so on? is it faster. what is the right way to do it in order to loose as less as of the quality?
[19:02] <sacarasc> sgfgdf: You might get some desynchronisation if you do it the longer, more painful way.
[19:03] <sgfgdf> sacarasc, but will i loose less quality if i use the longer way?
[19:03] <sacarasc> No.
[19:08] <loo> Mavrik, created a fifo file, cated the stream to it and then used it with ffmpeg, but nothing..
[19:11] <sgfgdf> sacarasc, i changed the libmp3lame to libfaac, because it says that the video is more than 2 channels and mp3 needs <= 2. but the result of the video quality is noticable worse. do you think just the mpeg4 codec is bad. here is information about the original mkv file -- http://cl.ly/1g0O162Z3T1f2H1F0z1k .
[19:12] <sacarasc> Yes, MPEG4 ASP is bad.
[19:12] <sgfgdf> sacarasc, those DVD players are really useless nowadays.
[19:16] <cbsrobot> SDC
[19:16] <cbsrobot> $
[19:25] <flipside> Seems like huffyuf is using YUV4:2:0 pixel format by default ?
[19:25] <sgfgdf> sacarasc, if i try to just change the container from mkv to mp4 will ffmpeg drop the subtitles and any other information besides the audio and video?
[19:25] <sacarasc> I don't know what types of subtitle MP4 supports.
[19:27] <sgfgdf> sacarasc, i mean in my mkv there are embeded subs. and i want to remove them while changing the container. if i do -acodec copy and -vcodec copy it is not converting anything right?
[19:27] <flipside> Is this right for completly lossless -vcodec huffyuv -pix_fmt bgra
[19:28] <sacarasc> sgfgdf: To remove them, use the -map command.
[19:28] <flipside> sgfgdf that -codec:v copy -codec:a copy will not re-compress your sound or video. You can just put whats in there in an other "container"
[19:31] <flipside> sgfgdf to get rid of all the other streams just use -sn -codec:v copy -codec:a -sn out.mkv
[19:31] <flipside> forgot the copy after -codec:a
[19:33] <sgfgdf> sacarasc, flipside, thank you very much for your help guys!
[19:33] <flipside> np
[19:33] <Kingsy> guys, I have a command I am using to capture video --> ffmpeg -f video4linux2 -r 30 -i /dev/video0 -b 5000k out.avi <-- but according to the output on the command line when its capturing rather than 30fps I am getting 7.. and tbh it looks like that too.. the output is pretty jumpy and a little noisey too.. what can I do to tweak this?
[19:35] <Kingsy> for example when I exited the program this was its status --> frame= 44 fps= 5 q=4.6 Lsize= 6966kB time=11.60 bitrate=4919.4kbits/s
[19:35] <Kingsy> so it captured 44 frames and was doing it at 5 fps.. thats a far cry away from 30.. what is going wrong..
[19:36] <loo> mavrik, isn't there a possibility to buffer the stream with ffmpeg? Or make ffmpeg wait till it receives the next frame? dvbstreamer isn't available currently..
[19:42] <Kingsy> even lowering the resolution to like 320x240 doesnt help the fps.. it still hovers around 8-9fps..
[19:46] <loo> Any ideas where / how to buffer data from dvb card before sending it to ffmpeg? Ffmpeg crashes if I use the dvb card dirrectly
[19:53] <Kingsy> argh.. this is frustrating
[19:53] <loo> anyone?
[19:53] <Kingsy> perhaps the camera just doesnt handle it
[19:54] <Kingsy> actually.. impossible.. because if you don't "record" and you use mplayer tv:// its like 30 fps.. SUPER sharp
[20:14] <Kingsy> burek: you kickin around?
[20:21] <burek> Kingsy, try using some less cpu intensive encoder
[20:21] <burek> for example -vcodec libx264 -preset ultrafast
[20:22] <Kingsy> burek: should that matter? i have a i7
[20:23] <loo> Any ideas where / how to buffer data from dvb card before sending it to ffmpeg? Ffmpeg crashes if I use the dvb card dirrectly
[20:23] <Kingsy> burek: ffmpeg is using 2% of my cpu when capturing
[20:25] <Kingsy> burek: also I have libx264-116 installed but ffmpeg says Unknown decoder 'libx264'
[20:27] <loo> :?
[20:29] <burek> Kingsy, try with latest git version
[20:29] <burek> also use -threads 0
[20:30] <Kingsy> oh ok.. I think I still have that somewhere
[20:31] <Kingsy> burek: http://pastie.org/3818253
[20:31] <Kingsy> still got the same thing
[20:32] <Kingsy> burek: the only difference between my version and the latest is the "unknown decoder part" is red underlined.. heh
[20:35] <Kingsy> burek: well actually the output is a little different --> http://pastie.org/3818275 <-- if it matters..
[20:35] <Kingsy> not really sure what to do here
[20:41] <loo> Burek, can you help me please?
[20:47] <RobertNagy> where do I find windows debug binaries?
[20:53] <Kingsy> burek: according to ffmpeg it doesnt even support decoding using libx264 --> EV libx264 libx264 H.264 / AVC / MPEG-4 AVC / MPEG-4 part 10
[20:54] <Mavrik> libx264 is not a decoder.
[20:57] <Kingsy> Mavrik: it was some advice from burek
[20:57] <Kingsy> Mavrik: see, I am trying to capture some webcam footage at 30fps (or the max it can handle) and it keeps hovering around 7 fps.. when I use ffmpeg -f video4linux2 -r 30 -i /dev/video0 -b 5000k out.avi any advice on how to speed that up >
[20:58] <Kingsy> Mavrik: burek said to use libx264
[20:58] <JEEB> (hint: setting codec before -i sets the decoder, after -i sets the encoder)
[20:58] <Mavrik> indeed
[20:58] <Mavrik> Kingsy, did you try dumping unencoded video first?
[20:58] <Mavrik> so you see if it's a CPU issue or hardware/demuxer issue?
[20:58] <Kingsy> Mavrik: no I don't know how to do that.. I am very new to all of this
[21:00] <Kingsy> Mavrik: I am assuming if I dump the unencoded video and its still low framerate then its nothing to do with the encoder.. its a hardware thing right?
[21:03] <Mavrik> Kingsy, it's either camera or ffmpeg
[21:03] <Mavrik> Kingsy, try "-codec copy"
[21:04] <Mavrik> something like ffmpeg -f video4linux2 -r 30 -i /dev/video0 -codec copy output.avi
[21:04] <Mavrik> (or output.mp4 if your camera gives out encoded stream)
[21:06] <Kingsy> output was --> frame= 86 fps= 8 q=-1.0 Lsize= 51622kB time=00:00:11.68 bitrate=36195.8kbits/s
[21:06] <Kingsy> so 8 fps
[21:07] <Kingsy> Mavrik: ^^
[21:08] <Kingsy> surely this cant be the camera.. if you use mplayer tv:// the output is like 30 or 25fps and its super sharp
[21:10] <Kingsy> Mavrik: what do you think?
[21:16] <basilgohar> I have three AVCHD MTS files (00000.MTS, 00001.MTS, 00002.MTS) that are all in one sequence. I can concatenate them together into one, and I can also feed this concatentated file into ffmpeg via stdin, remux it using vcodec/acodec copy, and output another MPEG-TS file and I get the same data when I decode.
[21:17] <Kingsy> I would just love to get a definitive answer one either, its ffmpeg or its the hardware... I don't know if I should buy a new webcam.. if I do and have the same problem I will be really annoyed..
[21:17] <basilgohar> But when I do the same thing, except output to Matroska, I get a different output, including different duplicated frames and different dropped frame counts.
[21:18] <basilgohar> Why is there a difference in decodded video when muxing the video into MPEG-TS and Matroska?
[21:21] <ckb> anyone here use widevine?
[21:45] <dizzylizzy> okay so
[21:45] <dizzylizzy> i used recordmydesktop for something and i have an ogv, and then i need to convert it to another format, something like avi
[21:45] <dizzylizzy> but my question is more about audio manipulation
[21:46] <dizzylizzy> if i wanted to adjust the audio or do something like effects on it is it safe to extract the audio from the original, do the changes, and then just splice it back in with ffmpeg?
[21:46] <dizzylizzy> or are there risks involved with that things like maybe matching the exact duration
[21:48] <gustavo_cm> dizzylizzy: I would use SoX for that
[21:49] <gustavo_cm> dizzylizzy: http://sox.sourceforge.net/
[21:50] <dizzylizzy> I think i've used sox before for ripping audiobooks
[21:50] <dizzylizzy> make each file one chapter things like that
[21:50] <dizzylizzy> mmk!
[21:50] <dizzylizzy> and not worry about things matching up perfectly? or should that be okay as long as I'm not stretching or cutting anything
[21:52] <gustavo_cm> dizzylizzy: I never had problems with SoX regarding to conserving the original length of the audio.
[21:54] <dizzylizzy> okay!! good to know :)
[21:59] <gustavo_cm> :]
[22:51] <ckb> marco?
[23:28] <xandy> hi, i've a video with a damaged audio trac. if i extract the audio with "ffmpeg -i video.flv audio.flac" ffmpeg prints warnings while extracting and other software crashes while processing the extracted aduio
[23:34] <loo> Can I convert video directly from an usb dvbt stick with ffmpeg, or should I use something between them? Currently ffmpeg exits the proccess after 5seconds, probably because of buffer issue..
[23:35] <xandy> loo shouldn't be a problem if your video bitrate is lower than the stick read rate
[23:36] <loo> xandy, how to check if it's true?
[23:37] <loo> xandy, if I use the /dev/dvb/adapter0/dvr0 as the input, then ffmpeg exits after 5sec, if I add analyzeduration, it's possible to extend that time to 14 seconds. If I cat the dvb stream and use the sample file, ffmpeg converts everything till the end..
[23:38] <xandy> strange
[23:38] <xandy> cant help you with that sorry
[23:39] <burek> basilgohar, inside your mpegts container, what streams are there?
[23:39] <burek> can you do ffmpeg -i 00000.MTS
[23:39] <burek> and use pastebin to show output
[23:39] <burek> loo, yes? :)
[23:39] <burek> RobertNagy, try google for: zeranoe ffmpeg
[23:40] <RobertNagy> doesn't provide debug builds
[23:40] <burek> you can send him an email
[23:40] <burek> and ask him politely to make one
[23:41] <RobertNagy> hm, I guess I could
[23:41] <loo> burek, what? :) I probably wanted your help a while ago :)
[23:41] <burek> loo, what ffmpeg line do you use ?
[23:41] <burek> xandy, try -acodec copy -vn out.wav
[23:42] <burek> oh that won't work, sorry
[23:42] <burek> xandy, can you just do ffmpeg -i video.flv and copy it to the pastebin
[23:43] <xandy> burek http://pastebin.com/m8ASptGT
[23:44] <burek> Audio: nellymoser?
[23:44] <burek> and your ffmpeg is so old
[23:44] <burek> like 3 yaers old
[23:45] <xandy> yea its a ustream recording
[23:46] <burek> what is the appropriate container for that kind of audio
[23:46] <xandy> yes i've ffmpeg on a debian stable
[23:46] <burek> update it
[23:46] <burek> it's really old
[23:47] <xandy> ok
[23:47] <loo> burek, just a sec, I'll drop the log
[23:47] <burek> xandy, is this it? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asao_(codec)
[23:48] <loo> burek http://pastebin.com/aAzS9Uwz
[23:49] <burek> anyway, xandy, try this: ffmpeg -i video.flv -acodec copy -vn audio.flv
[23:49] <burek> and try to play that in some audio player (vlc?)
[23:49] <burek> also: Stream #0.1: Audio: nellymoser, 2 Hz, mono, s16
[23:49] <burek> 2 Hz ? :)))
[23:49] <burek> loo, did you try with video4linux2?
[23:50] <loo> burek, no, what's that?
[23:50] <burek> ffmpeg -f video4linux2 -i /dev/dvb/adapter0/dvr0 out.avi
[23:50] <burek> try that
[23:51] <loo> I'll try to emerge the v4l first of all :)
[23:51] <burek> also, did you try ffprobe /dev/dvb/adapter0/dvr0
[23:51] <burek> just to see what is it actually that you are getting at your input
[23:52] <loo> burek, is v4l included in ffmpeg, or I have to download it? without setting anything up I tryed http://pastebin.com/dSefH9qb
[23:53] <taypen> hey, how can i convert mkv to mpeg4, i want to watch some movie on the iPad
[23:53] <burek> loo, abandon v4l, try ffprobe
[23:54] <burek> taypen, ffmpeg -i input.mkv -acodec copy -vcodec copy -scodec copy out.mp4
[23:54] <loo> burek, ffprobe http://pastebin.com/uPfvMvpD
[23:55] <burek> that's not ffprobe
[23:55] <burek> og
[23:55] <burek> sorry :)
[23:55] <loo> burek, sorry, somehow didn't seewhere to copy from :)
[23:56] <taypen> burek, thanks, it works also with other types?
[23:56] <burek> well, try ffmpeg -f mpegts -i /dev/dvb/adapter0/dvr0 out.ts
[23:57] <burek> taypen, well, it depends
[23:57] <burek> it was just a remux
[23:57] <burek> (change of muxer/container, not touching video/audio inside)
[23:58] <burek> but if your ipad doesn't support video/audio streams, then you'll have to see what it does support and re-encode streams
[23:58] <loo> burek, http://pastebin.com/pcZ7xw7k
[23:58] <burek> support those*
[23:59] <burek> [h264 @ 0xa04fa60] concealing 1620 DC, 1620 AC, 1620 MV errors

[01:50] <taqattack> Hey everyone.
[01:51] <taqattack> When I tried to run FFmpeg convert directshow input to stream for RTMP, I get huge memory usage (close to 1.8GB). Any idea why that could be?
[01:59] <Compn> taqattack : give us an example command line so we may reproduce
[02:00] Action: Daemon404 has a feeling it is some rouge dshow filter
[02:03] <taqattack> http://pastebin.com/SgpttCAZ
[02:05] <taqattack> Yeah I'm suspecting it to be a directshow problem as well. I ran it with native rtmp and librtmp. It happens when I'm recording to harddrive as well but not as often.
[02:08] <Compn> surprised you got it working from my email instructions :)
[02:09] <Compn> taqattack : try a smaller res and see if it gets the same mem leak as fast ?
[02:10] <Compn> or maybe try with 1 thread
[02:10] <Compn> not sure if dshow can handle 4 threads
[02:10] <ohsix> it's com, things can be apartment threaded
[02:10] <Compn> i mean ffmpeg's dshow implementation
[02:11] <ohsix> right
[02:11] <Compn> you mr smart guy
[02:11] <Compn> in other words
[02:11] <Compn> try to make command line smaller, by throwing out options, see if you find the reason
[02:12] <ohsix> if ffmpeg is making assumptions about things being free threaded or whatever when they call into com, DOOM
[02:13] <ohsix> com will insert adapters when there's a mismatch but you still need to comply with one of the types
[02:14] Action: Compn inserts a COM into ohsix
[02:16] <ohsix> but if it doesn't crash it shouldn't make the elements go crazy either; can ffmpeg's dshow thing register the graph it builds for debugging?
[02:16] <ohsix> you can open registred graphs with graphedit
[02:16] <Compn> tell him to install valgrind on windows while you're at it
[02:18] <ohsix> http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/ms695276%28v=vs.85%…
[02:19] <ohsix> eh, start with opening it from the ROT w/graphedit
[02:19] <ohsix> you will see any weird filter elements that shouldn't be there, if they're all signed or microsoft provided you can probably ignore them
[02:19] <taqattack> Just ran it with smaller resolution: http://pastebin.com/f6nV2aT3
[02:19] <taqattack> The memory problem is still there
[02:20] <taqattack> Should I take out the -threads command?
[02:20] <Compn> yes
[02:20] <Compn> try just recording it to local harddrive
[02:20] <Compn> i want to narrow down the problem exactly.
[02:21] <ohsix> http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/dd390650%28v=vs.85%…
[02:21] <ohsix> it's probably ffdshow, does it drop late frames or anything from the directshow source?
[02:22] <ohsix> -ffdshow
[02:22] <ohsix> +ffmpeg
[02:25] <taqattack> Yeah it drops frames when I take out "-rtbufsize 100000000"
[02:25] <taqattack> It's not giving me the error when I try to output to harddrive now. But it happens occasionally.
[02:26] <ohsix> anyways, it's easy to rule out dshow when you look at it with graphedit
[02:52] <burek> is there anyone willing to help create a wiki page at ffmpeg's trac wiki about compiling ffmpeg statically?
[02:52] <ohsix> if they're going to deal with the license hassle they should figure it out themselves, no? or if they're going to ignore the licenses ... ;]
[02:53] <ohsix> you could always reverse engineer the build process of someone already doing that, too
[02:53] <burek> well, I'd like to round it up, in the complete guide, for those that want it
[02:54] <burek> now, if they are going to abuse it, well.. it's the same case as with guns factories :)
[02:54] <ohsix> yea, not really
[02:54] <burek> but I deeply believe that more people will start using ffmpeg if there is an option to just download-and-run it
[02:55] <ohsix> for your own personal use it's not even really very useful to build statically
[02:55] <burek> how come
[02:56] <burek> well, here is the (use) case for static build
[02:56] <burek> people often use apt-get install ffmpeg
[02:56] <burek> they don't want to bother (or play around) with compiling things
[02:56] <burek> they find it to be "nice and clean" philosophy.. install/uninstall
[02:57] <burek> and that's fine
[02:57] <burek> but when they hit the bug, they are always asked to use the latest git
[02:57] <burek> and there comes the trouble.. a lot of them will mostly avoid doing it
[02:57] <burek> simply searching for another tool that will do their job
[02:57] <burek> and who loses in such scenario? well guess :)
[02:57] <ohsix> what if their philosopy involves them not believing in computers, how will you support them using ffmpeg
[02:58] <burek> come on, this is very common scenario
[02:58] <burek> experienced mostly in #ffmpeg
[02:58] <ohsix> you should see from all the bundled license violations that the people who want that use case do just fine
[02:59] <burek> what does license violation has got to do with this case at all?
[02:59] <burek> we can make gpl static build
[02:59] <burek> and offer it for people to download
[03:00] <silverrocker> what does idc stand for?
[03:05] <burek> Image Density Control?
[03:08] <burek> silverrocker, the closest match i've found is IDC level here: http://www.avidemux.org/admWiki/doku.php?id=tutorial:h.264
[03:08] <Compn> burek : you mean the static builds at zeranoe's site for win32 users ?
[03:08] <Compn> what are you guys talking about :)
[03:08] <burek> Compn, I was more interested in linux 32/64 builds
[03:09] <burek> because no need to reinvent the wheel right? :)
[03:09] <Compn> you'll never get it into apt-get , the distros dont like static
[03:09] <burek> that's not the goal
[03:09] <Compn> ah
[03:10] <Compn> so i'm guessing theres something wrong with just compiling --enable-static or whatever
[03:10] <burek> I'll put the download link somewhere for people to download it, unofficially, just so that they can have the latest git version
[03:10] <Compn> ah
[03:10] <burek> because we loose a lot of bug reports due to people not wanting/knowing to compile things
[03:11] <Compn> right
[03:11] <Compn> so what problem do you get when you pass the cflag=-static ?
[03:11] <burek> well, I'd like to do it right
[03:12] <burek> that's all
[03:12] <burek> I tried it myself, got the working builds
[03:12] <burek> created cron job to build new binary each day (with git pull)
[03:12] <burek> just to find out that on some machines ffmpeg says even -h option not recognized :S
[03:12] <burek> so fail :)
[03:12] <Compn> lol
[03:13] <silverrocker> burek: in the code you have variables ending with _idc all the time. I was wondering what it was
[03:13] <Compn> since there is no runtime cpu detection in ffmpeg , are you compiling with --disable-optimizations ?
[03:13] <burek> let me tell you exactly :)
[03:13] <burek> http://ffmpeg.gusari.org/static/
[03:13] <burek> scroll just a little bit down
[03:13] <Compn> no i'd rather guess for another hour
[03:13] <Compn> :P
[03:13] <burek> and see the configure options
[03:13] <burek> :)
[03:14] <Compn> did you strace to see why -h was failing ? (or what it reads)
[03:14] <burek> so, that's the magic tool :$
[03:14] Action: burek is writting down: strace
[03:15] <Compn> strace is evil evil tool
[03:15] <Compn> ;)
[03:16] <burek> so, cflags=-static should make it totally static?
[03:16] <Compn> no
[03:16] <Compn> what you have
[03:16] <Compn> --enable-static
[03:16] <Compn> should do it
[03:17] <Compn> your binaries are very tiny tho
[03:17] <burek> gzipped? :)
[03:18] <Compn> i guess
[03:18] <Compn> thought it would be bigger :P
[03:18] <burek> 20 MB unzipped
[03:19] <burek> anyway, strace cmd ... right?
[03:19] <Compn> yes
[03:21] <burek> http://pastebin.com/uFRKycPp
[03:21] <burek> famous Unrecognized option 'h' ^^
[03:28] Action: Compn can understand none of strace
[03:28] <Compn> does --help do anything? :P
[03:28] <Daemon404> i dont see how strace would be useful :V
[03:28] <burek> Unrecognized option '-help' :D
[03:32] <Compn> does ffmpeg -i work ?
[03:32] <Compn> i mean, can it encode files ?
[03:32] <burek> hardly :)
[03:32] <Compn> strange strace didnt say what it tried to access
[03:32] <burek> i mean, if -h doesn't work.. :D
[03:32] <Compn> does it say unrecognized option ?
[03:32] <Compn> lol
[03:32] <burek> yes it does for -i also :)
[03:33] <Compn> dumb quesiton but i had to :P
[03:33] <Compn> well i'm out of ideas then
[03:33] <burek> but --help produced an error like unrecognized option '-help'
[03:33] <burek> like it doesn't understand --bla options
[03:33] <burek> or long options or what's the name
[03:34] <burek> i guess it failed to initialize the time functions or so: ioctl(0, SNDCTL_TMR_TIMEBASE or TCGETS...
[03:35] <burek> I remember having some errors regarding those timer functions
[03:35] <burek> back to the lab.. :)
[03:35] <burek> that's why I ask if anyone is interested in helping write a wiki about static build :)))
[03:42] <Compn> :)
[03:48] <taqattack> I was able to cross-compile from ubuntu to windows using libx264 and libmp3lame. That took me 2 days to figure out. On top of that I spent 2 days trying to add librtmp which just wouldnt compile.
[06:41] <taqattack> What causes "[dshow @ 0156f620] real-time buffer 232% full! frame dropped!"?
[06:47] <ohsix> realtime buffer 232% full
[09:02] <TimNich> burek: I compile statically for linux and win so have built a shed load of scripts, so happy to share on a wiki
[09:16] <av500> Hmm, burek...
[09:46] <burek> TimNich, great :) do you have any links already where I can take a look? :)
[09:55] <TimNich> not at the moment. its all stuff on my devel system
[09:59] <burek> ok

[11:23] <ubitux> cbreak-work: what do you mean by didn't really work?
[11:23] <ubitux> (about the git bisect)
[11:24] <ubitux> also, you can try a faster git bisect specifying some path
[11:24] <cbreak-work> The commits bisect wanted me to test had various problems
[11:24] <ubitux> if you have a slight idea what file could have broke the feature
[11:24] <cbreak-work> like av_log_format_line being missing
[11:24] <ubitux> cbreak-work: you can ignore broken states
[11:25] <ubitux> git bisect skip
[11:25] <cbreak-work> or _formatContext->iformat->long_name / _codecVideo->long_name having an invalid pointer value
[11:26] <cbreak-work> _formatContext is a AVFormatContext*
[11:26] <cbreak-work> the other is a AVCodec*
[11:26] <cbreak-work> I skipped them, but I only got such commits, so I am not sure if bisect made me test relevant commits at all
[11:27] <cbreak-work> also, building ffmpeg normally creates an ffprobe for me
[11:27] <cbreak-work> but during bisect, most of the time it created an avprobe
[11:28] <ubitux> looks like you're bisecting way back
[11:28] <cbreak-work> that's what I suspected
[11:28] <cbreak-work> since my good commit is on a different branch than the bad one
[11:29] <cbreak-work> (the good one is n0.10.2, on a release branch, the one I found bad was the tip of master)
[11:32] <ubitux> git bisect start HEAD n0.10.2 libavformat/mov.c, or sth like that?
[11:32] <ubitux> i'm not sure how that will work when branches diverge
[11:52] <cbreak-work> ubitux: well, I manually started at the merge base now
[11:53] <cbreak-work> the merge base seems to still work, and lets me open the mov
[12:16] <cbreak-work> ubitux: not sure if those commits really are old
[12:17] <cbreak-work> for example 0f96f0d9968a767ead3aec823fcdfb78f26f7be7 gives me avprobe instead of ffprobe
[12:17] <cbreak-work> and it's missing av_log_format_line
[12:18] <nevcairiel> bisecting is no fun anymore because of the merges from libav
[12:28] <michaelni> if you end with a avprobe instead of ffprobe on a bisect checkout you can just test avprobe ...
[12:29] <cbreak-work> no
[12:29] <cbreak-work> I test the libraries
[12:29] Action: michaelni reads a few lines of the back log
[12:30] <av500> [12:18:20] <nevcairiel> bisecting is no fun anymore because of the merges from libav
[12:31] <michaelni> just say "git bisect bad" if you get a checkout from libav
[12:31] <michaelni> should end up with the commit from ffmpeg or a merge commit then
[12:31] <michaelni> that introduced the issue
[12:33] <cbreak-work> the whole thing is a mess
[12:38] <ohsix> good thing git doesn't care :]
[12:42] <cbreak-work> well, the first problem starts with e37f161e66e042d6c2c7470c4d9881df9427fc4a
[12:42] <cbreak-work> before that I can open the file
[12:42] <cbreak-work> after that libswscale complains about bad src pointer
[12:42] <cbreak-work> so the decoding fails
[12:42] <cbreak-work> and after that, the problems just increase
[12:44] <michaelni> how can i reproduce the problem ?
[12:45] <michaelni> can it be reproduced with the command line tools ?
[12:45] <cbreak-work> no idea. Maybe with ffplay
[12:46] <cbreak-work> ffplay isn't built on OS X, probably due to dependencies
[12:47] <michaelni> welll lets assume it can be reproduced with ffplay, what would i need to feed into ffplay ?
[12:48] <cbreak-work> curl -A "Apple Mac OS X v10.6.2 CoreMedia v1.0.0.10C540" -O http://trailers.apple.com/movies/disney/brave/brave-tlr3_h1080p.mov gives you a trailer, that's the one I tested with
[12:49] <cbreak-work> at n0.10.2 I can decode it flawlessly
[12:50] <cbreak-work> at master's tip either avformat_open_input or avformat_find_stream_info fail, and the resulting context has nb_streams == 0
[12:50] <cbreak-work> so no streams
[12:50] <cbreak-work> and on the commit I linked just above, libswscale fails to handle the image returned by the decoder
[12:50] <cbreak-work> (I use swscale to do color space conversion to rgb)
[12:51] <cbreak-work> but for now I've given up on debugging, I'll just use latest release :)
[12:51] Action: cbreak-work goes to lunch
[12:53] <michaelni> eb9f73569cc078b00ae1c62c120e2995 /home/michael/videos/brave-tlr3_h1080p.mov <---- plays with ffplay
[13:12] <michaelni> cbreak-work, btw if you find out why it doesnt work for your application, iam very interrested so we can document the issue for others or possibly add some workaround/fix
[13:13] <michaelni> also you can compare your code to ffplays, probably not fun to do but should point in the direction of the problem
[13:25] <michaelni> " <iive> I thought the problem is with git. Aka it cannot merge things from the downstream into the upstream."
[13:25] <michaelni> git can merge anything
[13:25] <Compn> that was a joke, about how libav is the 'upstream'
[13:26] <Compn> as is constantly described itself as
[13:26] <michaelni> ahh ok
[13:27] <cbreak-work> michaelni: eb9f73569cc078b00ae1c62c120e2995 is not a valid commit in my ffmpeg repo
[13:27] <michaelni> cbreak-work, its supposed to be a md5 sum of a mov file :)
[13:27] <cbreak-work> hmm.
[13:28] <michaelni> i just wanted to make sure i have the right file
[13:28] <cbreak-work> same hash here.
[13:29] <cbreak-work> I don't do a lot in my code, first I avformat_open_input the file, then I avformat_find_stream_info
[13:29] <cbreak-work> and afterwards, if I look into the context, nb_streams is 0
[13:29] <cbreak-work> (at master's tip)
[13:30] <michaelni> any error messages ?
[13:30] <michaelni> and i assume of course the headers and libs you link to match
[13:31] <cbreak-work> at e37f161e66e042d6c2c7470c4d9881df9427fc4a I get streams, but when I try to decode frames sws_scale complains
[13:31] <cbreak-work> I did a fresh make install each time
[13:33] <michaelni> does it work with other files or do you always get 0 streams ?
[13:33] <cbreak-work> I only tried it with this stream.
[13:33] <cbreak-work> will try with avengers trailer next... :)
[13:34] <cbreak-work> first, ffmpeg recompile... for the 20th time today...
[13:35] <michaelni> also do you check the return code of avformat_open_input() ? i mean its not an error ...?
[13:36] <cbreak-work> it's not an error
[13:37] <cbreak-work> my call is error = avformat_open_input(&_formatContext, url.c_str(), 0, 0);
[13:37] <cbreak-work> error is 0 after the execution.
[13:38] <cbreak-work> the call after that is error = avformat_find_stream_info(_formatContext, 0);, again without error return
[13:39] <michaelni> you should get streams before avformat_find_stream_info() with mov
[13:40] <cbreak-work> well, the program is supposed to work with many input formats
[13:41] <cbreak-work> and the number of streams stays 0 in the context
[13:41] <michaelni> you do call avformat_alloc_context() ?
[13:42] <cbreak-work> no
[13:42] <michaelni> that sounds not so good
[13:42] <michaelni> how do you allocate the context ?
[13:46] <michaelni> if you just set the pointer to a pointer to NULL it shoudl work
[13:47] <michaelni> but if you *malloc() it its unlikely to work
[13:53] <cbreak-work> michaelni: it is NULL
[13:53] <cbreak-work> the avformat_open_input is supposed to allocate stuff for me
[13:55] <cbreak-work> I don't think the problem is in my code
[13:55] <michaelni> well, ffplay works ...
[13:55] <cbreak-work> since I really only use bare-bones ffmpeg, which worked back at n0.10.2 :)
[13:55] <michaelni> does ffmpeg (the command line tool) work for you ?
[13:56] <cbreak-work> what should I try to do?
[13:56] <michaelni> ./ffmpeg -i thatfile
[13:57] <michaelni> does it find streams ?
[13:57] <cbreak-work> converting to an avi seems to work.
[13:57] <cbreak-work> so the streams must be found
[14:11] <cbreak-work> michaelni: ffplay does more than my program
[14:12] <cbreak-work> I think it lets av_find_input_format run
[14:13] <cbreak-work> maybe...
[14:26] <RobertNagy> regarding, guess_correct_pts, shouldn't the pts_correction_qqq values be reset on avcodec_flush_codec?
[14:31] <michaelni> they should, arent they ?
[14:32] <RobertNagy> not as far as I can find

[15:38] <cptspiff> are you guys interested in a sample spewing 'More than one AAC RDB per ADTS frame is not implemented'? i'm not 100 it's not just a corrupt bitstream though.
[15:43] <michaelni> cptspiff, i think we have such samples already IIRC
[15:43] <michaelni> does the file fail to decode correctly ?
[15:43] <cptspiff> k
[15:43] <cptspiff> video decodes (with heavy stutter), no audio
[15:44] <cptspiff> it's an ancient (anime) .ogm though so i wouldn't exclude messed up muxing
[15:45] <michaelni> maybe upload, the file i have that prints that works
[15:46] <cptspiff> incoming works now?
[15:46] <michaelni> no idea, try it ..
[15:46] <cptspiff> right'o
[15:46] <nevcairiel> speaking about ogm, i also have a bunch of ogms produced by GOMStreamer that fail badly
[15:47] <nevcairiel> i think the files are broken though
[15:48] <michaelni> cant hurt to open ticket(s) for them on trac
[15:53] <cptspiff> ffs. good news and stupid news. good news is it works in master, apparently fixed between 0.10.1 and now. stupid news was me using the release and not master as i thought i was. /me stops making noise.
[16:40] <taqattack> Hello I'm having some issues with dropped frames
[16:40] <taqattack> http://pastebin.com/hhLw7gqE
[16:40] <Digidog> taqattack: from where to where?
[16:41] <taqattack> Trying to read from direcshow and output to flv
[16:42] <nevcairiel> all that means is your encoding is too slow for realtime encoding from a screen capture source
[16:42] <nevcairiel> turn down the settings :)
[16:44] <taqattack> Which settings?
[16:44] <teratorn> taqattack: are you using a 64-bit ffmpeg / 64-bit OS?
[16:45] <taqattack> 32-bit on 64-bit OS
[16:45] <taqattack> I have the issue with both versions though
[16:47] <teratorn> taqattack: well you *ought* to be able to get better encoding performance off a 64bit build
[16:49] <taqattack> Is there a way to multithread in FFmpeg?
[16:51] <taqattack> real-time buffer 121% full! frame dropped! in 64-bit build
[16:53] <teratorn> there is the -threads option
[16:54] <teratorn> multi-threaded encoding of a single video stream I don't *think* is very common, but I've heard about work going on in that department. I'm really not sure what the current situation is (?)
[16:58] <taqattack> oh ok
[17:01] <taqattack> So the decoding of directshow filter is single-threaded?
[17:02] <cptspiff> it's obviously decoding fast enough.. ;)
[17:03] <Digidog> does anyone knwo where to get latest mpasource.dll from ?
[17:04] <taqattack> So the problem is with encoding options. Specifically x264 options?
[17:13] <elinenbe> hi there, quick question. Is there anyway to run an amovie filter on a live stream? Eg, this works: "ffmpeg -y -f lavfi -i amovie="my_local_file.flv",silencedetect=n=-23dB:d=1 -f null - " but I can't do it on this eg: "ffmpeg -y -f lavfi -i amovie=http://www.example.com/web_file.flv,silencedetect=n=-23dB:d=1 -f null -"

[01:28] <v3nu5> hi im looking for a program to convert mp4 to avi for window 7 free thx for help
[01:30] <taqattack> click on file
[01:30] <taqattack> press F2
[01:30] <taqattack> change .mp4 to .avi
[01:31] <burek> hahaha
[01:31] <burek> :D
[01:31] <burek> nice one :D
[01:32] <burek> v3nu5, do you want to remux your media or reencode?
[01:32] <v3nu5> reencode, my old dvd player dont wanna read mp4
[01:32] <burek> mp4 is a container
[01:32] <burek> avi is too
[01:32] <burek> what is inside that container is what your player can't read
[01:33] <burek> and that thing inside is called stream (audio/video), which was encoded using a specific encoder
[01:33] <burek> try using ffmpeg just to remux the file with: ffmpeg -i input.mp4 -vcodec copy -acodec copy output.avi
[01:33] <burek> see if that works
[01:34] <v3nu5> ok thx
[01:45] <taqattack> burek: Do you have any idea why ffmpeg is eating up all this RAM? I've tried with both native rtmp and librtmp, and the issue still remains.
[01:45] <burek> taqattack, try asking in #ffmpeg-devel
[01:46] <burek> that's something that has to be analyzed more thoroughly
[01:49] <taqattack> Okay
[01:49] <taqattack> Thanks
[02:26] <zcat> Hi, midentify shows a bunch of codec info, but does ffmpeg have a way of also showing which profile an h264 vid was encoded with?
[02:27] <burek> afaik ffmpeg does show the profile
[02:29] <burek> for example here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/10034059/ffprobe-shows-bitrate-of-0-0-or…
[02:29] <burek> Stream #0.0: Video: h264 (High)
[02:32] <zcat> burek, yes, thanks, but 'high' covers a few categories. i'm just curious how many videos I have that are of profile >high(a)4.1, since AMD's XvBA can't accelerate 'em
[02:32] <burek> 4.1 is a level
[02:33] <burek> and I'm not sure how to get that info from ffmpeg directly, maybe you can use ffprobe
[02:39] <zcat> burek, thanks. probably just easiest to sort by bitrate then.
[02:54] <silverrocker> what does idc stand for?
[02:55] <burek> i don't care?
[02:55] <silverrocker> no, in profile_idc and all these other things with idc behind it
[02:55] <burek> :)))))
[02:55] <burek> oh, ok :)
[03:20] <Zaita> What would cause url_fopen(&_formatContext->pb, _fileName.data(), URL_WRONLY); to return -2 (ENOENT) ? Does the file have to already exist empty?
[03:28] <Zaita> But only when I am trying to create .mp4 container, and it works fine with an .avi container
[03:29] <burek> Zaita, you might ask in #libav maybe or #ffmpeg-devel but be patient, because developers don't have much free time :)
[03:30] <Zaita> THanks

[04:07] <fling> which SDI devices can I capture?
[04:07] <fling> I need a list, please.
[04:07] <fling> Can't find it
[04:19] <Matt__> Hi, did anyone else run into a problem trying to install ffmpeg-php, error: CODEC_TYPE_VIDEO undeclared
[04:33] <buhman> is it possible to multithread a h.264 encode job over multiple physical computers?
[04:34] <fling> buhman: http://omion.dyndns.org/x264farm/x264farm.html
[04:36] <buhman> hrm
[04:37] <buhman> can ffmpeg use an "x264farm" codec? :P
[04:40] <fling> can I capture from gstreamer? > http://schleef.org/2011/03/24/gstreamer-sdi-capture-plugins/
[04:40] <fling> can I oputput video to sdi card?
[06:24] <hellop> Is there anything I can do in ffmpeg to identify/resolve these errors?: concealing 3600 DC, 3600 AC, 3600 MV errors
[06:25] <hellop> full ffmpeg command and output here: http://pastebin.com/9G07ALVc
[06:28] <relaxed> hellop: Did you try without -re? why did you omit part of the output?
[06:32] <hellop> Hi, thanks. Yes I did try. The only difference seems to be the bitrate goes up. (that's the writing bitrate, right?) Sorry, I omitted that part to save space. Here is without -re:http://pastebin.com/Skk2Etca
[06:34] <hellop> It's a live stream, so I don't understand how the incoming bitrate would change.
[06:37] <relaxed> hellop: try dumping the stream with mplayer first, then encode with ffmpeg.
[06:38] <hellop> Can anyone point to a resource where I can figure out with these errors mean? Since I can't see the source bitrate, I'm trying to figure out if it's, bandwidth, packet loss, or improperly encoded.
[06:39] <relaxed> mplayer -dumpstream -dumpfile OUTPUT $url
[06:39] <relaxed> it's having trouble decoding the video, "[h264 @ 0xa2f0c20] Missing reference picture" & "[h264 @ 0xa2f0c20] decode_slice_header error"
[06:40] <hellop> I only see the reference picture error when I start the stream, so I thought that might be because it's not starting on a keyframe.
[06:42] <taqattack> What causes "[dshow @ 0156f620] real-time buffer 232% full! frame dropped!"
[06:50] <hellop> relaxed, thanks for the suggestion. This is the 4th tool that has problems with the stream. mplayer err: rtsp_session: unsupported RTSP server. Server type is 'unknown'. STREAM_LIVE555, Stream not seekable!
[06:51] <hellop> Do you think the problem is that the Camera has an incompatible encoding? i.e. camera is just buggy
[07:11] <hellop> So, mplayer just exits. Can anyone offer any insight as to what is wrong with the stream? Like, defective camera, improperly implemented H264 encoding, network issues... Need advice on how to troubleshoot/identify this.
[09:14] <cbreak-work> the newest ffmpeg can no longer open simple apple movie trailers
[09:21] <cbreak-work> nb_streams is 0
[09:44] <zap0> 'simple'
[09:58] <cbreak-work> well. It did manage to open them on n0.10.2
[09:58] <cbreak-work> doing a bisect at the moment
[09:59] <cbreak-work> but there are weird crashes, where long_name is a pointer with the value 0x1c00000000
[09:59] <cbreak-work> or other strange things
[09:59] <cbreak-work> like ffmpeg trying to mmap(size=157911088148480)
[10:00] <cbreak-work> maybe bisect jumped to some binary incompatible version
[10:36] <fling> relaxed: hey :p can you tell me about SDI capture + playback?
[10:51] <cbreak-work> it's also weird that sometimes ffmpeg builds ffprobe, sometimes it builds avprobe
[10:57] <cbreak-work> ah well, I guess newer versions are just broken.
[11:15] <cbreak-work> If anyone else wants to try it: http://trailers.apple.com/movies/disney/brave/brave-tlr3_h1080p.mov can not be read with libavformat/libavcodec fc882b
[11:17] <cbreak-work> f139838 can do it without problem
[11:18] <ubitux> cbreak-work: fc882b looks like an invalid hash; could you continue on the -devel channel?
[11:21] <cbreak-work> fc882b6e9c35fb22845c62cffa71f6eedb550db9 was just committed.
[11:22] <cbreak-work> but I bisected my way around a bit, and the problem was not created with that one, it's quite long standing I think. But the bisect didn't really work well so I don't think good conclusions can be taken
[11:23] <StaRetji> folks, would someone compile and create latest ffmpeg ipk for mipsel for me
[11:23] <StaRetji> I'm willing to pay to favor
[11:24] <StaRetji> I don't have space to compile myself and failed so far to do cross-compile
[11:24] <StaRetji> I need, ffmpeg, x264, aac and rtmp support :)
[13:18] <Radex> hi, after migration to 0.10 i'm getting warrning: "Incompatible sample format 's16' for codec 'aac', auto-selecting format 'flt'
[13:18] <Radex> it's passible to select flt using presets? i can't find it in doc
[13:30] <dhvu> At least some ASF files written by ffmpeg turn out to be incompatible with Helix and asfbin. Is anybody aware of this problem or anything related? Thanks!
[13:51] <rainmaker1> Hi, I have a stream that's already h264 but I would like to reduce bitrate. Is this possible using copy option for codec?
[13:58] <sacarasc> No.
[14:05] <hackeron> hey, question, I have an RTSP over http stream provided by a cheap Analog to IP Adapter on http://192.168.0.126/test.cmp -- FFMPEG can read it just fine. Is there anyway to use ffmpeg to turn that stream into an mjpeg stream (listening on a socket) instead of saving to a file?
[14:08] <llrcombs> hackeron: that sounds like more of a VLC-type thing than just ffmpeg
[14:08] <llrcombs> I could be wrong, but I don't think ffmpeg does that
[14:08] <hackeron> llrcombs: VLC can't play this stream :/
[14:09] <llrcombs> can you use a named pipe to receive the stream with ffmpeg, then broadcast it with vlc?
[14:10] <hackeron> hmm, maybe - I will try
[14:16] <StaRetji> hackeron: hm, let me think
[14:16] <StaRetji> if it can stream to rtmp server, it should stream for you too
[14:26] <hackeron> StaRetji: if what can stream to rtmp server?
[14:27] <hackeron> StaRetji: I'm doing ffmpeg -i http://192.168.0.126/test.cmp -o test.avi -- the test.cmp is identified as Stream #0:0: Video: mpeg4, yuv420p, 720x576 [SAR 1:1 DAR 5:4], 100 fps, 100 tbr, 100 tbn, 100 tbc
[14:29] <hackeron> StaRetji: but for some reason vlc won't play it, all I see is packetizer_mpegvideo debug: waiting for sequence start
[14:30] <StaRetji> ehm, you want to play it with vlc or you want to push it to a server
[14:30] <StaRetji> I thought you want to push it to server
[14:31] <hackeron> StaRetji: I want to turn the video into mjpeg and use ffsesrver or something so that another process can get the mjpeg -- for instance on localhost:4444
[14:31] <hackeron> StaRetji: so that I can do wget localhost:4444 and get the mjpeg
[14:33] <StaRetji> ffmpeg -i http://10.0.1.18:31344 -acodec libfaac -ar 22050 -vcodec libx264 -preset:v veryfast -maxrate 1792k -bufsize 5376k -filter:v yadif -f flv rtmp://10.0.1.2/live/livestream1
[14:33] <StaRetji> here is how I do it with rtmp
[14:33] <hackeron> StaRetji: I want the output to be mjpeg
[14:33] <StaRetji> I'm no expert but maybe play with value
[14:34] <StaRetji> here is -vcodec
[14:34] <StaRetji> libx264 does job for me, check what value is for mjpeg
[14:35] <StaRetji> for example, I guess you wont be needing -preset:v veryfast
[14:35] <hackeron> how do I get a list of values for vcodec?
[14:36] <hackeron> so presumably if I do ffmpeg -i http://admin:admin@192.168.0.126/test.cmp -vcodec libx264 localhost:4444 --- I should be able to open another terminal window and do wget localhost:4444 to get the x264?
[14:36] <hackeron> that just says: [NULL @ 0x7fb550852a00] Unable to find a suitable output format for 'localhost:4444'
[14:36] <StaRetji> -vcodec mjpeg
[14:36] <StaRetji> ?
[14:36] <hackeron> localhost:4444: Invalid argument
[14:37] <StaRetji> ehm, no, I didn't pasted code to literally use it
[14:37] <StaRetji> just to get idea
[14:38] <hackeron> StaRetji: My problem is the bit where I take the video out of ffmpeg and have it served from a socket
[14:39] <hackeron> StaRetji: this works: ffmpeg -i http://admin:admin@192.168.0.126/test.cmp -vcodec mjpeg output.mjpeg -- but how do I now instead of writing to file, serve the mjpeg from a socket?
[14:39] <hackeron> StaRetji: in your command you just specify a URL instead of a filename? -- but that doesn't seem to work
[14:40] <StaRetji> well, I have rtmp server and like this, I push to rtmp
[14:40] <StaRetji> have you checked docs?
[14:41] <hackeron> StaRetji: ah, so I'll need to write a server that will accept mjpeg and then accept client connections?
[14:41] <hackeron> StaRetji: can't find anything in the documentation about serving the video - there's ffserver it seems, just reading the documentation for that
[14:41] <StaRetji> yes
[14:41] <StaRetji> you check docs
[14:41] <hackeron> which ones? ffserver?
[14:42] <StaRetji> both??
[14:42] <StaRetji> lol
[14:42] <StaRetji> :)
[14:42] <StaRetji> btw, why it has to mjpeg?
[14:42] <StaRetji> has to be*
[14:42] <hackeron> StaRetji: I think I get it :) - so ffmpeg can output to a server but if I want to serve mjpeg I need to write my own server or possibly use ffserver :)
[14:43] <StaRetji> yes
[14:43] <StaRetji> I mean, I'm not aware that ffmpeg can server more than 1 client (push)
[14:43] <hackeron> StaRetji: I'm using motion detection software (http://www.lavrsen.dk/foswiki/bin/view/Motion/MotionGuide) that only works on mjpeg streams - so I need to convert this mpeg4 rtsp over http to mjpeg
[14:44] <StaRetji> oh, hm,
[14:44] <StaRetji> that is bad luck
[14:44] <hackeron> heh, meh, should be doable :)
[14:45] <hackeron> will also look at gstreamer but last I tried it didn't like this stream either - seems ffmpeg is the only thing that will read it :/
[14:45] <StaRetji> ffmpeg_video_codec Values: mpeg1 (ffmpeg-0.4.8 only), mpeg4, msmpeg4, swf, flv, ffv1, mov Default: mpeg4
[14:45] <StaRetji> so, camera is giving what?
[14:46] <dhvu> Regarding my question regarding ASF compatibility, I'd like to test whether adding a silent audio track fixes my problem. In order to obtain this, how would I have to change the command line "ffmpeg -f vc1 -i raw_vc1 -vcodec copy test.asf" ?
[14:46] <StaRetji> I mean, link you gave do not mention mjpeg
[14:46] <hackeron> it's an Analog to IP adapter, it's giving: Input #0, nc, from 'http://admin:admin@192.168.0.126/test.cmp':
[14:46] <ubitux> ffmpeg 0.4.8, wait what?
[14:46] <ubitux> :D
[14:46] <hackeron> Duration: N/A, bitrate: N/A
[14:46] <hackeron> Stream #0:0: Video: mpeg4, yuv420p, 720x576 [SAR 1:1 DAR 5:4], 100 fps, 100 tbr, 100 tbn, 100 tbc
[14:47] <hackeron> it is activex only, I got the /test.cmp URL with wireshark, heh - it's very glitchy, if I enable audio ffmpeg no longer understands the stream
[14:49] <StaRetji> well, not sure if I follow, you have camera, then analog to ip adapter and streams in mjpeg?
[14:50] <hackeron> StaRetji: no, I have an analog camera, I connect it to analog to IP adapter and it outputs this weird mpeg4 over http on http://admin:admin@192.168.0.126/test.cmp -- but I need mjpeg, not mpeg4, so I'm looking for a way to turn the mpeg4 to mjpeg
[14:51] <StaRetji> got it, but software for motion detection, from link you gave here, do not mention mjpeg
[14:52] <StaRetji> it clearly says: ffmpeg_video_codec Values: mpeg1 (ffmpeg-0.4.8 only), mpeg4, msmpeg4, swf, flv, ffv1, mov Default: mpeg4
[14:52] <hackeron> StaRetji: this is output, not input
[14:52] <hackeron> StaRetji: input is only v4l and mjpeg
[14:53] <hackeron> StaRetji: "Motion can connect to a network camera through a normal TCP socket. All you need to give it is the URL. The URL given must return either one single jpeg picture or an mjpeg stream. For the time being Motion cannot connect to a video stream such a mpeg, mpeg4, divx. The URL must return one single jpeg image or an mjpeg stream! You can connect through a proxy server."
[14:53] <StaRetji> damn lol
[14:54] <hackeron> aha, heh - so I need to turn the mpeg4 to mjpeg somehow :)
[14:54] <StaRetji> so you have mpeg4 which you need to convert to mjpeg
[14:54] <hackeron> yep :P
[14:55] <StaRetji> ffmpeg -i video.mpg image%d.jpg
[14:56] <StaRetji> Turn a video to X images
[14:56] <hackeron> StaRetji: motion can only read from a TCP socket, not from files
[14:56] <StaRetji> yes, let's see
[14:56] <StaRetji> one by one
[14:56] <hackeron> heh, ok :)
[15:00] <hackeron> StaRetji: then what?
[15:00] <StaRetji> well, as I see, it seems that you have to make ffserver and then config file
[15:00] <StaRetji> something like http://ffmpeg-users.933282.n4.nabble.com/mjpeg-output-stream-issue-td306065…
[15:00] <StaRetji> this guys had troubles with it
[15:00] <StaRetji> but I think it is good way to start
[15:01] <StaRetji> ffmpeg -i http://admin:admin@192.168.0.126/test.cmp http://ffserverip:8090/feed1.ffm
[15:01] <StaRetji> sonmethug like that
[15:01] <StaRetji> something*
[15:02] <StaRetji> feed1.ffm will hold conf for your output
[15:05] <StaRetji> burek / cevap / 10 upola s'lukom mate, are you here?
[15:05] <StaRetji> :)
[15:07] <StaRetji> burek: sorry mate, if you can ping me when you are available, I would like to ask you something, thx
[15:21] <hackeron> hmm, can someone explain the #Launch ffmpeg option in ffserver? - ffserver can launch the ffmpeg itself? - is there an example?
[15:23] <hackeron> does this look right? http://pastie.org/3810509
[15:24] <hackeron> it appears to be running but when I run curl http://127.0.0.1:8090/stream.mjpg -- all I get is --ffserver and nothing more :/
[15:24] <hackeron> I see one warning: Wed Apr 18 14:22:42 2012 Codec bitrates do not match for stream 0
[17:47] <ckb> I know this probably isn't a question for FFMPEG, but can someone explain to me how DRM works exactly?
[17:48] <ckb> DRM will not prevent a user from rtmpdumping my RTMP stream, right?
[17:49] <iive> drm is cryptographic scheme where the attacker is one of the recipients.
[17:49] <edgy> Hi, I want to ffmpeg -i file.rm file.mp3 but keep the original bitrate, how?
[17:49] <ckb> iive: explain?
[17:50] <iive> in crypto you usually have 2 people, who want to communicate, while there is 3'd one, attacker, who wants to intercept their communications, and even change it.
[17:50] <iive> with DRM you use crypto, to limit what the user can do with the content.
[17:51] <iive> however the user must be able to watch the content, that implies he must be able to decode it.
[17:51] <iive> so basically DRM is just an obfuscation scheme.
[17:52] <ckb> okay& so Flowplayer has a Secure DRM plugin, but requires authorization. Does this mean I must put the user's username/password in plaintext if I don't want to display a login box?
[17:53] <ckb> it just confuses me as to how DRM works. I feel like it's just like a penny.. a copper plating on top of zinc
[17:53] <ckb> or like a swarovski crystal
[17:58] <vertrex> hi
[17:59] <vertrex> Does we have to set manually the flags AVFMT_FLAG_CUSTOM_IO in the AVIOContext structure when settings a pb (IOContext) for using custom IO
[18:00] <vertrex> it seem its done automatically by avformat_open_input but when calling av_close_input_file the buffer inside IOContext and IOContext them selves are never freed this causing a memory leak
[18:01] <edgy> vertrex: If I can't find someone to answer my basic question, I doubt that you find an answer to your this obscure question ;)
[18:02] <vertrex> hehe lol edgy, maybe I found some bug or doing somethings wrong but now it's ok for me it's fixed but could be useful for someone else
[18:02] <edgy> vertrex: then can you help me in my basic question
[18:02] <vertrex> what was your basic question ?
[18:02] <edgy> vertrex: I want to ffmpeg -i file.rm file.mp3 but keep the original bitrate, how?
[18:03] <vertrex> haha lol I don't know just use the lib directly to create thumbnail of movie but didn't use the exe :)
[18:04] <elinenbe> Hi there, quick question. Is there anyway to run an amovie filter on a live stream? Eg, this works: "ffmpeg -y -f lavfi -i amovie="my_local_file.flv",silencedetect=n=-23dB:d=1 -f null - " but I can't do it on this eg: "ffmpeg -y -f lavfi -i amovie=http://www.example.com/web_file.flv,silencedetect=n=-23dB:d=1 -f null -" I can't do it on a pipe or a streaming file... is there anyway around this?
[18:04] <ubitux> try escaping the : in the http://
[18:18] <elinenbe> ubitux: no workie!
[20:24] <taqattack> So is there a way to get constant framerate for output using libx264?
[20:35] <gustavo_cm> Hello guys. When I encode with libx264 I can set the quality of the encoding; can I do that with libvpx?
[20:35] <gustavo_cm> (I can do it with -vpre, for example. But I can't find any encoding profile/level/etc. for libvpx)
[20:36] <JEEB> I don't think vp8 has anything like profiles/levels
[20:36] <JEEB> and I don't think they have an alternative for the x264's crf setting IIRC
[20:37] <gustavo_cm> JEEB: thanks. But I don't know what's crf nor IIRC...
[20:37] <JEEB> If I Recall Correctly
[20:37] <JEEB> crf is the "constant quality" setting of x264's
[20:37] <JEEB> (constant rate factor)
[20:38] <JEEB> from x264's help "--crf <float> Quality-based VBR (0-51) [23.0]" (the ffmpeg setting is -crf)
[20:41] <gustavo_cm> JEEB: hm, got it. Thanks. I don't use -crf, I use "-vpre max" to get the better quality in the minimum disk space.
[20:41] <JEEB> uuhhh
[20:41] <JEEB> that's not quality
[20:41] <JEEB> that's the compression/speed preset stuff
[20:41] <gustavo_cm> JEEB: best fidelity to original?
[20:41] <JEEB> also, you nowadays use -preset to set x264's internal presets
[20:42] <gustavo_cm> Hamm
[20:42] <Peace-> i have a problem with ffmpeg
[20:42] <JEEB> gustavo_cm, I have no idea what the preset file does, but as far as I am concerned the non-lossless x264 presets just set settings to match a certain speed/compression preset
[20:43] <Peace-> until test "true" = `qdbus $mystufvariabletouseonmyscript wasCancelled` ; do echo ffmpeg -i ~/output.avi -y hello.mp4 ; done
[20:43] <gustavo_cm> JEEB: thanks for that. Is that better to use x264's presets instead of ffmpeg's? Why?
[20:43] <Peace-> if i set false it doesn't stop
[20:44] <Peace-> i have tried the same code with another software and it works
[20:44] <JEEB> gustavo_cm, the ffmpeg's presets used to exist just because first x264 didn't have such, and then later because no-one had implemented that part of the API in ffmpeg. Now it's there and there's no reason not to use it
[20:44] <JEEB> http://mewiki.project357.com/wiki/X264_Settings#preset
[20:47] <gustavo_cm> JEEB: thanks. Do you know what's "placebo"?
[20:47] <JEEB> it's exactly what it says on the tin. "All knobs to eleven"
[20:48] <JEEB> in other words, everything set to max -- with the expense of all speed
[20:48] <JEEB> also, of course this only governs the amount of time x264 will put into compression
[20:49] <gustavo_cm> JEEB: thanks! I'll try with -preset
[20:49] <gustavo_cm> JEEB: haha, I have no "preset" option, I'm using ffmpeg 0.6.2 in Trisquel
[20:49] <JEEB> lol
[20:49] <gustavo_cm> Which I should have updated already
[20:49] <JEEB> yeah, that's old
[20:50] <gustavo_cm> o/
[20:50] <JEEB> also, you will have to set a crf value or bitrate value depending on whether you just want quality X compressed as well as possible, or the best quality to a known set size you want to achieve
[20:52] <JEEB> (and for a set bitrate you most probably want to use two passes)
[20:53] <gustavo_cm> JEEB: got it, thanks.
[20:53] <gustavo_cm> JEEB: I'm encoding with "-threads 2" in a dual-core machine, it goes slower than with one thread only. Is that normal?
[20:54] <JEEB> with x264 the default should be "auto"
[20:54] <JEEB> which is 1.5x<core count>
[20:56] <gustavo_cm> JEEB: threads==1.5*cores, you mean?
[20:57] <JEEB> something like that, you can check the exact code in x264
[20:57] <gustavo_cm> thanks
[20:58] <iive> JEEB: isn't this sign that the OS scheduler is not working correctly?
[20:58] <iive> aka the need to have more threads than cores.
[20:59] <JEEB> dunno, it was tested at some point to be seen as a nice number. You probably would have to ask around #x264dev for more specific answers
[21:03] <JEEB> gustavo_cm, also if you are going to update your ffmpeg I recommend updating your libx264 as well :)
[21:07] <andrew__> Is there a way to use ffprobe to see the file format of a stream
[21:07] <andrew__> say something from m.youtube.com
[21:08] <andrew__> ?
[21:09] <gustavo_cm> JEEB: ok, thanks! I'm upgrading my system right now (new dist. release), will see it later.
[23:52] <hellop> I have used ffmpeg to create keyframe aligned files. Is there a way to check the keyframe timestamps of files with ffmpeg or something else?

[12:50] <merbanan> ubitux: anyway the libav resample lib work will be a step forward in handling audio
[12:50] <merbanan> but as you say we should code more and troll less
[12:57] <ubitux> merbanan: forward in what sense?
[12:57] <ubitux> i'd say i mean ffmpeg already has the features, and the audio filtering&
[12:57] <ubitux> libav ppl are just rewriting everything differently
[12:58] <ubitux> the only thing they will achieve is to piss off users
[12:59] <merbanan> simd optimization and delay compensation for example
[13:00] <ubitux> that couldn't be done in libswresample?
[13:00] <merbanan> sure it could
[13:01] <merbanan> but I'm not doing the work
[13:01] <ubitux> i really don't think it's a step forward
[13:06] <merbanan> it's a step forward in the sense that someone works on improving audio handling
[13:06] <merbanan> we'll see how good it is after the work is done
[13:07] <michaelni> merbanan, we maintain libswresample
[13:07] <michaelni> SIMD optims will be added
[13:07] <michaelni> and in case libav ever adds optimizations to their rewriten version ill merge them very very quickly
[13:08] <michaelni> also just in case its unclear libswresample supports everything libavresample does
[13:09] <michaelni> its a big mystery to me why that rewrite was started
[13:09] <Compn> they wanted it, but they didnt want to merge things from ffmpeg, apparently
[13:09] <Compn> :P
[13:09] <ubitux> merbanan: at least michaelni, nicolas and i worked on audio handling this last year
[13:10] <ubitux> libav just completly ignored this, and now they realise they are far behind; but instead of reusing the work done, they're just rewritting that stuff completely
[13:10] <ubitux> so no, sorry, but it's not a step forward
[13:11] <michaelni> also merbanan i volunteered to implement all features libav or ffmtech want for free in libswresample
[13:11] <michaelni> why is ffmtech wasting money on this rewrite ?
[13:11] <michaelni> this is not in the interrest of the community not ffmpegs not libavs or anyone elses ..
[13:16] <Compn> it is if libav doesnt want any "Copyright (C) 2011 Michael Niedermayer" in thier tree :P
[13:19] <Compn> but i'm just trolling
[13:20] <ubitux> well, afaik the libavresample code is based on the old audio api, from which michael is the author (and i remember seeing credits to him actually)
[13:21] <ubitux> but i guess code is "different", to say "hey we are doing things better [/differently]"
[13:21] <ubitux> but i'm just trolling too ;)
[13:22] <av500> cool, let me troll as well
[13:24] <ubitux> no time is up, it's time to code now
[13:25] <av500> void troll( void );
[13:30] <iive> I thought the problem is with git. Aka it cannot merge things from the downstream into the upstream.
[13:33] <Compn> :D
[13:35] <iive> talking about ffmtech, have there been new election? It was about this time last year.
[13:36] <Compn> libav removing lowres support eh?
[13:37] <iive> Compn: well, i'm not fan of lowres either. I've talked against it even before the takeover&fork. But I would have liked a few benchmarks, before and after.
[13:37] <av500> benchmark of what?
[13:37] <iive> of decoding speed.
[13:38] <av500> of the lowres decode?
[13:38] <av500> or of highres decode?
[13:38] <iive> of decoding with lowres=0 and decoding with lowres removed.
[13:38] <av500> prolly no difference
[13:39] <ubitux> lowres could be used for visual analysis i guess
[13:39] <iive> there is always a difference. it may be less than 1%, but it could be measured.
[13:39] <av500> I dont think removing lowres made the code slower
[13:40] <iive> never implied that. I just would have liked to see the benchmarks.
[13:41] <av500> I dont see the point
[13:41] <iive> if the difference is 1%, then it is quite huge improvement, for a feature that is never used.
[13:42] <iive> And it would have been good PR for libav folks. "We made libav faster"
[13:44] <iive> instead of "we didn't make libav slower" ;)

[19:08] <elinenbe> is anyone here?
[19:11] <Daemon404> perhaps
[19:14] <elinenbe> QQ that I can't find an answer to. Using 10.2 -- is is possible to pipe something to amovie (instead of a filename)?
[19:14] <elinenbe> eg, this works: ffmpeg -y -f lavfi -i amovie=elvisradio.flv,silencedetect=n=-23dB:d=1 -f null -
[19:14] <elinenbe> but cat elvisradio.flv | ffmpeg -y -f lavfi -i amovie=pipe,silencedetect=n=-23dB:d=1 -f null -
[19:14] <elinenbe> does not work
[19:15] <Daemon404> er
[19:15] <Daemon404> im not sure what the heck youre trying to do?
[19:15] <Daemon404> oh
[19:15] <Daemon404> pipe to the filter?
[19:15] <Daemon404> and then back to output?
[19:21] <elinenbe> Yes, I'm trying to pipe to a filter.
[19:21] <elinenbe> But it seems to only work with a filename.
[19:22] <elinenbe> This is the silencedetect filter that outputs text to standard out when silences occur
[19:24] <Daemon404> im not sure amovie has pipe support
[19:24] <Daemon404> saste would know, but he isnt here right now
[19:25] <ubitux> elinenbe: maybe you can simulate the behaviour with a mkpipe
[19:25] <Daemon404> named pipes yo
[19:25] <ubitux> mkfifo sorry
[19:26] <elinenbe> mkfifo? not famalir with it... let me take a look.
[19:28] <elinenbe> looks cool... trying it out now
[19:29] <elinenbe> very ineresting. Lemme see if I can get everything working properly
[19:43] <elinenbe> eh... no dice.
[20:26] <Compn> elinenbe : you have to do -i - i think
[20:26] <Compn> cat file.flv | ffmpeg -i -
[20:26] <Compn> but it will also input ffmpeg text to stdout which isnt good

[21:12] <Daemon404> michaelni, im struggling to understand what you said about abe0b8e9f378a0f8781c1a3da6714d20cfd19594
[21:12] Action: Daemon404 isnt sure what michaelni means by color bias
[21:15] <elinenbe> Hi there... anyone here? trying to push a stream coming from librtmp through amovie, but I can't seem to make this work... any suggestions?
[21:37] <michaelni> Daemon404, its simple
[21:38] <michaelni> in 8bit 128 is gray
[21:38] <michaelni> neutral gray, not redish gray not bluish
[21:38] <michaelni> in 12bit 2048 is gray
[21:38] <michaelni> 128<<4 == 2048
[21:39] <Daemon404> i guess that makes sense for PC range
[21:39] <Daemon404> btw michaelni.. afaik nothing even uses that function for PC rage
[21:39] <Daemon404> range*
[21:39] <Daemon404> everything full/pc range is said to be "YUVJ"
[21:39] <Daemon404> e.g. the h264 decoder
[21:40] <michaelni> 128 is gray in both variants
[21:40] <Daemon404> i know
[21:40] <Daemon404> but im saying i dont think anythign uses c->srcRange
[21:40] <nevcairiel> swscale internally renames YUVJ to YUV and sets the range flag
[21:40] <Daemon404> i couldnt even get it to trigger manually
[21:42] <Daemon404> YUVJ certainly doesn't,
[21:43] <Daemon404> (i put debug messages in and they were never tripped)
[21:44] <michaelni> c->srcRange = handle_jpeg(&srcFormat); <---- this should
[21:46] <Daemon404> michaelni, well that wrapper seems to never be called
[21:46] <Daemon404> :|

[23:44] <ubitux> elinenbe: atm amovie is a limited workaround to use the audio filtering; it's meant to evolve, but in the current state i'm afraid the mkfifo is one of the only workaround (if you're able to make it work)
[23:44] <ubitux> also, no point in asking libav, they don't have audio filtering atm
[23:44] <ubitux> (refering to your question on #libav)
[23:45] <ubitux> i wonder if hacking the complex filter system for audio will require much work&

[08:09] <igmrlm> g'day, does libvo_aacenc support 5.1 audio?
[08:15] <igmrlm> http://pastebin.com/PLJV5kWP
[09:03] <_genuser_> hello people.
[09:03] <_genuser_> ubuntu version of ffmpeg says it's not supported anymore.
[09:03] <_genuser_> This program is not developed anymore and is only provided for compatibility. Use avconv instead (see Changelog for the list of incompatible changes).
[09:07] <TimNich> Ubuntu version of ffmpeg is the one shipped from the Libav fork, who don't support it, they use avconv instead. However ffmpeg is still developed by the rest of the original team, and others..
[09:09] <_genuser_> cool. :) as long as ffmpeg works and does what it does.
[09:09] <_genuser_> thx
[09:09] <_genuser_> for the info
[09:09] <TimNich> the best ffmpeg is usually git master. distro snapshots are usually woefully out of date as it moves that fast
[09:10] <_genuser_> well, I use a win version also. so whenever someone cross comiles that one...
[09:11] <_genuser_> on linux I mainly use gentoo but on ubuntu it spat out the warning and I was curious if ffmpeg is allo foa sudden moving to another app.
[09:11] <TimNich> the Zerano win builds are usually prety up to date, but miss some of the useful things like faac
[09:12] <_genuser_> this one I use decodes aac but doesn't encode. whihc is good enough. I use neroaac for encoding.
[09:12] <_genuser_> then ffmpeg for muxing.
[09:15] <_genuser_> this one was shipped with automen.
[09:19] <igmrlm> so any ideas whether ffmpeg supports 5.1 channel aac in mp4?
[09:21] <TimNich> supports in what way?
[09:21] <rainmaker1> heh which one we should use now ffmpeg or avconv? I have read http://libav.org/index.html#fftools_rename
[09:21] <rainmaker1> and it's still not clear, is ffmpeg developed anymore or not? (ie only fix)
[09:21] <igmrlm> i cant seem to make it happen :p
[09:22] <igmrlm> http://pastebin.com/PLJV5kWP
[09:22] <ubitux> rainmaker1: ffmpeg is still maintained, libav is a fork, ffmpeg maintain the fftools (
[09:23] <ubitux> http://ffmpeg.org)
[09:23] <TimNich> rainmaker1: that link is old. ffmpeg has had many API tweaks to make it more consistent, and yes it is developed, not just fixed
[09:23] <rainmaker1> ubitux: ffmpeg will be kept in its current state for some time, so no scripts or frontends using it will break. However it will not be developed further.
[09:24] <rainmaker1> ah
[09:24] <rainmaker1> thank you guys
[09:24] <TimNich> morning ubitux
[09:24] <rainmaker1> now it's all clear :)
[09:24] <ubitux> rainmaker1: this is libav text; ffmpeg isn't kept in its current state
[09:25] <ubitux> and btw, libav already droped ffmpeg
[09:25] <ubitux> hey TimNich :)
[09:25] <ubitux> TimNich: care to check the mov timecode patch?
[09:25] <rainmaker1> tnx :)
[09:25] <ubitux> so ffmpeg just does everything avconv does
[09:26] <ubitux> plus a few more things
[09:26] <TimNich> ubitux: will do when I've finished playing catch up
[09:26] <ubitux> TimNich: if it requires a rebase ask me, i'll do it asap
[09:27] <igmrlm> if i change -ac to 2 instead of 6 it works fine
[09:30] <igmrlm> says [libvo_aacenc @ 03A148C0] Unable to set encoding parameters
[09:30] <igmrlm> :c
[09:34] <TimNich> probably the mapping as the input is 5.1 and the output 6, but its not my area sorry
[09:34] <igmrlm> ya, i tried -ac 5.1 but then it says "Expected int64 for ac but found 5.1"
[09:34] <igmrlm> hahah
[10:10] <igmrlm> i found an existing h.264 mp4 with 5.1 channel aac audio, apparently was made with lavf54.3.100
[11:08] <haakon_> Should I compile with libfaac or libfaacplus?
[11:08] <haakon_> Oh, my bad, I mis-read
[11:09] <JEEB> depends on if you want HE-AAC or AAC, also it's libaacplus I think
[11:09] <haakon_> JEEB: You're absolutely correct
[11:09] <JEEB> libfaac = normal AAC, libaacplus = HE-AAC
[11:09] <JEEB> the first is for higher rates, the latter for lower rates
[11:11] <haakon_> Noted, thanks
[11:12] <JEEB> also, if you are aiming for some hardware, depending on the device it might or might not support HE-AAC
[11:12] <JEEB> f.ex. the PSP can only decode HE-AAC as normal AAC
[11:13] <haakon_> Aha, so, theorically, playback "should" function, only with a non-optimal decoder?
[11:13] <haakon_> For legacy devices
[11:13] <JEEB> at least the PSP does it, but you pretty much lose quality with that :V
[11:13] <haakon_> For "ERROR: libvpx decoder version must be >=0.9.1", I should --disable-decoder=libvpx?
[11:14] <JEEB> I wonder why you enabled that decoder to begin with o_O
[11:14] <JEEB> ffmpeg has a working libavcodec vp8 decoder
[11:14] <JEEB> which is faster than libvpx's as well
[11:15] <haakon_> I see. I'm not as updated on the progress, it seems. Thank you, I'll drop libvpx, then.
[11:24] <haakon_> JEEB: Does FFmpeg currently have a native VP8 encoder?
[11:29] <JEEB> haakon_, yes
[11:29] <JEEB> <JEEB> ffmpeg has a working libavcodec vp8 decoder
[11:29] <JEEB> <JEEB> which is faster than libvpx's as well

[19:01] <elinenbe> is it possible to pipe to a video filter?
[19:01] <elinenbe> eg, this works: ffmpeg -y -f lavfi -i amovie="elvisradio.flv",silencedetect=n=-23dB:d=1 -f null -
[19:02] <elinenbe> but this does not work : rtmpdump ... blah... blah ... | ffmpeg -y -f lavfi -i amovie=pipe:0,silencedetect=n=-23dB:d=1 -f null -
[19:03] <elinenbe> and I've been unable to use librtmp with ffmpeg since it has a handshake error.
[19:03] <elinenbe> even though rtmpdump works stand-alone

[21:24] <tyho> problem?
[21:55] <taqattack> Hello everyone.
[21:55] <taqattack> I'm getting huge memory usage when I'm using Directshow filter as video input. Any ideas why that might be the case?
[21:56] <burek> can you please use pastebin.com, to show your command line and its output?
[21:57] <taqattack> Certainly. Let me try to recreate the problem
[21:59] <elinenbe> is there anyway to use the silencedetect filter on a live stream?
[21:59] <elinenbe> I can't figure it out.
[22:01] <elinenbe> This works, but only for a local file : ffmpeg -y -f lavfi -i amovie="my_local_file.flv",silencedetect=n=-23dB:d=1 -f null -
[22:03] <taqattack> Okay. Just tried now. Memory was hovering around 1.8GB. http://pastebin.com/JVBVY2WM
[22:04] <burek> elinenbe, try removing quotes
[22:05] <burek> also, you can use that audio filter like
[22:05] <burek> ffmpeg -i http://... -vf 'silencedetect=...' -vcodec ...
[22:05] <burek> or -af
[22:05] <elinenbe> burek, I've tried that...
[22:05] <elinenbe> let me try again.
[22:05] <elinenbe> "-af" unrecognized option
[22:06] <burek> taqattack, it seems you hit a bug with rtmp
[22:06] <burek> can you report that bug to the ffmpeg's trac?
[22:06] <burek> elinenbe, then -vf
[22:06] <elinenbe> burek: ffmpeg -i my_local_file.flv -vf "silencedetect=n=-3db:d=1" -f null -
[22:06] <elinenbe> that doesn't do it.
[22:06] <elinenbe> gives me nothing back.
[22:06] <elinenbe> just pipes the file to null.
[22:07] <burek> then it's a bug I think
[22:08] <burek> filters are usually used like that
[22:08] <elinenbe> Yeah, I'm not sure.
[22:08] <burek> then use lavfi and read this http://ffmpeg.org/libavfilter.html
[22:09] <elinenbe> burek: I've read through that whole page. It works, but not if it is a streaming file.
[22:09] <taqattack> Hmm how do I do that?
[22:09] <elinenbe> I can't figure out how to pipe into amovie.
[22:09] <burek> elinenbe, try joining #libav and ask there too?
[22:10] <burek> taqattack
[22:10] <elinenbe> Thanks!
[22:10] <burek> :)
[22:11] <taqattack> Ok. Btw is the bug related to native RTMP in FFmpeg or Librtmp related?
[22:12] <elinenbe> taqattack: I'm attempting to use librtmp since it's an encoded files.
[22:12] <burek> [rtmp @ 016a8c40] Handshaking...
[22:12] <burek> I guess native rtmp
[22:12] <burek> otherwise it would say librtmp
[22:13] <elinenbe> oh, not a question for me... nevermind
[22:16] <tyho> http://pastebin.com/BABYqt97 I try to screenshot a file, but it just maxes out my processor and does nothing, i stopped it after a while with 'q'
[22:20] <burek> tyho, try to move -vframes 1 after -i
[22:21] <burek> before -y
[22:21] <tyho> k
[22:21] <tyho> still just increasing the drop
[22:22] <tyho> burek, does not make a differencce
[22:23] <burek> try moving it after -f image2
[22:23] <tyho> burek, nope
[22:24] <burek> http://ffmpeg.gusari.org/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=35
[22:25] <burek> instead of -r 1 you should put -vframes 1
[22:25] <burek> and that should work
[22:33] <tyho> burek, i think it is decoding the whole file and just outputting the selected frames, and dropping the rest
[22:33] <tyho> becasue it is very slpw
[22:33] <tyho> *slow
[22:34] <tyho> and gets slower the further away the screenshot is from the beginning
[22:37] <burek> tyho, I told you to modify that example
[22:37] <burek> and just replace with -vframes 1
[22:37] <tyho> i did
[22:37] <burek> if that doesn't work, then it's a bug
[22:37] <burek> update your ffmpeg to the latest git
[22:37] <burek> if it still persists, then you might report it as a bug if you like
[22:37] <tyho> oh wait
[22:38] <tyho> i just modified it
[22:38] <tyho> i was using the example before
[22:38] <tyho> but now it only takes the frist frame
[22:38] <tyho> do i do -ss?
[22:39] <tyho> ok
[22:39] <burek> well yes
[22:39] <tyho> so it decodes all the frames
[22:39] <burek> no
[22:39] <tyho> and only selects the ones i need
[22:39] <burek> -vframes just takes out 1 frame
[22:39] <tyho> but it is too slow
[22:39] <burek> and saves it as an image
[22:40] <burek> -ss does seek the file
[22:40] <burek> to the time you wish
[22:40] <burek> if you put it before -i then it will seek the file using metadata
[22:40] <burek> (key frames)
[22:40] <burek> if you put it after -i it will first decode input stream and then seek (more accurate)
[22:40] <tyho> this is my command "ffmpeg10 -ss 10 -i /media/sdd1/home/tyho/private/transmission/data/We.Were.Soldiers.2002.UK.BluRay.1080p.DTSHD-MA.h264.Remux-decibeL/We.Were.Soldiers.2002.UK.BluRay.1080p.DTSHD-MA.h264.Remux-decibeL.mkv -f image2 -vframes 1 screen%d.png"
[22:40] <tyho> it runs quite fast
[22:41] <tyho> if i change -ss to 1000 it is very slow
[22:41] <tyho> so does not seem to seek
[22:41] <burek> try with 20, 30, 100, 150, 400, 700
[22:42] <tyho> doing 100 now
[22:42] <tyho> dropping a load of frames
[22:42] <tyho> 2360 frames dropped
[22:42] <tyho> and it finished
[22:42] <tyho> btw i am doing this on a mobo with dual socket top xenons
[22:42] <tyho> so it will be fast
[22:43] <tyho> frame= 1 fps= 0 q=0.0 Lsize= 0kB time=00:00:00.04 bitrate= 0.0kbits/s dup=91 drop=2360
[22:43] <tyho> video:3117kB audio:0kB global headers:0kB muxing overhead -100.000000%
[22:43] <tyho> final line ^
[22:47] <tyho> burek, ^
[22:48] <burek> that's fine
[22:48] <burek> your cpu is slow
[22:49] <burek> wait it finished in 4 seconds?
[22:49] <burek> what's the problem then?
[22:49] <tyho> if i wanted to take a screenshot at the end of the video
[22:49] <tyho> it would have to decode the whole video
[22:49] <tyho> so it is not seeking
[22:50] <burek> it's not decoding
[22:50] <tyho> http://ffmpeg.org/trac/ffmpeg/ticket/389
[22:50] <burek> it's skiping frames using keyframes
[22:50] <tyho> mabey something to do witht hat
[22:50] <burek> how much time did it take
[22:50] <burek> for -ss 1000
[22:50] <tyho> ill time it
[22:51] <tyho> may be a while
[22:51] <tyho> it is 35GB
[22:54] <tyho> 3 minuites
[22:54] <tyho> burek,
[22:54] <tyho> burek ^
[22:54] <burek> so, it's seeking that slow
[22:54] <burek> try moving -ss after -i ...
[22:54] <tyho> yeah
[22:54] <burek> and time that
[22:55] <tyho> burek, the drop=x part of the last bit has gone
[22:56] <burek> just time it
[22:56] <tyho> it is being timed
[22:57] <tyho> 2:24
[22:57] <tyho> around the same
[22:57] <burek> well, I guess your video is damaged
[22:58] <burek> or your cpu is slow
[22:58] <burek> or there is a bug :)
[22:58] <burek> seeking should be a lot faster then decoding
[22:58] <burek> so, one of those is probably true :)
[22:59] <tyho> tried another video
[23:00] <tyho> instant seek
[23:00] <tyho> is there a way i can repair it?
[23:01] <burek> how did you create it?
[23:02] <tyho> the video stream was created by paramount pictures
[23:02] <tyho> it is not trancoded
[23:03] <burek> I don't know :) I'm not an expert :)
[23:05] <taqattack> Okay I just tried to run FFmpeg with a different build using librtmp. It's still giving me the huge memory error
[23:05] <taqattack> http://pastebin.com/SgpttCAZ
[23:05] <taqattack> That's the output
[23:06] <taqattack> So I'm pretty sure its not the RTMP or Librtmp that's causing this.

[14:16] <Compn> er i think ffplay already works on iphone
[14:16] <Compn> ffmpeg4iphone isnt even needed
[14:16] Action: Compn afk
[14:17] <Compn> we should have some instructions for users tho
[14:26] <michaelni> if ffplay alreay works on iphone, what did the guy want ?

[00:25] <tomeo> hi, Im having trouble with verification when using ffmpeg -i. Could someone please take a look here? http://pastie.org/3794826
[01:34] <burek> tomeo, what exactly are you having problem with
[01:34] <burek> your command line is not quite correct
[01:34] <burek> and you got warnings about that
[01:38] <tomeo> burek: Im using a DLNA-server (Serviio) with a plugin that is supposed to grab content from a play service. The command is the one that the plugin uses. But if I change swfVfy=1 to --swfVfy I still get the same error
[01:39] <burek> HandleCtrl: Ignoring SWFVerification request, use --swfVfy!
[01:40] <burek> try just ffmpeg -i rtmp://mtgfs.fplive.net/mtg/flash/sweden/tv8/Hustoppen/Season1/hustoppen_106
[01:40] <burek> also, update your ffmpeg
[01:40] <burek> its old
[01:42] <tomeo> burek still same "Use --swfVfy"
[01:42] <burek> try just ffmpeg -i <url>
[01:42] <burek> that's it
[01:42] <burek> without anything else
[01:42] <tomeo> yes
[01:42] <tomeo> thats what I did
[01:43] <tomeo> it still says use --swfVfy
[01:43] <burek> can you please use pastebin.com, to show your command line and its output?
[01:43] <tomeo> http://pastie.org/3795146
[01:43] <tomeo> there you go
[01:44] <burek> [rtmp @ 0x89bafc0] Server error: Connection failed.
[01:45] <burek> that is what I get
[01:45] <burek> so, probably server is down
[01:45] <burek> update your ffmpeg
[01:45] <tomeo> burek: how do I see what version I have?
[01:45] <burek> first line of output
[01:45] <burek> i think 0.10.x is latest
[01:45] <tomeo> ah okay
[01:45] <tomeo> thanks
[01:46] <burek> but use git
[01:46] <burek> if you want the latest latest
[01:46] <burek> :)
[01:46] <tomeo> Ill just use whatevers in the ports tree
[01:46] <burek> well, ok
[03:47] <darkstarbyte> Does the latest version of ffmpeg have a multithreaded video scaling option?
[03:51] <bucky> I can't install ffmpeg in ubuntu 12.04 because the right version of libav-tools is not available.. is there a ppa available?
[03:52] <relaxed> ubuntu has libav, why not use it?
[03:54] <bucky> apt-get says it can't
[03:54] <bucky> just a sec
[03:55] <relaxed> install libav-tools and use avconv
[03:55] <relaxed> it works the same as ffmpeg
[03:59] <bucky> letsee
[07:12] <edbian> Can I use ffmpeg to convert x264 video to something that my cheapo, weak netbook can play without stuttering?
[07:33] <GreaseMonkey> ok, how do you compile ffmpeg with -fPIC in such a way that vlc laps it up nicely on a 64-bit system
[07:33] <GreaseMonkey> it chunders on libaccess_avio_plugin.a
[07:35] <GreaseMonkey> oh hmm, --enable-pic might do it
[07:42] <GreaseMonkey> ...nope, still hates me
[07:43] <GreaseMonkey> but the code IS a different size
[07:51] <GreaseMonkey> ok i think i might have the wrong pkgconfig stuff
[11:18] <haakon_> Does anyone know when (month/date) map_channels was implemented?
[11:18] <TazzNB> Hey All
[11:19] <TazzNB> I have a cam that does h264 encoding (hardware) and I want to stream that to an rtmp server. Is there any way I can set the "--set-fmt-video" options on the ffmpeg command line ?
[11:25] <ubitux> haakon_: nov 2011
[11:50] <haakon_> ubitux: thanks
[12:27] <Pacefist> There is anybody, who use libav?
[12:43] <burek> TazzNB, what exactly do you want to achieve?
[12:43] <burek> Pacefist, try in #libav
[12:45] <burek> TazzNB, you might be looking for this: ffmpeg -f video4linux2 -vcodec libx264 -i /dev/video0 ...
[12:52] <TazzNB> burek: in a nutshell - I want a h264 stream over the network without taxing the cpu
[12:55] <burek> TazzNB: ffmpeg -f video4linux2 -vcodec libx264 -s 640x480 -r 25 -i /dev/video0 -vcodec copy -f mpegts udp://destination:port
[12:55] <burek> or use rtmp
[12:56] <TazzNB> guess I will have to re-compile ffmpeg :(
[12:56] <TazzNB> Unknown decoder 'libx264'
[12:57] <burek> well
[12:57] <burek> hm, try h264 instead
[12:57] <TazzNB> [video4linux2,v4l2 @ 0x88b84a0] Cannot find a proper format for codec_id 28, pix_fmt -1.
[12:57] <TazzNB> /dev/video1: Input/output error
[12:58] <burek> then recompile :) libx264 is the defacto standard for open source h264
[12:59] <TazzNB> I'll give it a go
[12:59] <TazzNB> thanks
[12:59] <TazzNB> so ffmpeg "should" be able to read the v4l2 device as h264 ?
[12:59] <burek> :)
[12:59] <burek> yes
[13:00] <TazzNB> what I saw was that ffmpeg would "reset" thedevice options back to ymmv
[13:01] <TazzNB> or what ever
[13:02] <burek> if that happens, then use v4l2-ctl to set the fmt
[13:03] <TazzNB> it keeps doing it at startuop
[13:03] <TazzNB> I'll try a new git compile
[13:03] <TazzNB> I took the ubuntu package from ffmpeg.org
[13:03] <TazzNB> built in march
[13:12] <burek> it's a good practice to always use latest git version
[13:12] <burek> because changes happen each day, with bugfixes, etc
[13:53] <RobertNagy> how does this "interlaced scaling" thing work? Quality wise, is it still better to do -vf yadif=1:-1:1:scale= ?
[13:55] <iive> RobertNagy: only if your encoder is supporting interlace mode.
[13:56] <iive> the interlaced scale is needed, because chroma samples on yuv420 (yv12) go into the wrong field when scaling, causing color bleeding into different fields/frames.
[13:59] <iive> but generally, you can use interlace if your video is shown only on crt TV sets.
[14:07] <mega> hi there, I want to use the delogo filter but running ffmpeg -filters does not show such a filter (version 0.7.8).
[14:09] <burek> update your ffmpeg?
[14:10] <iive> there is already 0.10.x already
[14:10] <iive> also, you may check the mp= filtersets (mplayer filters)
[14:14] <mega> oh thanx, will update now :)
[14:31] <steeve> hey folks
[14:31] <steeve> quick question, is it possible get a raw mpegts packet with av_read_frame ?
[14:32] <steeve> aka: when writing the packet data to disk, get the same .ts file ?
[14:33] <burek> steeve, did you try reading the source code for that function to see what it actually does?
[14:34] <steeve> yes
[14:34] <steeve> i tried AVFMT_FLAG_NOFILLIN | AVFMT_FLAG_NOPARSE (if that's what you're asking?)
[14:35] <burek> well, save that buffer to a file and check with hex editor? :)
[14:35] <steeve> haha :)
[14:35] <steeve> i just tried dumping packet.data into a file
[14:35] <steeve> just read a .ts file, and dump packet.data into another file
[14:35] <steeve> and compare the 2
[14:36] <steeve> they don't have the same size (~500mb in, 300mb out)
[14:36] <burek> well, that's expected, because you probably are missing metadata and headers
[14:36] <steeve> indeed
[14:36] <burek> did you read any documentation on mpegts file structure?
[14:37] <steeve> not really (i know)
[14:37] <steeve> well
[14:37] <steeve> if you are talking about pmts, pids, pcrs pts etc...
[14:37] <burek> btw, what do you need it for?
[14:37] <steeve> well, I want to read EPG data from a TS stream
[14:37] <steeve> using libdvbpsi
[14:38] <steeve> i already have code reading video frames from that stream, using libavformat
[14:38] <steeve> libdvbpsi is pretty simple: you just send it raw TS packets
[14:39] <burek> hm, you could ask in #ffmpeg-devel or #libav because there are developers who might be able to help you more
[14:39] <burek> but be patient with them
[14:39] <burek> because they always lack free time :)
[14:39] <steeve> oh, my bad, didn't see there was a ffmpeg-devel !
[14:40] <steeve> i'm sure they do :)
[14:40] <steeve> thanks for the hint !
[14:40] <burek> :)
[14:40] <burek> :)
[14:58] <Durmush> Hi, i'm trying to mux an audio stream that is in a certain file with another video only file. but ffmpeg is reporting an error saying that there is no video decoder with name: copy
[14:58] <Durmush> here is my command line with its output
[14:58] <Durmush> http://pastebin.com/37QP9u2r
[14:59] <burek> hm
[14:59] <StaRetji1> folks, I need some tips on installing ffmpeg on mips
[15:00] <burek> Durmush, try moving -vcodec copy after 2nd -i
[15:00] <StaRetji1> I googled but I'm not sure if I can use debian mips ffmpeg sources on any mips linux platform?
[15:00] <burek> this way ffmpeg thinks you want to decode 2nd -i input with decoder named 'copy'
[15:00] <burek> but since your 2nd file contains both audio and video, you might want to look at the -map option
[15:01] <StaRetji1> more precisely, I need to make it work on dreambox :)
[15:01] <burek> to choose the desired audio/video streams
[15:01] <Durmush> well, this map option always confuses me for some reason
[15:01] <burek> StaRetji1, just download latest git and try to compile it :)
[15:02] <burek> Durmush, well, try at least, and then copy/paste your results so we can help you more with it
[15:02] <ubitux> Durmush: read -map as "-select_input_stream"
[15:02] <StaRetji1> thx burek mate :) I have only 12mb left on device and there is no git installed on it
[15:03] <burek> Durmush, most probably you'll end up with something similar to this: ffmpeg -i video_only.avi -i audio_with_video.mp4 -map 0.0 -map 1.0 -vcodec copy -acodec libmp3lame wr01.avi
[15:04] <StaRetji1> will it be enough to install git and after that ffmpeg?
[15:04] <burek> StaRetji1, then you might read more on cross compiling
[15:04] <burek> and use some other machine for compiling
[15:04] <StaRetji1> got it, thx
[15:05] <burek> :)
[15:05] <Durmush> ubitux: hmm nice, i'll remeber this tip
[15:05] <Durmush> burek: worked
[15:05] <StaRetji1> before that I might try look for compiled ffmpeg
[15:05] <StaRetji1> maybe there are some online
[15:05] <burek> Google is your best friend :)
[15:05] <StaRetji1> I need to make dreambox stream to rtmp from tuner
[15:06] <StaRetji1> yep, thx man
[15:42] <vivienschilis> Hi guys, is it possible with ffmpeg to copy a Closed caption stream when muxing to an MPEG TS file?
[15:43] <vivienschilis> I tried and its becomes converted to dvb_subtitle
[15:45] <silverrocker> how can I get the current position in the file I'm reading with av_read_frame ? and how do I know av_read_frame returned an error and when it reached the EOF
[16:00] <eightfold> howdy. i'd like to convert an mpeg-4 (h.264 + aac) to mpeg-2
[16:02] <eightfold> what is a reasonable bitrate for visual transparency?
[16:14] <Mavrik> eightfold: depends on what your input is
[16:14] <Mavrik> there's no catch-all option sadly
[16:16] <burek> silverrocker, you could read ffmpeg's source code to see how the function is used properly
[16:16] <burek> vivienschilis, can you type ffmpeg -i and use pastebin?
[16:17] <burek> eightfold, you can use -tune, though
[16:17] <burek> type x264 --help
[16:17] <vivienschilis> burek: sure
[16:17] <burek> and then use ffmpeg -i ... -vcodec libx264 -tune ...
[16:21] <vivienschilis> burek: here we go http://pastebin.com/WWBjM497
[16:40] <andrew_> Im having trouble receiving the test RTP stream with ffmpeg again. Im am trying to receive an RTP stream and have ffmpeg open it with an SDP file, then send it to ffserver. It was working on Friday, but today it's not. http://pastebin.com/F0EBFnUE
[16:43] <eightfold> burek: input stream is very high bitrate h.264
[16:43] <eightfold> burek: does tune work for mpeg-2 output?
[16:45] <eightfold> i've done ffmpeg -i input.mp4 -vcodec mpeg2video -b 2500000 -ab 192000 -ar 48000 -ac 2 output.mpg
[16:45] <eightfold> now
[16:45] <eightfold> but are there something like ready made tuned presets for mpeg-2 output?
[16:48] <taqattack> i havea question about --enable-librtmp
[16:49] <taqattack> I want build ffmpeg with custom configuration for windows.
[16:50] <taqattack> I'm cross compiling from ubuntu for windows.
[16:50] <taqattack> So do I need to build rtmpdump/librtmp for ubuntu or windows?
[17:02] <burek> vivienschilis, your input has got subtitle stream that is copied to the output
[17:02] <burek> nothing has been converted, afaics
[17:04] <vivienschilis> burek, indeed, but it is not reconized by Quicktime after conversion for example
[17:04] <burek> yes i see the 2nd cmd output now
[17:04] <burek> it's definitely a bug
[17:05] <burek> is your input private video or something?
[17:05] <burek> can you upload it to incoming ?
[17:06] <burek> eightfold, I really don't know, I don't use mpeg2
[17:06] <burek> you can use -b for bitrate control, and for more options, you should google a little bit
[17:06] <burek> to see if there are specific options to be set
[17:07] <vivienschilis> burek: it's actually a known video by ffmpeg http://ffmpeg.org/trac/ffmpeg/ticket/846
[17:07] <vivienschilis> it's just that it has been updated
[17:07] <vivienschilis> and I think it's like that for a few video
[17:07] <burek> andrew_, you might have more luck with vlc for streaming
[17:08] <vivienschilis> I can try to build more Closed captioned video
[17:08] <burek> ffserver was (at least for me) a very difficult to set up to work properly
[17:08] <vivienschilis> but I didn't know if it's a bug or if Closed caption are not supported
[17:08] <burek> vivienschilis, you could just file a bug report with that pastebin copied to the report
[17:09] <vivienschilis> burek: sure
[17:09] <burek> well ffmpeg recognized it in the input
[17:09] <burek> and 'copy' should just copy everything to the output
[17:09] <burek> so I don't know.. it looks like a bug to me
[17:23] <Mosselmaniac> hi all
[17:25] <Mosselmaniac> I have a question. I have a movie (i can get that movie in _any_ format you would like). and i have an image (jpg). Now i want to create a new movie, with on the left side the image (jpg) and on the right side the movie. I want that to be rendered on a webpage (PHP preferably). Is that even possible and could FFMpeg help me with that? I'm stuck now.
[17:26] <Mavrik> Mosselmaniac, yes, you'll have to reencode the video, pad it with empty space (pad video filter) and the overlay (overlay video filter) the image on that empty space
[17:26] <Mavrik> see http://ffmpeg.org/libavfilter.html#overlay-1
[17:27] <burek> Mosselmaniac, isn't it easier to crate 2 divs, one containing the img and 2nd the movie?
[17:43] <andrew_> burek: Thanks, but the reason that I am trying to use ffserver is that I need to port my solution to Android. From what I have heard, porting that part of the VLC functionality has been more difficult that porting the ffmpeg package. Do you know anything about that?
[17:43] <vivienschilis> thx burek I will do
[17:44] <Mosselmaniac> burek: yes it is easier, but i want it to display properly on iOS and android.
[17:44] <Mosselmaniac> iOS is opening a movie in a standalone video player
[17:45] <andrew_> Wait a second, is ffmpeg itself about to output RTSP?
[17:45] <Mosselmaniac> Mavrik: very cool.
[17:46] <Mosselmaniac> burek: understandd?
[17:47] <Mosselmaniac> Mavrik: what's my way to go now? :)
[18:13] <rra_> trying to convert mpegts video from my dvb-t usb stick using ffmpeg, but get an segmentation fault. http://pastebin.com/KvWi34nB
[18:32] <burek> rra_, try removing -vcodec before -i
[18:32] <burek> and -f if possible
[18:33] <rra_> burek, no difference
[18:33] <burek> Mosselmaniac, just do what Mavrik has suggested to you
[18:33] <burek> look into the section video filters
[18:37] <rra_> to me?
[18:39] <burek> rra_, did you try removing -f
[18:43] <rra_> burek, yes, I did
[18:45] <burek> did you try reading your input with vlc?
[18:45] <burek> just to make sure the input isn't broken
[18:48] <rra_> burek, saved it using cat and the file isn't broken.
[18:49] <burek> no
[18:50] <burek> open it live with vlc
[18:50] <burek> and see if it throws any erros
[18:50] <burek> errors
[18:52] <rra_> can't do, that's a server machine that doesn't have vlc
[18:52] <burek> well, you can always submit a bug report then :/
[18:52] <rra_> I saved the dvb-t video with cat to file, and it worked on my windows machine.
[18:52] <rra_> ah
[18:52] <rra_> where to?
[18:53] <rra_> are there any help forums where you don't submit bugs, but just try solving problems?
[18:53] <burek> you can try google
[18:53] <burek> or ffmpeg trac
[18:55] <rra_> .. used this mirch channel and google for a month trying to solve a problem, when ffmpeg crashed after several sec when decoding mpegts stream, but couldn't find a solution to that.
[18:56] <races> Hi everyone, I have a probably easy question for you guys, I have around 20 mp4 files that i want to concatenate, make it play a higher speed and fit a song to the file! I am pretty sure this is possible but I dont know where to to start.. Any help?
[18:59] <burek> rra_, the quickest way is to submit a bug report
[18:59] <burek> and bookmark it
[19:00] <burek> also, if possible, provide a sample file (using cat) to the ffmpeg's ftp server (incoming)
[19:00] <burek> http://ffmpeg.org/bugreports.html
[19:01] <burek> races, you are probably not looking for ffmpeg, but for a video editor
[19:01] <rra_> Burek, a problem is that it's asked to use the git version as well
[19:01] <burek> rra_, that's mandatory
[19:02] <burek> noone's gonna look into some bugs in an old version and waste time
[19:02] <burek> because it's probably fixed so far
[19:02] <races> Hi Burek, thanks... I was told that with ffmpeg I can do all this from the command line easily... with the movie editor I may lose quality during the edition.
[19:02] <rra_> burek, well had one of the bugs on a git version as well :)
[19:03] <burek> races, ffmpeg will still need to re-encode your video for what you want
[19:03] <rra_> burek, will try to submit the report
[19:03] <burek> so, either way you'll loose some quality
[19:03] <races> so if I use -sameq or same-quant, I will still lose quality?
[19:04] <burek> of course
[19:04] <burek> that's just a hint to the encoder that you would like the same quality
[19:04] <burek> but the video will still be reencoded
[19:04] <burek> and depending on the video itself
[19:04] <burek> it might or might not loose quality
[19:05] <races> ups, sorry... i am very new with this, either way it is not totally important to keep the same quality, I just want it to look good. I tried to do it in windows with the movie editor and when I increased the speed, the video looked really bad, almost as a slideshow... which video editor can you recommend me to do this in Linux?
[19:07] <burek> well, I'm not sure, really.. you could check doom9 forum
[19:07] <burek> however, if you just want to speed up video
[19:07] <burek> you can use video filters and setPTS
[19:07] <burek> but for concatenation, I'm afraid you'll have to use video editor
[19:08] <races> what about "cat" command? would this work?
[19:08] <burek> only with mpeg
[19:09] <burek> ffmpeg -i input.avi -vf "setpts=0.5*PTS" output.avi
[19:09] <burek> try that
[19:10] <races> awesome burek.... thank you very much... Is there anyway I can convert all the files in the same folder automatically, or do I have to repeat the same operation for every file?
[19:11] <burek> you can write a batch script
[19:11] <burek> with for loop
[19:11] <races> I will do that... thanks
[19:11] <races> thank you very much burek...
[19:12] <burek> :)
[19:32] <TazzNB> burek: with all the beer you will be very drunk soon :)
[19:34] <burek> I practice regularly :))
[19:35] <TazzNB> i noticed :)
[19:35] <TazzNB> I am compiling ffmpeg now to see if I can get that h264 webcam to work
[19:36] <burek> ok :)
[19:37] <TazzNB> while it compiles, since I don't want to "re-encode" the stream to h264, will the command that you gave me just copy it over. In other words, does ffmpeg go "Oh look, the output encoding is the same, so I will just put the frame into the udp stream" ?
[19:38] <burek> :)
[19:38] <burek> -vcodec copy will just copy bytes
[19:38] <burek> from input to output
[19:38] <burek> so it will just 'remux' so to say
[19:39] <TazzNB> so I will open it as libx264 (or h264) and make the target -vcodec copy
[19:40] <burek> ffmpeg -f video4linux2 -vcodec libx264 -i /dev/video0 -vcodec copy -f mp4 out.mp4
[19:41] <TazzNB> yip - that is what I had in mind :)
[19:41] <TazzNB> thx
[19:41] <burek> :)
[19:46] <TazzNB> ls
[19:46] <TazzNB> whoops :)
[19:47] <TazzNB> hhhmmm odd - same error
[19:49] <burek> can you please use pastebin.com, to show your command line and its output?
[19:49] <TazzNB> sure
[19:50] <TazzNB> http://pastebin.com/XX1GfrWK
[19:51] <TazzNB> http://pastebin.com/ZyjZQUEF <-- that is with h264 as the vcodec
[19:53] <TazzNB> http://pastebin.com/tpVwcMPM <-- that is the v4l2 output and setting it to use h264
[19:53] <TazzNB> at least - so I hope, but it does show a change
[19:54] <burek> oh
[19:54] <burek> ffmpeg -f video4linux2 -vcodec h264 -i /dev/video0 -vcodec copy -f mp4 out.mp4
[19:55] <TazzNB> that was the second paste bin
[19:55] <burek> wait
[19:58] <burek> ffmpeg -f video4linux2 -pix_fmt yuv422p -vcodec h264 -i /dev/video0 -vcodec copy -f mp4 out.mp4
[19:58] <burek> try that
[19:59] <TazzNB> same error, except it is now "pix_fmt 4"
[20:00] <burek> ffmpeg -f video4linux2 -pix_fmt vdpau_h264 -vcodec h264 -i /dev/video0 -vcodec copy -f mp4 out.mp4
[20:01] <TazzNB> nope :(
[20:01] <TazzNB> I have to run - I will reconnect from work (I can remote this machine)
[20:01] <TazzNB> thx for the help so far
[20:02] <burek> ok o/
[21:06] <Papierkorb> Hello. I want to use libavcodec and friends in my current project, but I'm having a hard time finding working examples. All I found until now are outdated ones - and the api-example.c one, which only handles video streams, but no demuxing. I'd be happy with a source on how to render some frames from a mkv file and save them as image (or somehow show them).
[21:27] <andrew_> ls -l
[21:33] <tyho> So i am trying to take a screenshot with this: ffmpeg -ss 00:10:00 -vframes 1 -i Filename.avi/mkv -y -f image2 screenshot2.png but I get endless lines of this: frame= 0 fps= 0 q=0.0 size= -0kB time=10000000000.00 bitrate= -0.0kbit
[21:47] <pasteeater> tyho: try moving -vframes 1 as an output option
[22:11] <rr> ffmpeg smetimes converts my dvb-t stream without problems, but most of the time it crashes. What should I look for? Could it be just because the ffmpeg gets at the newest frame of stream and thinks that it's the end of the file?
[22:13] <pasteeater> rr: can you show an example of the crash?
[22:13] <pasteeater> use a pastebin site to show your ffmpeg command and the complete console output
[22:17] <rr> pasteeater, just a second, have to reboot the machine.
[22:19] <rr> pasteeater, wierd, can't re-create the error
[22:25] Action: pasteeater makes dumb windows reboot joke
[22:40] <tyho> pasteeater, does not fix
[22:49] <pasteeater> tyho: use a pastebin site to show your ffmpeg command and the complete console output
[23:08] <elinenbe> 'ello mates!
[23:08] <elinenbe> Anyone around? I've got a question.
[23:09] <elinenbe> I'm trying to do silence detection via a filter. I can do it without problem on a static file, but I can't figure out how to pipe to a filter.
[23:09] <elinenbe> Here's what I've got...
[23:10] <elinenbe> ffmpeg -y -f lavfi -i amovie=elvisradio.flv,silencedetect=n=-23dB:d=1 -f null -
[23:10] <elinenbe> however, ultimately I'd like to do it like
[23:10] <elinenbe> rtmpdmp .... blah blah blah | ffmpeg -y -f lavfi -i amovie=pipe:0,silencedetect=n=-23dB:d=1 -f null -
[23:11] <elinenbe> but that doesn't work.
[23:11] <elinenbe> Is there anyway to pipe to a filter?
[23:22] <tyho> pasteeater, http://pastebin.com/AT1KePnP
[23:26] <pasteeater> tyho: that's a really old ffmpeg version. what is your distro?
[23:27] <tyho> idk, it is not me who manages the server
[23:29] <pasteeater> probably debian squeeze.
[23:29] <tyho> 1 sec, ill ask
[23:30] <tyho> pasteeater, linux, debian stable
[23:30] <tyho> so yeh
[23:30] <pasteeater> you can probably compile a new ffmpeg and not install it, but still use it
[23:30] <pasteeater> or just replace the ass old one with a recent compiled ffmpeg
[23:31] <pasteeater> or try moving -ss as an output option
[23:31] <pasteeater> or try some other image format instead of png
[23:31] <pasteeater> http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=6963607&postcount=360
[23:32] <pasteeater> skip the libsdl1.2-dev libx11-dev libxext-dev libxfixes-dev dependencies as i'm guessing you're using a headless server
[23:34] <pasteeater> if you're only using ffmpeg to get screenshots, then you can simplify that guide
[23:35] <pasteeater> but i don't know your use case
[23:39] <tyho> pasteeater, ill try and work my way through it
[23:42] <rr> If you have time, please take a look at my ticket http://ffmpeg.org/trac/ffmpeg/ticket/1224#comment:1

[04:58] <Compn> btw, a pox on anyone who embeds vlc underneath flash player. you're just asking for mem leaks and trouble doing that

[00:09] <perrth> Mavrik_: is there alternative?
[00:11] <CarterA> Has anyone here ever dealt with a .sdr2 file? It supposedly contains H.264 data, but I can't find a way to actually use the data. sdr2 files are the output format of this little thing: http://www.supercircuits.com/Digital-Video-Recorders/Micro-DVRs/MDVR14-4
[00:16] <CarterA> The header of the file decodes as "SRA ", if that means anything.
[00:41] <dissidentat> i compiled an older version of ffmpeg (0.5.6) with --enable-libmp3lame but ffmpeg -format does not show libmp3lame
[00:41] <dissidentat> any where I should look to figure out why?
[00:41] <burek> try ffmpeg -formats
[00:41] <dissidentat> i mean formats sorry
[00:41] <dissidentat> in formats it does not display it
[00:42] <burek> did you compile libmp3lame?
[00:42] <dissidentat> yup i have libmp3lame0 and libmp3lame-dev installed
[00:42] <dissidentat> from debian squeeze
[00:42] <burek> try ldconfig
[00:42] <burek> and then try configure ffmpeg again

[00:43] <burek> and copy/paste results to pastebin.com
[00:44] <burek> dissidentat, check config.log
[00:44] <burek> search for lmp3lame
[00:44] <burek> and see what the errors are
[00:45] <CarterA> Not big enough to warrant the pastebin
[00:45] <CarterA> n
[00:45] <CarterA> Just this: ak001045.sdr2: Unknown format
[00:45] <dissidentat> in config.err (there doesn't appear to be a config.log) it does not show anything out of the ordinary for libmp3lame
[00:45] <burek> also make sure that libmp3lame is supported in that version of ffmpeg (is there any notice like "unknown option: --enable-libmp3lame")
[00:45] <burek> CarterA, we need the ffmpeg output
[00:46] <burek> in order to be able to helpo
[00:46] <burek> -o
[00:46] <CarterA> That is the ffmpeg output.
[00:46] <burek> can you please use pastebin.com, to show your command line and its output?

[00:49] <burek> dissidentat, could you copy/paste your config.log (err) to pastebin

[00:49] <dissidentat> sure thing

[00:53] <burek> did you try ffmpeg -codecs
[00:53] <burek> because in your first paste, there is an mp3 format
[00:53] <burek> with DE flags
[00:53] <dissidentat> yeah but i need libmp3lame to show up
[00:54] <burek> now just check ffmpeg -codecs
[00:54] <burek> to see if there is libmp3 there
[00:54] <dissidentat> ffmpeg: unrecognized option '-codecs'
[00:54] <burek> well try it

[00:54] <dissidentat> hold on
[00:57] <dissidentat> Unknown encoder 'libmp3lame'
[00:59] <burek> btw, do you have any specific needs for 0.5.6
[00:59] <dissidentat> yes
[01:07] <dissidentat> uninstalled libmp3lame libraries/headers
[01:07] <dissidentat> and when configuring i get
[01:07] <dissidentat> ERROR: libmp3lame not found
[01:07] <dissidentat> so i am pretty sure it is properly configuring/compiling it
[01:07] <dissidentat> no errors throughout that process
[01:07] <sacarasc> Check the config.log.
[01:07] <dissidentat> i have
[01:08] <dissidentat> it's right here if you wanna check it out
[01:08] <dissidentat> http://pastebin.com/BQretVgq
[01:08] <burek> find in your config.log "ERROR: libmp3lame not found"
[01:08] <dissidentat> well, after I uninstalled libmp3lame it caused that error
[01:08] <dissidentat> but if i install it again and compile it won't error, everything will end up fine
[01:08] <dissidentat> ffmpeg just won't show it or let me use it
[01:09] <burek> well, it might be a bug in that version, which has been fixed
[01:09] <burek> so I don't know
[01:09] <burek> why do you need 0.5.6
[01:09] <dissidentat> i have the same version on another server (albeit a different processor)
[01:09] <dissidentat> and it's fine on the other server
[01:09] <dissidentat> virtually the same packages and everything

[05:30] <obstinate> Great
[05:33] <obstinate> for all those who installed ffmpeg i have a stupid question..
[05:33] <obstinate> Does installation give you a folder with the include files in a place
[05:33] <obstinate> ?
[05:33] <obstinate> I want to use ffmpeg with python
[05:34] <obstinate> and i found Pyffmpeg serve my purpose
[05:34] <obstinate> but I am stuck with installing it.. Has anyone tried it before ?
[06:07] <obstinate> Hi does anyone know if I can extract a frame from a video with frame number as input using ffmpeg ?!
[16:14] <timing> Hi all! I want to move from this: "/usr/bin/lame --decode $FILE - | /usr/bin/oggenc -o $OUTFILE -" to ffmpeg as decoder. Is this possible?
[17:04] <timing> got it, thanks for listening :-)
[20:47] <taqattack> Anyone know how to compile librtmp sources to i can do --enable-librtmp option?
[20:48] <burek> what about ./configure, make, make install?
[20:51] <taqattack> I tried to enable it but I get error
[20:53] <burek> can you please use pastebin.com, to show your command line and its output?
[20:53] <taqattack> one sec
[20:55] <taqattack> http://pastebin.com/rHBF7VvN - Console output
[20:55] <taqattack> http://pastebin.com/iJjXk05y - config.log
[20:57] <burek> type ldconfig and try again
[20:58] <taqattack> i still get same error
[20:58] <taqattack> I think it requires me to compile librtmp to enable that option
[20:58] <taqattack> Because I had to compile external libraries for x264 and lamemp3
[21:02] <Kingsy> burek: you around?
[21:02] <burek> taqattack, yes, you need to compile librtmp or install librtmp-dev
[21:02] <burek> Kingsy, yes
[21:04] <Kingsy> burek: do you have a log by any chance of our conversation we had last week? I know thats a long shot but basically.. we were discussing libraries for encoding audio/video on ffmpeg and ever since then my computer has not detected any sound devices on boot
[21:04] <Kingsy> and my condenser mic doesnt detect/work at all
[21:04] <Kingsy> so I am trying to back track
[21:04] <burek> Kingsy, http://ffmpeg.gusari.org/irclogs/
[21:05] <burek> what does "aplay -r" show?
[21:08] <taqattack> burek: I will take a look into it. Thanks.
[21:08] <burek> :)
[21:08] <Kingsy> burek: it says aplay requires an additional argument
[21:08] <burek> aplay -r
[21:08] <burek> no
[21:08] <burek> wait
[21:09] <burek> arecord -r
[21:09] <burek> arecord -l
[21:09] <burek> omg
[21:09] <cbsrobot> burek: btw whats you favorite beer ?
[21:09] <burek> -l (small L)
[21:09] <burek> cbsrobot, the cold one! :D
[21:10] <cbsrobot> of course - but any special brand ?
[21:10] <burek> well, there is a saying in our country, something like: for a good pig, there is no bad food :)
[21:10] <burek> meaning, I don't prefer any specific kind
[21:10] <burek> any cold beer is a good beer :)
[21:11] <cbsrobot> burek: hehe - ok
