Adding ffmpeg x265 support to MacPorts

I'd like to submit a patch to MacPorts adding in support for x265 to ffmpeg. There are several x265 encoders. Someone point me to a step-by-step guide to building the best (or correct) x265 CLI + library to support adding --enable-libx265 to MacPorts. Thanks.
