XBMC would crash while generating thumbnails for videos which are smaller then the configured thumbnail size. If you want to reproduce this with XBMC, you need to compile it with "--enable-external-libraries" since the internal copy is very old and does not expose this bug. e66149e714006d099d1ebfcca3f22ca74fc7dcf4 - I suspect it was broken before that commit, but somehow the detection choose another path for my CPU before that point. At the moment, there is no error message, and the drawtext filter doesn't get enabled. The documentation of the drawtext filter does mention then libfreetype is needed - but it would be much more helpful if the configure script would do this check. SMV file is used in portable media players with SigmaTel chip. SMV files start with WAV header, so it plays as if was an wav file, without video.
