I first encountered this problem in XBMC but FFPlay experiences the same behaviour. I've tested it with several Dutch streams, which all show the problem. It works fine when I use an older version of XBMC which uses libmms so it seems to be a problem FFmpeg's implementation. I am seeing the message below while decoding. The camera sends out slightly larger height frames than 1080 (1084). And I repeatedly get these messages about every second: Last message repeated 1 times [h264_vdpau @ 0x7f210c46df30]insane cropping not completely supported, this could look slightly wrong ... [h264_vdpau @ 0x7f210c46df30]no frame! I believe this happens during SPS/PPS parsing. I captured some raw H.264 bitstream in a file and uploaded at http://www.datafilehost.com/download-f537c855.html. Its interesting that when this video stream is wrapped within RTMP packets and submitted to flash, flash player plays it fine - with no extra 4 bytes at the top and no signs of hiccups. It will then play all audio that was buffered in the meantime. We traced this down to enc->frame_size being set to zero in get_audio_frame_size() in libavformat/utils.c when trying to parse the stream. If we force frame_size to some value larger than 1, the stream will play. Probably related is that the bitrate for Nellymoser streams is reported as zero as well. Yet it is easy to know the bitrate for this codec once the sampling rate is known: it is twice the sampling rate. Find a video that contains more than one audio track 2. ffmpeg -i _video.mkv -timestamp now -vcodec libx264 -acodec libfaac -alang eng video.m4v -acodec libfaac -alang ger -newaudio 3. open -a QuickTime video.m4v What is the expected result? To be able to select the audio track and to hear only one track at once. What happens instead? No audio tracks selectable. All languages/tracks are mixed into one audio track. Possible workaround: Open the file with VLC. Any additional information: Same issue with the latest libav version (although the parameters are a bit different). Also iTunes has the same issue und I'm sure an iOS device will have it too. But it seems to be a known issue since a long time: https://www.lscube.org/issue2534 I applied this patch but this only enables Quicktime to select an audio track - if no track is selected (default): all tracks are played all together.
