While re-using the same build method as for 4.4.x, it appears that 5.1.2 fails to build only for a subset of archs. More precisely it fails when building for i686 and x86_64 (all builds are cross-compiled from a x86_64 host using Synology provided toolchain and our spksrc framework). Note that it does build properly on armv5-7-8 and ppc. So the image appears skewed. By specifying each of the available pixel_formats I am able to get different amounts of skew, or in the case of nv12, also some fun random green artifacts thrown in. 0rgb bgr0 gives almost visible pictures, these seem to be off by 1 pixel in each row, giving a 2:1 skew. Using .avi instead of .mov gives essentially the same picture only with worse quality due to chosen compression. So it doesn't seem like the output format is the problem. rkern in #ffmpeg reported that it works for them at resolutions 1280x720, 960x540, 1024x576 but I can't check this since I can't change the rez on my macbook air. Attaching the .mov file and a raw YUV frame. Minimal code that fails for me (can be reproduced in ffplay): auto formatContext = avformat_alloc_context(); avformat_open_input(&formatContext, "/dev/video0", nullptr, nullptr); avformat_find_stream_info(formatContext, nullptr); // < stuck here (error code checking omitted for clarity). My video device is a virtual V4L2 device (Droidcam which allows to get a camera feed from an Android tablet or phone to the desktop over the network). The issue can be tested with the droidcam ArchLinux AUR package. What seems to happen is just that there is no data flowing out of /dev/video0 at all and I guess avformat_find_stream_info is trying to probe some bytes of the stream without a timeout ? What kind of checks could I add in my client app to make sure that things aren't going to get stuck, sort of running a probe in a separate process and adding a watchdog ?
