#11363: [Android] MediaCodec decoders/encoders do not work on Pixel 8 Pro (No output buffer available) -------------------------------------+------------------------------------- Reporter: bubbleguuum | Type: defect Status: new | Priority: normal Component: avcodec | Version: git- | master Keywords: | Blocked By: Blocking: | Reproduced by developer: 0 Analyzed by developer: 0 | -------------------------------------+------------------------------------- I cannot get MediaCodec hardware encoders/decoders to work on my Pixel 8 Pro (Android 15), while it works perfectly on my Pixel 4a (Android 13) At the end of this report is the logs of a failure to decode a simple mp4 file with h264_mediacodec, using a custom build of ffmpeg for Android from the snapshot from Dec 19th. It fails and get stuck on "No output buffer available, try again later", repeated indefinitely. Speaking of which, exiting with the 'q' key does not work, I have to force kill it with 3 CTRL-C. The h264 hardware encoder does not work as well, stuck in the same way. Actually I was doing screen recording with obs-studio and got this bug since at least ffmpeg 7.0.1. There was a patch (https://patchwork.ffmpeg.org/project/ffmpeg/patch/20240321170219.1487-1-Pri…) fixed this for 7.0.x but it no longer applies to 7.1. I'm using an AMD Radeon RX 6650 XT display card and so my only options are HEVC and AVC. Because the problem is: sometimes the conversion is deffected the red is much more and the picture is dark. If possible please add some from this list. But this functionality is hampered by being X11 only due to using x11grab and probably more technical parts I'm not aware of. I am a user, not a developer, I'm sure I missed technical details, eitherway. This is the ideal moment for adding support for screen recording using the Linux Wayland stack (Pipewire, XDG Portals) as most Linux developers are desperate to complete the migration from X11 to Wayland, going as far as removing X11 from Fedora KDE in the next version. They feel it's ready for widespread use and time for porting is running out before bug trackers get flooded with bug reports.
