Shown below is the ffmpeg version I'm running. I have an AMD x86_64. Should I use the --tune option, and would the syntax be --tune=x86_64, or some other syntax. What might that be, please? 2) When I have run ./configure with --enable-shared the Make bombs. Should I be adding some other options or switches (meaning..is it something I'm doing wrong?) and can you tell me what it is I need to do or is ffmpeg just not ready for --enable-shared with x86_64? 3gp vs 3g2 to flv

All: I am able to convert 3gp files to flv format just fine. However I get a error when I try to convert a 3g2 to flv. Error: Could not find video grab device - need help

Hi all, 1st of all, im Linux noob. Im running Fedora Core 3. I try to put my camera onthe web by using ffserver and ffmpeg. I can see the aoutput using xawtv, so my camera was OK. As root, i run ffserver....and ffserver started. But when i run.... ... Problems with Linux and x264

All right, I've been battling this beast for about a week now and I seem to be stuck. In a nutshell what I want to do is encode mpegs into QT7 compatible mp4s with the h264 codec on a Linux machine. I am already able to do this on a Windows machine without difficulty so I know it can be done but for a variety of reasons I need to move the process to a Linux system. Unfortunately I tried running FFMPeg under Wine but it didn't seem to care much for that producing a segment fault no matter what I tried to do. There also appeared to be some difficulty passing command line options through Wine but honestly, since I can't get FFMpeg to work under Wine that isn't much of an issue. So instead what I did was download the latest CVS of FFMPeg and x264. When I first compiled x264 I found that when I attempted to encode an MP4 with it the output was a pure white screen. This turned out to be because I had not yet compiled Gpac and set certain flags correctly for the make configuration of x264 (--extra-cflags="=-../gpac/include" --extra-ldflags="-L../gpac/bin/gcc"). With that out of the way I am now able to encode a raw YUV file with x264 and get a fully compatible MP4. Unfortunately the files that I am working with are mpegs and not raw yuv. Since they can be two hours long it really isn't practical to dump them into yuv, encode that through x264 and then mux the output together with a separate audio track since the yuv file would be ginormous. Besides, FFMpeg should be able to handle it as a single process anyway. Unfortunately when I try to use FFMpeg I get the exact same white screen that I got with x264 when it was missing the gpac libraries. I've tried adding --extra-cflags="=-../gpac/include" and --extra-ldflags="-L../gpac/bin/gcc" when I do the configuration for FFMpeg. I've tried locating all the critical files for gpac and copying them to both /usr/lib and /usr/local/lib (though it is possible that I have not moved the correct file since there are quite a few files in those directories and I am reluctant to dump their entire contents) and still I get the same white output. No errors in compile or execution, just white output in the video. So what I am wondering is if anyone else has had this problem or if anyone has a good guess as to how to fix it. Like I said, I've been beating my head against this for about a week now and I'm pretty much out of ideas, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Streaming MPEG-1 in browser

Do * really need streaming software on the server side to have MPEGs start playing on a WindowsXP+IE+WMP combo as soon as download begins instead of waiting for the end of download? Re-encoding at different quality

We are setting up a system where TV will be grabbed and encoded (MPEG-1, lavc+lavf+home code) at 2 bitrates: 600 and 1200 kbits video. If one of the sides fails, the other will have to used as backup; this leads to 2 questions: (1) Is there a way (maybe involving patches or hacks to lavc) to re-encode from 1200 to 600 using significantly less CPU than full decode and encode? (2) When re-encoding from 600 to 1200, how do I ensure the nominal bitrate is maintained? (I have to use VBR for reasons too long to explain). audio encoding from url?

Hi all, mencoder and mplayer can take their input from a url, rather than a local file. I would like to be able to encode (actually just cut) .wav audio files accessed via a url. This is not possible with mencoder (-novideo is just there to tease). So far as I can see, ffmpeg does not have this functionality either, right? Does anyone know of any other linux software that can do this? Otherwise I may be reduced to wget --output-document=- myurl | ffmpeg -ss <> -t<> out.wav which is not terribly efficient for getting chunks from near the end of large files. regards, Colin

FFmpeg on Linux-Apache

Hello, I am trying to get ffmpeg to work on my Apache-server (which I know practically nothing about). I'm trying to get ffmpeg to extract a frame, and save it as a jpeg. Converting video/audio with ffmpeg works, but the extraction of the frame just won't. My guess is that I need the latest CVS, but that is the problem. I don't know how to get the cvs over the existing ffmpeg. I've tried to find information on how to do it, but I don't understand what I need to do. Can someone please please please help me do/walk me through it. I've been trying for days now and I've no more hair to pull. Best regards, Gavin

Encoding live TV

Hi All, It is several weeks that I try to encode a live TV feed (from a V4L2 capture device) to an MPEG2 file using the avformat library without success. I always get 'buffer underrun' errors and core dumps from glibc due to a double free or corruption (caused by avformat/avcodec since the code without the compression calls works perfectly). The resulting file, when playable, is always out of sync, stuttering and all weird things that could happen to a video file. Since it is a live source I can't feed more data than what I receive. I know that the video and audio timings may not be exactly to the microsecond, but why avformat is so concerned about this buffer ? Is there a way to disable this damned buffer ? I searched for some tutorials, example or even for a spell to cast in order to get this thing working, but without success. I found thousands of site with the avformat/avcodec source code nicely formatted but without any useful information. It seems that avformat users are more concerned about playing a file rather than creating one (should I assume that avformat is useful for playing only ?). I just updated the ffmpeg library: bad move, now the frame rate fields are missing, how do I set the frame rate ? Geez, these guys must hate documentation !! The library version should be: 0.4.9-0.lvn.0.18.20050801.4 on a FC4 X86_64. Please can someone help me ? Thanks
