MOV to FLV no audio
by griff＠quik.com 18 Apr '05

Hello: When trying to use ffmpeg to convert a ".mov" file to a ".flv" file, I get no audio on the converted file. I used the Unix command: ffmpeg -i pict005.mov pict005.flv This command produced the following output: ffmpeg version 0.4.9-pre1, build 4752, Copyright (c) 2000-2004 Fabrice Bellard configuration: built on Apr 13 2005 14:37:48, gcc: 3.3.3 20040412 (Red Hat Linux 3.3.3-7) Input #0, mov,mp4,m4a,3gp,3g2, from 'pict005.mov': Duration: 00:01:01.8, start: 0.000000, bitrate: 269 kb/s Stream #0.0: Video: mjpeg, 320x240, 24.00 fps Stream #0.1: Audio: pcm_u8, 7812 Hz, mono, 62 kb/s Output #0, flv, to 'pitc005.flv': Stream #0.0: Video: flv, 320x240, 24.00 fps, q=2-31, 200 kb/s Stream mapping: Stream #0.0 -> #0.0 Press [q] to stop encoding frame= 114 q=0.0 Lsize= 230kB time=4.8 bitrate= 396.4kbits/s video:228kB audio:0kB global headers:0kB muxing overhead 0.786693% I've also tried specifying "-acodec pcm_u8" to ffmpeg, and I've tried first converting to a ".avi" file. The ".avi" file has an audio channel, but it's white noise. The ".mov" file I used is available at http://x27.quik.com/~hamlin/pict005.mov. I can view and hear this file using 'mplayer'. Any suggestions on this problem would be greatly appreciated. Griff

Decoding h.264 with lost packets
by erik-list＠kladd.net 18 Apr '05

18 Apr '05

Hi I am using the h.264 reference software to encode some CIF clips, and I'm trying stream it and play it back with VLC. If I'm using one slice per picture, everything works OK, but since so many RTP packets depend on each other, a small packet loss rate leads to big distortions. I am now trying to use 4 slices per frame to create more independent RTP packets, but if one of the slices get lost it leads to even greater distortions, and it ends with a "Assertion `pic->data[0]' failed." error. I'm wondering if it is even possible for ffmpeg do decode h.264 in a reasonable way if e.g slice 1,2 and 4 is recieved, but slice 3 is lost? Regards Erik Hellerud

3gp file to 3gp
by mathieu＠amoureux.com 18 Apr '05

Hi everyone I use ffmpeg to re encode 3gp movies files (from a mobile phone) When I encode with sound I obtain a video files with audio and video not playing at the same speed. The sound is at the right speed , but video is faster ? SO I think that it is a frame rate pbm. But I tried encoding it without sound and I get the right speed for the video stream. So why I obtain a file without audio video sync when I keep sound ? What does " removing common factors from framerate" means ? Visual Studio and Linking
by chris.eborn＠gmail.com 18 Apr '05

18 Apr '05

I started writing a video playback app. ages ago and have been using (the horrid) wmv libraries to decode the video files. I would prefer to use libavformat/libavcodec, but I cannot get them to link against my code in Visual Studio. I generated the .lib files as suggested in the ffmpeg docs. and my code compiled fine, but when it tries to link some functions (udivdi3, divdi3, alloca) are missing. Does anybody know where I can find any documents or examples of linking the ffmpeg libraries in a Visual studio .net environment? I have just spent a whole morning searching the web for soultions and cannot find the answer. Apologies, but I can't post the exact messages at the moment as I am at work and this project is at home. Many thanks, Chris

issues with converting files, can\'t do anything, always says unknown video codec
by dtra＠faceyoursfears.com 18 Apr '05

18 Apr '05

hi everyone i hope you guys can help me out here, cos i am working to a deadline to get this thing done but i am having issues getting ffmpeg to convert files properly if you can see the information on this link, you can see what i have tried http://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1278890#1278890, in case i forget something here basically i installed ffmpeg from april 15 i think just did configure --enable-gpl this is what i can do ffmpeg -i src.mov -b 100 out.mpg - can watch ffmpeg -i src.mov -b 100 out.wmv - can't watch ffmpeg -i src.mov -b 100 out.mp4 - this is the output ------------->[root at devserver videos]# ffmpeg -i src.mov -b 100 out.mp4 ------------->ffmpeg version 0.4.9-pre1, build 4752, Copyright (c) 2000-2004 Fabrice Bellard -------------> configuration: --enable-gpl -------------> built on Apr 16 2005 12:33:26, gcc: 3.2.2 20030222 (Red Hat Linux 3.2.2-5) ------------->Input #0, mov,mp4,m4a,3gp,3g2, from 'src.mov': -------------> Duration: 00:00:14.9, start: 0.000000, bitrate: 1608 kb/s -------------> Stream #0.0: Video: cinepak, 640x220, 25.00 fps -------------> Stream #0.1: Audio: pcm_u8, 22050 Hz, mono, 176 kb/s ------------->Output #0, mp4, to 'out.mp4': -------------> Stream #0.0: Video: mpeg4, 640x220, 25.00 fps, q=2-31, 100 kb/s -------------> Stream #0.1: Audio: 0x0000, 22050 Hz, mono, 64 kb/s ------------->Stream mapping: -------------> Stream #0.0 -> #0.0 -------------> Stream #0.1 -> #0.1 ------------->Unsupported codec for output stream #0.1 basically whenever i run the simple command like that it says that error message if i try to add in -f mp4 or -vcodec mp4 (or any other codec or format) it will say unknown video codec mp4 or Unsupported codec for output stream #0.1 i've checked -formats, and mp4 has an E before it, wmv1 and wmv2 have devsd before it, wmv3 has dv what we are trying to do is take an uploaded video in any format and convert it to one wmv, and one mp4 file, so we have two files all the flags will be hardcoded, eg. bitrate, codec if anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated thanks dave ps. less important but if anyone could help out, would also be great if can convert to a small thumbnail eg. jpeg, or gif, or png, i basically get the same errors, tried -img jpeg but says unknown image format or something i assume that is prolly the same problem as the above and with what i said before, needing two output formats is it possible to encode them with one command, or would there need to be two separate commands? thanks again

Extracting jpeg frames
by darren＠dcook.org 17 Apr '05

17 Apr '05

Hi, I'd like to make a "thumbnail" of my video files by making a small jpeg of the frame at intervals of every 12 seconds. Is ffmpeg able to do this? Does anyone have any example commandlines, or perhaps a different tool to suggest? (see below: I tried mplayer and transcode but either am not using them correctly or hit bugs). Thanks, Darren P.S. Some attempts: ffmpeg -i my.avi -f singlejpeg -img jpeg -y test.jpg --> Makes a huge (11MB before I stopped it) jpeg of what seems to just be the first frame of the movie. (I also tried f%03d.jpg as the filename but got a single jpeg called "f%03d.jpg" :-). mplayer -sstep 12 -vo jpeg -vo scale=160:110 -nojoystick -nosound my.avi Works, except it keeps repeating the last frame until manually stopped. Adding -frames gave it a way to stop but I need to know movie length in advance. transcode -i my.avi -y jpg -F 90 -Z 120x80 --frame_interval=300 -o f --> All jpegs produced are green rectangles (size is correct) --> It never stops; input file is only 3666 frames but it went on forever (at least 10 times that amount).
