Hi, FFmpeg page (and MPlayer page) speak about "Multimedia is a patent minefield". Discussing MPEG standards with some colleagues, I was thinking about MPEG video coding examples of patent infringement. Are patent problems there in MPEG-1,2,4 implementations? Where? ffmpeg, choppy video

Hi all, i'm using ffmpeg 0.6.4 (Linux) to stream a live feed over my intranet, since i get better signal 100 meters away from my "living-house", but i've got a choppy video-problem: I've tried most codecs, bitrates and settings but when i send video with absolutely no sound att all, video is fine and dandy, but when ANY sound is muxed in, video get's choppy. Choppy video and horrible audio sync problems...

Using either ffmpeg cvs snapshot or PLF's ffmpeg-0.4.9-0.pre1.0.101.2plf, ffmpeg seems to have some serious issues. ./ffmpeg -target vcd -ad /dev/dsp -vd /dev/video0 output.mpg results in seriously choppy video, and sound sync that starts off about a half-second out of sync and gradually gets worse. Video seems to play at about 1.5 times the actual speed. I've got a AthlonXP 2600+ with a half-gig of DDR400 memory, so it's not likely to be a performance problem with my system, I can't imagine. "cannot find -lmp3lame"

I'm trying to do an FFMPEG build on Windows (XP) according to the instructions at http://soenkerohde.com/tutorials/ffmpeg, but I'm getting stuck with this error on the link of avcodec.dll: ld.exe: cannot find -lmp3lame I'm using the "lame-3.96.1" version, and that compiled just fine. I tried copying its output files "libmp3lame.*" from /local/lib into the libavcodec directory, but that didn't help. I'm definitely not a Unix expert, so maybe this is something very obvious, but what exactly is the linker looking for, and where could it be? Thanks, Ed

Stream mapping

Is it possible to tell ffmpeg to map the video to stream x.1 and the audio to stream x.0 (especially when creating an asf)? I've tried using the map switch but it complains of a "Codec type mismatch for mapping"? I have some asf files in this configuration and when I run them through ffmpeg it switches the streams around automatically. I'm hoping it might work the other way around.

Duration of converted H.263 file is incorrect

I'm using ffmpeg to process a raw H.263 file into an AVI file with mpeg1 video. The duration of the H.263 video is about 10 seconds, but the resulting mpeg1 AVI file is only about 1 second long. If I use "-vcodec copy" to create an AVI file with H.263 video, the duration is also about 1 second. How can I make ffmpeg create an mpeg1 AVI file with the correct duration? I know the duration of the raw H.263 because it was captured from an RTP stream. I also know the frame rate is 10 fps, and there are 65 picture frames. Is there a way to use the RTP timestamps to make the output duration correct (by writing my own program, not through ffmpeg)? I've uploaded the raw H.263 file to ftp.mplayerhq.hu/MPlayer/incoming/video.h263. I have tried downloading and compiling amr-nb as instructed in libavcodec/amr.c, and I still ge the same problem. I am using FFMpeg for simulation. The input is a series of 1024 x 768 jpegs, and I am making them into an MPEG2 file. I can't work out how to change the frame rate to something that isn't in Table 6-4. If I use: ffmpeg -r 24 -i .\1\jpg\flight_sim%3d.jpg -b 8000 -me zero -y test.mpg everything works fine, but if I use: ffmpeg -r 12 -i .\1\jpg\flight_sim%3d.jpg -b 8000 -me zero -y test.mpg I get: [mpeg1video @ 006E2720]MPEG1/2 does not support 12/1 fps What am I doing wrong? If there is an argument to set frame_rate_extension_n and frame_rate_extension_d I can't find it. Thanks
