[Ffmpeg-devel] Re: FFMPEG code a mess

Yes, I've seen the replies. They've spanned all the possible reactions I could think of, almost. I am disappointed, obviously. I was very impressed that an open source effort like FFMPEG existed given its scope and wider use. Anyone who works in this business (video compression) knows how deep and complicated the codecs are. It is a fact that the library is poorly written. I've been writing software for 20 years and I'm sure most people reading this know that whatever software does not need to be coupled, should not be. You should be able to grab whatever codec you want from the library, compile it, without needing 70% of the library because of the amount of coupling there is. I (finally) gave up. Why did I post ? Because there was a comment on the FAQ defending the way the library was coded. It really is the worst piece of s/w I've seen in a long, long time. You don't have to use C++ and classes to write good software. You can write good software in C as well. That's all for now. I won't be back raining on anyone's parade, so the best to all of you. - Joel Schoenblum Sr. Staff Engineer Scientific-Atlanta - - - - - - - Appended by Scientific-Atlanta, Inc. - - - - - - - This e-mail and any attachments may contain information which is confidential, proprietary, privileged or otherwise protected by law. a few problems
by ircone＠yahoo.com 16 Sep '05

1. No audio when converting from mpeg 1&2 to FLV. I used to have this working but now whenever I convert mpeg videos (layers 1 and 2) to FLV I lose my audio. Video converts fine. line looks like this: ffmpeg -i input.mpg output.flv I've tried a bunch of other switches but to no avail. I also can convert from mpeg 1/2 to mp3 just fine. 2. Can't build ffmpeg 0.4.8 on Red Hat Linux. When I make ffmpeg, I error out on "collect2: ld returned 1 exit status." From what I've read, that sounds like I have an old version of...something. But I'm not sure what. Let me know if you'd like to see my configure setup or any other info. 3. Can't use MOV (Quicktime, MPEG4 video AAC audio) as input. I have ffmpeg 0.4.9-pre installed on Red Hat Linux (this is the only thing I was able to build on the machine) and 0.4.8 on Mac OS X Tiger. The 0.4.8 seems to convert MOV to FLV fine (though still having the audio loss issue) but when trying to do the same conversion on the Linux 0.4.9-pre installation, I get the error "No audio or video streams available." I'm running: "ffmpeg -i input.mov output.flv" Would really appreciate any advice on this. Have been struggling with these three for a couple days now. Thanks! -Ian Check out ACMEnoise.com. What is the format of the output file? Is it mp4 or 3gp? 3. Are there any documents or tips to realize this feature? Thanks in advance! Best Regards Huang Gao
