Hi to everyone, I'm using ffmpeg 0.4.9 and I'm trying to convert a vob file (720x576) into a larger one (1440x576) using the pad option. I've used below commands, but the file I've obtained doesn't work properly (PS stream have time discontinuity): ./ffmpeg -i input.VOB -padcolor 000000 -padleft 394 -padright 326 -acodec pcms16be -vcodec mpeg2video output.VOB ./ffmpeg -i input.VOB -padcolor 000000 -padleft 394 -padright 326 -acodec pcms16be -vcodec mpeg2video -sameq -er 4 -g 300 -bf 2 output.VOB Am I wrong with the convertion options? How can obtain a right vob files in output (the input vob works properly)? Anyone can help me? Regards Daniele

Trouble converting certain quicktime files into flv format.

I am having a hard time converting certain quicktime movies into flv format. Some quicktime movies convert some do not. The difference is obviously the bitrate and the audio in the quicktime movies. I am using the latest from cvs. Below are the details. Thanks! Newbie - Getting started
by asbach＠ient.rwth-aachen.de 08 Sep '05

Hi ffmpeg users and developers, first of all, let me introduce myself: I'm a grad student working on image processing. Our chair uses Windows and Linux machines, therefore we use cross platform software wherever possible. One of my colleagues started using intel's OpenCV computer vision library on windows and I adopted that for our linux environment. When we tried to port his software, we were stuck at the time we saw that he uses Windows API methods to write out video files. Now, having access to OpenCV's CVS trunk, we tried to implement video writing for linux via ffmpeg, since ffmpeg was already used to read video files, there. We found some simple examples and the output_example.c in ffmpeg of course, but still I we have troubles in understanding what has to be done which way. This affects video reading as well as writing. In addition, the code in OpenCV is meant to work with 0.4.9pre-1 and lots of changes have been made after that release that break the API. Where could I find info on how to adapt to API changes? In addition: what would be a good starting point to see how to use ffmpeg to do the following tasks: jump to a certain frame number (forwards / backwards?), inquire number of frames / frame rate / duration of video material / control compression rate when writing video? progressive file download while generating the file.
by fredericbochmann＠sympatico.ca 07 Sep '05

Hi, I really dont know much on all the features that ffmpeg offers, thats including ffserver. Is there a way to send back the generated frames as they are being generated via the http response or a HTTP request? I don?t want to wait for the whole file to be done converting before I send the file to the user. What I?m thinking of doing is to have a php page on which you could request a video at a certain resolution for example. When the user requests the page, I?d take the parameters he sends to decide which file to encode, I could make ffmpeg write to a pipe stream and then read the pipe stream from my web environment (PHP in this case, or perl). Is that possible? :o Thanks in advance for any info or hints :-)

DV decoding and encoding
by markrages＠gmail.com 07 Sep '05

07 Sep '05

I am decoding DV frames from a camcorder, than re-encoding them with libavformat. Everythings works OK, but I get this message: [pcm_s16le @ 0x914390]Can't process DV frame #3650. Insufficient video data or severe sync problem. It *always* occurs on frame # 3650. And on frames 7297, 10944, 14592, 18239, 21887, 25534, 29181, 32829, 36476... This is NTSC video with 30000/1001 framerate. The problem also occurs at 30/1 framerate, so I reckon it's not some bizarre drop-frame time code problem. My application is based on output_example.c. But I just call "write_audio_frame" once for each video frame, rather than checking the PTS values. This is because I want the audio to go through, unchanged from the input DV frame to the output DV frame. I'm guessing that the camcorder is not outputting the right amount of audio for libavformat's multiplexer. Doesanyone have ideas for testing this theory? Alternate theories? Comments in MPEG files
by mbardiaux＠mediaxim.be 07 Sep '05

07 Sep '05

Unless I am completely mistaken, there is no way to add some comment in an MPEG file; the field AVFormatContext.comment is simply not used in the MPEG format. But I have a vary fuzzy memory of seeing *some* multimedia application report that some MPEG file had been encoded using TMPGENC version so-and-so. I would like to do something similar to brand my files with the CVS date and the nominal video bitrate (when VBR). Pixel Formats not supported
by georges.legoualher＠etiam.com 06 Sep '05

06 Sep '05

Hi, I'm using ffmpeg (CVS version 2005-08-19), and I've found that some pixel formats are not supported by ffmpeg. I've acquired AVI files from different USB camera or through framegrabbers, and I've the following result: RGB24 : OK RGB32 : OK I420 : NOK (unsupported codec) YUY2 : NOK (unsupported codec) UYVY : NOK (unsupported codec) Y41P : NOK (unsupported codec) IYUV : NOK (unsupported codec) Here is for example the command line and its output for a YUY2 AVI file: $ ffetmpeg.exe -i yuy2.avi -y out.mpg ffmpeg version CVS, build 3211266, Copyright (c) 2000-2004 Fabrice Bellard configuration: --prefix /k/WindowsBuilt --enable-memalign-hack --enable-shared --enable-a52 --enable-gpl built on Aug 24 2005 09:02:41, gcc: 3.4.2 (mingw-special) Input #0, avi, from 'yuy2.avi': Duration: 00:00:04.6, start: 0.000000, bitrate: 175626 kb/s Stream #0.0: Video: YUY2, 768x576, 25.00 fps Output #0, mpeg, to 'out.mpg': Stream #0.0: Video: mpeg1video, yuv420p, 768x576, 25.00 fps, q=2-31, 200 kb/s Stream mapping: Stream #0.0 -> #0.0 Unsupported codec (id=0) for input stream #0.0 Is there a way (for example a particular ffmpeg configuration) to support these pixel formats (at least some of them)? **************************************************************************************** I've also an error message "error while opening file" for an AVI file acquire from an DV: $ffmpeg.exe -i dvdlcp.avi -y out.mpg ffmpeg version CVS, build 3211266, Copyright (c) 2000-2004 Fabrice Bellard configuration: --prefix /k/WindowsBuilt --enable-memalign-hack --enable-shared --enable-a52 --enable-gpl built on Aug 24 2005 09:02:41, gcc: 3.4.2 (mingw-special) dvdlcp.avi: Error while opening file This AVI file contains video+audio acquired from a DV camera. I can play this file with DirectX based viewers. Outside from ffmpeg, one strange thing, is that GSpot indicates "N.A" for the 4CC code associated with this file. Note, that I have no problem manipulating a DV file (acquired without audio channel) with ffmpeg. For that particular file, GSpot indicates 4CC= dvsd. Again, do you have an idea of what could be done to open my dvdlcp.avi file? Many thanks, Georges

Can I have some help with transcoding please
by hyperbit＠msn.com 06 Sep '05

06 Sep '05

Hi, Im taking an MPEG-2 stream directly from a hardware encoder, and using ffmpeg I am able to decode this and display the resulting bitmaps and store the original encoded stream to disk. The problem is that the stream is full D1 resolution(720x576), and the requirements are to store CIF(384x288) to disk. The way I see it is this: 1) Decode a frame 2) Resample the frame (img_resample) 3) encode the frame 4) Store and repeat 1 This uses up way too much CPU (I am reading 2xD1 streams), the CPU is around 55%. Is there a way to transcode *without* decoding/encoding ? Thanks in advance John _________________________________________________________________ Want to block unwanted pop-ups?
