questions about performance tuning and enable-shared
by reid.vail＠mci.com 13 Sep '06

13 Sep '06

Shown below is the ffmpeg version I'm running. I have two questions about different issues: 1) performance tuning and 2) using --enable-shared. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- reid at linux:~/FFMpeg-20050519/FFMpeg-20050519> ffmpeg -version ffmpeg version 0.4.9-pre1, build 4755, Copyright (c) 2000-2004 Fabrice Bellard configuration: --prefix=/usr --enable-mp3lame --enable-gpl built on May 18 2005 22:26:04, gcc: 3.3.4 (pre 3.3.5 20040809) ffmpeg 0.4.9-pre1 libavcodec 4755 libavformat 4624 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) Regarding performance tuning, I wonder if I well get better performance from ffmpeg if I ./configure it with the cpu info I'm using? I have an AMD x86_64. Should I use the --tune option, and would the syntax be --tune=x86_64, or some other syntax. What might that be, please? 2) When I have run ./configure with --enable-shared the Make bombs. Should I be adding some other options or switches (meaning..is it something I'm doing wrong?) and can you tell me what it is I need to do or is ffmpeg just not ready for --enable-shared with x86_64? All: I am able to convert 3gp files to flv format just fine. However I get a error when I try to convert a 3g2 to flv. Is there something I need to enable to accomplish this? thanks. ffmpeg -i Video_082305_001.3g2 -hq -acodec mp3 -ar 44100 -ab 64 -f flv -s 320x240 -aspect 4:3 -y Video_082305_001.flv ffmpeg version CVS, build 3211266, Copyright (c) 2000-2004 Fabrice Bellard configuration: --enable-mp3lame --enable-gpl --enable-faad --enable-faac --enable-amr_nb built on Aug 21 2005 23:55:01, gcc: 3.3.3 20040412 (Red Hat Linux 3.3.3-7) Input #0, mov,mp4,m4a,3gp,3g2, from 'Video_082305_001.3g2': Duration: 00:00:29.3, start: 0.000000, bitrate: 113 kb/s Stream #0.0: Audio: aac, 64000 Hz, 9 channels Stream #0.1: Video: mpeg4, yuv420p, 320x240, 15.00 fps Resampling with input channels greater than 2 unsupported. Can't resample. Could not find video grab device
by ffmpeg＠xmob.co.uk 23 Feb '06

Hello list! First post and it's a request for help. I've just built the latest CVS of ffmpeg, and my video capture doesn't appear to be working. This is what I get: [root at kryten ffmpeg]# ./ffmpeg test.mpg FFmpeg version CVS, Copyright (c) 2000-2004 Fabrice Bellard configuration: libavutil version: 49.0.0 libavcodec version: 51.1.0 libavformat version: 50.0.0 built on Jan 29 2006 16:28:32, gcc: 4.0.2 20051125 (Red Hat 4.0.2-8) Could not find video grab device I'm running FC4 (Linux kryten.xmob.co.uk 2.6.14-1.1656_FC4). The audio works fine, and the card works fine with the likes of tvtime, camE etc. I've also had the exact same card working with 4.8 on FC2. The card is an el-cheapo 4 port BT878 one (an eBay special). I've tried with -vd /dev/video and -d /dev/video0, and still no joy. Ok, so this mail is now also going to ffmpeg-user, and hopefully followups will only be there. I don't need to upload the files, I just have to say where I got them :) <http://downloads.oreilly.com/make/MAKE_2005-07-18.m4b> has JPEG images, and works in mplayer. <http://downloads.oreilly.com/make/MAKE_2005-08-01.m4b> (and all the others from the RSS feed I linked above) has TIFF images, and the pictures aren't displayed (audio works). -- Joshua 'bruce' Crawford ... http://www.geocities.com/mortarn Quando omni flunkus moritati

Problem decoding blank mpg with lavc. Saved .ppm frames gives 2 vertical stripes.
by pranavadesai＠gmail.com 02 Feb '06

02 Feb '06

Hello All, I am doing some testing on blank frame detection using lavc to detect commercial. I am using some code from mythtv commflag. So I thought I will start by testing it on a blank mpg itself. I created a blank/black mpg using the output_example.c provided with ffmpeg. I made all the Y values to 0 and UV values 128 in fill_yuv_image(). I am not sure if this the right way to do it, but it does generate a blank/black mpg (I can attach it if needed). I then use the avcodec_example.cpp provided here ( http://www.inb.uni-luebeck.de/~boehme/libavcodec_update.html<http://www.inb.uni-luebeck.de/%7Eboehme/libavcodec_update.html>). This link is on the ffmpeg doc pages. This program saves the first 5 frames of an mpg video. Below is a part of the code. When the frame is converted to RGB, it seems to correctly give a blank/black image. But if YUV is used , there are 2 vertical stripes on the image. I have attached a jpg version of the frame saved using the program. I am not sure what am I doing wrong. I would really appreciate if someone could help me out with this. Thanks for taking the time to read this and let me know if you need the above mentioned code. I can send it as a separate mail. Thanks -Pranav ------------------------------------------------------------------- while(av_read_frame(pFormatCtx, &packet)>=0) { // Is this a packet from the video stream? if(packet.stream_index==videoStream) { // Decode video frame avcodec_decode_video(pCodecCtx, pFrame, &frameFinished, packet.data, packet.size); // Did we get a video frame? if(frameFinished) { // Convert the image from its native format to RGB img_convert((AVPicture *)pFrameRGB, PIX_FMT_RGB24, (AVPicture*)pFrame, pCodecCtx->pix_fmt, pCodecCtx->width, pCodecCtx->height); // Save the frame to disk if(++i<=5) { //SaveFrame(pFrameRGB, pCodecCtx->width, pCodecCtx->height, i); SaveFrame(pFrame, pCodecCtx->width, pCodecCtx->height, i); } } } // Free the packet that was allocated by av_read_frame av_free_packet(&packet); } -------------------------------------------------------------------

How to know frame count and go to specify frame?
by apuntesus＠yahoo.com 31 Jan '06

31 Jan '06

Hi to all , I am newbie , i do some test with avcodec and avformat. Now i can open file , and get one frame picture (the first frame in the file) and save this picture into file. I would like to know if there is one function to tell me how many frames has this stream (Frame count) and how to go to specify frame. Thanks. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Mail has the best spam protection around http://mail.yahoo.com

simple pipeline
by tom＠dbservice.com 31 Jan '06

31 Jan '06

I'd like to create a simple pipeline in C that converts raw RGB(A) images in realtime into a video. The raw images are 1280x1024 @ ~30fps (variable framerate), so I won't get around scaling them down a bit, but that's fine. Now is there any sample code that I could use? The pipeline which I need is very simple, no audio, just one video stream, container format doesn't matter, video format I think would be ffv1 best, or huffyuv, but I'd need to test a bit which one is faster. Can anyone help me? thanks tom
