[OT] DCT/IDCT and YUV madness
by cheaterjs＠gmx.de 30 Dec '06

30 Dec '06

I know this has nothing to do with ffmpeg, but I think the video compression gurus here really can help me with my problem... My problem is quite simple. I read YV12 pixel values from a .yuv-file ( qcif, for example the news.qcif sample ), split everything in 8x8 blocks and look which blocks change. Everything works well until now. I have read the pixel values of chars ( Range -127 - 128 ). Now I DCT the blocks which change, and quant them. After that I unquant and iDCT them and write them back. I play the file with mplayer. I have derivations of about +- 1 in the pixel values of each plane. The picture looks OK, but I get wired "noise" artifacts when it comes to very dark or very bright surfaces. I get black noise in white surfaces and white noise in balck surfaces. Especally at borders between brighter and darker surfaces. JPEG and MPEG somehow solve this problem...But I can't see how. Maybe I should convert to another colorspace ( Y'CbCr ?!?! ) to solve my problem... Thank you for every answer or suggestion!! Greetings, Jan Schiefer!

Problem while compiling with x264 and AMR
by jmetillon＠gmail.com 29 Dec '06

29 Dec '06

Hi, I have FFmpeg installed in my Ubuntu Edgy box. But it does not support x264 and AMR. So I want to compile it against these libraries. First I uninstalled FFmpeg. Then I checked out a working copy of FFmpeg from the svn repository to /usr/local/src This is revision 7381. I installed libx264-dev. Then I downloaded the AMR sources (float version) as described in /usr/local/src/ffmpeg/libavcodec/amr.c I unziped the archive in /usr/local/src/ffmpeg/libavcodec/amr_float Then I run ./configure with the following options: --enable-gpl --enable-pp --enable-pthreads --enable-vorbis --enable-libogg --enable-a52 --enable-dts --enable-libgsm --enable-dc1394 --disable-debug --enable-shared --enable-mp3lame --enable-xvid --enable-x264 --enable-amr_nb --enable-amr_if2 It works. Then make, and after a few minutes of compiling it crashes with: Wredundant-decls -O3 -c -o x264.o x264.c x264.c: In function 'X264_init': x264.c:152: error: 'struct <anonymous>' has no member named 'f_rf_constant' make[1]: *** [x264.o] Error 1 make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/local/src/ffmpeg/libavcodec' make: *** [lib] Error 2 Am I facing a known bugs or am I doing something wrong? So I tried without --enable-x264 and this time it works so I can sudo make install but when I run ffmpeg, it says: bash: /usr/bin/ffmpeg: No such file or directory Where's the binary gone??? Audio lost during conversion to FLV
by darius＠digitalexe.net 28 Dec '06

28 Dec '06

Hello all, this is an interesting problem I have come upon. I have installed on my server (Linux RedHat) FFMPEG for conversion from common file format (avi, mpeg, etc.) to flv files (default video codec, LAME mp3 audio codec). I do have LAME installed with it enabled in FFMPEG. I am executing the commands from PHP, but I have also attempted executing the same ones from the shell. When I run the command to convert an mpeg file (mpeg1-video, mp2 audio) to an flv file, the audio is mysteriously stripped. >>ffmpeg -i video.mpg -acodec mp3 -ab 56 -ar 22050 -b 500 -r 25 -s 320x240 >>video.flv Input #0, mpeg, from 'video.mpg': Duration: 00:00:33.9, bitrate: 1456 kb/s Stream #0.0: Video: mpeg1video, 352x240, 29.97 fps Stream #0.1: Audio: mp2, 44100 Hz, stereo, 224 kb/s Output #0, flv, to 'video.flv': Stream #0.0: Video: flv, 320x240, 25.00 fps, q=2-31, 500 kb/s Stream mapping: Stream #0.0 -> #0.0 [flv @ 0x6efbd0]removing common factors from framerate Press [q] to stop encoding frame= 53 q=13.2 size= 275kB time=2.1 bitrate=1063.3kbits/s frame= 105 q=18.9 size= 410kB time=4.2 bitrate= 798.8kbits/s frame= 164 q=16.0 size= 545kB time=6.6 bitrate= 680.3kbits/s frame= 185 q=17.1 size= 595kB time=7.4 bitrate= 658.2kbits/s frame= 242 q=16.5 size= 729kB time=9.7 bitrate= 617.2kbits/s frame= 301 q=14.3 size= 862kB time=12.0 bitrate= 586.3kbits/s frame= 361 q=14.6 size= 1003kB time=14.4 bitrate= 569.1kbits/s frame= 420 q=18.1 size= 1152kB time=16.8 bitrate= 561.8kbits/s frame= 479 q=14.1 size= 1292kB time=19.2 bitrate= 552.6kbits/s frame= 540 q=13.7 size= 1439kB time=21.6 bitrate= 545.8kbits/s frame= 600 q=16.1 size= 1589kB time=24.0 bitrate= 542.3kbits/s frame= 660 q=14.4 size= 1737kB time=26.4 bitrate= 538.9kbits/s frame= 721 q=15.0 size= 1889kB time=28.8 bitrate= 536.7kbits/s frame= 766 q=11.5 size= 2005kB time=30.6 bitrate= 535.9kbits/s frame= 826 q=10.9 size= 2148kB time=33.0 bitrate= 532.5kbits/s frame= 883 q=20.7 size= 2300kB time=35.3 bitrate= 533.4kbits/s frame= 889 q=21.9 Lsize= 2320kB time=35.6 bitrate= 534.4kbits/s video:2196kB audio:0kB global headers:0kB muxing overhead 5.636214% ffmpeg version 0.4.9-pre1, build 4718, Copyright (c) 2000-2004 Fabrice Bellard built on Nov 11 2006 21:48:03, gcc: 3.4.6 20060404 (Red Hat 3.4.6-3) As you can see, it does not realise that I am specifiying an output audio codec, but only video. Hinting MP4 media for streaming with DSS

Thanks Mark! I just read on the GPAC site there is a licensing issue for the binary release. There are some rpm's I can find for Suse and other Linux distributions but not for fedora. Did you install MP4Box with an rpm? Do you still have it and can you send it to me? Cheers, Kevin

H.264: pts == 0

Hi. I am using x264 to encode video from a webcam, and libavcodec to decode it, and I find that frame->pts is always 0 in the decoded frame, although I set it to a meaningful value at encoding. Is it normal? Regards, -- Nicolas George
