I'm trying to set the VLC (or ffmpeg) for streaming a video content received in UDP packets from a port. Anybody has an idea how to do this? Thanks Amin

Hi all, first post here so some background: I am in the process of converting nearly 3000 user submitted videos to my website into FLV format. After a month I am now in the situation where they pretty much all will convert with either ffmpeg or mencoder. However I am left with a plethora of issues. ffmpeg converted videos are often corrupted after the first few seconds of playing and will often just halt in the player. mencoder converted videos seem to be unrecognisable by any flv player I have used (but I will post examples to the other list). Hello!!! How are you? I am tried to use libreria ffmpeg to compress the image which I obtain from webcam, I am doing it frame by frame now, when codifying I do not have problem, but when I decompress uses much virtual memory until she consumes it, and I must reinitiate the computer, avcodec_decode_video() consumes much memory? That I must make to release that used memory? I must open and close the coder whenever decodifique frame? Thanks a lot !!! Maria...

vcodec copy does not work for matroska files

Hi, I am trying to take an existing .mkv file and change it to a MOV container, while transcoding the audio to AAC. I need a MOV container with MPEG4 or MPEG4/AVC (H.264) and AAC in order to play back the video on my xbox 360. Anyway, the input file in this case is one of the sample Matroska files on www.matroska.org. It is MPEG4 video and Vorbis audio, but I've tried this for other Matroska files (H.264 video, AC3 audio) and the same error occurs. First of all, here is the command line I'm using: ffmpeg -i starwars10MB-1.mkv -vcodec copy -acodec libfaac -ab 128k sw.mov With this command, I get the warning: WARNING codec timebase is very high. If duration is too long, file may not be playable by quicktime. Specify a shorter timebase or choose different container. Then later on during the transcoding process, I get an error: FATAL error, file duration too long for timebase, this file will not be/s playable with quicktime. Choose a different timebase or a different container format I tried using an mp4 container instead, and it gives me the warning above but not the error. However, the resulting mp4 file is unplayable in Quicktime and in VLC the video is garbled/unviewable. If the input source is H.264 video, the resulting mp4 file has a bogus bitrate and a reported fps of 1000! optimize transcode: get bitrate information and frame information

Hi I was wondering how to get at the bitrate and fps numbers for an input video to fine tune the transcode process. I know that ffmpeg writes these numbers to stdout when you run it. But is there a way to just query this information without doing a mock transcode. Also I am curious how do you get the statistics like the one Stefano sabatini mentioned in a post related to an mov file Stefano Sabatini said In the case of the original file you have: I frames mean size: 4208.91472868217 I frames number: 129 P frames mean size: 2713.66288017589 P frames number: 2729 With the FLV encoded by ffmpeg you get: I frames mean size: 9357.03571428572 I frames number: 140 P frames mean size: 3458.86428834131 P frames number: 2719 I want to really understand the transcode process so any inputs I can get will be very helpful Thanks hari

ipod Baseline Low-Complexity Profile

Hi all, im trying to encode videos for the iPod in 640x480 resolution which should use "Baseline Low-Complexity Profile" as described in the iPod specs. I found this tutorial by Robert Swain: http://rob.opendot.cl/index.php/useful-stuff/ipod-video-guide/ Is there a way to get working files without setting the UUID? Or something like "-f ipod"? Two pass flash encoding error with newest build
