Hello. I have recently had to manually configure and compile ffmpeg for mp3 encoding support as I am an Ubuntu user and the ffmpeg at official repos does not have mp3 lame encoding support. Everything works fine, however I miss the ffmpeg manpage. Is there a way to "install" it? Rate control with libx264 not working for me. Rats!

Hey folks! I have a version of ffmpeg and libx264 both built from today's sources. No matter whether I use -b/-bt or -crf or -cqp none of them change the bit rate very much. I expected, say, -b 1000k -bt 100k to end up somewhere between 900kb/s and 1100kb/s, but no matter what I do I'm always getting around 1500kb/s with my test case. Same thing if I use -crf instead and vary it from 16 to 36. . . Following is my command line. Hopefully I'm just missing something stoopid that'll be obvious to someone. ;-) Note that this isn't yet an attempt at a final command line; there are other options I'll need to add after I get ratecontrol working. . . Nokia 3gp sound problems

I have an issue with some 3gp files that produce an output with the sound running twice the speed to the video. This appears to happen with Nokia 3gp files. It does not matter what the output format is. Even outputting only the audio part still does the same. ? The output from ffmpeg also gives warnings such as:- ?Multiple frames in a packet from stream 1? many times although this does not always cause the sound fault. ? Has anyone else had this problem with Nokia 3gp?s? If the original file is played through Quicktime it plays fine so it has to be the libamr-nb codec. Why should the libamr-nb codec be mis-reading these files?

Hi, I have problems with converting videos from my new full HD camcorder (Panasonic HDC-SD100) to other formats like PAL-DVD. The PAL-DVD encoded video plays too slow. I also wonder if this is bug or feature in original file, ffmpeg, x264 library or where? Then I really start to look at the trick how to avoid this. But it did not work for me for some reason, again wrong (half) speed when playing the video. >From this list I finally found the solution, need to run ffmpeg twice and pipe between them to yuvfps like: ffmpeg -i 00004.mts -f yuv4mpegpipe -deinterlace -sameq - \ | yuvfps -c -r 50:1 - \ | ffmpeg -f yuv4mpegpipe -i - -i 00004.mts \ -target pal-dvd 00004.mpg This seems to work and I have video with correct speed, great. But this does not seem to be very effective way to do the trick, is there any other solution? At least when I want to get very good quality output and use 2 pass decoding it takes very much time to decode the videos. I have about 5 hours *.mts videos I want to encode to PAL DVD compatible format. Probably I want to convert them also with other format like 720p HD (Xvid mpeg4 probably?) which I can run with my slow (single core) computer but better quality than normal PAL DVD mpeg2. I would appreciate any kind of tips I can do this converting: 1) as good quality as possible 2) improve speed of encoding Thanks! Regards, Tommi

I did eventually make ffmpeg compile, but the result was all the converted videos displayed a green screen. The only way I think you will make ffmpeg work is by using an older revision. The revision might be a little old, but it is still very functional. I suggest revision 11000. This is what worked very well for me. FFserver live streaming

I would like to broadcast live video from a web cam to a web page, and I would like to know if ffserver can do this. Essentially, I have a PC with a web cam. This PC will encode the webcam's feed along with the audio from a mic into a h.264+mp3 stream, and then feed it to a web server at a remote location with a large amount of bandwidth so that it can rebroadcast it to a potentially large number of viewers via an embedded flash player in a web site. Can ffmpeg + ffserver do live broadcasting in this way?

Live http output/targets

I'm interested in sending the output from ffmpeg to generic web server, and having code on that server receive the stream (either piping it a file or relay to users via circ. buffer etc). Just running a couple quick tests I see ffmpeg sends a POST with 'Range = bytes=0-', which implies it is a open-ended stream, like one would expect... However even though my log show a 200 response was sent, something is aborting the stream; ffmpeg (a svn build from May this year) exits with: av_interleaved_write_frame(): Error while parsing header when I run something like: ffmpeg -i test.wav -f mp3 -ac 2 -vn http://localhost/snoop.jsp , even if I set up a URI on the server that accepts a open-ended input-stream and not expecting http-param or newline formatting. Ive tried various other output-stream formats including mpeg and mpegts. Is there a doc that describes the protocol ffmpeg wants to use over a generic http server? Might there be a two-way setup/protocol on the socket before ffmpeg starts sending the data? Thanks!! ken

Hi, all. Being a regular reader on ffmpeg-soc mail list (and other ffmpeg lists), I've been wondering how's the work progressing on Alexander's frame-based multithreading. I picked up is file on http://google-summer-of-code-2008-ffmpeg.googlecode.com/files/Alexander_Str… compiled it against trunk, but no difference was noted on h264 satellite streams on my vdr HTPC machine. Still the same (very) unbalanced work-per-core percentage instead of a real balanced work-per-core. And since Alexander's ffmpeg branch tree - http://gitorious.org/projects/ffmpeg/repos/ffmpeg-mt - isn't changed since September 4, same day file mentioned above was uploaded, I was wondering if everything is ok. Bottom line, anyone tested it? Is it going to be committed to main tree? On a side note, CONGRATULATIONS to the ffmpeg team and all it's students. 7 out of 7. Seven slots accepted by Google SoC, 7 slots with valid work presented to the community. You rock! hudo
