Hello, I was wondering if you could tell me whether ffmpeg now supports multithreading for h.264, other than with multiple slices. I was also wondering if interlaced h.264 streams are supported as well. Thank you very much, Nazneen

FFserver for windows

HelloI am able to use ffmpeg and ffserver on fedora 9. I could not get a windows build of ffserver any where on the web. I tried Mingw+msys and cygwin on windows to compile the source. I also tried to cross compile from fedora using fedora's Mingw At the end of a couple of week's effort I could not build ffserver.exe. Please tell me whether it is possible to use ffserver on windows, if yes please tell me how to build it get it. Thank you

help cleaning up bad video

Hi, I am using the windows version 15666 from svn on xp and vista. I am getting mpeg-2 videos(720x480, ntsc, interlaced, 3000kbs) captured by Hauppauge cards from a video camera. Changing out the video camera and the card is not an option for us at this time. The original mpeg files have a sort of moir? effect in them and look a little blocky and have that "vibration" to them that you sometimes get. If I use the following command to resize them to 360x240, the moir? goes away and they even look pretty good zoomed 200% back to 720x480 during playback. Seekable output requirement for mp4 muxer?

[mov @ 0x88e3320]muxer does not support non seekable output Could not write header for output file #0 (incorrect codec parameters ?) Since I'd like to stream the converted files straight out of encoder without buffering to local disk, if possible, does anyone know a way around the seekability requirement for the output of mp4 files?

Problem with FLV conversion

Hi, I have a problem. Whenever I try to convert files to FLV, they always end up being 320x240, although my original files are PAL DV files 720x480 and although I specify the same size for the FLV files on the ffmpeg commandline. Increasing Video Quality

Hi folks. I'm back. Just a quick question. I just installed the latest version on a new workstation, and she's working fine. Did a .mov conversion to .flv and it's great. The quality isn't what I am expecting, so I'm anxious to start playing with some options to bring up the quality. Would a double pass work better? If so, on Mac OS X, it's asking for the log file to be installed, but I am not sure where it needs to be. ffmpeg2pass-0.log isn't there, and it's unable to process. I tried in /var/log/ as that is where most logs are, and nothing. Tried ffmpeg2pass.log even. Nothing. Any other ideas about raising video quality? Cheers Rich in Toronto ...now go get on your bike

Color Space 601 output for DVDs

(I am a newbie to ffmpeg and tried to solve the problem but no luck. Googled the world but couldn't find the answer there) I am having the problem encoding DVD from a Avid DV50 pal quicktime file. The file turns out too dark due to the output color space. I think it is not related to the input file at all. I've run some tests and the following seems to happen: Input file colour-space 601=>Output file RGB (blacks crushed) Input file color-space RGB=> Output file RGB I do need the opposite to happen: Input file colour-space 601=>Output file 601 Input file color-space RGB=> Output file 601 I am using the following command line: ffmpeg -dia_size full -top 0 -threads 4 -i input.mov -aspect 16:9 -acodec ac3 -ab 192k -b 9400000 -minrate 9400000 -maxrate 9400000 -bufsize 1835000 -f dvd -pix_fmt yuv420p -g 12 -s 720x576 -i_qfactor 0.833333 -b_qfactor 1.25 -bf 2 -y output.mpg I've tried to change the pix_fmt to yuvj420 which seems to make no difference. So what am I doing wrong here? How do I get an input file which is RGB or 601 to output as 601 for a DVD? I couldn't find anything in the documentation that suggests a parameter for color space. read a packet from a list

hallo, could someone tell me if is possible and how to read and decode an audio and/or video AVPacket from a previous created list of AVPacket read from a file instead that read directly with av_read_frame function called frame after frame? My problem is that after stored all the frame in a list of packets, when I grab one and pass it at the av_decode... functions, they returned me an error and never decode the frames. I suppose that the av_read_... and/or av_decode_... functions write some infos in the AVFormatContext or AVCodecContext functions after the read and decode of a packet. If that is true, what can I do to tell at the structures to decode the correct packet in my sequence? I hope to have not made too much mess in the description of my problem. Hi, I am using ffmpeg to encode a file to h264. I want to change the sps-id of the output file, but I can't find any ffmpeg cmd-line option for that. The --sps-id option is present in x264 cmd-line but its not there in ffmpeg's help. Can someone please tell me how to give it to ffmpeg ? Thanks, Akshat

mpg from DVBT and mpg for desk DVD player

Someone cal help me to transform an mpg file produced by a DVBT usb receiver in a mpg for desk DVD player (if a play the file output of the usb DVBT on desk DVD player, audio and video are not syncronous, but the same file on the pc is syncronous). belcampo in this group suggested me a possible problem related to time stamps that in the file produced by DVBT are understandable by the pc and non from the DVD player He proposed me ffmmpeg -i source.mpg -f dvd dvddeskplayerformat.mpg but,, in this way, the dvddeskplayerformat.mpg are non syncronous also on the pc. VOB -> AVI returns 139 code

TWIMC: I've been using ffmpeg for quite some time now to do transcode from DVD/VOB to AVI and things seemed to have been working just fine. However, recently i've started to see ffmpeg return and error code of 139. Couple of questions ... 1) Is there any documentation that would help in deciphering what the error code means? 2) If not, has anyone run into or seen this issue before? Hello, I am generating an mpg file from a list of tga image files. This works fine except that the mpeg encoding is adding compression tile artifacts to the video. How do I eliminate as much of the compression as possible to retain the quality of each image frame? Thanks P

decoding interlaced h264 files with ffmpeg results in doubling of frames

I am trying to decode interlaced h264 encoded files with ffmpeg. The source is 625i reference files from the VQEG website. I take the src YUV files and encode them to h264 and then use ffmpeg to decode them back to yuv. The resulting decoded yuv file has twice as many frames as the original. Yet when I decode the h264 file with JM it has the correct number of frames. Further analysis does show that frame 0 and 1 are the same and frame 2 and 3 are the same. The command line that I use for ffmpeg is as follows: ffmpeg -i src6_576i_420_5mb_25.264 src6_576i_420_5mb_25_decode.yuv What am I missing? Is there a switch that I need to let ffmpeg know that it is interlaced? My guess is that the Frame and Field counts are getting mixed up or something. Decoding AAC problems.

Trying to convert MOV to FLV on Centos 5.2. It creates the FLV file but when played the video is fine, but the audio is all jumbled in the first seconds of the video then stops. Here is the output. Getting a repeating error about an array index being out of range. I've found a few posts pertaining to a similar problem when trying to decode AAC, but found no solutions. Any ideas? I'm getting the error message in the subject ("number of reference frames exceeds max (probably corrupt input), discarding one") with virtually all of my H264 MKVs when played in the latest release of VLC. These files now stutter and pixelate and have weird colors every few seconds, but with older releases of VLC they didn't. They played flawlessly. Googling the error message led me to the libavcodec source repository and many postings across the internet talking about it appearing for mythtv, mplayer, and others (so I figure it's not specific to VLC...and that I should ask here instead of on the VLC forums). From what little I understand this sounds like libavcodec is finally cracking down on something in a H264 stream being kinda screwy...I could be wrong in my understanding of that though. Is there something I can do to fix them (e.g. run a utility to increase the "maximum number of reference frames", whatever that means) and get my smooth playback back? Thanks, Michael L. Freeman

disabling altivec

I compiled and was able to run ffmpeg on my Powerbook G4. I made sure to --disable-altivec. When I moved the binary to my G3 based iBook, ffmpeg fails to run giving me an illegal instruction. It crashes at a function called dct_unquantize_h263_altivec. How do I make it so ffmpeg does not call any functions that use altivec when on a G3 processor? For some time I've had numerous issues when (re)encoding bluray content into a smaller and more economical size for backup. Because the cost of 25Gb blank media is roughly one fifth that of its 50Gb big brother at current prices, the incentive for re-encoding larger video streams into more manageable spaces through something like the usual H264 tricks is appealing. However, more than an occasional snag is encountered when attempting to encode the smaller sized video stream with its original audio stream. After a little fussing around, I reduced the problem down to the two essential considerations of consistent frame rate through out the entire process and the equally important notion of retaining the original time stamps in all the steps. The following pseudo command lines demonstrate a couple of ffmpeg arguments I used to first process an original video stream into a smaller size and then secondly to encode that result with its original audio into a final form. First, reduce the size of the video stream while retaining original timestamps and ensuring the desired frame rate ......... ffmpeg -y -i <some original>.m2ts -vcodec libx264 <whatever x264 options one wishes to employ for best quality-to-size> -an *-r 23.976 -copyts *<new video>.h264 Then re-encode the original audio stream with the new and smaller video stream, again ensuring that the original timestamps are passed along with the desired frame rate, as follows ....... ffmpeg *-r 23.976 *-i <new video>.h264 -vcodec copy -i <original audio> -acodec copy -f mpegts -ps 192 *-copyts *<final media stream>.m2ts. I've seen many posts over the years regarding A/V syncing problems with ffmpeg and I felt that if the integrity and consistency of a couple of very important features of the original content were preserved in subsequent processing, relatively flawless results would follow. After all, there is nothing quite like ffmpeg. My tribute to all of you who have developed one of the best media processing platforms to date. Cheers.

still trying to compile ffmpeg on mac

I am trying to compile ffmpeg as a shared library, so I can install ffmpeg-php to work with php 4.4.8. My dev server is on a Mac (os 10.4.2). I did finally get the newest revision of ffmpeg to install, but then it would not work with ffmpeg-php 0.5.1 and they recommended r15261 as the last revision of ffmpeg that would work with ffmpeg-php 0.5.1 (which is the latest that would work with php 4.4.8, which is what is currently on the production server I'm developing for). Any chance someone can help me with this, or am I SOL since I'm not using the latest revision? anyways, here's my config settings and the make error I'm getting. svn ffmpeg fails with multiple video streams

I'm using the latest ffmpeg from svn (or is it git?) and whenever I try to ffmpeg -i an m2ts file with multiple video streams it just hangs without providing info. If I downgrade to the latest stable on Gentoo it provides info (and says "frame rate differs from container frame rate") but I need the latest ffmpeg to play an m2ts file. Is there a fix for this? - Grant
