Frame rate and movies from images

I am using ffmpeg to create movies from a directory of images. This is the command I use: ffmpeg -i imagedir/%05d.jpg -b 1800 video.mp4 This works great except that I want to be able to slow down the playback to say 6 frames per second. I tried this: ffmpeg -i imagedir/%05d.jpg -r 6 -b 1800 video.mp4 Which does playback at 6 frames per second, but what seems to be happening is that ffmpeg is also skipping frames. So if I have say 506 images in the images directory, the resulting movie uses only 123 frames. I can see where this something you might want, if you don't want the duration of the output movie to change with different frame rates, but is there a way to force it to use all the frames and extend the duration? I tried using the -vframes flag but it didn't seem to do anything: ffmpeg -i imagedir/%05d.jpg -r 6 -vframes 506 -b 1800 video.mp4 thanks, josh

I did try ffmpeg -r 30 -i input_mjpg.avi -r 60 -vcodec copy -an test.avi and does not change the frame rate. Can anybody suggest me the correct command line? thank you D

convert a sequence of images to a video file

Hi, I would like to convert a series of images (png files) to a video. Would something like this work? ffmpeg -r 29.97 -i /images/picture%.png out.avi When I try the above, I get picture%d.jpg: I/O error occurred Usually that means that input file is truncated and/or corrupted. Thanks, Josh

named pipes - > x264

Hi, I was following these instructions to do a named pipe to x264 http://ffmpeg.x264.googlepages.com/piping mkfifo fifo.y4m ffmpeg -i test.mp4 -an -f yuv4mpegpipe - > fifo.y4m & x264 --quiet --crf 18 -o video.264 fifo.y4m For some reason, ffmpeg just sits here Stream mapping: Stream #0.1 -> #0.0 Press [q] to stop encoding It doesn't do any processing of test.mp4 and basically sits as a blank console. If I do something like ffmpeg -i test.mp4 -an -f yuv4mpegpipe - > test.y4m & Where test.y4m is not a named pipe, then test.y4m will end up being the yuv4 data... So I guess my question is, is there some extra option I need to compile ffmpeg or x264 with? Or is there another option I need to pass in? I tested this on Ubuntu 8.04 and centos 5.2 Thanks, Josh

.m4a to .flv - image/video fails

Hi all, I have greatly appreciated the information I have already gleaned from reading this forum. However I still can not solve my current problem. I am trying to convert from .m4a to .flv. These are podcast files (.m4a) built in garage band. Pictures were added as well and we would like to use this format to create weekly announcements because Garage Band is so easy for our non-technically oriented staff. Using ffmpeg the audio converts just fine but the "video" is not right. I guess it's because these files include chapter data not actual video. However when I convert it to any format the images fly through at different rates, then it seems to get stuck on a picture in the middle. The format I would like to convert to is flash so that I can easy display multiple announcement files using a flash player. I can convert .mov to .flv no problem. Converting .m4a to .mov and then .flv doesn't produce any better results. video4linux2 - NTSC webcam

I'm hoping someone can lead me in the right direction.? I've upgraded my OLD debian to ubuntu and noticed my old-fashioned way of capturing video from my webcam doesn't work anymore.? I used to be able to call ffmpeg with: ffmpeg -vd /dev/video0 -s 320x240 test.flv I noticed that ffmpeg now requires: ffmpeg -f video4linux2 -i /dev/video0 However, I am getting errors about incorrect parameters with the following: ffmpeg -f video4linux2 -i /dev/video0 -s 320x240 -an test.flv FFmpeg version SVN-rUNKNOWN, Copyright (c) 2000-2007 Fabrice Bellard, et al. ? configuration: --enable-gpl --enable-pp --enable-swscaler --enable-pthreads --enable-libvorbis --enable-libtheora --enable-libogg --enable-libgsm --enable-dc1394 --disable-debug --enable-shared --prefix=/usr ? libavutil version: 1d.49.3.0 ? libavcodec version: 1d.51.38.0 ? libavformat version: 1d.51.10.0 ? built on Mar 12 2008 14:31:53, gcc: 4.2.3 (Ubuntu 4.2.3-2ubuntu4) [video4linux2 @ 0xb7fc7110]Missing/Wrong parameters /dev/video0: Error while opening file I've changed permissions to /dev/video0 with chmod g+rw /dev/video0 since I had issues like that in the past. I must be missing some newly-required parameters?? In a more recent SVN (June 22nd), I got a similar error, but it had text more like "Incorrect width, height, or rate". Any help is appreciated.

DV100 encoded MXF file?

I'm getting an error when I try the following... I have a QuickTime wrapped file with the following streams: Stream #0.0(eng): Video: dvvideo, yuv422p, 960x720, 59.94 tb(r) Stream #0.1(eng): Audio: pcm_s16be, 48000 Hz, stereo, s16, 1536 kb/s Stream #0.2(eng): Data: tmcd / 0x64636D74 What I want to to is re-wrap the video stream only into a MXF file. I'm using the following command line: ffmpeg -i input.mov -vcodec copy -an output.mxf when I try to do this I get the following error: [mxf @ 0x36473a0]track 0: could not find essence container ul, codec not currently supported in container Could not write header for output file #0 (incorrect codec parameters ?) Due to the software I'm using I need an MXF wrapped dv100 file; mpeg2 will not work for me. I downloaded today's snapshot of ffmpeg and installed it on a Red Hat 5 x86_64 box. Is there anything I can do about this?

Hello all; I'm getting a spurious ffmpeg crash in avformat.dll... it crashes when i terminate a udp open request - where the udp read is blocked (as there is no data coming through). the crash is intermittent... however, my application always crashes in _heap_alloc_dbg... or so VS debugger claims - the top of stack is avformat.dll 0x6c33cf94 (and apparently avformat.dll is loaded into virtual address 0x6c00000) so i'm wondering if this could be due to the stack alignment issue and wish to recompile using gcc 4.2 and having a hard time finding a official gcc4.2 site. i did find TDM's experimental site but was not sure about patches to ffmpeg that someone alluded to in one of the mail group messages... if TDM is the place to try it, is there a site that has the patch ? Or should i simply apply the diffs that was listed in one of the mail messages that pointed to the TDM's experimental site? any help is appreciated. kindest regards, shesh

Compiling ffmpeg with extra libs without root access

Hi I am trying to compile ffmpeg but I don't have root privilige on the machine. I've compiled using --prefix when configuring - but the problem is that I need to use lameMp3 encoder and libamr-wb and libamr- nb. These I have installed and placed in my home dir - but how do I make sure that ffmpeg looks there when compiling. This is my problem - how do I tell ffmpeg explicitly where to look for extra libs?
