ffmpeg web mixer project
by dodiesis＠gmail.com 26 Feb '08

26 Feb '08

Hi all. I have to develop a little web application using ffmpeg as video engine. In this app there are many live streamed video (from webcams) sent to a web server. On this web server there is a ffmpeg based cgi program that get one of these stream and publish it as a flv/mov file (for a flash player) >From a web interface it is possilbe (driving the ffmpeg based program) to switch among the streamed source choosing which webcam to publish. The prototype made in PHP with ffmpeg called from the command line went well. Now it' time to develop a serious C app. What I want to do is a simple stream proxy: my app should get one A/V stream as input and send it to the browser(s) on demand. The C app scheleton (CGI IPC... connections stuff...) is done, but I'm stucked on the ffmpeg API (I started from output_example.c) Now the questions: - At the beginng, my proxy was really stupid: it took the stream from a TCP socket (source) and it sent it to another socket (flash player http call). Without understanding what It was reading. It didn't work. Then I decided to use ffmpeg, so my app now knows what it is doing. Am I in the rigth way or it is possible to do a blind "NAT" with streams, and I failed for other reasons? Stream was flv1 or h264. - With the help of vlc I have successfully streamed a webcam to a flash player. VLC can handle http request and generate fake infinite flv files. I couldn't do the save with h264 format (problems generating the video ). Doubt: all my succeeded h264 tests was made streaming an entire file: from the beginning to the end. Am I now failing because it's not possibile to "join" a previous started h264 stream and I must send some special header to make the flash player happy? If yes: can I do that with the ffmpeg API ? Or.. if this is a stupid question... where can I read something to understand? Tnx for the attention. Mario

Multi-threaded Motion Jpeg (mjpeg) transcoding
by john.reeves＠mailc.net 26 Feb '08

26 Feb '08

Hi There, Our site uses Motion Jpeg (aka Photo Jpeg from Quicktime) as our archive codec as it's quick to output from Final Cut. I have noticed that FFMpeg is unable to thread the input file when working with mjpeg and as a result we are not seeing full CPU utilisation (going from 2 to 4 threads yields no benefit). Is anyone aware of a threaded mjpeg input filter, or, does anyone have a recommendation for an archive codec (compression speed is more important than filesize) which we will be able to use with Final Cut Pro? Thanks John.

Compiling imlib2.so
by john.reeves＠mailc.net 26 Feb '08

26 Feb '08

Apologies if this has been asked before: I am trying to compile imlib2.so in order to use it as a vhook with ffmpeg. My /usr/local/lib/vhook directory only contains: fish.so null.so ppm.so watermark.so All of which work fine when used with ffmpeg's -vhook switch. At first I presumed it was because I did not have imlib2 installed on the system, however it is part of the CentOS 5 base install: Installed Packages Name : imlib2 Arch : i386 Version: 1.4.0 Release: 1.el5.rf Size : 2.0 M Repo : installed Below are the ./configure options that I used - if someone could point me in the right direction I would be really greatful. Problem with DV decode: "AC EOB marker is absent"
by dave＠evlax.com 26 Feb '08

26 Feb '08

I get similar behavior to a bug reported before with the DV codec reporting "AC EOB marker is absent." I am running 64-bit Ubuntu Gutsy. I downloaded the software from SVN on Feb 26, 2008 GMT. Here is the output of that checkout: ****** dave at dave-desktop1:/data/film$ svn checkout svn://svn.mplayerhq.hu/ffmpeg/trunk ffmpeg Fetching external item into 'ffmpeg/libswscale' Checked out external at revision 26104. Checked out revision 12227. ****** The source file is created on a MAC using Final Cut Pro. It is Quicktime using the DVVideo codec. This happens with all files created this way. Here's a link to an example of my film: http://www.evlax.com/pages/BrianCox.mov When I try to watch it on VLC, I get a bunch of blocks and can barely make out the picture. When I try to run it through ffmpeg, this is what I get: ********** FFmpeg version SVN-r7231, Copyright (c) 2000-2006 Fabrice Bellard, et al. configuration: --prefix=/usr --mandir=${prefix}/share/man --enable-gpl --enable-pp --enable-pthreads --enable-vorbis --enable-faac --enable-libogg --enable-a52 --enable-dts --enable-libgsm --disable-debug --enable-mp3lame --enable-faad libavutil version: 49.1.0 libavcodec version: 51.25.0 libavformat version: 51.6.0 built on May 4 2007 15:46:52, gcc: 3.3.5 (Debian 1:3.3.5-13) AC EOB marker is absent pos=64 AC EOB marker is absent pos=72 AC EOB marker is absent pos=67 . . . editing flv's the best way
by info＠webthatch.co.uk 26 Feb '08

26 Feb '08

Hi everyone. I have today started with ffmpeg and find it very good and quick at what it does. I have a project where I need to edit bits of existing flv's. This involves taking off the beginning and end of the existing, general cropping really. I would like to know what you would consider the best way to achieve this please. I am currently ffmpegging to an avi then using blazemedia to crop and then recompiling to flv. What is the best way to get back to as near the original quality as I had before? This is however creating flv's almost twice the size and with a loss of quality. The original flv's use vp6f but my version of ffmpeg does not allow me to encode again with that codec. Some idea of the best codecs and file formats would be great, as it would appear that my new flv's are about twice the original file size. I look forward to hearing back if anyone can help. Cheers.
