Use of sc_threshold in ffmpeg
by asiyakhan05＠yahoo.co.uk 25 Feb '08

25 Feb '08

Dear all, I am trying to detect motion in raw video (e.g. slow motion of news videos to fast moving sports) using ffmpeg. I wanted to know how to specify the sc_threshold and me - motion estimation. Is there a mechanism in ffmpeg that will detect movement at encoding stage? Any help will be deeply appreciated. Thanks. --------------------------------- Rise to the challenge for Sport Relief with Yahoo! for Good

Help to set up filter chain?
by andycivil＠gmail.com 24 Feb '08

24 Feb '08

Hello helpful people. Baptiste gave me a nice tip, the existence of yadif. I'm trying to see if I can solve my problem by making an mjpeg file at 60000/1001 fps from my interlaced source. Referencing this page: http://avisynth.org.ru/yadif/yadif.html tells me that I want mode=1. How do I ask for this, is it just -vf yadif=1 ??? Most of the help I find on the net seems to be for avisynth. It's not working for me. Here's my command line: \me\mencoder -oac copy -ovc lavc -of mpeg -vf yadif=1,scale=720:480 -lavcopts vcodec=mjpeg:vbitrate=10000000:aspect=16/9 -ofps 60000/1001 -o mjpeg.mpg 20080213133737.m2t I want to deinterlace (well, not exactly) to double the frame rate, and then scale that to 720x480. I don't really care about file size (within reason), since this is an intermediate step. My concern is to conserve quality. Can anyone see what I've done wrong? Here's my output, please snip before answering. Several of the lines look like real errors! Why does it ask me to APPEND the scale filter, when it's already last in the chain??? Why is it telling me that "The selected video_out device is incompatible with this codec." - should I be using a different file extension (container)? I get exactly the same error if I use .avi. I:\Plan Sony ME>\me\mencoder -oac copy -ovc lavc -of mpeg -vf yadif=1,scale=720: 480 -lavcopts vcodec=mjpeg:vbitrate=10000000:aspect=16/9 -ofps 60000/1001 -o mjp eg.mpg 20080213133737.m2t MEncoder Sherpya-SVN-r25962-4.2.3 (C) 2000-2008 MPlayer Team CPU: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.40GHz (Family: 15, Model: 2, Stepping: 7) CPUflags: Type: 15 MMX: 1 MMX2: 1 3DNow: 0 3DNow2: 0 SSE: 1 SSE2: 1 Compiled with runtime CPU detection. success: format: 0 data: 0x0 - 0x41db004 TS file format detected. Adding comments / tags to ogg files?
by andrew.david.45＠gmail.com 24 Feb '08

24 Feb '08

Hi, I am converting some .wav files to .ogg as follows: $ ffmpeg -i input.wav -acodec vorbis -aq 80 output.ogg and I was temporarily excited to see the following options: -title string set the title -timestamp time set the timestamp -author string set the author -copyright string set the copyright -comment string set the comment -genre string set the genre -album string set the album but these appear to have no effect in ogg files? Is there a method to set tags / comments to ogg files with ffmpeg? I am running ffmpeg as follows: andrew at ilium~$ ffmpeg FFmpeg version SVN-r12181, Copyright (c) 2000-2008 Fabrice Bellard, et al. configuration: --prefix=/usr --mandir=/usr/man --disable-debug --enable-shared --disable-static --enable-pthreads --enable-gpl --enable-libtheora --enable-libvorbis --enable-pp --enable-swscaler --enable-x11grab --enable-libmp3lame --enable-libfaac --enable-libfaad --enable-libxvid --enable-liba52 --enable-libx264 --enable-libamr-nb --enable-libamr-wb --enable-nonfree libavutil version: 49.6.0 libavcodec version: 51.50.1 libavformat version: 52.7.0 libavdevice version: 52.0.0 built on Feb 24 2008 11:12:48, gcc: 4.1.2 Thanks for your trouble, Andrew -- http://www.andrews-corner.org

Can't make DV-video "Field A" (tff)?
by andycivil＠gmail.com 24 Feb '08

24 Feb '08

Hi I'm still trying to make a DV file from my HD camcorder. FFMPEG won't scale interlaced content, so I switched to MEncoder. However, MEncoder seems to have a bug that prevents creating ntsc-dv, so I am considering a two-step process, scaling in MEncoder, and converting to DV in FFMPEG. However, the result is always field reversed when processed with my movie editor (ULEAD). After days of messing with "top=x" options, I have come to the following startling conclusion: FFMPEG will only create a dv-video with Field B, no matter top={0|1|-1|} ULEAD assumes dvvideo is Field A - "Media Source Options" has the choice greyed. I'm thinking of ditching dv completely, and learning how to make MEncoder use all I-frames as an alternative to DV, but does anyone have any better suggestions? (I found a long time ago that the ULEAD software worked slowly and erroneously when given a regular MPEG source, I assume it's because of the P and B frames). Oh, and here's one example ffmpeg command - but I've tried many, many others culled from the Internet, with exactly the same result.. \ffmpeg_stuff\ffmpeg.exe -i me_test1.mpg -acodec pcm_s16le -ac 2 -ar 48000 -vcodec dvvideo -ilme -ildct -flags +ilme+ildct -flags +alt -top 1 -s 720x480 -r ntsc -pix_fmt yuv411p -y test_mecoder_ffmpeg.avi Thanks -- Andy

Incorrect frame rate after using a vcopy into an mp4 container?
by greg＠eutechnyx.com 24 Feb '08

24 Feb '08

Trying to make an .mp4 file, from a h264 stream and an aac stream, at 23.97 fps... ffmpeg -y -f h264 -i "input.h264" -f aac -i "input.aac" -vcodec copy -r 23.97 -acodec copy -f mp4 "output.mp4" It all seems to work smoothly, except when I inspect it afterwards its always set to 25 fps? Am I missing something here? A possible bug? Just as a note, I can use MP4Box and get the correct framerate .mp4 file, so the input streams seem to be ok... MP4Box -new -add "input.h264" -add "input.aac" -fps 23.97 "output.mp4" Any help would be good, I'm trying to use ffmpeg only as it means I only need 1 app for my video convert script.
