.m4a to .flv - image/video fails

Hi all, I have greatly appreciated the information I have already gleaned from reading this forum. However I still can not solve my current problem. I am trying to convert from .m4a to .flv. These are podcast files (.m4a) built in garage band. Pictures were added as well and we would like to use this format to create weekly announcements because Garage Band is so easy for our non-technically oriented staff. Using ffmpeg the audio converts just fine but the "video" is not right. I guess it's because these files include chapter data not actual video. However when I convert it to any format the images fly through at different rates, then it seems to get stuck on a picture in the middle. The format I would like to convert to is flash so that I can easy display multiple announcement files using a flash player. I can convert .mov to .flv no problem. Converting .m4a to .mov and then .flv doesn't produce any better results. I have been so desperate to get this particular file type to convert that I have been experimenting with grabbing the frames every 5 secs. and then rebuilding the images into video. Compiling ffmpeg with extra libs without root access

Hi I am trying to compile ffmpeg but I don't have root privilige on the machine. I've compiled using --prefix when configuring - but the problem is that I need to use lameMp3 encoder and libamr-wb and libamr- nb. These I have installed and placed in my home dir - but how do I make sure that ffmpeg looks there when compiling. This is my problem - how do I tell ffmpeg explicitly where to look for extra libs? resize and imlib2 vhook in one command ?

hi, i would like to resize video and overlay with image. when i resize video, e.g. from 624x352 to 320x240, and use imlib2 vhook in one line, i get 320x240 video with small picture in the corner: ffmpeg -i infile.avi -cropright 52 -cropleft 52 -s 320x240 -aspect 1.333 -vhook './imlib2.so -x 0 -y 0 -i image.png' outfile.avi i know that options for imlib2 are -x -y for coordinates, and i would like to know how to use """ Expressions are functions of these variables: N frame number (starting at zero) H frame height W frame width h image height w image width X previous x coordinate of text or image Y previous y coordinate of text or image """ precisely, how do i tell to the image to keep the same size ? do i have to use two commands ? like in first command resize video, and in second use vhook ? thanks Co.De. --

ratecontrol methods not working with x264

I did some testing, and at least with CRF, rate control seems to work for a good first 10-15 frames, and then begins going haywire. You can see q=max_q constantly, and the average bit rate drops quickly. -b seemed to work with a value of 10000k, I tried 2000k and 4000k too and both didn't seem to work. --James O'Leary

Unknown codec 'libx264'

I'm running an x86_64 ubuntu. I've used apt-get to install ffmpeg, I've used the instructions here to build ffmpeg from scratch: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=325963 There where no build errors, the libx264-dev package is installed as well as the x264 encoder, but still nothing. I've googled for quite a while and there are very few examples of people either having this problem or any solutions for it. There are quite a few examples of it's use, however, which leads me to believe that it's a fairly strait forward installation. So, how do I get ffmpeg with libx264 support? Thanks, j

Need some advice

Hi folks, I need a containerformat for all kinds of A/V formats. Mainly mpeg2, mpeg4, AVC and uncompressed in different sizes. My goal is to capture all this in a single file without any conversion. Think of some cameras in an environment that traces an animal. The animal activates a camera on his way and I record the output. I also need a reliable time-stamping or index for the file. I want to watch during capturing and jumping back and forth or jump to a particular time. Something like the time-shift function of my tv. I've thought of mpeg-ts maybe with an external index file. Or are there some better suited containers? Thanks Chris

compiling ffmpeg

Hi everyone I'm having problems compiling ffmpeg. I tried to follow the guide here: http://stephenjungels.com/jungels.net/articles/ffmpeg-howto.html I've make'd the faac, faad and lame libraries I'm at the step of configuring ffmpeg using this command: "./configure --enable-libmp3lame --disable-vhook --enable-shared --disable-mmx --enable-libfaac --enable-libfaad --enable-gpl" This is the result I get: ERROR: LAME not found If you think configure made a mistake, make sure you are using the latest version from SVN. If the latest version fails, report the problem to the ffmpeg-user at mplayerhq.hu mailing list or IRC #ffmpeg on irc.freenode.net. Include the log file "config.err" produced by configure as this will help solving the problem. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

Is there a "-target PAL-IPOD" or "-target NTSC-IPOD" switch ? I lost my settings to convert to Ipod Classic mp4 ... any suggestions on the latest settings if the "-target" isn't in place ?

grab a specific frame and save uncompressed

Hi all, I'm looking for a way to grab a specific frame number with ffmpeg. Now I'm using ffmpeg -y -i mallard.mp4 -ss 00:00:07.500 -vframes 1 -an test%d.jpg But the resulting jpg is compressed, is there a way to have it lossless? Besides I'm not sure I'm getting the frame I want, is there a way to specify the exact frame number? Will I have the closest I frame or the exact frame I required? Thanks in advance Bye
