ffmpeg encoding corrupt AAC
by rectalogic＠rectalogic.com 01 Aug '08

01 Aug '08

I'm having problems where ffmpeg seems to be encoding corrupt AAC using libfaac with some inputs. This AAC audio sample: http://www.rectalogic.com/video/aac_sample.mp4 transcodes to pcm_s16le wav using ffmpeg without issue, the resulting wav sounds fine. However if I then transcode this pcm wav to AAC/mp4 (or raw AAC) using ffmpeg, the result plays back terribly - lots of static and sound cutting out. Playing with ffplay, faad reports lots of bitstream errors. If I force ffmpeg to resample when transcoding to AAC (e.g. change # channels with -ac or samplerate with -ar), then the resulting AAC plays fine. I also tried transcoding the source to pcm_s16be/mov which also sounded fine, then transcoded that to AAC and it had similar problems. If I transcode the source AAC to pcm_s16le/wav and force it to mono, then transcoding that resulting wav to AAC results in a working AAC. Anyone seen this before or have some idea where the root problem might lie? ffmpeg/ffplay output for the various steps below: # Transcode AAC sample to pcm_s16le - result is fine $ ffmpeg -i aac_sample.mp4 -acodec pcm_s16le ffmpeg_pcm_s16le.wav FFmpeg version git-96111d9, Copyright (c) 2000-2008 Fabrice Bellard, et al. configuration: --prefix=/Users/aw/Projects/motionbox/encoder/foundation/installed --extra-cflags=-I/Users/aw/Projects/motionbox/encoder/foundation/installed/include --extra-ldflags=-L/Users/aw/Projects/motionbox/encoder/foundation/installed/lib --cpu=pentium-m --disable-ffserver --disable-network --disable-shared --disable-vhook --enable-avfilter --enable-gpl --enable-hardcoded-tables --enable-liba52 --enable-libamr-nb --enable-libamr-wb --enable-libdirac --enable-libfaac --enable-libfaad --enable-libgsm --enable-libmp3lame --enable-libschroedinger --enable-libtheora --enable-libvorbis --enable-libx264 --enable-libxvid --enable-nonfree --enable-postproc --enable-pthreads --enable-static --enable-swscale --enable-debug=gdb3 libavutil version: 49.7.0 libavcodec version: 51.61.0 libavformat version: 52.18.0 libavdevice version: 52.0.0 libavfilter version: 0.0.0 built on Jul 27 2008 20:30:45, gcc: 4.0.1 (Apple Inc. build 5484) Input #0, mov,mp4,m4a,3gp,3g2,mj2, from 'aac_sample.mp4': Duration: 00:04:47.46, start: 0.000000, bitrate: 130 kb/s Stream #0.0(eng): Audio: libfaad, 44100 Hz, stereo Output #0, wav, to 'ffmpeg_pcm_s16le.wav': Stream #0.0(eng): Audio: pcm_s16le, 44100 Hz, stereo, 1411 kb/s Stream mapping: Stream #0.0 -> #0.0 Press [q] to stop encoding size= 49516kB time=287.44 bitrate=1411.2kbits/s video:0kB audio:49516kB global headers:0kB muxing overhead 0.000087% # Transcode pcm_s16le back to AAC - result has problems $ ffmpeg -i ffmpeg_pcm_s16le.wav -acodec libfaac ffmpeg_libfaac.mp4 FFmpeg version git-96111d9, Copyright (c) 2000-2008 Fabrice Bellard, et al. configuration: --prefix=/Users/aw/Projects/motionbox/encoder/foundation/installed --extra-cflags=-I/Users/aw/Projects/motionbox/encoder/foundation/installed/include --extra-ldflags=-L/Users/aw/Projects/motionbox/encoder/foundation/installed/lib --cpu=pentium-m --disable-ffserver --disable-network --disable-shared --disable-vhook --enable-avfilter --enable-gpl --enable-hardcoded-tables --enable-liba52 --enable-libamr-nb --enable-libamr-wb --enable-libdirac --enable-libfaac --enable-libfaad --enable-libgsm --enable-libmp3lame --enable-libschroedinger --enable-libtheora --enable-libvorbis --enable-libx264 --enable-libxvid --enable-nonfree --enable-postproc --enable-pthreads --enable-static --enable-swscale --enable-debug=gdb3 libavutil version: 49.7.0 libavcodec version: 51.61.0 libavformat version: 52.18.0 libavdevice version: 52.0.0 libavfilter version: 0.0.0 built on Jul 27 2008 20:30:45, gcc: 4.0.1 (Apple Inc. build 5484) Input #0, wav, from 'ffmpeg_pcm_s16le.wav': Duration: 00:04:47.44, bitrate: 1411 kb/s Stream #0.0: Audio: pcm_s16le, 44100 Hz, stereo, 1411 kb/s Output #0, mp4, to 'ffmpeg_libfaac.mp4': Stream #0.0: Audio: libfaac, 44100 Hz, stereo, 64 kb/s Stream mapping: Stream #0.0 -> #0.0 Press [q] to stop encoding size= 2342kB time=287.37 bitrate= 66.8kbits/s video:0kB audio:2245kB global headers:0kB muxing overhead 4.332105% # Play back transcoded AAC - decoding problems $ ffplay ffmpeg_libfaac.mp4 FFplay version git-96111d9, Copyright (c) 2003-2008 Fabrice Bellard, et al. configuration: --prefix=/Users/aw/Projects/motionbox/encoder/foundation/installed --extra-cflags=-I/Users/aw/Projects/motionbox/encoder/foundation/installed/include --extra-ldflags=-L/Users/aw/Projects/motionbox/encoder/foundation/installed/lib --cpu=pentium-m --disable-ffserver --disable-network --disable-shared --disable-vhook --enable-avfilter --enable-gpl --enable-hardcoded-tables --enable-liba52 --enable-libamr-nb --enable-libamr-wb --enable-libdirac --enable-libfaac --enable-libfaad --enable-libgsm --enable-libmp3lame --enable-libschroedinger --enable-libtheora --enable-libvorbis --enable-libx264 --enable-libxvid --enable-nonfree --enable-postproc --enable-pthreads --enable-static --enable-swscale --enable-debug=gdb3 libavutil version: 49.7.0 libavcodec version: 51.61.0 libavformat version: 52.18.0 libavdevice version: 52.0.0 libavfilter version: 0.0.0 built on Jul 27 2008 20:30:45, gcc: 4.0.1 (Apple Inc. build 5484) 2008-07-28 11:35:11.703 ffplay[451:10b] Warning once: This application, or a library it uses, is using NSQuickDrawView, which has been deprecated. Animated GIF input always results in blank (0fps) video output
by abovetheruins＠gmail.com 31 Jul '08

31 Jul '08

Hi all, I have several animated GIFs which I am trying to convert to videos. All of them play fine in my browser (firefox), and in all image viewing programs I've tried. They all differ in the number of frames and in the frame rate (that is, delay per frame). However, for all of them - * FFPLAY shows only the first frame (a still picture) * FFMPEG generates video files with 1 frame only, and says "0fps". Any options I try (file format, bitrate, codec) don't seem to matter. Example command lines and results (although, as said above, I've tried many different options, the key problem remains the same): === 1 === C:\video tools\ffmpeg\bin>ffmpeg.exe -i 230-seinfeld.gif -re -b 1000k 230-seinfeld.mpeg FFmpeg version SVN-r11213, Copyright (c) 2000-2007 Fabrice Bellard, et al. configuration: --enable-memalign-hack --enable-libamr-nb -- enable-libamr-wb --enable-libfaac --enable-libfaad --enable-libgsm - -enable-libmp3lame --enable-libvorbis --enable-libtheora --enable- liba52 --enable-libx264 --enable-libxvid --enable-swscaler --enable- gpl --enable-avisynth --cpu=i686 --enable-pthreads --enable-shared - -disable-static libavutil version: 49.6.0 libavcodec version: 51.49.0 libavformat version: 52.2.0 built on Dec 13 2007 21:42:07, gcc: 4.2.1-sjlj (mingw32-2) Input #0, image2, from '230-seinfeld.gif': Duration: 00:00:00.0, start: 0.000000, bitrate: N/A Stream #0.0: Video: gif, pal8, 240x180 [PAR 0:1 DAR 0:1], 25.00 tb(r) Output #0, mpeg, to '230-seinfeld.mpeg': Stream #0.0: Video: mpeg1video, yuv420p, 240x180 [PAR 0:1 DAR 0:1], q=2-31, 1000 kb/s, 25.00 tb(c) Stream mapping: Stream #0.0 -> #0.0 Press [q] to stop encoding frame= 1 fps= 0 q=3.4 Lsize= 12kB time=10000000000.0 bitrate= 0.0kbits/s video:11kB audio:0kB global headers:0kB muxing overhead 11.324515% === (end) === Any help would be absolutely appreciated. Hi There, just tried building the latest trunk of ffmpeg and x264, and have come across some trouble with the ratecontrol command supposedly not being set, however I seem to have the bitrates etc set? This is a specific command that supposedly is correct for ipod video. This is my first attempt at joining this list, and also at compiling from source, so if I have made a simple mistake feel free to let me know.. This is a specific command that supposedly is correct for ipod video. ffmpeg -i "files/uploads/media_mover/ftp_files/148_Stillness_is_the_right_state_to_be_ in.flv" -acodec libfaac -ab 128k -s 320x240 -vcodec libx264 -b 200k -flags +loop -cmp +chroma -partitions +parti4x4+partp8x8+partb8x8 -me umh -subq 5 -trellis 1 -refs 1 -coder 0 -me_range 16 -g 300 -keyint_min 25 -sc_threshold 40 -i_qfactor 0.71 -bt 200k -maxrate 10M -bufsize 10M -rc_eq 'blurCplx^(1-qComp)' -qcomp 0.6 -qmin 10 -qmax 51 -qdiff 4 -level 30 -aspect 4:3 "files/uploads/media_mover/ffmpeg/converted/37/148_Stillness_is_the_right_st ate_to_be_in.flv.mp4" FFmpeg version SVN-r14475, Copyright (c) 2000-2008 Fabrice Bellard, et al. configuration: --enable-gpl --enable-postproc --enable-nonfree --enable-postproc --enable-libfaad --enable-avfilter --enable-pthreads --enable-libxvid --enable-libx264 --enable-libmp3lame --enable-liba52 --enable-libfaac --disable-ffserver --disable-ffplay --enable-libtheora --enable-libvorbis --enable-shared libavutil version: 49.7.0 libavcodec version: 51.62.0 libavformat version: 52.18.0 libavdevice version: 52.0.0 libavfilter version: 0.0.0 built on Jul 30 2008 10:48:44, gcc: 4.1.2 20071124 (Red Hat 4.1.2-42) Seems stream 0 codec frame rate differs from container frame rate: 1000.00 (1000/1) -> 25.00 (25/1) Input #0, flv, from 'files/uploads/media_mover/ftp_files/148_Stillness_is_the_right_state_to_be_ in.flv': Duration: 00:03:30.88, start: 0.000000, bitrate: 64 kb/s Stream #0.0: Video: flv, yuv420p, 320x240, 25.00 tb(r) Stream #0.1: Audio: mp3, 22050 Hz, mono, 64 kb/s File 'files/uploads/media_mover/ffmpeg/converted/37/148_Stillness_is_the_right_st ate_to_be_in.flv.mp4' already exists. int ff_rle_encode(uint8_t *outbuf, int out_size, const uint8_t *ptr , int bpp, int w, int add_rep, int xor_rep, int add_raw, int xor_raw) { ... /* fall back on uncompressed */ count = count_pixels(ptr, w-x, bpp, 0); *out++ = (count ^ xor_raw) + add_raw; if(out + bpp*count > outbuf + out_size) return -1; memcpy(out, ptr, bpp * count); out += bpp * count; ... the line if(out + bpp*count > outbuf + out_size) return -1; nicely handle out_size, however the line *just* before is also doing a write access (single byte), thus : /* fall back on uncompressed */ count = count_pixels(ptr, w-x, bpp, 0); if(out +1 > outbuf + out_size) return -1; // ADDED HERE *out++ = (count ^ xor_raw) + add_raw; if(out + bpp*count > outbuf + out_size) return -1; memcpy(out, ptr, bpp * count); out += bpp * count; Thanks, -- Mathieu

Hi all I have this problem and right now I wasn't able to solve it... I need to decode two or mode stream from rtsp streaming camera. I was able to see stream with mencoder, mplayer and also with ffmpeg.. in particular this is my command line: ffmpeg -an -i rtsp://192.168.0.20/video2 -f rawvideo -o - | vpipe -i 0 -w 320 -h 240 -f yuv How you can see i get stream and pipe through vpipe to a video device (vpipe uses vloopback)..but this is not my problem. In fact when I use just *one* of this command everything OK, but when I try to use another one from another camera I get this error by ffmpeg bind: Address already in use I googled and i find a know problem of rtp protocol with udp localport and a patch submitted that increment by one localport every stream ffmpeg try to open...obviously this patch doesn't work. There's a solution to my problem? Thanks. Vincenzo De Naro Papa
