Looking to Create an mp4 from a jpg and an mp3
by jonathan.swinghammer＠gmail.com 30 Jul '08

Hi, I'm trying to create an mp4 from a jpg and an mp3 and while the conversion appears to work fine, the result isn't exactly what I was hoping for. What I get is a file that has the jpg image on the first frame and after i start playing the movie back the jpg disappears. I'm hoping to have the jpg appear the whole time the mp3 is playing. Is this possible with ffmpeg? Thanks! Jon Swinghammer

HI I am new to ubuntu (linux environment) I am trying to build openmovieeditor on my machine so far every thing worked out well until I do the final build of openmovieeditor , get this error , ffmpeg/swscale.h no such file or directory. I build ffmpeg with the following options ./configure -prefix=/usr -enable-gpl -enable-shared -enable-swscale -enable-postproc Did the make , did the sudo make install The swscale.h file do lies in the /usr/include/libswscale/ directory , but it looks like openmovieeditor wants it in a ffmpeg/ directory somewhere. Can somebody please give some advice on how to fix this. Thanks Theuns heydenrych

HI Thanks for the quick response , I did try that at first but it looks like not everything is installed , when I open the movie editor it looks like stuff is missing , it does look like on the screen shots on the open movie editor site. It does however say the ubuntu is the recommended linux distro , and it also states that . some distros don't have al the latest packages , and that you can get the latest version by building it from source.(paragraph just above ubuntu logo) http://www.openmovieeditor.org/download.html -----Original Message----- From: ffmpeg-user-bounces at mplayerhq.hu [mailto:ffmpeg-user-bounces at mplayerhq.hu] On Behalf Of Florian Preinstorfer Sent: Wednesday, July 30, 2008 3:28 PM To: FFmpeg user questions and RTFMs Subject: Re: [FFmpeg-user] ffmpeg/swscale.h no such file[Scanned] is there any reason for not using the ubuntu packages? http://packages.ubuntu.com/search?keywords=openmovieeditor&searchon=names&s… Regards Flo -------- Original-Nachricht -------- > Datum: Wed, 30 Jul 2008 15:25:46 +0200 > Von: "Theuns Heydenrych" <theuns.Heydenrych at za.saabgroup.com> > An: ffmpeg-user at mplayerhq.hu > Betreff: [FFmpeg-user] ffmpeg/swscale.h no such file > HI > > I am new to ubuntu (linux environment) > > > > I am trying to build openmovieeditor on my machine so far every thing > worked out well until I do the final build of openmovieeditor , get this > error , ffmpeg/swscale.h no such file or directory. > > I build ffmpeg with the following options > > ./configure -prefix=/usr -enable-gpl -enable-shared -enable-swscale > -enable-postproc > > Did the make , did the sudo make install > > > > The swscale.h file do lies in the /usr/include/libswscale/ directory , > but it looks like openmovieeditor wants it in a ffmpeg/ directory > somewhere. > > > > Can somebody please give some advice on how to fix this. > > > > Thanks > > Theuns heydenrych > > > > _______________________________________________ > ffmpeg-user mailing list > ffmpeg-user at mplayerhq.hu > https://lists.mplayerhq.hu/mailman/listinfo/ffmpeg-user -- GMX Kostenlose Spiele: Einfach online spielen und Spa? haben mit Pastry Passion! http://games.entertainment.gmx.net/de/entertainment/games/free/puzzle/61691… _______________________________________________ ffmpeg-user mailing list ffmpeg-user at mplayerhq.hu https://lists.mplayerhq.hu/mailman/listinfo/ffmpeg-user

manual translation question
by qazav3.0＠gmail.com 30 Jul '08

30 Jul '08

Hi there, this is my first post on this list =) I write because once I had done a translation to brazilian portuguese of the ffmpeg manual (that can be seen here, in my site: http://szaszak.wordpress.com/linux/ or here, online where I originally published it: http://estudiolivre.org/tiki-index.php?page=manual+do+FFMPEG&bl) You'll notice that I have translated other official documentarion (DVDStyler, Jahshaka, transcode, etc) and am the translator/mantainer of the extensive Cinelerra Manual in portuguese. Well, I'd like to sort of "officialize" this translation, by that meaning that I'll update it and keep it being updated, as happens with Cinelerra. Who can I talk to and how can I procceed? congratulations for your work, thanks, flavio

Gentoo emerge fails
by maarten140681boos＠yahoo.com 30 Jul '08

Hi I used typescript to log the entire emerge (as I corrected earlier, there was no actual emerge error, just a lot of weirdness during the emerge). I uploaded the typescript file here: https://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=batch_download&batch_id=Q01HQ… This should prove very helpful. --- On Mon, 7/28/08, David Alanis <canito at dalan.us> wrote: > From: David Alanis <canito at dalan.us> > Subject: Re: [FFmpeg-user] Gentoo emerge fails > To: maarten140681boos at yahoo.com > Date: Monday, July 28, 2008, 7:54 PM > Maarten, > > This isn't what you need to post. Solved: Cross compile issue on Darwin / MacOSX
by from_ffmpeg＠frear.com 30 Jul '08

30 Jul '08

Hi all, I have two macs, one is a powerpc G4 and runs macos 10.4.11 (uname -r says 8.11.0) and the other is an i386 and runs macos 10.5.4 (uname -r reports 9.4.0). The macos 10.5 system has apple-gcc 4.0.1 on it, the macos 10.4 system does not have a compiler. I'm writing to report what I did to cross compile ffmpeg SVN-r14473 for the macos 10.4 system. First, here's the results of ffmpeg -version from my newly built binary: $ ffmpeg -version FFmpeg version SVN-r14473, Copyright (c) 2000-2008 Fabrice Bellard, et al. configuration: --enable-gpl libavutil version: 49.7.0 libavcodec version: 51.62.0 libavformat version: 52.18.0 libavdevice version: 52.0.0 built on Jul 29 2008 21:39:51, gcc: 4.0.1 (Apple Inc. build 5465) FFmpeg SVN-r14473 libavutil 3213056 libavcodec 3358208 libavformat 3412480 libavdevice 3407872 I first attempted running configure with the arguments --arch=ppc --cpu=7400 --enable-cross-compile and this resulted in a failure stating: gcc is unable to create an executable file. C compiler test failed. If you think configure made a mistake, make sure you are using the latest version from SVN. If the latest version fails, report the problem to the ffmpeg-user at mplayerhq.hu mailing list or IRC #ffmpeg on irc.freenode.net. Include the log file "config.err" produced by configure as this will help solving the problem. I ultimately decided the only way to get past this problem was to defeat configure's compiler test. Here's a patch for my modification: --- configure.orig 2008-07-29 21:02:13.000000000 -0500 +++ configure 2008-07-29 21:17:40.000000000 -0500 @@ -1495,12 +1495,12 @@ int main(void){ return 0; } EOF if test "$?" != 0; then - echo "$cc is unable to create an executable file." + echo "WARNING: $cc is unable to create an executable file." if test -z "$cross_prefix" && ! enabled cross_compile ; then echo "If $cc is a cross-compiler, use the --enable-cross-compile option." echo "Only do this if you know what cross compiling means." fi - die "C compiler test failed." + #die "C compiler test failed." fi check_cc <<EOF || die "Symbol mangling check failed." I ultimately settled on the following options for ./configure: ./configure --enable-gpl --arch=ppc --cpu=7400 --enable-cross-compile --extra-cflags='-arch ppc -mcpu=7400 -mmacosx-version-min=10.4 -DHAVE_LLRINT -DHAVE_LRINT -DHAVE_LRINTF -DHAVE_ROUND -DHAVE_ROUNDF' The --enable-gpl option is not needed at all for the cross compiling issue and is just one of my build preferences. I have ppc and 7400 declared twice although slightly differently. The single dash versions in the --extra-cflags option are given directly to gcc and are needed to cause tests in configure other than the one shown above to complete. The double dash versions cause configure to turn on useful optimizations for the target platform such as altivec support. (My first successful build was without altivec or gfxopt support - that makes a significant difference in ffmpeg's runtime!) Also, there are some interesting defines at the end of the extra_cflags option line. I was having problems when compiling the first .c file gcc encountered: gcc reported libavutil/internal.h had 5 incompatibile staticly typed definitions for the functions llrint, lrint, lrintf, round, and roundf. It became clear that HAVE_LLRINT, etc, were not being defined but should have been since those functions are provided on this platform, so I forced them to be defined and that was fixed. I also ran into a compile problem with libavcodec/utils.c, the compiler complained about O_BINARY not being defined. Here is a patch for my modification to that file: --- libavcodec/utils.c.orig 2008-07-29 21:01:59.000000000 -0500 +++ libavcodec/utils.c 2008-07-29 22:12:00.000000000 -0500 @@ -1364,7 +1364,11 @@ return -1; } #if !defined(HAVE_MKSTEMP) +#if defined(__DARWIN_UNIX03) + fd = open(*filename, O_RDWR | O_CREAT, 0444); +#else fd = open(*filename, O_RDWR | O_BINARY | O_CREAT, 0444); +#endif #else snprintf(*filename, len, "/tmp/%sXXXXXX", prefix); fd = mkstemp(*filename); Hmm, on second thought I think I shouldn't have modified this source file but should have instead added -DHAVE_MKSTEMP to my extra-cflags argument, because this OS does provide mkstemp(). At this point, make would run to near-completion. It still bombed out at the very end of the compile, for example reporting: cc -L"/Users/me/ffmpeg"/libavdevice -L"/Users/me/ffmpeg"/libavformat -L"/Users/me/ffmpeg"/libavcodec -L"/Users/me/ffmpeg"/libavutil -Wl,-dynamic,-search_paths_first -o ffmpeg_g ffmpeg.o cmdutils.o -lavdevice -lavformat -lavcodec -lavutil ld: warning in ffmpeg.o, file is not of required architecture ld: warning in cmdutils.o, file is not of required architecture ld: warning in /Users/me/ffmpeg/libavdevice/libavdevice.a, file is not of required architecture ld: warning in /Users/me/ffmpeg/libavformat/libavformat.a, file is not of required architecture ld: warning in /Users/me/ffmpeg/libavcodec/libavcodec.a, file is not of required architecture ld: warning in /Users/me/ffmpeg/libavutil/libavutil.a, file is not of required architecture Undefined symbols: "_main", referenced from: start in crt1.10.5.o ld: symbol(s) not found collect2: ld returned 1 exit status make: *** [ffmpeg_g] Error 1 and rather than actually solving this problem I would simply manually run the command shown above and prepend the options -arch ppc -mcpu=7400 -mmacosx-version-min=10.4. This would let that gcc command complete, then I ran make again and it stripped the ffmpeg_g binary and this error & resolution was repeated for ffserver_g. To summarize, I think the cross-compile process needs some minor tweaking - it shouldn't expect to be able to build a working binary on the compile platform, and for some reason its incorrectly deciding that a number of basic functions are not being provided. I hope this email can help out the developers and users of ffmpeg. Thanks for providing this excellent software!! - John

Maarten, This isn't what you need to post. When you receive an emerge 'fail error' that is what you need to paste. What you posted below doesn't give me any information. I believe the error would be in /var/log/emerge.log < I need to see the exact same emerge error you see when it fails. All, well most of the emerge errors, will be posted in the gentoo forum for your help. Let me know if you need more help. I edited my English so it would make more sense. Also, please always respond to the list in case others have the same issue can also know of all the steps is a fix is found.
