named pipes - > x264

Hi, I was following these instructions to do a named pipe to x264 http://ffmpeg.x264.googlepages.com/piping mkfifo fifo.y4m ffmpeg -i test.mp4 -an -f yuv4mpegpipe - > fifo.y4m & x264 --quiet --crf 18 -o video.264 fifo.y4m For some reason, ffmpeg just sits here Stream mapping: Stream #0.1 -> #0.0 Press [q] to stop encoding It doesn't do any processing of test.mp4 and basically sits as a blank console. If I do something like ffmpeg -i test.mp4 -an -f yuv4mpegpipe - > test.y4m & Where test.y4m is not a named pipe, then test.y4m will end up being the yuv4 data... So I guess my question is, is there some extra option I need to compile ffmpeg or x264 with? Or is there another option I need to pass in? I tested this on Ubuntu 8.04 and centos 5.2 Thanks, Josh

.m4a to .flv - image/video fails

Hi all, I have greatly appreciated the information I have already gleaned from reading this forum. However I still can not solve my current problem. I am trying to convert from .m4a to .flv. These are podcast files (.m4a) built in garage band. Pictures were added as well and we would like to use this format to create weekly announcements because Garage Band is so easy for our non-technically oriented staff. Using ffmpeg the audio converts just fine but the "video" is not right. I guess it's because these files include chapter data not actual video. However when I convert it to any format the images fly through at different rates, then it seems to get stuck on a picture in the middle. The format I would like to convert to is flash so that I can easy display multiple announcement files using a flash player. I can convert .mov to .flv no problem. Converting .m4a to .mov and then .flv doesn't produce any better results. I'm hoping someone can lead me in the right direction.? I've upgraded my OLD debian to ubuntu and noticed my old-fashioned way of capturing video from my webcam doesn't work anymore.? I must be missing some newly-required parameters?? In a more recent SVN (June 22nd), I got a similar error, but it had text more like "Incorrect width, height, or rate". Any help is appreciated.

Compiling ffmpeg with extra libs without root access

Hi I am trying to compile ffmpeg but I don't have root privilige on the machine. I've compiled using --prefix when configuring - but the problem is that I need to use lameMp3 encoder and libamr-wb and libamr- nb. These I have installed and placed in my home dir - but how do I make sure that ffmpeg looks there when compiling. This is my problem - how do I tell ffmpeg explicitly where to look for extra libs? [Ffmpeg-user] Conversion to flv - lower quality, larger file size

Ive been playing around with ffmpeg for video conversions for my new site, but Ive been plagued by crappy quality videos, that look very pixelated after the conversion. I noticed on youtube/pornhub/whatever, even if the video isnt the greatest quality, its kinda blurry, but I''m just getting huge pixels, which looks terrible. This is my conversion command: /usr/bin/ffmpeg -i $input_file -ar 44100 -ab 64 -b 500000 -s 520x390 -f flv $output_file_unkeyed I input a 80mb wmv file that looks pretty good, and I get a 110mb flv file that looks much worse (when there is lots of movement especially). hi, i would like to resize video and overlay with image. when i resize video, e.g. from 624x352 to 320x240, and use imlib2 vhook in one line, i get 320x240 video with small picture in the corner: ffmpeg -i infile.avi -cropright 52 -cropleft 52 -s 320x240 -aspect 1.333 -vhook './imlib2.so -x 0 -y 0 -i image.png' outfile.avi i know that options for imlib2 are -x -y for coordinates, and i would like to know how to use """ Expressions are functions of these variables: N frame number (starting at zero) H frame height W frame width h image height w image width X previous x coordinate of text or image Y previous y coordinate of text or image """ precisely, how do i tell to the image to keep the same size ? do i have to use two commands ? like in first command resize video, and in second use vhook ? thanks Co.De. --

compiling with libfaac on mingw (solved)

I found where the problem was, it's in this code in faac.h #ifdef WIN32 # ifndef FAACAPI # define FAACAPI __stdcall # endif #else # ifndef FAACAPI # define FAACAPI # endif #endif FAACAPI __stdcall should have been defined __stdcall but it wasn't because WIN32 wasn't defined. Adding it in the place immediately before #include <faac.h> solved the problem for me. There was the same problem with libfaad, solved by the same way.
