milliseconds to mpeg-ts pts/dts
by steuer＠unixsystems.de 07 Sep '11

guys, i try to create an mpegts file from H.264 and ACC raw frames that i receive from a network connection. I create AVPacket structures, set data, size, pts and dts etc. manually. For the stream that I receive, PTS and DTS seem to be equal, so I just calculate the packet pts and dts with incoming pts / 1000.0 * 90000.0 I do that for audio and video. Unfortunately that seems to be wrong as ffmpeg states "dts < pcr, TS is invalid" after a couple of seconds. I seems that the timestamps run out of sync with the internal pcr reference clock. What would be the correct way to calculate the pts and dts of the mpegts stream? Thanks alot for your help! Cheers, Heri

video4linux2 - NTSC webcam
by knox1808＠yahoo.com 29 Jan '10

I'm hoping someone can lead me in the right direction.? I've upgraded my OLD debian to ubuntu and noticed my old-fashioned way of capturing video from my webcam doesn't work anymore.? I used to be able to call ffmpeg with: ffmpeg -vd /dev/video0 -s 320x240 test.flv I noticed that ffmpeg now requires: ffmpeg -f video4linux2 -i /dev/video0 However, I am getting errors about incorrect parameters with the following: ffmpeg -f video4linux2 -i /dev/video0 -s 320x240 -an test.flv FFmpeg version SVN-rUNKNOWN, Copyright (c) 2000-2007 Fabrice Bellard, et al. ? configuration: --enable-gpl --enable-pp --enable-swscaler --enable-pthreads --enable-libvorbis --enable-libtheora --enable-libogg --enable-libgsm --enable-dc1394 --disable-debug --enable-shared --prefix=/usr ? libavutil version: 1d.49.3.0 ? libavcodec version: 1d.51.38.0 ? libavformat version: 1d.51.10.0 ? built on Mar 12 2008 14:31:53, gcc: 4.2.3 (Ubuntu 4.2.3-2ubuntu4) [video4linux2 @ 0xb7fc7110]Missing/Wrong parameters /dev/video0: Error while opening file I've changed permissions to /dev/video0 with chmod g+rw /dev/video0 since I had issues like that in the past. I must be missing some newly-required parameters?? In a more recent SVN (June 22nd), I got a similar error, but it had text more like "Incorrect width, height, or rate". Any help is appreciated.

[Ffmpeg-user] FFMPEG VDPAU but no DxVA?
by soljin＠gmail.com 26 Dec '09

I see FFMPEG is developing VDPAU support but still no DxVA support. It's just strange to see FFMPEG adding support for not only a platform specific but also hardware specific API. With DxVA it's at least hardware independent (to a degree). Also DxVA is an established API that has been used for quite a while now. Am I missing something or is this just strange? Developer preference? Grave Injustice? I would love to see FFMPEG support DxVA as it could eventually lead to hardware acceleration in tasty things like XBMC Windows. I think cross platform support for hardware accelerated h.264 is the right direction for FFMPEG. I am currently running a build of XBMC VDPAU and would love to offer the same performance to my friends running windows. Many people just aren't comfortable with Linux. -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/FFMPEG-VDPAU-but-no-DxVA--tp22613357p22613357.html Sent from the FFmpeg-users mailing list archive at Nabble.com.

How to specify VFR input with various codecs
by alexandre.ferrieux＠orange-ftgroup.com 07 Sep '09

07 Sep '09

Hi, I'm live-transcoding input from cameras to MPEG2 TS. When the input frame rate can be controlled and fixed, it works like a charm. However, in some situations, like sender CPU overload, the effective frame rate is variable and falls well below the nominal rate, and the mismatch is observable in the viewed MPEG2 stream with periodic stalls. Analysis of the PCR says it is incrementing slower than real time, which is compatible with a discrepancy between incoming dts and actual time-of-arrival. Q: What is the recommended way of addressing this: (a) by using an input container with timestamps (like RTP), with a timestamp increment reflecting the slowing down of the emitter ? (b) by using a special flag meaning "take input dts from real time" ? (c) other ? TIA, -Alex
