AC3 -> AAC 6-Channel Mapping Wrong for PS3
by gofish＠evilbill.org 07 Jul '10

07 Jul '10

Good Day, I am trying to convert 5.1 AC3 (with video) VOB to a PS3 compatible MP4 with surround sound. The PS3 does not support AC3 in the mp4 container so I am trying to use 6 channel AAC. It seems to almost work, but the channel mapping is incorrect (e.g. my center channel comes out the right speaker). Is there a way to map channels in ffmpeg that I'm missing? Is 6-channel encoding fixed in a later version? (I'm using an RPM from a 2009-10-26 SVN pull.) It is a lot of work to upgrade (make new RPMs) so if possible I would like to know ahead of time that it has been fixed. Has anyone else done this successfully? My command is basically: ffmpeg -y -i something.vob -acodec aac -ac 6 -ab 384k ...lots of video options... something.mp4 Thanks. --Bill FFmpeg version SVN-r20372, Copyright (c) 2000-2009 Fabrice Bellard, et al. built on Nov 7 2009 17:50:32 with gcc 4.4.2 20091027 (Red Hat 4.4.2-7) configuration: --prefix=/usr --bindir=/usr/bin --datadir=/usr/share/ffmpeg --incdir=/usr/include/ffmpeg --libdir=/usr/lib --mandir=/usr/share/man --arch=i686 --extra-cflags='-O2 -g -pipe -Wall -Wp,-D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=2 -fexceptions -fstack-protector --param=ssp-buffer-size=4 -m32 -march=i686 -mtune=atom -fasynchronous-unwind-tables' --extra-version=rpmfusion --enable-bzlib --enable-libdc1394 --enable-libdirac --enable-libfaad --enable-libgsm --enable-libmp3lame --enable-libopenjpeg --enable-libschroedinger --enable-libspeex --enable-libtheora --enable-libvorbis --enable-libx264 --enable-libxvid --enable-x11grab --enable-avfilter --enable-avfilter-lavf --enable-postproc --enable-pthreads --disable-static --enable-shared --enable-gpl --disable-debug --disable-stripping --shlibdir=/usr/lib --cpu=i686 --enable-runtime-cpudetect libavutil 50. 3. 0 / 50. 3. 0 libavcodec 52.37. 1 / 52.37. 1 libavformat 52.39. 2 / 52.39. 2 libavdevice 52. 2. 0 / 52. 2. 0 libavfilter 1. 4. 1 / 1. 4. 1 libswscale 0. 7. 1 / 0. 7. 1 libpostproc 51. 2. 0 / 51. 2. 0

No audio from /dev/dsp

I'm grabbing video + audio from a Brooktree Bt878 card. The video is recorded well but the audio channel is mute. I have checked with alsamixer and no inputs are marked as mute (MM). These are a couple of commands I have used to record successfully: ffmpeg -f oss -i /dev/dsp -f video4linux2 -i /dev/video0 -acodec mp2 -vcodec mpeg4 -s 320x240 -b 300k -r 25 -y grab.mp4 ffmpeg -f oss -i /dev/dsp -f video4linux2 -i /dev/video0 -acodec mp2 -vcodec mpeg2video -y grab.mpg What do you suggest? Capture from video and audio device simultaneously to mpeg-ts
by shane.m.walton＠gmail.com 06 Jul '10

06 Jul '10

Hi I'm trying to capture from a video device and an audio device and mix the output into a mpeg-ts container, but am having trouble getting the audio to not impact the video in terms of fluid PTS. I've tried using the -vsync and -async options but can't come up with a correct solution. It seems that in most cases the blocking of the audio device (being at lesser frequency) causes dup frames for the video. Is there a general rule when capturing from an a video device and an audio device? Here are the options that I am trying: ffmpeg -f oss -acodec pcm_s16le -async 1 -ac 2 -ar 48000 -i /dev/dsp -s 1920x1080 -r 30.0 -f video4linux2 -i /dev/video0 -threads 4 -vcodec libx264 -vpre lossless -f mpegts test.ts This causes every other video frame to be dup'd. Problems with 1080i (PAFF) H.264 from satellite
by martijn＠iphion.nl 05 Jul '10

05 Jul '10

Hi, I have spent the last two days experimenting and Googleing for answers, but I'm stuck, so I hope someone here can help me. I am trying to play, and ultimately transcode, a H.264 stream from a DVB-S2 satellite transponder, but I'm having serious problems with that. Audio is usually OK, but the video freezes every once in a while for a few seconds. Sometimes it plays OK for a while, but then it starts freezing more often than not. All in all, it's pretty erratic. During playback, I get a lot of this (this is from ffplay): [h264 @ 0x86b9fd0]reference picture missing during reorder [h264 @ 0x86b9fd0]Missing reference picture [h264 @ 0x86b9fd0]number of reference frames exceeds max (probably corrupt input), discarding one Last message repeated 428 timesB vq=14769KB sq= 0B f=0/0 [h264 @ 0x86b9fd0]reference picture missing during reorder [h264 @ 0x86b9fd0]Missing reference picture [h264 @ 0x86b9fd0]illegal short term buffer state detectedf=0/0 Last message repeated 1 times0KB vq=14684KB sq= 0B f=0/0 [h264 @ 0x86b9fd0]mmco: unref short failure Playing with VLC gives more or less the same result. I am using an ffmpeg svn checkout of r23386 (May 29). VLC is also linked against this. To illustrate the problems, I have put a test clip online here: http://www.grendelman.net/files/ned1-hd-nosjournaal2-cut.ts This file is an unprocessed capture from a satellite stream (produced with dvblast). It plays OK for about 10 seconds, and after that, it becomes unwatchable. This clip (and live streams from the same satellite transponder) play nicely on a settopbox with a hardware H.264 decoder on board. Output of `ffmpeg -i` on the file looks like this: Seems stream 0 codec frame rate differs from container frame rate: 50.00 (50/1) -> 50.00 (50/1) Input #0, mpegts, from '/tmp/ned1-hd-nosjournaal2-cut.ts': Duration: 00:00:49.01, start: 3685.913044, bitrate: 8557 kb/s Program 7035 NED1 HD Metadata: name : NED1 HD provider_name : Canaldigitaal Stream #0.0[0x205]: Video: h264, yuv420p, 1920x1080 [PAR 1:1 DAR 16:9], 59.96 fps, 50 tbr, 90k tbn, 50 tbc Stream #0.1[0x5a](dut): Audio: mp2, 48000 Hz, 2 channels, s16, 192 kb/s Stream #0.2[0x24](dut): Subtitle: [6][0][0][0] / 0x0006 At least one output file must be specified A really old version of ffmpeg (r10864) says: PAFF interlacing is not implemented So, maybe there's a clue. I /suspect/ is has something to do with the PAFF interlacing in this file, but as I am far from an expert on the subject, I am not sure. So, my questions: - what is special about this file? - what can I do to have ffmpeg decode it (and VLC play it) nicely? - anyone else having this problem? Shouldn't it be common? I am surely not the only one trying to watch and transcode HD channels from satellite? Hoping for answers... Best regards, Martijn.

Generating exact subclips from middle of multiplexed TS stream
by PHILLIP.BARNETT＠ITN.CO.UK 30 Jun '10

30 Jun '10

Hi, I need to generate a subclip of a couple of minutes from a 500GB TS for analysis by an external supplier. Can I use ffmpeg for this? The TS is multiplexed, and has four programmes embedded, 12 streams. If I use the line 'ffmpeg -i huge_file.ts -ss 66300 -t 120 -vcodec copy -acodec copy much_smaller_file.ts' I get only one of the four services - it seems to grab the first video and first audio files and use them. Anyone know how I can get an exact bit for bit copy of a specified subsection of the entire transport stream? Am I right that using '-vcodec copy' will mean NO TRANSCODING? And is ffmpeg the appropriate tool for the job? Many thanks in advance Phil [http://www.itn.co.uk/images/ITN_Master_blue.gif] PHILLIP BARNETT SERVER MANAGER 200 GRAY'S INN ROAD LONDON WC1X 8XZ UNITED KINGDOM T +44 (0)20 7430 4474 F E PHILLIP.BARNETT at ITN.CO.UK WWW.ITN.CO.UK<http://WWW.ITN.CO.UK> P Please consider the environment.
