ffmpeg & ffmbc on same machine
by Jim Shupert 31 May '11

31 May '11

friends, I am intending to build a 64 bit linux machine [ ubuntu 11.4 ] I wish to have both ffmpg and ffmbc on the machine. for ffmpeg i was going to use this as an install guide http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=786095 and i suppose i would be building ffmbc from source. My primary Q are: Is it OK to have both? Does having ffmbc make ffmpeg redundunt .. i should therefore , only do ffmbc? If I install both are there any obvious things to be mindful of ...regarding libs and such. do yall have any thoughts - suggestions. thanks --just getting started jim

Can ffmpeg rip audio from CDs?
by Rachel Trent 30 May '11

30 May '11

I am looking for a CDDA utility/CD ripper that preserves as much metadata as possible. I was recommended ffmpeg by people who use it to convert WAV files, but in looking through the documentation, I could find nothing on ripping raw audio from CDs. Is this correct, or can anyone set me straight? Thank you, Rachel

How to decide a codec for a container.
by Paramjeet Singh Bawa 30 May '11

30 May '11

Hi List, I have a Transcoder application that will do the conversion between the several media types. I am using 'FFMpeg' for best performance. Problem is , when a conversion request comes with UAProf url, I can get the all container that is supported by the particular handset not codec detail. How can I decide codec in this case ? Will all codec that is supported by the container, also be supported by the Handset? As Example : Nokia handset support audio/3gpp2 container. And this container support both audio/aac and audio/evrc codecs. Will this handset support both codecs ? Please help me. VOB error

Hello, Goal ---- I've saved a VOB file from a DVD. It contains a VHS rip made by a "conversion professional". I'd like to convert it and make some cutting. ffplay ------ ffplay refuses to read it: $ ffplay VTS_01_1.VOB [...] VTS_01_1.VOB: Invalid data found when processing input I forced it: $ ffplay -f mpegvideo VTS_01_1.VOB I get a lot of error on console: [...] [mpeg2video @ 0x18d4010]invalid cbp at 21 11 [mpeg2video @ 0x18d4010]concealing 550 DC, 550 AC, 550 MV errors 736.21 A-V: 0.000 s:0.0 aq= 0KB vq= 12KB sq= 0B f=12/638 [...] Display is split in 2 parts, with some small portions of image. ffmpeg ------ $ ffmpeg -f mpegvideo -i VTS_01_1.VOB [...] [mpeg1video @ 0x167ea00]mpeg_decode_postinit() failure Last message repeated 5 times [mpeg1video @ 0x167ea00]ac-tex damaged at 24 4 [mpeg1video @ 0x167ea00]Warning MVs not available [mpeg1video @ 0x167ea00]concealing 1440 DC, 1440 AC, 1440 MV errors [mpegvideo @ 0x16756b0]max_analyze_duration reached [mpegvideo @ 0x16756b0]Estimating duration from bitrate, this may be inaccurate Seems stream 0 codec frame rate differs from container frame rate: 50.00 (50/1) -> 50.00 (50/1) Input #0, mpegvideo, from 'VTS_01_1.VOB': Duration: 00:20:26.67, bitrate: 2713 kb/s Stream #0.0: Video: mpeg2video, yuv420p, 720x576 [PAR 16:15 DAR 4:3], 2713 kb/s, 54.60 fps, 50 tbr, 1200k tbn, 50 tbc At least one output file must be specified xine ---- Xine manages to read it more or less correctly (with errors on console). Therefore the file is not totally corrupted. avidemux -------- Avidemux manages to open it, and after reindexing, shows two parts (horizontally), with correct images. Problem with video4linux2

When I try to capture the video from my webcam: ffmpeg -f video4linux2 -s 640x480 -r 30 -i /dev/video0 -vcodec mpeg2video -b 2048k -an output.avi I get this output and error: ffmpeg version git-N-30353-g78046da, Copyright (c) 2000-2011 the FFmpeg developers built on May 28 2011 18:37:07 with gcc 4.5.2 configuration: --enable-libfaac --enable-libx264 --enable-libmp3lame --enable-gpl --enable-nonfree libavutil 51. 2. 2 / 51. 2. 2 libavcodec 53. 6. 0 / 53. 6. 0 libavformat 53. 2. 0 / 53. 2. 0 libavdevice 53. 0. 0 / 53. 0. 0 libavfilter 2. 11. 0 / 2. 11. 0 libswscale 0. 14. 0 / 0. 14. 0 libpostproc 51. 2. 0 / 51. 2. 0 [video4linux2 @ 0x1a88bc0] The V4L2 driver ioctl set standard(NTSC) failed [video4linux2 @ 0x1a88bc0] Could not find codec parameters (Invalid Codec type -1) [video4linux2 @ 0x1a88bc0] Estimating duration from bitrate, this may be inaccurate /dev/video0: could not find codec parameters However, if I use the Ubuntu version of ffmpeg: FFmpeg version 0.6.2-4:0.6.2-1ubuntu1, Copyright (c) 2000-2010 the Libav developers built on Mar 22 2011 15:55:04 with gcc 4.5.2 and exactly the same command, everything works fine. Something has probably changed and it is preventing the video4linux2 to work. Do you have any idea how to make it work? Peter Basista

avio_close() delay in releasing file on Windows/MinGW?
by Thomas Worth 28 May '11

28 May '11

Using MinGW on Windows 7, I create an output file like this: char *output_file = "somefile.mov"; AVFormatContext *outputCtx; avformat_alloc_output_context2(&outputCtx, NULL, NULL, output_file); AVOutputFormat *fmt = outputCtx->oformat; blah blah code blah... if(!(fmt->flags & AVFMT_NOFILE)){ if(avio_open(&outputCtx->pb, output_file, AVIO_FLAG_WRITE) < 0) { return -1; } } av_write_header(outputCtx); blah blah more code... avio_close(outputCtx->pb); av_freep(outputCtx); This all works fine. But if I try to open the file immediately after: FILE *infile; if(!(infile = fopen(output_file,"rb+"))){ return -1; } This fails 99% of the time, but once in a while it will work! What's going on here? I am I forgetting to release something?

Audio out of sync -how to fix?
by Fernando Cassia 28 May '11

28 May '11

Hi, I´m trying to cut a segment of a Xvid (Mpeg4 part 2), into a VCD or DVD MPEG2. If I use ffmpeg.exe -i TheRocker.avi -f dvd -target ntsc-dvd -r 29.97 -s 720x480 -aspect 4:3 -b 8000k -mbd rd -trellis -mv0 -cmp 0 -subcmp 2 cellphones.mpg ...then the movie converts fine. However, if I want to save an awful lot of time and proceed to skip to the segment I want by adding -ss 00:46:50 -t 15 before the -i, then the segment is cut and encoded in perfect quality, but the audio is out of sync! (like 1 second out of sync). Is there a parameter to fix this audio sync issue and avoid this?. The time savings are huge (think, recompressing a 15-second segment instead of re-encoding a whole 90-min movie to mpeg2 just to be able to extract a segment... Thanks in advance. FC PS: I get the same results if I choose VCD as the output format. And -acodec copy -vcodec copy gives me perfect image (in the original Xvid codec) but garbled sound.

multiple drawtext parameters
by mromey 28 May '11

28 May '11

Want to use ffmpeg to publish quickTimes and thumbnails for our asset management system. Evaluating how viable ffmpeg would be as a replacement to our current system. In the past I have done it lots of different ways. I have used After Effects, Nuke, RVIO, python and pil. Thus far I am impressed with ffmpeg but having some difficulty with some parameters. Exploring the drawtext filter. I have the following example. ffmpeg.exe -i C:/temp/input.mov -vf drawtext="arial.ttf=':text='TEST'" C:/temp/output.mov Have a few questions: 1. Is it possible to process multiple drawtext in the same IO stream. I would rather load the movie or image sequence once into memory once then apply each drawtext overlay rather than process the addition of each drawtext and load the file each time. If this is possible can somebody help by showing me the syntax. 2. One of the drawtext burn ins needs to be a frame counter. Is it possible to send some type of internal variable/flag to the value of text that would use the frame number in lieu of static text? 3. Was hoping to get some direction as to how I would take a single frame slate file and append it to a quicktime via ffmpeg. Thanks for the help in advanced.
