Hello Community, recently I posted here concerning a question about the ffmpeg-server resp. a client module. I probably overlooked possible replies (because of the big number of posts) but supposed not to have gotten one. Because of this here once more and a modified, more precise demand/ post: I need a lightweight video-server (like ffserver seems to be) with the additional (but optional and so not necessary) possibility to embed text in the signaflow/ image(s) (what ffserver probably can't). Furthermore I need a lightweight video-client (what ffclient seems to be) to embed into my website. To be precise I am going to embed two clients which supposed to get their 'input' from 2 very different (if not one of em local) IP's. Questions: 1. is it possible to integrate ffclient into a website by HTML and if so where do I get some detailed information about it? (please, I am busy... be congrete!) 2. if so, will there be no problem to integrate 2 clients at the same time feeded from two different locations? (somebody experience with it?) 3. I need round about 10-15 frames/sec. to accomplish the goal to get a still acceptable motion-video- which compression methods would you recommend or should I change my mind and tend to a different number? The website include other streams and bandwidth is 'precious'... Thanks for your consideration. Gee

libass reference broken
by Elliott Balsley 04 Mar '14

04 Mar '14

I have ffmpeg installed from git master, and many of its dependencies installed through MacPorts. When I try to run ffmpeg, I get this error: $ ffmpeg dyld: Library not loaded: /opt/local/lib/libass.4.dylib Referenced from: /usr/local/bin/ffmpeg Reason: image not found Trace/BPT trap: 5 I don’t have that dynamic library, but I do have /opt/local/lib/libass.5.dylib, and a symlink pointing to that called libass.dylib. I think this broke after upgrading MacPorts packages. Is there a way to make ffmpeg reference the generic symlink, so it doesn’t break every time libass is upgraded?

How to install ffplay
by Elliott Balsley 04 Mar '14

04 Mar '14

After installing ffmpeg from git master, I have binaries for ffmpeg, ffprobe, and ffserver. But ffplay is missing, so how do I install it? This was my configure command: ./configure --enable-gpl --enable-version3 --enable-nonfree --enable-static --enable-libass --enable-libbluray --enable-libfdk-aac --enable-libmp3lame --enable-libvpx --enable-libx264 --enable-opencl --enable-libfreetype --disable-shared --enable-libopenjpeg --enable-libvorbis --enable-libtheora

thank you for ffmpeg-2.2-rc1
by Reindl Harald 03 Mar '14

thank you for 2.2-rc1 http://ffmpeg.org/releases/ffmpeg-2.2-rc1.tar.bz2 while i completly understand the "please use current HEAD" in case of problem reports that is really a step forwards for users and downstream distributions and makes the project stronger - a good sign that usually HEAD is stable and fine for production but a release is a relase AFAIK this is the first RC is saw in context of ffmpeg start testing now my abstraction layers (PHP)....

Can't write on the http stream on ffserver with h264 codec
by bigdoby 03 Mar '14

Hi all, I have a problem with ffmpeg and ffserver, I can't stream to ffserver, below you can find the log. After a few seconds it quits, but with ffplay I can see it worked at least once. If i remove "-f h264" from the command it runs well but uses mjpeg codec instead of h264. ffmpeg started on 2014-03-03 at 18:08:40 Report written to "ffmpeg-20140303-180840.log" Command line: ffmpeg -f v4l2 -framerate 15 -re -i /dev/video10 -an -s 160x120 -ss 00:00:05 -c:v libx264 -b:v 50k -bt 50k -f h264 -preset placebo -r 15 -pix_fmt yuv420p http://localhost:8090/feed1.ffm -report ffmpeg version N-57033-g7ab8bce Copyright (c) 2000-2013 the FFmpeg developers built on Oct 10 2013 14:42:06 with gcc 4.7 (Ubuntu/Linaro 4.7.3-1ubuntu1) configuration: --enable-pthreads --enable-libmp3lame --enable-libmodplug --enable-libfaac --enable-libpulse --enable-libssh --enable-libtheora --enable-libvorbis --enable-libx264 --enable-libxvid --enable-openal --enable-gpl --enable-nonfree libavutil 52. 46.101 / 52. 46.101 libavcodec 55. 35.100 / 55. 35.100 libavformat 55. 19.100 / 55. 19.100 libavdevice 55. 4.100 / 55. 4.100 libavfilter 3. 88.101 / 3. 88.101 libswscale 2. 5.101 / 2. 5.101 libswresample 0. 17.103 / 0. 17.103 libpostproc 52. 3.100 / 52. 3.100 Splitting the commandline. Add audio at specific time in video
by Jay Sardhara 03 Mar '14

03 Mar '14

I want to add a *.m4a audio of 5s duration to a *.mp4 video file. I have already tried the -itsoffset command of ffmpeg. ffmpeg -i a.mp4 -itsoffset 00:00:10 -i b.m4a -map 0:0 -map 1:0 -preset ultrafast o.mp4 The problem is it does start at 00:00:10 but it keeps repeating after every 10s. (It is noticed only when you play the whole video w/o touching seekbar) Also other problem is that when I play this video on android then audio starts from beginning. While it plays fine with VLC. *Expected O/p* Silence in video till specified time, then my audio, and again silence after audio How to achieve above result ?

Trying to Motion JPEG to segmented video, but "Non-increasing DTS in stream 0" forever

Hello, I have to connect to several mjpeg ip-camera (mostly cheap copy of FI8908W), and segment it in files. Sometimes I'll have MJPEG and sometimes only snapshots JPEG. Can I make ffmpeg to add bitrate, duration, stream size data for vbr streams?
by Zsolt 01 Mar '14

01 Mar '14

Hello! I've been encoding crf libx264 encodes with FLAC streams. What bothers me is if I view the video files (meta)data with mediainfo or ffprobe these information are unavailable. Ffmpeg gifes a summary of the stream sizes at the end of the encode so I know at least that one is readily available. It could just as well calculate the (average) bitrate and duration. But neither is available. It would be great if at least the stream size would be available. Average bitrate would be nice too. PS: Just noticed an old crf film for which mediainfo shows bitrate and stream size and percentage, while ffprobe (with -show_streams) doesn't these information. So it's at least doable.

can't pipe into into ffmpeg from mp4's
by Brian Quandt 01 Mar '14

01 Mar '14

I'd like to do the following: This works fine: ffmpeg -i file.mp4 towhatever.ext however, this fails cat file.mp4 | ffmpeg -i - towhatever.ext I know the reason, ie mp4's (QT's) have their file information at the end of the file, and therefore ffmpeg fails to determine what to do when piped input. However, say I know all the details of the codec and container, can I specify them on the command line so that the pipe method would work? Say I created the file myself, and or have ffprobed the file previously. For instance: cat file.mp4 | ffmpeg -f xyz -pix_fmt rgb24 ... -i - towhatever.ext

Why can I play ogg file but not convert to mkv with FFMPEG?

I want to convert a ogg video to mkv, but different errors appear. I have two streams (from the same source) that I captured. They are in an ogg container. If I try to convert them to mkv with ffmpeg -i stream.ogg -c copy -map 0 stream.mkv the output is as follows ffmpeg version 0.10.7 Copyright (c) 2000-2013 the FFmpeg developers built on May 14 2013 21:35:02 with gcc 4.7.2 20120921 (Red Hat 4.7.2-2) configuration: --prefix=/usr --bindir=/usr/bin --datadir=/usr/share/ffmpeg --incdir=/usr/include/ffmpeg --libdir=/usr/lib --mandir=/usr/share/man --arch=i686 --extra-cflags='-O2 -g -pipe -Wall -Wp,-D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=2 -fexceptions -fstack-protector --param=ssp-buffer-size=4 -m32 -march=i686 -mtune=atom -fasynchronous-unwind-tables' --enable-bzlib --disable-crystalhd --enable-gnutls --enable-libass --enable-libcdio --enable-libcelt --enable-libdc1394 --disable-indev=jack --enable-libfreetype --enable-libgsm --enable-libmp3lame --enable-openal --enable-libopenjpeg --enable-libpulse --enable-librtmp --enable-libschroedinger --enable-libspeex --enable-libtheora --enable-libvorbis --enable-libv4l2 --enable-libvpx --enable-libx264 --enable-libxvid --enable-x11grab --enable-avfilter --enable-postproc --enable-pthreads --disable-static --enable-shared --enable-gpl --disable-debug --disable-stripping --shlibdir=/usr/lib --cpu=i686 --enable-runtime-cpudetect libavutil 51. 35.100 / 51. 35.100 libavcodec 53. 61.100 / 53. 61.100 libavformat 53. 32.100 / 53. 32.100 libavdevice 53. 4.100 / 53. 4.100 libavfilter 2. 61.100 / 2. 61.100 libswscale 2. 1.100 / 2. 1.100 libswresample 0. 6.100 / 0. 6.100 libpostproc 52. 0.100 / 52. 0.100 [ogg @ 0x8685b00] Estimating duration from bitrate, this may be inaccurate Input #0, ogg, from 'stream.ogg': Duration: N/A, start: 0.000000, bitrate: N/A Stream #0:0: Video: theora, yuv420p, 640x480 [SAR 1:1 DAR 4:3], 8 fps, 8 tbr, 8 tbn, 8 tbc Stream #0:1: Audio: flac, 48000 Hz, 1 channels, s16 Metadata: ENCODER : Lavf53.32.100 Output #0, matroska, to '/dev/shm/stream.mkv': Metadata: encoder : Lavf53.32.100 Stream #0:0: Video: theora (theo / 0x6F656874), yuv420p, 640x480 [SAR 1:1 DAR 4:3], q=2-31, 8 fps, 1k tbn, 8 tbc Stream #0:1: Audio: flac ([172][241][0][0] / 0xF1AC), 48000 Hz, 1 channels Metadata: ENCODER : Lavf53.32.100 Stream mapping: Stream #0:0 -> #0:0 (copy) Stream #0:1 -> #0:1 (copy) Press [q] to stop, [?] for help [matroska @ 0x8835880] Application provided invalid, non monotonically increasing dts to muxer in stream 1: 1440 >= 1440 av_interleaved_write_frame(): Invalid argument The files can be played with mplayer and ffplay. FFmpeg build issues on Ubuntu 13.10 (32 Bit)
by Saurabh Prajapati 01 Mar '14

01 Mar '14

Hi Support, I need to build "FFmpeg" library for android application. So I referred following thread which shows how to build ffmpeg using NDK r9. http://www.roman10.net/how-to-build-ffmpeg-with-ndk-r9/ First, I downloaded latest NDK r9 ( http://dl.google.com/android/ndk/android-ndk-r9c-linux-x86.tar.bz2) for Ubuntu (32 Bit). I also downloaded latest FFmpeg source code from Git ( https://github.com/FFmpeg/FFmpeg/archive/master.zip) I have performed the steps as per documentation and got following error on executing " *build_android.sh*" file. I attached necessary documents (in ZIP format) which I think you need to resolve this issue or suggest me to fix error by proper way. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- saurabh@saurabh:~/Desktop/adt/android-ndk-r9c/sources/FFmpeg$ ./build_android.shyasm/nasm not found or too old. Use --disable-yasm for a crippled build. If you think configure made a mistake, make sure you are using the latest version from Git. If the latest version fails, report the problem to the ffmpeg-user(a)ffmpeg.org mailing list or IRC #ffmpeg on irc.freenode.net. Include the log file "config.log" produced by configure as this will help solving the problem. ./build_android.sh: line 16: --prefix=/home/saurabh/Desktop/adt/android-ndk-r9c/sources/FFmpeg/android/arm: No such file or directory ./build_android.sh: line 18: --enable-shared: command not found ./build_android.sh: line 20: --disable-static: command not found ./build_android.sh: line 22: --disable-doc: command not found ./build_android.sh: line 24: --disable-ffmpeg: command not found ./build_android.sh: line 26: --disable-ffplay: command not found ./build_android.sh: line 28: --disable-ffprobe: command not found ./build_android.sh: line 30: --disable-ffserver: command not found ./build_android.sh: line 32: --disable-avdevice: command not found ./build_android.sh: line 34: --disable-doc: command not found ./build_android.sh: line 36: --disable-symver: command not found ./build_android.sh: line 38: --cross-prefix=/home/saurabh/Desktop/adt/android-ndk-r9c/toolchains/arm-linux-androideabi-4.8/prebuilt/linux-x86_64/bin/arm-linux-androideabi-: No such file or directory ./build_android.sh: line 40: --target-os=linux: command not found ./build_android.sh: line 42: --arch=arm: command not found ./build_android.sh: line 44: --enable-cross-compile: command not found ./build_android.sh: line 46: --sysroot=/home/saurabh/Desktop/adt/android-ndk-r9c/platforms/android-9/arch-arm/: No such file or directory ./build_android.sh: line 48: --extra-cflags=-Os -fpic -marm: command not found ./build_android.sh: line 50: --extra-ldflags=: command not found Makefile:2: config.mak: No such file or directory Makefile:53: /common.mak: No such file or directory Makefile:94: /libavutil/Makefile: No such file or directory Makefile:94: /library.mak: No such file or directory Makefile:96: /doc/Makefile: No such file or directory Makefile:179: /tests/Makefile: No such file or directory make: *** No rule to make target `/tests/Makefile'. Is this a video file?
by Tom Horsley 01 Mar '14

I thought it would be simple to use ffprobe to ask the question: "Is this a video file?", but it turns out to be more complicated than I thought :-). For instance, a plain text file shows up with a codec_type of video because, of course, it could be rendered as video. So is there a simple way to ask if a file is already video? I'm trying to find all the videos in a directory with all sorts of different codecs, file extensions, and wot-not that are mixed with lots of other kinds of files as well.

How to generate the first few HLS playlist files for a live broadasting event?
by sergiogiogio＠ovi.com 01 Mar '14

Hello Knowing that HLS is based on a playlist of N segment files, how to properly generate the first (N-1) playlist files for a live broadcasting event (sliding window method)? - should we wait for the first N segments to be recorded, and send a complete first playlist file? This of course works but means that there is a delay of N x segment_duration before streaming starts. - or is there an official way of sending "partial" playlist files such that streaming starts after 1 x segment_duration? I have experimented with partial playlist files: ffmpeg 2.1.3 appends new segments into the playlist as they are recorded (below). I find this a reasonable way but my ipod5 usually stops playback after the first playlist or sometimes manages to playback the first few playlists but with much choppiness, so I believe it is not a supported way. Is there any official solution? 1st playlist file: #EXTM3U #EXT-X-VERSION:3 #EXT-X-TARGETDURATION:8 #EXT-X-MEDIA-SEQUENCE:0 #EXTINF:8, segment0.ts 2nd playlist file: #EXTM3U #EXT-X-VERSION:3 #EXT-X-TARGETDURATION:8 #EXT-X-MEDIA-SEQUENCE:0 #EXTINF:8, segment0.ts #EXTINF:1, segment1.ts 3rd playlist file: #EXTM3U #EXT-X-VERSION:3 #EXT-X-TARGETDURATION:8 #EXT-X-MEDIA-SEQUENCE:0 #EXTINF:8, segment0.ts #EXTINF:1, segment1.ts #EXTINF:8, segment2.ts
