Converting MPEG-TS to MKV with hard coded subtitles produces error message
by Stuart 09 Apr '15

09 Apr '15

Hello, I want to convert an MPEG-TS from a Humax PVR to a MKV with H.264 encoded video with hard coded DVB subtitles. Unfortunately, having downloaded a build from ffmpeg.zeranoe.com, instead of hard coded subtitles I am getting "sub2video: rectangle overflowing" messages. I've tweaked ffmpeg.c to display the parameters causing the message and built a cut down ffmpeg. (I have built a toolchain using Zeranoe's build script and built libogg, libvorbis, libx264 and pthreads-win32 from source). The message is output because the video stream is 704x576 but the subtitle rectangles are 720 wide. If I tweak function sub2video_prepare in ffmpeg_filter.c to hard code the canvas width and height to be 720 and 576 respectively then I can produce an MKV with hard coded DVB subtitles with the command: ffmpeg -i in.TS -filter_complex "[0:v]pad=720:576[main];[main][0:s]overlay" -sn out.MKV I've tried cropping the subtitle stream before overlaying but still get the "sub2video: rectangle overflowing" messages with the Zeranoe build. I've also tried scaling the video stream and padding the video stream. I think the canvas size is assigned equal to the video stream size before applying the filters. Hence, scaling or padding the video stream doesn't increase the canvas size to match the subtitle rectangle dimensions. Is there a filter sequence that would accommodate the subtitle rectangle dimensions being larger than the video stream dimensions? Or does the sub2video "hack" not cater for this situation? Many thanks, Stu

Decode to BGR24 avi
by Timo Stjernberg 02 Apr '15

02 Apr '15

Hello. I am returning this issue back via the actual mailing list, since posting via nabble.com doesn't seem to work right. Refer to http://ffmpeg-users.933282.n4.nabble.com/Decode-to-BGR24-raw-AVI-td4653855.… the original thread. There seems to be a disagreement between FFmpeg and VirtualDub of what uncompressed bgr24 raw avi really is. I can tell this already by looking at file sizes that they produce from the same video but PSNR & other metrics tell me they're definitely not the same video. I have done extensive testing on different videos with ffmpeg and so I decided to set this test up for you guys to figure out what is going south on bgr24 raw avi's. All example video files are accessible at http://videotimo.fi/ffmpeg/ TEST PHASE 1: We start with a raw original avi that has been built from PNG frames with VirtualDub (sintel_raw_original.avi). We make a rawvideo -pix_fmt bgr24 copy of it with ffmpeg to find out that even when there should be no difference between input and output, the files are not the same in size. (sintel_ffmpeg_raw2raw.avi) Console output: ffmpeg -i G:\Testivideot\sintel_raw_original.avi -vcodec rawvideo -pix_fmt bgr24 sintel_ffmpeg_raw2raw.avi: ffmpeg version N-47062-g26c531c Copyright (c) 2000-2012 the FFmpeg developers built on Nov 25 2012 12:21:26 with gcc 4.7.2 (GCC) configuration: --enable-gpl --enable-version3 --disable-pthreads --enable-runt ime-cpudetect --enable-avisynth --enable-bzlib --enable-frei0r --enable-libass - -enable-libopencore-amrnb --enable-libopencore-amrwb --enable-libfreetype --enab le-libgsm --enable-libmp3lame --enable-libnut --enable-libopenjpeg --enable-libo pus --enable-librtmp --enable-libschroedinger --enable-libspeex --enable-libtheo ra --enable-libutvideo --enable-libvo-aacenc --enable-libvo-amrwbenc --enable-li bvorbis --enable-libvpx --enable-libx264 --enable-libxavs --enable-libxvid --ena ble-zlib libavutil 52. 9.100 / 52. 9.100 libavcodec 54. 77.100 / 54. 77.100 libavformat 54. 37.100 / 54. 37.100 libavdevice 54. 3.100 / 54. 3.100 libavfilter 3. 23.102 / 3. 23.102 libswscale 2. 1.102 / 2. 1.102 libswresample 0. 17.101 / 0. 17.101 libpostproc 52. 2.100 / 52. 2.100 Input #0, avi, from 'G:\Testivideot\sintel_raw_original.avi': Duration: 00:00:01.21, start: 0.000000, bitrate: 234514 kb/s Stream #0:0: Video: rawvideo, bgr24, 848x480, 24 tbr, 24 tbn, 24 tbc Output #0, avi, to 'd:\sintel_ffmpeg_raw2raw.avi': Metadata: ISFT : Lavf54.37.100 Stream #0:0: Video: rawvideo, bgr24, 848x480, q=2-31, 200 kb/s, 24 tbn, 24 t bc Stream mapping: Stream #0:0 -> #0:0 (rawvideo -> rawvideo) Press [q] to stop, [?] for help frame= 21 fps=0.0 q=0.0 size= 25048kB time=00:00:00.87 bitrate=234508.5kbits frame= 29 fps=0.0 q=0.0 Lsize= 34589kB time=00:00:01.20 bitrate=234497.3kbit s/s video:34582kB audio:0kB subtitle:0 global headers:0kB muxing overhead 0.018011% ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TEST PHASE 2: We encode the raw original to mpeg2 (sintel_ffmpeg_raw2mpeg2.avi). Still, something is done very differently on all bgr24 raw avi decodes because I still have to run all the raw avi decodes through VirtualDub after ffmpeg before feeding the test videos to the PSNR calculator. Additionally, Microsoft Expression Encoder 4 doesn't seem to understand the raw avi produced by ffmpeg at all. Anybody had any similar incidents? Anybody that can clarify any of this? What am I doing wrong?

Output file empty when processing mp4 - Invalid data found when processing input

Hi Folks, I'm trying to resize an mp4 file using ffmpeg, but the output file comes out empty. I see the following messages just before the command finishes: Truncating packet of size 103333 to 101557 time=00:00:06.10 bitrate= 585.7kbits/s [h264 @ 0x20646aa0] AVC: nal size 103329 Last message repeated 1 times [h264 @ 0x20646aa0] no frame! You can see the full output of the command below, followed by the output of ffprobe. The only alterations are a few pieces of sensitive data that I've removed which shouldn't have any bearing on diagnosing the issue. IVTC with pullup filter
by Elliott Balsley 12 Feb '15

12 Feb '15

I have a source video that's 29.97 with 3:2 pulldown, and I want to encode it at 23.98p. This ffmpeg command produces video at 23.98, but with a pattern of 2 progressive frames followed by 2 interlaced frames. ffmpeg -ss 208 -i NCIS.ts -t 30 -vf "pullup,fps=24000/1001" -acodec copy -vcodec libx264 pullup.mkv On the other hand, I can achieve perfect results with this simple AviSynth script: MPEG2Source("NCIS.d2v", cpu=0) TFM().TDecimate() Trim(5000,5300) Since AviSynth isn't doing any deinterlacing, I don't think I should need to add yadif in ffmpeg. How can I make the pullup filter work correctly?

DVCPRO50 PAL decoding oddity - light line in top row
by Sal Kennedy 26 Oct '14

26 Oct '14

hey all. first up please spare the flames as i'm not a regular newsgroup user and have come very late to this kind of forum. i've been following ffmpeg git rather religiously - following github on my RSS reader etc. hence i'm running the current git version. anyway, i have what appears to be a long standing decode bug with dvvideo. as DVCPRO50 is not commonly used, it's no surprise. depending on possibly brightness and complexity of the top row of macroblocks, i get a sort of horizontal line. it's only the top row, but it's quite visible in the right conditions. i can upload a sample if need be - i was hoping to be able to generate a lightweight file that demonstrates this, but artificial signals haven't reproduced this issue so i just clipped a bit out of a master file. may the copyright gods forgive me... i also have x264 proxies that reflect the problem - one encoded out of premiere pro, showing how it should look, and one encoded straight from the DVCPRO50 source that shows the problem. i've read the bug submitting advice, however any command line will reproduce this so long as it has dv5p as a source. thanks! -sal

Brighten dark video before reducing size?

Hello Using a basic Sony camcorder, I recorded a two-hour conference whose picture is a bit dark. I tried applying a filter in AviDemux and saving the file, but for some reason, there's no sound when played in VLC :-/ Before trying other NLE applications (VirtualDub, Sony Vegas, etc.), I was wondering if ffmpeg could apply some filters before further reducing the filesize? FWIW... 1. here's what the original file looks like: Stream #0:0[0x1e0]: Video: mpeg2video (Main), yuv420p, 720x576 [SAR 64:45 DAR 16:9], 25 fps, 25 tbr, 90k tbn, 50 tbc Stream #0:1[0x80]: Audio: ac3, 48000 Hz, 5.1(side), s16, 448 kb/s 2. Using the following command, ffmpeg reduces the original 9GB to 340MB: ffmpeg -i input.mpg -c:v libx264 -vf scale=iw/2:-1 -preset faster -c:a ac3 -ab 192k output.mp4 Thank you.

Using FFMPEG to transcode Blu-ray compliant video
by Paul Atkins 25 Aug '14

25 Aug '14

Hello, I need to convert my compressed video into a Blu-ray compliant format. I have been up and down the web but have not found anyone who has used FFMPEG for this purpose. I have tried to seek help from the Doom9 forum: https://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1679646#post1679646 But so far, no luck. I am using a build of FFMPEG that I just cross-compiled about a month ago. Here is the code I am calling to begin the transcode: x264options = "bluray-compat=1:force-cfr=1:weightp=0:bframes=3:ref=3:nal-hrd=vbr:vbv-maxrate=40000:vbv-bufsize=30000:keyint=60:b-pyramid=strict:slices=4:tff=1:aud=1:colorprim=bt709:transfer=bt709:colormatrix=bt709:sar=1/1" strCmd = "ffmpeg.exe -y -i " & INPUT_PATH & INPUT_FILE & " -c:v libx264 -level:v 4.1 -preset veryslow -tune film -crf 16 -r 59.94 -x264opts " & x264options & " -x264-params " & x264options & " -c:a copy " & OUTPUT_NAME I am duplicating all of my x264 options into both x264opts and x264-params as I heard some work in one and not the other. One glaring difference between what I am doing and the reference on the x264bluray.com site is that I am not able to use the pulldown option, but I am trying to achieve the same thing with a framerate change in the FFMPEG command line to take my 720p29.97 video to 720p59.94. Have you or anyone you know of been able to get FFMPEG to successfully encode Blu-ray compliant video? Thanks!

A/V sync issues & more with MediaPortal recording of ClearQAM
by Mr M 10 Aug '14

To give a little bit of background this is my setup: MediaPortal 1.6.0 (Win 7) with HDHomeRun Dual (ClearQAM) I've recorded TSes from this setup that worked perfectly using FFMPEG with the follow command: "ffmpeg.exe -i FILE.ts -vcodec libxvid -vtag XVID -vf scale=720:480 -aspect 4:3 -maxrate 1200k -b:v 981k -qmin 3 -qmax 5 -bufsize 4096 -deinterlace -acodec libmp3lame -b:a 128k -ac 2 -async 1 OUT.avi" On every recording I've gotten so far this method has worked like a charm. Yet on channel seems to have some sort of strange "MPEGin" going on. ffmpeg reports the following streams: [mpeg2video @ 024b9900] Invalid frame dimensions 0x0. Last message repeated 3 times [mpegts @ 024be860] PES packet size mismatch [NULL @ 041e3ba0] start time is not set in estimate_timings_from_pts [mpegts @ 024be860] PES packet size mismatch [mpegts @ 024be860] Could not find codec parameters for stream 3 (Audio: ac3 ([129][0][0][0] / 0x0081), 0 channels): unspecified sample format Consider increasing the value for the 'analyzeduration' and 'probesize' options Input #0, mpegts, from '\\192.168.0.43\d\manual - MSNBC - 2014-02-02.ts': Duration: 03:06:10.68, start: 0.078578, bitrate: 3754 kb/s Program 137 Stream #0:0[0x40](eng): Audio: ac3 ([129][0][0][0] / 0x0081), 48000 Hz, stereo, fltp, 192 kb/s Stream #0:1[0x41](spa): Audio: ac3 ([129][0][0][0] / 0x0081), 48000 Hz, stereo, fltp, 192 kb/s Stream #0:2[0x30]: Video: mpeg2video (Main) ([2][0][0][0] / 0x0002), yuv420p(tv), 704x480 [SAR 10:11 DAR 4:3], max. 3080 kb/s, 29.83 fps, 29.97 tbr, 90k tbn, 59.94 tbc No Program Stream #0:3[0x42](spa): Audio: ac3 ([129][0][0][0] / 0x0081), 0 channels The 0:1 and 0:3 seem to be dead as you hear silence on 0:1 and 0:3 shows no data. Also it seems during the commericals the video size is not staying the same. Like the programming is 704:480 yet commericals can go like 540:X and other random sizes. VLC can play the file fine also changing sizes during commericals but ffmpeg seems to lose A/V sync the more times it hits a commerical break.

Realtime live streaming delay
by Leonid Kuzmin 04 Aug '14

Hi all! I'm trying to set up realtime streaming from my laptop (cpu: Intel Core i3-2350M 2.30GHz) webcam with ffserver, but there is a ~10 sec delay in video even on "local" streaming (from localhost to localhost). Is it possible to reduce delay somehow? I'm totally new to ffmpeg, so any help would be appreciated. Here is my ffserver config: ---------------------- Port 8090 BindAddress 0.0.0.0 MaxBandwidth 999999 <Feed feed1.ffm> File /tmp/feed1.ffm FileMaxSize 200K ACL allow localhost </Feed> <Stream live.flv> Format flv Feed feed1.ffm VideoCodec libx264 VideoFrameRate 30 VideoBitRate 512 VideoSize 320x240 AVOptionVideo crf 23 AVOptionVideo preset ultrafast AVOptionVideo tune zerolatency # for more info on crf/preset options, type: x264 --help AVOptionVideo flags +global_header AVOptionVideo me_range 16 AVOptionVideo qdiff 4 AVOptionVideo qmin 10 AVOptionVideo qmax 51 AudioCodec aac Strict -2 AudioBitRate 128 AudioChannels 2 AudioSampleRate 44100 AVOptionAudio flags +global_header </Stream> <Stream stat.html> Format status ACL allow localhost </Stream> ------------------------- And here is ffmpeg string: ------------------- ffmpeg -f v4l2 -s 320x240 -r 25 -i /dev/video0 -f alsa -ac 2 -i hw:0 -preset ultrafast -pix_fmt yuv420p -tune zerolatency -threads 4 http://localhost:8090/feed1.ffm ------------------- Its output: ------------------------ ffmpeg version 2.2.2 Copyright (c) 2000-2014 the FFmpeg developers built on May 13 2014 19:05:50 with gcc 4.8 (Ubuntu 4.8.2-19ubuntu1) configuration: --enable-libfaac --enable-libx264 --enable-gpl --enable-nonfree --enable-indev=alsa --enable-indev=v4l2 libavutil 52. 66.100 / 52. 66.100 libavcodec 55. 52.102 / 55. 52.102 libavformat 55. 33.100 / 55. 33.100 libavdevice 55. 10.100 / 55. 10.100 libavfilter 4. 2.100 / 4. 2.100 libswscale 2. 5.102 / 2. 5.102 libswresample 0. 18.100 / 0. 18.100 libpostproc 52. 3.100 / 52. 3.100 Input #0, video4linux2,v4l2, from '/dev/video0': Duration: N/A, start: 38460.008238, bitrate: 30720 kb/s Stream #0:0: Video: rawvideo (YUY2 / 0x32595559), yuyv422, 320x240, 30720 kb/s, 25 fps, 25 tbr, 1000k tbn, 1000k tbc Guessed Channel Layout for Input Stream #1.0 : stereo Input #1, alsa, from 'hw:0': Duration: N/A, start: 1400003570.738435, bitrate: 1536 kb/s Stream #1:0: Audio: pcm_s16le, 48000 Hz, stereo, s16, 1536 kb/s Codec AVOption preset (Set the encoding preset (cf. x264 --fullhelp)) specified for output file #0 (http://localhost:8090/feed1.ffm) has not been used for any stream.
