a -vf for broadcast safe
by Jim Shupert 30 Dec '15

I was wondering if there is a means to ensure that a file is transcoded as 'broadcast safe' input a unCompressed yuv avi and get a second Uncompressed yuv avi or mov and it would be 'broadcast safe'. I wish for the functionality of the broadcast safe effect available withing final cut 6. I do not find anything in the documentation. I wonder if Hald CLUT would be of any utility. thanks jim s

Hello FFmpeg-users, I am struggling to get the concat demuxer working on FFMPEG Version 4.2.4. I am attempting to combine multiple image files into a video by using the command: ffmpeg -f concat -i myFile.txt output.mp4 I get an output file from the command, but the total time is much shorter than the time I specify in the file. I am fairly sure it has something to do with these: [concat @ 0x3517c20] DTS -230575710986727 < -9214782102262 out of order DTS -221360928884465, next:40000 st:0 invalid dropping PTS -221360928884465, next:40000 invalid dropping st:0 DTS -221360928884389, next:80000 st:0 invalid dropping PTS -221360928884389, next:80000 invalid dropping st:0 *Does anyone have any idea what I can do to get this working? V4L2 recording results in invalid data & buffer still owned errors.
by Louis Rossmann 09 Jun '15

09 Jun '15

Hi I am using a Magewell XI100DUSB-HDMI capture device to record video from a camera. My end goal is to be able to record two cameras simultaneously, one with embedded audio, both HDMI sources. Here is the command I am using to record one of the cameras *$ ffmpeg -f v4l2 -framerate 60 -s 1920x1080 -i /dev/video1 -f alsa -i pulse -c:v libx264 -crf 0 -preset ultrafast -c:a pcm_s16le outfile3.mkv* Sometimes this works perfectly! Unfortunately, at other times, I get audio without video, with this error. *[video4linux2,v4l2 @ 0xfb3e80] The v4l2 frame is 0 bytes, but 4147200 bytes are expected* */dev/video1: Invalid data found when processing input* *[video4linux2,v4l2 @ 0xfb3e80] Some buffers are still owned by the caller on close.* My current resolution to this problem is to simply re-run the command until it records. Sometimes it will record on the 3rd try,sometimes it will record on the 100th try. This is a huge inconvenience, and if I plan to work with two of these at once in the future, it will only get worse. Here is an example of the command when it works, and an example of it when it does not work, just incase I left anything out in that short output above. *$ ffmpeg -f v4l2 -framerate 60 -s 1920x1080 -i /dev/video1 -f alsa -i pulse -c:v libx264 -crf 0 -preset ultrafast -c:a pcm_s16le outfile3.mkv* *ffmpeg version N-65991-g8c63a0d Copyright (c) 2000-2014 the FFmpeg developers* * built on Sep 4 2014 22:48:40 with gcc 4.8.3 (Gentoo 4.8.3 p1.1, pie-0.5.9)* * configuration: --prefix=/usr --libdir=/usr/lib64 --shlibdir=/usr/lib64 --mandir=/usr/share/man --enable-shared --cc=x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-gcc --cxx=x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-g++ --ar=x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-ar --optflags='-march=native -O3 -pipe' --extra-cflags='-march=native -O3 -pipe' --extra-cxxflags='-march=native -O3 -pipe' --disable-static --enable-gpl --enable-postproc --enable-avfilter --enable-avresample --disable-stripping --enable-version3 --enable-indev=v4l2 --enable-outdev=v4l2 --disable-indev=oss --disable-indev=jack --disable-outdev=oss --enable-bzlib --disable-runtime-cpudetect --disable-debug --disable-doc --disable-gnutls --enable-hardcoded-tables --enable-iconv --enable-network --disable-openssl --enable-ffplay --enable-vaapi --disable-vdpau --enable-zlib --enable-libvo-aacenc --disable-libvo-amrwbenc --enable-libmp3lame --enable-libfaac --enable-libtheora --disable-libtwolame --enable-libwavpack --disable-libwebp --enable-libx264 --disable-libx265 --enable-libxvid --disable-libcdio --disable-libiec61883 --disable-libdc1394 --disable-libcaca --disable-openal --enable-opengl --enable-libv4l2 --enable-libpulse --enable-x11grab --disable-libflite --enable-frei0r --disable-fontconfig --disable-ladspa --disable-libass --enable-libfreetype --disable-libsoxr --disable-pthreads --disable-libopencore-amrwb --disable-libopencore-amrnb --disable-libfdk-aac --disable-libbluray --disable-libcelt --disable-libgme --disable-libgsm --disable-libmodplug --enable-libopus --disable-libquvi --disable-librtmp --disable-libssh --disable-libschroedinger --enable-libspeex --enable-libvorbis --disable-libvpx --disable-libzvbi --disable-armv5te --disable-armv6 --disable-armv6t2 --disable-neon --disable-vfp --disable-mips32r2 --disable-mipsdspr1 --disable-mipsdspr2 --disable-mipsfpu --disable-altivec --disable-amd3dnow --disable-amd3dnowext --enable-avx --enable-avx2 --enable-fma3 --enable-fma4 --enable-mmxext --enable-sse3 --enable-ssse3 --enable-sse4 --enable-sse42 --cpu=host --enable-nonfree* * libavutil 54. 7.100 / 54. 7.100* * libavcodec 56. 1.100 / 56. 1.100* * libavformat 56. 3.100 / 56. 3.100* * libavdevice 56. 0.100 / 56. 0.100* * libavfilter 5. 0.103 / 5. 0.103* * libavresample 2. 1. 0 / 2. 1. 0* * libswscale 3. 0.100 / 3. 0.100* * libswresample 1. 1.100 / 1. 1.100* * libpostproc 53. 0.100 / 53. 0.100* *[video4linux2,v4l2 @ 0xfb3e80] The v4l2 frame is 0 bytes, but 4147200 bytes are expected* *Input #0, video4linux2,v4l2, from '/dev/video1':* * Duration: N/A, bitrate: 1990656 kb/s* * Stream #0:0: Video: rawvideo (YUY2 / 0x32595559), yuyv422, 1920x1080, 1990656 kb/s, 60 fps, 60 tbr, 1000k tbn, 1000k tbc* *[pcm_s16le @ 0xfb5ea0] Warning: not compiled with thread support, using thread emulation* *Guessed Channel Layout for Input Stream #1.0 : stereo* *Input #1, alsa, from 'pulse':* * Duration: N/A, start: 1409951144.268999, bitrate: 1536 kb/s* * Stream #1:0: Audio: pcm_s16le, 48000 Hz, 2 channels, s16, 1536 kb/s* *No pixel format specified, yuv422p for H.264 encoding chosen.* *Use -pix_fmt yuv420p for compatibility with outdated media players.* *[libx264 @ 0xfd29a0] Warning: not compiled with thread support, using thread emulation* *[libx264 @ 0xfd29a0] using cpu capabilities: MMX2 SSE2Fast SSSE3 SSE4.2 AVX AVX2 FMA3 LZCNT BMI2* *[libx264 @ 0xfd29a0] profile High 4:4:4 Predictive, level 4.2, 4:2:2 8-bit* *[libx264 @ 0xfd29a0] 64 - Numerical histogram output for checking typical broadcast ranges (16-235)
by Christoph Gerstbauer 18 May '15

Hello, I am very new in using the histogram filter. (http://ffmpeg.org/ffmpeg-filters.html#histogram) Is it possible to dump the video level values from which the histogram graph is drawn into numeric values (textfile dump) to check if a video has levels inside the broadcast ranges (16-235/94-940)? bg Christoph

Multithreaded multioutput problem
by Deron 03 May '15

I would like to generate 4 different HLS (sub)streams from a single DVB capture, but ffmpeg fails to keep up with more than 2. Yes, I have the CPU power and I'm writing to a ram disk (or SSD, doesn't matter). I have a dual tuner capture card and can generate two different HLS substreams per tuner (total of 4) with plenty of CPU left to burn. I would guess it is some kind of thread limit but I can't seem to get past it. Any suggestions? Below is an example command and output. If I cut out one of the outputs, it works fine. Thanks for your suggestions! Deron ffmpeg -f mpegts -i /dev/dvb/adapter0/dvr0 -c:v libx264 -vf scale=1280:720 -s 1280x720 -aspect 1280:720 -pix_fmt yuv420p -r 29.97 -preset veryfast -b:v 2400k -c:a libfaac -ar 48000 -ac 2 -async 2 -f hls -hls_time 2 -hls_list_size 10 -hls_wrap 20 -y "/var/www/html/stream/WPBF/wpbf.hi.m3u8" -c:v libx264 -vf scale=1280:720 -s 1280x720 -aspect 1280:720 -pix_fmt yuv420p -r 29.97 -preset veryfast -b:v 1200k -c:a libfaac -ar 48000 -ac 2 -async 2 -f hls -hls_time 2 -hls_list_size 10 -hls_wrap 20 -y "/var/www/html/stream/WPBF/wpbf.mid.m3u8" -c:v libx264 -vf scale=1280:720 -s 1280x720 -aspect 1280:720 -pix_fmt yuv420p -r 29.97 -preset veryfast -b:v 600k -c:a libfaac -ar 48000 -ac 2 -async 2 -f hls -hls_time 2 -hls_list_size 10 -hls_wrap 20 -y "/var/www/html/stream/WPBF/wpbf.low.m3u8" -vn -c:a libfaac -b:a 30k -ar 24000 -ac 1 -f hls -hls_time 2 -hls_list_size 10 -hls_wrap 20 -y "/var/www/html/stream/WPBF/wpbf.a.m3u8" ffmpeg version N-69206-g4b46ce8 Copyright (c) 2000-2015 the FFmpeg developers built on Jan 22 2015 18:39:59 with gcc 4.8 (Ubuntu 4.8.2-19ubuntu1) configuration: --enable-shared --enable-gpl --enable-nonfree --enable-libxvid --enable-libx264 --enable-libmp3lame --enable-libvorbis --enable-libfaac --enable-libopenjpeg libavutil 54. 17.100 / 54. 17.100 libavcodec 56. 20.100 / 56. 20.100 libavformat 56. 19.100 / 56. 19.100 libavdevice 56. 4.100 / 56. 4.100 libavfilter 5. 8.101 / 5. 8.101 libswscale 3. 1.101 / 3. 1.101 libswresample 1. 1.100 / 1. 1.100 libpostproc 53. 3.100 / 53. 3.100 [mpeg2video @ 0x1c430a0] Invalid frame dimensions 0x0. Problem in FFMPEG 1.1
by Simone Cercignani 14 Apr '15

14 Apr '15

Hi, I am trying to compile ffmpeg 1.1 with: ./configure --toolchain=msvc I have followed the instruction at: https://ffmpeg.org/platform.html#Microsoft-Visual-C_002b_002b but after that command: Simone@Simone-PC /c/Jobs/ffmpeg-1.1 $ ./configure toolchain=msvc c99wrap cl is unable to create an executable file. If c99wrap cl is a cross-compiler, use the --enable-cross-compile option. Only do this if you know what cross compiling means. C compiler test failed. If you think configure made a mistake, make sure you are using the latest version from Git. If the latest version fails, report the problem to the ffmpeg-user(a)ffmpeg.org mailing list or IRC #ffmpeg on irc.freenode.net. Include the log file "config.log" produced by configure as this will help solving the problem. Simone@Simone-PC /c/Jobs/ffmpeg-1.1 $ in attachment the "config.log" file.... Thanks in advance Simone

Converting MPEG-TS to MKV with hard coded subtitles produces error message
by Stuart 09 Apr '15

Hello, I want to convert an MPEG-TS from a Humax PVR to a MKV with H.264 encoded video with hard coded DVB subtitles. Unfortunately, having downloaded a build from ffmpeg.zeranoe.com, instead of hard coded subtitles I am getting "sub2video: rectangle overflowing" messages. I've tweaked ffmpeg.c to display the parameters causing the message and built a cut down ffmpeg. (I have built a toolchain using Zeranoe's build script and built libogg, libvorbis, libx264 and pthreads-win32 from source). The message is output because the video stream is 704x576 but the subtitle rectangles are 720 wide. If I tweak function sub2video_prepare in ffmpeg_filter.c to hard code the canvas width and height to be 720 and 576 respectively then I can produce an MKV with hard coded DVB subtitles with the command: ffmpeg -i in.TS -filter_complex "[0:v]pad=720:576[main];[main][0:s]overlay" -sn out.MKV I've tried cropping the subtitle stream before overlaying but still get the "sub2video: rectangle overflowing" messages with the Zeranoe build. I've also tried scaling the video stream and padding the video stream. I think the canvas size is assigned equal to the video stream size before applying the filters. Hence, scaling or padding the video stream doesn't increase the canvas size to match the subtitle rectangle dimensions. Is there a filter sequence that would accommodate the subtitle rectangle dimensions being larger than the video stream dimensions? Or does the sub2video "hack" not cater for this situation? Many thanks, Stu
