Decklink Capture
by Reuben Martin 20 Apr '16

20 Apr '16

I’ve built 2.6.0 with decklink support, but I haven’t been able to work out how to interface with it. (Even after poking around in the code) Is there info / documentation on this somewhere? Specifically I can’t figure out how to set the audio / video input types and modes. -Reuben

Generating aligned HLS segments for ABR delivery
by Stefan Moro 08 Apr '16

08 Apr '16

Hi, I am using the segment muxer as part of a system to create an adaptive HLS stream. The segment muxer creates MPEG-TS segments from key-frame-aligned, closed-GOP and audio aligned renditions of the same content. The renditions are transcoded such that is should be possible to segment them into PTS aligned, equal length segments. One of the renditions is encoded with H264 high profile, which utilizes B-frames. When the high profile rendition is segmented, I see that it has a different start PTS than the segments of the other renditions. It seems that this causes the number of audio frames in the high profile segments to differ from the number of audio frames in the other segments. I am aware that it might make sense to change the start PTS of an MPEG TS in order to avoid a negative DTS, but since all renditions start with a key-frame, we should not encounter a negative DTS. What I want is to not change any timing information at all, which would ensure that each segment has the same number of video- and audio frames with the same timing information. Is there any way for me to do this? I have tried several combinations of vsync, copyts, avoid_negative_ts etc, but with no success. The segments of the high profile rendition always has a different number of audio frames compared the segments of the other renditions. If it would help, adding the same offset to all A/V timestamps would also be OK, e.g. adding 10 seconds to every timestamp. The important thing is that all timestamps stay the same, relative to each other. Below is the version of ffmpeg I last tried with and one version of the ffmpeg command line I tried with. As I mentioned above, I also tried many other variations using -copyts, -vsync, avoid_negative_ts, muxdelay, mpegts_copyts etc but I'm posting the "basic" version of the command here. Can't use some frei0r effects on Windows (through FFmpeg)
by Bohdan Prokopovych 08 Apr '16

08 Apr '16

Hi. I'm using FFmpeg with frei0r library enabled, and everything works just fine except several effects. I can't make Cartoon and Edgeglow effects to work. Lot of other works ok, except these two. I hit this issue only on Windows, everything is ok on OS X. There is some problem in my cartoon.dll and edgeglow.dll files — FFmpeg just don't see them in my FREI0R_PATH variable. I'll provide FFmpeg output for cartoon effect. As I can see FFmpeg looks for cartoon.dll in my FREI0R_PATH and can't see it there (but it's there). This problem happenes only with cartoon and edgeglow. All the rest frei0r effects which where compiled in the same way and are located in the same folder works as expected. Thanks for help. ----------------------- My FFmpeg command: > -v debug -i C:\path\to\input.mp4 -vf frei0r=filter_name=cartoon -pix_fmt yuva420p -y -codec:v libx264 -strict -2 C:\path\to\output.mp4 > > FFmpeg output: > ffmpeg version N-76262-g2ccc1b3 Copyright (c) 2000-2015 the FFmpeg developers built with gcc 5.2.0 (GCC) configuration: --enable-gpl --enable-version3 --disable-w32threads --enable-avisynth --enable-bzlib --enable-fontconfig --enable-frei0r --enable-gnutls --enable-iconv --enable-libass --enable-libbluray --enable-libbs2b --enable-libcaca --enable-libdcadec --enable-libfreetype --enable-libgme --enable-libgsm --enable-libilbc --enable-libmodplug --enable-libmp3lame --enable-libopencore-amrnb --enable-libopencore-amrwb --enable-libopenjpeg --enable-libopus --enable-librtmp --enable-libschroedinger --enable-libsoxr --enable-libspeex --enable-libtheora --enable-libtwolame --enable-libvidstab --enable-libvo-aacenc --enable-libvo-amrwbenc --enable-libvorbis --enable-libvpx --enable-libwavpack --enable-libwebp --enable-libx264 --enable-libx265 --enable-libxavs --enable-libxvid --enable-lzma --enable-decklink --enable-zlib libavutil 55. 4.100 / 55. 4.100 libavcodec 57. 9.100 / 57. 9.100 libavformat 57. 11.100 / 57. 11.100 libavdevice 57. 0.100 / 57. 0.100 libavfilter 6. 13.100 / 6. 13.100 libswscale 4. 0.100 / 4. 0.100 libswresample 2. 0.100 / 2. 0.100 libpostproc 54. 0.100 / 54. 0.100Input #0, mov,mp4,m4a,3gp,3g2,mj2, from 'C:\path\to\input.mp4': Metadata: major_brand : isom minor_version : 512 compatible_brands: isomiso2avc1mp41 encoder : Lavf56.40.101 Duration: 00:00:10.04, start: 0.036281, bitrate: 1193 kb/s Stream #0:0(und), 1, 1/15360: Video: h264 (High), 1 reference frame (avc1 / 0x31637661), yuv420p(left), 1280x720 [SAR 1:1 DAR 16:9], 1/60, 1061 kb/s, 30 fps, 30 tbr, 15360 tbn, 60 tbc (default) Metadata: handler_name : VideoHandler Stream #0:1(und), 2, 1/44100: Audio: aac (LC) (mp4a / 0x6134706D), 44100 Hz, stereo, fltp, 128 kb/s (default) Metadata: handler_name : SoundHandlerSuccessfully opened the file.Parsing a group of options: output file C:\path\to\output.mp4.Applying option vf (set video filters) with argument frei0r=filter_name=cartoon.Applying option pix_fmt (set pixel format) with argument yuva420p.Applying option codec:v (codec name) with argument libx264.Successfully parsed a group of options.Opening an output file: C:\path\to\output.mp4.Successfully opened the file.detected 4 logical cores[Parsed_frei0r_0 @ 0371dbe0] compat: called with args=[filter_name=cartoon][Parsed_frei0r_0 @ 0371dbe0] Setting 'filter_name' to value 'cartoon'[Parsed_frei0r_0 @ 0371dbe0] Looking for frei0r effect in 'C:\Users\root\resources\frei0r/cartoon.dll'.[Parsed_frei0r_0 @ 0371dbe0] Looking for frei0r effect in '/usr/local/lib/frei0r-1/cartoon.dll'.[Parsed_frei0r_0 @ 0371dbe0] Looking for frei0r effect in '/usr/lib/frei0r-1/cartoon.dll'.[Parsed_frei0r_0 @ 0371dbe0] Looking for frei0r effect in '/usr/local/lib64/frei0r-1/cartoon.dll'.[Parsed_frei0r_0 @ 0371dbe0] Looking for frei0r effect in '/usr/lib64/frei0r-1/cartoon.dll'.[Parsed_frei0r_0 @ 0371dbe0] Could not find module 'cartoon'.[AVFilterGraph @ 04cc7080] Error initializing filter 'frei0r' with args 'filter_name=cartoon'Error opening filters![AVIOContext @ 04daec60] Statistics: 0 seeks, 0 writeouts[AVIOContext @ 0371e8a0] Statistics: 75284 bytes read, 2 seeks > >

Does anyone have a working ffmpeg -> ffserver config for hls/m3u8?
by Ricardo Kleemann 07 Apr '16

I've been searching around the net found only a few examples but so far not having much success. My objective is to get a camera stream (available as input to ffmpeg as m3u8) and feed it to ffserver, and play it out also as m3u8. First, what I'm doing is simulating that by taking an mp4 file as input instead. Here's the info on the sample file: ~/bin/ffmpeg -i sample.mp4 ffmpeg version 2.6.git Copyright (c) 2000-2015 the FFmpeg developers built with gcc 4.8 (Ubuntu 4.8.2-19ubuntu1) configuration: --prefix=/home/ubuntu/ffmpeg_build --pkg-config-flags=--static --extra-cflags=-I/home/ubuntu/ffmpeg_build/include --extra-ldflags=-L/home/ubuntu/ffmpeg_build/lib --bindir=/home/ubuntu/bin --enable-gpl --enable-libass --enable-libfdk-aac --enable-libfreetype --enable-libmp3lame --enable-libopus --enable-libtheora --enable-libvorbis --enable-libvpx --enable-libx264 --enable-libx265 --enable-nonfree libavutil 54. 23.101 / 54. 23.101 libavcodec 56. 35.101 / 56. 35.101 libavformat 56. 31.100 / 56. 31.100 libavdevice 56. 4.100 / 56. 4.100 libavfilter 5. 16.100 / 5. 16.100 libswscale 3. 1.101 / 3. 1.101 libswresample 1. 1.100 / 1. 1.100 libpostproc 53. 3.100 / 53. 3.100 Input #0, mov,mp4,m4a,3gp,3g2,mj2, from 'sample.mp4': Metadata: major_brand : qt minor_version : 512 compatible_brands: qt creation_time : 1970-01-01 00:00:00 encoder : Lavf52.73.0 Duration: 00:09:56.46, start: 0.000000, bitrate: 524 kb/s Stream #0:0(eng): Video: h264 (Constrained Baseline) (avc1 / 0x31637661), yuv420p, 424x240, 420 kb/s, 24 fps, 24 tbr, 24 tbn, 48 tbc (default) Metadata: creation_time : 1970-01-01 00:00:00 handler_name : DataHandler encoder : libx264 Stream #0:1(eng): Audio: aac (LC) (mp4a / 0x6134706D), 48000 Hz, stereo, fltp, 99 kb/s (default) Metadata: creation_time : 1970-01-01 00:00:00 handler_name : DataHandler Here's my ffmpeg feed to ffserver. ~/bin/ffmpeg -re -i sample.mp4 -c copy -hls_time 10 -hls_list_size 6 -hls_wrap 18 -start_number 1 -override_ffserver http://localhost:8090/feed1.ffm ffmpeg version 2.6.git Copyright (c) 2000-2015 the FFmpeg developers built with gcc 4.8 (Ubuntu 4.8.2-19ubuntu1) configuration: --prefix=/home/ubuntu/ffmpeg_build --pkg-config-flags=--static --extra-cflags=-I/home/ubuntu/ffmpeg_build/include --extra-ldflags=-L/home/ubuntu/ffmpeg_build/lib --bindir=/home/ubuntu/bin --enable-gpl --enable-libass --enable-libfdk-aac --enable-libfreetype --enable-libmp3lame --enable-libopus --enable-libtheora --enable-libvorbis --enable-libvpx --enable-libx264 --enable-libx265 --enable-nonfree libavutil 54. 23.101 / 54. 23.101 libavcodec 56. 35.101 / 56. 35.101 libavformat 56. 31.100 / 56. 31.100 libavdevice 56. 4.100 / 56. 4.100 libavfilter 5. 16.100 / 5. 16.100 libswscale 3. 1.101 / 3. 1.101 libswresample 1. 1.100 / 1. 1.100 libpostproc 53. 3.100 / 53. 3.100 Input #0, mov,mp4,m4a,3gp,3g2,mj2, from 'sample.mp4': Metadata: major_brand : qt minor_version : 512 compatible_brands: qt creation_time : 1970-01-01 00:00:00 encoder : Lavf52.73.0 Duration: 00:09:56.46, start: 0.000000, bitrate: 524 kb/s Stream #0:0(eng): Video: h264 (Constrained Baseline) (avc1 / 0x31637661), yuv420p, 424x240, 420 kb/s, 24 fps, 24 tbr, 24 tbn, 48 tbc (default) Metadata: creation_time : 1970-01-01 00:00:00 handler_name : DataHandler encoder : libx264 Stream #0:1(eng): Audio: aac (LC) (mp4a / 0x6134706D), 48000 Hz, stereo, fltp, 99 kb/s (default) Metadata: creation_time : 1970-01-01 00:00:00 handler_name : DataHandler Output #0, ffm, to 'http://localhost:8090/feed1.ffm': Metadata: major_brand : qt minor_version : 512 compatible_brands: qt creation_time : now encoder : Lavf56.31.100 Stream #0:0(eng): Video: h264 (avc1 / 0x31637661), yuv420p, 424x240, q=2-31, 420 kb/s, 24 fps, 24 tbr, 1000k tbn, 24 tbc (default) Metadata: creation_time : 1970-01-01 00:00:00 handler_name : DataHandler encoder : libx264 Stream #0:1(eng): Audio: aac (mp4a / 0x6134706D), 48000 Hz, stereo, 99 kb/s (default) Metadata: creation_time : 1970-01-01 00:00:00 handler_name : DataHandler Stream mapping: Stream #0:0 -> #0:0 (copy) Stream #0:1 -> #0:1 (copy) Using username "ubuntu". Proper syntax for flashVer option for rtmp protocol
by Jonathan Douglas 04 Apr '16

04 Apr '16

I downloaded a Linux ffmpeg binary that appears to have been built with librtmp "enabled". I have been attempting to publish a rtmp stream(with authentication) to Wowza with this ffmpeg image. One of the complaints that Wowza is sending back is the fact that it says the client isn't one of its valid encoders. I was under the impression I could address that wiith the flashVer option at the ffmpeg command line. I have added that option and never see that version string included in the connect message to the Wowza server. I was wondering if someone has used the flashVer option successfully (actually seen it in the connect message). If so, would you mind sharing the syntax of your command line

fading multiple graphic overlays
by Christian Johannesen 01 Apr '16

01 Apr '16

I'm able to use ffmpeg to fade the same graphic overlays multiple times but I wonder if i'm not using the right approach. When I use 1 overlay the process runs at 35fps, but if I try to overlay the same graphic 3 times the performance drops to 14fps. Thanks, Chris 1 graphic overlay: D:\ffmpeg\ffmpeg-20160330-git-be746ae-win64-static\bin ffmpeg -i D:\overlaytest\base.mov -loop 1 -i D:\overlaytest\overlay.png -filter_complex 4.6 kernel timeframe?
by Tom Horsley 31 Mar '16

When is a fedora release likely to have the 4.6 kernel (I suspect fedora 25)? I saw rumors the nvidia maxwell card firmware will finally be included in 4.6 and it might finally be possible to use nouveau with my graphics card, so I'm just wondering when I might be able to stop fooling with nvidia binary drivers.

Identifying an MP4 file
by Sreenath BH 31 Mar '16

Hi All, We have a HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) setup where we transcode incoming video files to H264 video and AAC audio and build playlist files from that. We want to avoid this step if the input file is already a MP4 file. I know that MP4 is just a container and does not imply H264 and AAC. I am planning to check the audio and video codec IDs in our program after getting the stream information using avformat_find_stream_info. So, if the video codec ID and Audio codec ID are respectively, AV_CODEC_ID_H264 and AV_CODEC_ID_AAC Is it sufficient to qualify it as a MP4 file? The reason I ask is that there are some flv files that use the same codecs, but I am not sure if it would be safe it to treat it on par with an "authentic" mp4 file. Are there any things that I need to check before concluding that the video is fit for HLS streaming? thanks, Sreenath

Live-Stream + change source in running process?
by Jens Kallup 31 Mar '16

Hello, I search for a possibility to generate an ffmpeg stream, that records my screen (e.g. 1024x728), shrink it to much lower size (to speed up the transmission) including sound. Next, is it possible to create running channels e.g. 3 channels on one server. And monitor it so, that the user don't be mention it. The next, is it possible to change the sources? e.g. A user program like a messenger has the control input, eventual like a multiple stream in one, like a conference, or single stream, the user can share his desktop to stream the source to other peoples in a chat, e-learning enviroment...? And all the monitors or overhand has an administrator, to control the stream(s) in context of illegal content. May be time shared - e.g.: only streaming allowed from 08:00 - 14:00 time. Hope you can understand me, or have new ideas for new features and tips how to solve.
