*QUESTION 1:* How do I add a STR file to a MPEG-TS file with the "DVB subtitle codec"? If so, could you give me a sample command line? Thank. I am trying: ffmpeg -i video.ts *-i subtitle.srt* -vcodec copy -acodec copy *-scodec dvbsub* output.ts The stream is created because I can see it with MediaInfo, but the subtitles don't appear! *QUESTION 2:* How do I use the command *slang*? I try to use it, but ffmpeg says the command doesn't exist. Thank you.

Can't stop recording

I'm trying to capture a stream from a webcam, and it says "press [q] to stop, [?] for help". But neither of those keys has any effect. The only way I can get it to stop is by pressing ctrl-C repeatedly, and then it gives an error and the output file is not playable. I'm running ffmpeg in Terminal in OS X 10.10.5. native AAC encoder - VBR quality

Hi, you recently improved the quality of the AAC encoder and recomended to use the native FFMPEG AAC encoder over the external encoders like libfdk_aac or libfaac. Regarding the quality of the encoder using Variable Bitrate the wiki still states: "This VBR is experimental and likely to get even worse results than the CBR." (https://trac.ffmpeg.org/wiki/Encode/AAC) What does this mean? Has the quality of the VBR encoder not improved with the recent changes? Best, Bernhard Döbler

Can't get TLS to work

Hello, I want to stream from a server an encrypted video to be received and displayed in an app. I found documentation that seems to indicate ffmpeg supports TLS: https://www.ffmpeg.org/ffmpeg-protocols.html#tls First when running a local server and client via tcp as follows, all works fine: Terminal 1: ffmpeg -re -i bikerace.mkv -vcodec libx264 -f mpegts tcp:// 0.0.0.0:5000?listen Terminal 2: ffplay tcp:/0.0.0.0:5000 When running a similar command trying to use tls as indicated in the documentation, the server side doesn't seem quite right, though no error, and the client just fails with a "Protocol not found" error. Here are the commands: Terminal 1: ffmpeg -re -i bikerace.mkv -vcodec libx264 -f mpegts tls:// 0.0.0.0:5000?listen&cert=server.crt&key=server.key Terminal 2: ffplay tls:/0.0.0.0:5000 What am I doing wrong? is tls really supported? Or is the doc a little bit ahead of itself? Thanks!

H264 VAAPI Encoder

Hi everyone, I noticed that recently a VAAPI based H264 encoder was added to ffmpeg. I built ffmpeg from git and now I have h264_vaapi listed in ffmpeg -encoders output. However, when I try to use ffmpeg ... -vcodec h264_vaapi I get the following error: Impossible to convert between the formats supported by the filter 'Parsed_null_0' and the filter 'auto-inserted scaler 0' The command I use is: ffmpeg -hwaccel vaapi -i <inputfile> -vcodec h264_vaapi <outfile>.mkv I'm trying this on Intel Skylake GT2 HW on Linux x86_64, using libva and libva-intel driver from git master in combination with linux 4.6.0-rc7. Can anyone assist here? Thanks!

Help, cannot connect to my webcam (message : Could not RenderStream to connect pins, I/O error)

Hi, trying to use ffmpeg to capture screen, I connected my old un-used web cam (Microsoft LifeCam VX-6000 to my windows 7 notebook. according to the directions on the web, in the ffmpeg prompt, I entered > ffmpeg -list_devices true -f dshow -i dummy to see the web cam is recognized by ffmpeg. (It read "Microsoft LifeCam VX-6000") So I endtered to record the screen, > ffmpeg -f dshow -i video="Microsoft LifeCam VX-6000" test.mp4 but it gave me error below : [dshow @ 000000000046a9a0] Could not RenderStream to connect pins video=Microsoft LifeCam VX-6000: I/O error I looked it up on the web and tried reconnecting the web cam, and installing K-Lite codec pack for no avail. H264 encoder: Bad video output.

Hi every one, I'm streaming a live channel but after a random amount of time, the video become scrambled (Unviewable output, there's a sample in this link refs3.ts: https://www.dropbox.com/s/99te0h2fldz8s9f/refs3.ts?dl=0) The input is channel 4 HD from Astra 2G (28.2°E) (the issue is only with some HD channels) I'm using mumudvb to send the stream to ffmpeg. The problem is that when the video become scrambled when I check the source (direct stream from mumudvb) the stream works fine. I'm not sure that this is the problem, I made several modification on the h264 parameters but still no luck.
