HLS accurate seeking vs MP4
by Louis Letourneau 25 Oct '18

25 Oct '18

I seem to be having issues seeking accurately in HLS videos, but it works fine in other containers (mp4, mkv, etc) tried with ffmpeg version 3.4.4 and master If I create an HLS video like this mkdir a;ffmpeg -y -s 640x480 -f rawvideo -pix_fmt rgb24 -r 25 -i /dev/zero -vf "drawtext=fontfile=/usr/share/fonts/truetype/freefont/FreeMono.ttf: text=%{n}: x=(w-tw)/2: y=h-(2*lh): fontcolor=white: box=1: boxcolor=0x000000FF" -an -vcodec libx264 -preset medium -tune stillimage -crf 24 -pix_fmt yuv420p -shortest -force_key_frames "expr:gte(t,n_forced*5)" -bf 0 -hls_time 5 -hls_list_size 0 -hls_wrap 0 -hls_allow_cache 1 -hls_segment_filename "a/a_%04d.ts" -t 60 a/a.m3u8 And also create it's mp4 counterpart: ffmpeg -i a/a.m3u8 -codec copy a.mp4 And try to seek in any segment: F=130;rm -f f.png;ffmpeg -y -ss `awk "BEGIN {print (${F})/25}"` -i a/a.m3u8 -f image2 -q:v 1 -vframes 1 f.png ; feh f.png Got frame 250 (bad) F=126;rm -f f.png;ffmpeg -y -ss `awk "BEGIN {print (${F})/25}"` -i a/a.m3u8 -f image2 -q:v 1 -vframes 1 f.png ; feh f.png Got frame 250 (bad) F=125;rm -f f.png;ffmpeg -y -ss `awk "BEGIN {print (${F})/25}"` -i a/a.m3u8 -f image2 -q:v 1 -vframes 1 f.png ; feh f.png Got frame 125 (good) F=124;rm -f f.png;ffmpeg -y -ss `awk "BEGIN {print (${F})/25}"` -i a/a.m3u8 -f image2 -q:v 1 -vframes 1 f.png ; feh f.png Got frame 125 (bad) Now try the same with the mp4 and you'll always get the exact right frame F=130;rm -f f.png;ffmpeg -y -ss `awk "BEGIN {print (${F})/25}"` -i a.mp4 -f image2 -q:v 1 -vframes 1 f.png ; feh f.png Got 130 (good) F=126;rm -f f.png;ffmpeg -y -ss `awk "BEGIN {print (${F})/25}"` -i a.mp4 -f image2 -q:v 1 -vframes 1 f.png ; feh f.png Got 126 (good) etc it seems to be seeking on segment boundaries only. Of course, if I put -ss after the input '-i' I seek accurately but it's an output parameter now so it takes much longer since it's decoding all the frames (also doesn't work with multiple input maps). And according to 'https://trac.ffmpeg.org/wiki/Seeking' input seeking should be accurate Is this a bug or I am missing a parameter? (BTW, I posted this same question in Nov 2016 without a valid answer. If no one can answer this time, I'll open a bug) Thanks Louis

Re: [FFmpeg-user] YUV RGB Video Levels
by Chris 25 Oct '18

25 Oct '18

Here is the command line I've been using. Note that I am "cheating" by using lutrgb on a yuv file. ffmpeg -y -i "D:\Videos\SonyAX53\C0060.MP4" -crf 0 -s 1280X720 -c:v huffyuv -pix_fmt yuv420p -s 1280x720 -r 59.94 -vf unsharp=luma_msize_x=7:luma_msize_y=7:luma_amount=-0.70,eq=brightness=0.00:saturation=1.00:gamma=0.81,lutyuv=y='clip(val*1.20,16,240)',lutrgb=r='clip(val,16,205)',lutrgb=g='clip(val,16,246)',lutrgb=b='clip(val,16,246)' -c:a copy processed.mkv Here is EBU r103. Ideally the y, r, g and b levels would range from 5 to 246 (8-bit video). In any event they MUST range from 1 - 254 as the values 0 and 255 are reserved for sync. https://tech.ebu.ch/docs/r/r103.pdf I have begun to try converting the y, u and v samples to rgb using pix_fmt rgb24 and have had some success but am having trouble making the rgb values meet the exact clip values I specify. lutrgb=r='clip(val,16,180)',lutrgb=g='clip(val,16,180)',lutrgb=b='clip(val,16,180)' I have set the clip values to 180 for testing. The source video is from a camcorder. -----Original Message----- From: Carl Eugen Hoyos <ceffmpeg(a)gmail.com> To: FFmpeg user questions <ffmpeg-user(a)ffmpeg.org> Sent: Wed, Oct 24, 2018 3:20 am Subject: Re: [FFmpeg-user] YUV RGB Video Levels 2018-10-22 23:54 GMT+02:00, Chris <c319chris-at-aol.com(a)ffmpeg.org>: > I have a strange question. > > I have a YUV video file which must pass EBU r103. YUV RGB Video Levels
by Chris 24 Oct '18

24 Oct '18

I have a strange question. I have a YUV video file which must pass EBU r103. The RGB components must be above 0 and less than 255. How would I use ffmpeg to correct the levels of the R, G and B components of YUV video? According to the docs, lutrgb works only on RGB video, not YUV. I'm not sure this can be accomplished by bringing down the Y level using lutyuv or by reducing saturation. Thank you.

Optimise XDCAMHD422 Picture Quality - Syntax questions
by Chris von Görstinger 23 Oct '18

23 Oct '18

Hello I am using this syntax to generate a XDCAMHD422 file: -c:v mpeg2video -r 25 -pix_fmt yuv422p -s 1920x1080 -aspect 16:9 -minrate 50000k -maxrate 50000k -b:v 50000k -g 12 -flags +ildct+ilme -intra_vlc 1 -dc 10 -non_linear_quant 1 -bf 2 -qmin 1 -qmax 12 -top 1 -bufsize 17825792 -rc_init_occupancy 17825792 -rc_min_vbv_use 1 -rc_max_vbv_use 1 -sc_threshold 1000000000 -lmin "1*QP2LAMBDA" -vtag xd5c -color_range tv -color_primaries bt709 -color_trc bt709 -c:a pcm_s24le -ar 48000 -f mxf -timecode 12:34:56:11 -max_muxing_queue_size 1024 -metadata "creation_time=2015-10-28T15:37:56" I mentioned by checking frame by frame with an editing tool (after effects) that there are some frame with very much blockingess. I tried with qmin/qman different values and surprisingly when using qmin=4 then the quality gets better. With qmin4 there are still tiny blocks (looks better than qmin=1), and I now from other transcoders that the frames were these tiny blocks happen CAN BE better encoded so that no blocks are visible for the whole GOP. My questions are: 1.) Why do I get a better quality with qmin=4 instead of qmin=1? -> Maybe is datarate saved with qmin=4 which can be used for other frames were it is needed more? 2.) How can I improve the encoding a little bit more here in ffmpeg regarding the picture quality? br Christoph

Replacing a segment of audio
by Steve Bick 22 Oct '18

22 Oct '18

I'm trying to replace just a segment of audio in an existing video with another piece of audio. Goal: I have a video w/ audio, and want to replace just the audio in a middle segment of the video without affecting the rest of the video and audio. The closest I've come is using this: ----- ffmpeg.exe -y -i "Video.mp4" -i "AudioToReplace.mp3" -filter_complex "[0:a]atrim=0:316,asetpts=PTS-STARTPTS[aud1];[1:a]atrim=0:172,asetpts=PTS-ST ARTPTS[aud2]" -map 0:v -map "[aout]" -c:v copy -c:a libmp3lame New.mp4 ----- It results in the audio being replaced in the beginning of the video and the rest of the audio shifted. I'm having a difficult time understanding what the 'filter_complex' and 'map' parameters are doing but I think I'm getting close. Can someone please explain these and help me adjust my command above in order to achieve my goal? Thanks!
