Audio Meter filter
by Martin Vignali 30 Mar '18

30 Mar '18

Hello, I would like to show an audio meter from an audio file (something like what edit software display or like Audacity display) I try the showvolume filter, but the result is not what i would like to have. My command line : "C:\ffmpeg-20180329-af043b8-win64-static\bin\ffmpeg.exe" -i "D:\RefSon100Hz_Son_PCM18_03_30_18h21m17s.wav" -filter_complex "[0:a]showvolume=w=340:h=5:o=v:f=1.:p=1.:t=0:m=r:v=0[v]" -map "[v]" -c:v qtrle "D:\resAudioMeter004.mov" My input test file : https://we.tl/X6L69kEWAN Contains : 1000 Hz -12Db, then - 18 db, then 0 Db. If i use the peak option, i have no difference between -12 and -18 db And the "scale" is not what i would like to have (would like to have -12 / - 18 Db more close to the max level If i use the rms option, the scale is very low for all "level", and no differences between -12 and -18 Db. Is there another filter for that ? Thanks by advance Martin

NEED HELP PLEASE!! Soft subtitles DVB subtitles stream, 1080p size problem on direct convert a MPEG-TS video
by Eleftherios Antoniades 30 Mar '18

Hi, Here is my case: I have a MPEG-TS video file with one video and one audio stream and i am trying to create a direct video convert with adding a DVBSUB stream inside it. My original subs file is a stl file. After many workarounds i finally managed to add the DVBSUB stream, after converting the stl file into a sub file with idx. I used the idx, so i get the palette information correct. So the command i used is: ffmpeg -i testvideo.ts -i subtitles.idx -map 0:v -map 0:a -map 1 -c:v copy -c:a copy -c:s:0 dvbsub -metadata:s:s:0 language=ell -streamid 2:151 output.ts The video and subtitles size is 1920x1080, but the output.ts file comes out with wrong subtitles size. It looks like the dvbsub codec converts the dvbsubs stream in 720 size by default, rather 1080?? Is there a way to force the subs into the correct size? Or, is there another way (another codec maybe) to achieve that? Best regards Lefteris

Need Help For Splitting, Re-Encoding and Joining again
by Faraz Ahmed 29 Mar '18

29 Mar '18

Hi, We want to encode large video files faster. To make encoding faster we are using multiple encoding servers. Below is our process of encoding flow 1. First we split the video into small segments using below command 2. ffmpeg -i F:\video_data_set\4k_compressed.mp4 -f segment -segment_time 5 -segment_start_number 1 -codec copy -copyts -avoid_negative_ts 1 F:\video_data_set\test\%d_4k_compressed.mp4 3. Then we divide these segments among multiple encoding servers 4. Each encoding server re-encode the segment using below command 5. ffmpeg -hide_banner -i F:\video_data_set\test\1_4k_compressed.mp4 -c:a aac -ar 44100 -b:a 128k -c:v libx264 -x264opts nal-hrd=cbr:force-cfr=1 -pix_fmt yuv420p -profile:v baseline -level 3.0 -vf "scale=1280:-2,setdar=16:9" -b:v 3.9M -minrate 3.9M -maxrate 3.9M -bufsize 7.8M -preset ultrafast -crf 18 -r 30 -g 30 -threads 8 F:\video_data_set\test\1_4k_compressed_1.mp4 6. When all segments have re-encoded then we join them to make single file using below command 7. ffmpeg -hide_banner -f concat -safe 0 -i F:\video_data_set\test\files_2.txt -c copy -threads 8 F:\video_data_set\4k_compressed_1.mp4 All is performing well but the issue we are facing is that after each segment there is click sound in output audio. For example i have encoded 5 segments having duration 6,6,3,6 and 6 seconds when i joined them using above mentioned command the output video has click sound at 6,12,15 and 21 seconds of video. I am also sharing my output video link below. https://www.dropbox.com/s/2dugqt944n19s2j/4k_compressed_1.mp4?dl=0 Can you please help me and let me know what is the cause of this click sound and how to fix and remove this click sound from output video. Thanks, Faraz

h264_vaapi missing frames
by Kai Hendry 28 Mar '18

Hi there, With my brand new Intel 8th gen laptop (Intel Corporation UHD Graphics 620 (rev 07) with 8 core Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8550U CPU @ 1.80GHz on Archlinux, I thought I'd experiment with hardware accelerated capture as opposed to my normal 2-step approach of 1) recording to mkv https://github.com/kaihendry/recordmydesktop2.0/blob/master/x11capture 2) converting mkv to mp4 https://github.com/kaihendry/recordmydesktop2.0/blob/master/htmlvideo However with -vaapi_device /dev/dri/renderD128 -movflags +faststart -vf 'format=nv12|vaapi,hwupload' -c:v h264_vaapi it seems to skip frames. https://s.natalian.org/2018-03-20/1521512464.mp4.log https://s.natalian.org/2018-03-20/1521512464.mp4 Ffprobe seems to say it's 30fps: Stream #0:0(und): Video: h264 (High) (avc1 / 0x31637661), yuv420p, 2560x1440, 722 kb/s, 29.97 fps, 29.97 tbr, 30k tbn, 59.94 tbc (default) But during playback, it would appear not! Is there a good way to test or know I've dropped frames in my screen capture? How can I prevent frame dropping? Kind regards,

Low latency H.264 streaming with ffmpeg
by Greger Burman 27 Mar '18

27 Mar '18

I would like to hear from anyone who has experience with low latency video streaming and ffmpeg. In my application I take video from a PCIe capture device and stream live over network. The end to end latency must be below 200ms otherwise it is not usable. Let us assume that the network latency is near zero. This question is about encoder+decoder+buffering latency. Very low latency can be achieved when using the x264 encoder by using settings like tune zerolatency. From my own testing with x264 (without ffmpeg) I can confirm that this works. I have measured approx 90 ms (3 frames) of latency added by encoder+decoder combined. Awesome. Sadly I have been unable to get anywhere near those numbers when using ffmpeg and libx264. As player I use either ffplay or a dot-net player built on the ffmpeg libraries, with about equal results. The lowest end to end latency I have seen is 400-500ms. That includes capture latency also. Yes, there are many unknowns here. To help pin point the problem I used mjpeg streaming for comparison. Same everything except I change ffmpeg vcodec to mjpeg and format to mjpeg. I change nothing with ffplay. With mjpeg I now get approx 150ms end to end latency. Observation: x264 codec + mpegts format compared to mjpeg codec + mjpeg format adds about 300 ms (10 frames) latency. I have tried every ffplay-, ffmpeg- and libx264 setting that I believe relevant. Most have not made any noticable difference in latency. I will not list a lot of settings here. Here are the basic settings and commands that I have used. I can post more details on request. x264-preset: vcodec=libx264 thread_type=slice slices=1 # x264 profile=baseline level=32 preset=superfast tune=zerolatency intra-refresh=1 crf=15 x264-params=vbv-maxrate=5000:vbv-bufsize=1:slice-max-size=1500:keyint=60 $ ffmpeg -r 30 -f dshow -i video="devicename" -pix_fmt yuv420p -an -vpre x264-preset -f mpegts udp://127.0.0.1:8888 $ ffplay -fflags nobuffer -flags low_delay -framedrop -strict experimental udp://127.0.0.1:8888 Everything is run on Windows 7 64-bit, with 32-bit executables. ffmpeg version N-76539-g480bad7 Copyright (c) 2000-2015 the FFmpeg developers built with gcc 5.2.0 (GCC) configuration: --enable-gpl --enable-version3 --disable-w32threads --enable-avisynth --enable-bzlib --enable-fontconfig --enable-frei0r --enable-gnutls --enable-iconv --enable-libass --enable-libbluray --enable-libbs2b --enable-libcaca --enable-libdcadec --enable-libfreetype --enable-libgme --enable-libgsm --enable-libilbc --enable-libmodplug --enable-libmp3lame --enable-libopencore-amrnb --enable-libopencore-amrwb --enable-libopenjpeg --enable-libopus --enable-librtmp --enable-libschroedinger --enable-libsoxr --enable-libspeex --enable-libtheora --enable-libtwolame --enable-libvidstab --enable-libvo-aacenc --enable-libvo-amrwbenc --enable-libvorbis --enable-libvpx --enable-libwavpack --enable-libwebp --enable-libx264 --enable-libx265 --enable-libxavs --enable-libxvid --enable-libzimg --enable-lzma --enable-decklink --enable-zlib libavutil 55. 5.100 / 55. 5.100 libavcodec 57. 15.100 / 57. 15.100 libavformat 57. 14.100 / 57. 14.100 libavdevice 57. 0.100 / 57. 0.100 libavfilter 6. 15.100 / 6. 15.100 libswscale 4. 0.100 / 4. 0.100 libswresample 2. 0.101 / 2. 0.101 libpostproc 54. 0.100 / 54. 0.100 cheers -- Greger Burman
