Is FFmpeg capable of transcoding from ArriaRaw to h.264?

Stereoscopic hwaccel
by JackDesBwa 03 Nov '19

03 Nov '19

Hi, I do stereoscopic (3d) photography for a few years and I just start to experiment on stereoscopic videos. The filter_complex argument of ffmpeg allows me to do the editing I have in mind more precisely and less painfully than I was able to do with regular non-linear editors before. Now that the basic editing tools seem to be right for my video projects, I want to accelerate rendering with hardware, and here starts my question. *How to have frame-packing information in h264 streams when generated with hardware acceleration?* I have both a UHD Graphics 620 and GeForce GTX 1050 GPUs on my machine. The first (or at least a graphical subpart integrated to my processor) is accessible with VAAPI while the second can use NVENC. Perhaps there are others ways I am not aware of. Removing the full chain of filter_complex to keep the simplest example, computing using CPU would give: ffmpeg -i aligned/l_01.mp4 -i aligned/r_01.mp4 -filter_complex [0][1]framepack=sbs -c:v libx264 out_libx264.mp4 It takes 22s wall time and produces a 18Mio output. Accelerating with vaapi: ffmpeg -vaapi_device /dev/dri/renderD128 -hwaccel vaapi -hwaccel_output_format vaapi -i aligned/l_01.mp4 -i aligned/r_01.mp4 -filter_complex '[0][1]framepack=sbs,format=nv12|vaapi,hwupload' -c:v h264_vaapi -qp 22 -profile:v high out_vaapi.mp4 It takes 5.6s wall time and produces a 32Mio output. Accelerating with nvenc: ffmpeg -i aligned/l_01.mp4 -i aligned/r_01.mp4 -filter_complex [0][1]framepack=sbs -c:v h264_nvenc -rc:v vbr_hq -qp:v 22 -profile:v high out_nvenc.mp4 It takes 2.7s wall time and produces a 2.3Mio output. The numbers are only for one short 240-frames 3604x1064-unfriendly-dimentions clip here. The nvenc version is fast and create small file, but has very bad quality. Perhaps I do not use the right parameters. The vaapi version is quite fast too, but create a bigger file. Perhaps I should tweak parameters here too. Advices on parameters are welcomed, but the more import thing is the following. *The two accelerated versions do not add the SBS frame-packing information in the stream*. The documentation of framepack filter says that it would set proper metadata on supported codecs. Does it mean that I am stuck with CPU codecs to get the proper output stream with stereo format information in it? JackDesBwa

denoise after scaling or before?
by Jon bae 27 Oct '19

27 Oct '19

Hello, I just have an general question: As I know denoiser are specialized to specific noise pattern. Makes it a different when I denoise after scaling a video, or is the quality better when I denoise before scaling. In terms of speed it would be better for me, denoising after scaling, but when the quality is better, then I would go that way. Have a nice day! Jonathan

error in make test
by S Andreason 04 Oct '19

04 Oct '19

Hi, I have current ffmpeg by git, updated yesterday, running on Debian desktop. I was successful in configure, make, and make install, but when trying to get ass to work (not the issue for this email) I ran make test and it stopped with this error, and it looks reportable to me, and I can't get to the test I'm concerned about without getting past this point. Complete output is rather long, so I'll guess which task to do so from. metadata from concat list not working
by Goran Obal 30 Sep '19

30 Sep '19

Hi. I am trying to create a video from my music files, creating audio visualization with showfreqs and displaying current filename with drawtext. Here is my command: ffmpeg -f concat -safe 0 -i files.txt -filter_complex "[0:a]showfreqs=cmode=separate:colors=cyan|orange,drawtext=text='%{metadata\:title\:blah}':font=verdana:fontsize=56:fontcolor=white:x=(main_w/2-text_w/2):y=20[outv]" -map [outv] -map 0:a -c:v h264_nvenc -c:a copy -pix_fmt yuv420p -shortest video.mkv And this is my files.txt: file 'Alarm01.wav' file_packet_metadata title=Alarm01 file 'Alarm02.wav' file_packet_metadata title=Alarm02 Somehow this is not working for me and I don't understand why. My video displays text "blah", which tells me that ffmpeg can't find the metadata... I was also reading this: https://rensa.co/projects/ccrc-weather-station/ and they have done pretty much the same, only with pictures. And it worked for them. I tried to reproduce what they have done - with pictures - but I again don't get the metadata drawn... Any help would be appreciated. Kind regards. Goran

Play FFV1
by Noeck 30 Sep '19

30 Sep '19

Hi, I tried to play videos encoded in FFV1 (FFV1 and FLAC in an mkv container). All players (ffplay, vlc, totem) show only some still images about every 10 - 20 s but no smooth video. The videos are encoded using ffmpeg. Is my Intel Core i5-4570 CPU with 4 × 3.20GHz and a Haswell graphic really too weak for this codec? Or is there something I can do to play it smoothly? Cheers, Daniel

current ffmpeg creates shortened audio stream when filter amix

48000 Hz, stereo, fltp, 128 kb/s (default) The audio is 1.70 seconds shorter, always. Different video input lengths and different audio lengths result in the same 1.70 seconds lost. If I don't have any voice input and audio filter then the output streams match length, since they are from the same input video. I've also tried first resampling the voice-over audio to 48000 and stereo first, then removing the aresample filter, leaving only the amix. Still bad audio. Since the next step would be to mix the audio in audacity and remux it back together, I'll stop testing now and see what you think. Stewart

Rendering and appending an MP4 to an existing file?
by Gilles 30 Sep '19

Hello, With no re-encoding involved, I'd like to create an MP4 file from a JPG, and append it to an existing file that looks like this: =========== C:\>ffprobe -i 00000.MTS ffprobe version 4.2.1 Copyright (c) 2007-2019 the FFmpeg developers Input #0, mpegts, from '00000.MTS': Duration: 00:29:46.70, start: 1.040000, bitrate: 9511 kb/s Program 1 Stream #0:0[0x1011]: Video: h264 (High) (HDMV / 0x564D4448), yuv420p(top first), 1440x1080 [SAR 4:3 DAR 16:9], 25 fps, 50 tbr, 90k tbn, 50 tbc Stream #0:1[0x1100]: Audio: ac3 (AC-3 / 0x332D4341), 48000 Hz, 5.1(side), fltp, 448 kb/s Stream #0:2[0x1200]: Subtitle: hdmv_pgs_subtitle ([144][0][0][0] / 0x0090), 1920x1080 =========== What settings should I use to generate an MP4 file from a JPG so it can be appended successfully? Until now, this is what I used: =========== ffmpeg.exe -loop 1 -i "mypic.png" -i "myaudio.m4a" -preset faster -c:v libx264 -pix_fmt yuv420p -c:a copy -threads 2 -f mp4 -shortest "myfile.mp4" =========== Thank you. -- Sent from: http://www.ffmpeg-archive.org/

Can anyone from skilled ffmpeg specialists explain the nature of this problem and advice what can I do to get a good copy of this file in mp4 format, so that all frames are not blurred. The same problem I have with streams from h264 to mpegts. And it is very important to copy (-c:v copy) h264 data, not to convert.
