ffmpeg in jailshell encoding with libx264
by Fred 28 Sep '19

28 Sep '19

Hi Guys, I am running ffmpeg (statically linked) in a jailshell of a hosted server to encode webcam pictures into a movie using libx264 codec. Until recently all was working fine now after a CPanel upgrade (which also seems to have impacted the jailshell) it's suddenly not working. I still can encode e.g. to MPEG4 or Theora. But when using libx264 I always get this error. ################# [libx264 @ 0x70a0400] using SAR=1/1 [libx264 @ 0x70a0400] using cpu capabilities: MMX2 SSE2Fast SSSE3 SSE4.2 AVX FMA3 BMI2 AVX2 AVX512 Error initializing output stream 0:0 -- Error while opening encoder for output stream #0:0 - maybe incorrect parameters such as bit_rate, rate, width or height ################# Command Line used: ################# ./ffmpeg -f image2 -framerate 12 -pattern_type glob -i "./2019-09-27/*.jpg" -filter:v scale=960:-1 -c:v libx264+ -crf 30 -preset slow day_2019-09-27.mkv ################# FFMPEG version used: ################# ffmpeg version 4.2.1-static https://johnvansickle.com/ffmpeg/ Copyright (c) 2000-2019 the FFmpeg developers built with gcc 6.3.0 (Debian 6.3.0-18+deb9u1) 20170516 configuration: --enable-gpl --enable-version3 --enable-static --disable-debug --disable-ffplay --disable-indev=sndio --disable-outdev=sndio --cc=gcc-6 --enable-fontconfig --enable-frei0r --enable-gnutls --enable-gmp --enable-libgme --enable-gray --enable-libaom --enable-libfribidi --enable-libass --enable-libvmaf --enable-libfreetype --enable-libmp3lame --enable-libopencore-amrnb --enable-libopencore-amrwb --enable-libopenjpeg --enable-librubberband --enable-libsoxr --enable-libspeex --enable-libsrt --enable-libvorbis --enable-libopus --enable-libtheora --enable-libvidstab --enable-libvo-amrwbenc --enable-libvpx --enable-libwebp --enable-libx264 --enable-libx265 --enable-libxml2 --enable-libdav1d --enable-libxvid --enable-libzvbi --enable-libzimg libavutil 56. 31.100 / 56. 31.100 libavcodec 58. 54.100 / 58. 54.100 libavformat 58. 29.100 / 58. 29.100 libavdevice 58. 8.100 / 58. 8.100 libavfilter 7. 57.100 / 7. 57.100 libswscale 5. 5.100 / 5. 5.100 libswresample 3. 5.100 / 3. 5.100 libpostproc 55. 5.100 / 55. 5.100 ################# Anyone some idea what limitation in the jailshell might impact the encoding capability of certain encoders? Listing the hardware accelerators
by Verachten Bruno 27 Sep '19

27 Sep '19

Hi List, I have different environments (X86, ARM, Jetson Nano) on which I'd like to use hardware encoders and decoders if available. I guess that I won't be able to use them if they have not been built in the ffmpeg dependencies if I install a "generic" version. Will the configure command autodetect what it should build, or do I have to know my hardware before launching configure with specific options? I have read https://trac.ffmpeg.org/wiki/HWAccelIntro but it's not clear to me yet. Is there any way to have ffmpeg list what it has "found" on my system? Do I have to launch a series of commands with the different accelerators that exist, and see the output? I suppose we have to specify on the command line the hardware acceleration chosen for the ffmpeg command, it won't autodetect and choose one that is available, am I right? Thanks a bunch, Bruno -- Bruno Verachten

loudnorm and experimental audio codecs
by Jonathan Baecker 27 Sep '19

27 Sep '19

Hello, I tried to use the loudnorm filter with experimental audio codec - I need mostly s302m - but I had some issues. I make a report here to: https://trac.ffmpeg.org/ticket/8131 But because it is an experimental codec, I think the priority is very low to fix here something. The problem is, that I get the error: [s302m @ 00000275a32cba00] number of samples in frame too big Audio encoding failed This is happen because s302m needs a max packet size from 16bit. When I use the filter *asetnsamples=n=1024, *this problem goes away, but the I get the message: [out_0_0 @ 000002660d73d200] 100 buffers queued in out_0_0, something may be wrong. When I use this output file again in ffmpeg, I get: [s302m @ 000001e5830f9980] frame has invalid header Error while decoding stream #0:0: Invalid data found when processing input Complete output from first issue is: ffmpeg -f lavfi -i testsrc=size=1280x720:rate=25:duration=5 -f lavfi -i sine=frequency=1000:duration=5 -af "loudnorm=I=-23.0:TP=-1.5:LRA=11.0:dual_mono=true" -ac 2 -c:a s302m -strict -2 -f null - ffmpeg version N-94713-g9c369b3222 Copyright (c) 2000-2019 the FFmpeg developers built with gcc 9.2.0 (Rev1, Built by MSYS2 project) configuration: --enable-sdl2 --enable-gmp --enable-libmp3lame --enable-libvpx --enable-libx264 --enable-libx265 --enable-fontconfig --enable-libfreetype --enable-libmysof a --enable-libopenjpeg --enable-libsoxr --enable-libtwolame --enable-libwavpack --enable-libwebp --enable-libxml2 --enable-libzimg --enable-gpl --enable-avisynth --enable-ch romaprint --enable-libfdk-aac --enable-libfribidi --enable-librubberband --enable-libzmq --enable-opengl --enable-libsrt --enable-libaom --enable-schannel --extra-cflags=-DL IBTWOLAME_STATIC --extra-cflags=-DCHROMAPRINT_NODLL --extra-libs=-lstdc++ --extra-cflags=-DZMQ_STATIC --extra-cflags=-DLIBXML_STATIC --enable-version3 --enable-nonfree --dis able-stripping libavutil 56. 33.100 / 56. 33.100 libavcodec 58. 56.100 / 58. 56.100 libavformat 58. 31.104 / 58. 31.104 libavdevice 58. 9.100 / 58. 9.100 libavfilter 7. 58.101 / 7. 58.101 libswscale 5. 6.100 / 5. 6.100 libswresample 3. 6.100 / 3. 6.100 libpostproc 55. 6.100 / 55. 6.100 Input #0, lavfi, from 'testsrc=size=1280x720:rate=25:duration=5': Duration: N/A, start: 0.000000, bitrate: N/A Stream #0:0: Video: rawvideo (RGB[24] / 0x18424752), rgb24, 1280x720 [SAR 1:1 DAR 16:9], 25 tbr, 25 tbn, 25 tbc Input #1, lavfi, from 'sine=frequency=1000:duration=5': Duration: N/A, start: 0.000000, bitrate: 705 kb/s Stream #1:0: Audio: pcm_s16le, 44100 Hz, mono, s16, 705 kb/s Stream mapping: Stream #0:0 -> #0:0 (rawvideo (native) -> wrapped_avframe (native)) Stream #1:0 -> #0:1 (pcm_s16le (native) -> s302m (native)) Press [q] to stop, [?] for help Output #0, null, to 'pipe:': Metadata: encoder : Lavf58.31.104 Stream #0:0: Video: wrapped_avframe, rgb24(progressive), 1280x720 [SAR 1:1 DAR 16:9], q=2-31, 200 kb/s, 25 fps, 25 tbn, 25 tbc Metadata: encoder : Lavc58.56.100 wrapped_avframe Stream #0:1: Audio: s302m, 48000 Hz, stereo, s32 (24 bit), 2688 kb/s Metadata: encoder : Lavc58.56.100 s302m [Parsed_sine_0 @ 00000275a32aef00] EOF timestamp not reliable [s302m @ 00000275a32cba00] number of samples in frame too big Audio encoding failed Conversion failed! On the tracker page I have also an example audio file. My question is now: is there any way to work around this issues with other filters or settings, so I can use loudnorm with s302m codec? And when the filter *asetnsamples *is involved: is there a fixed rule of how many samples needed to be used? Jonathan

trouble shooting defective FFmpeg install on Windows 10?
by Spencer Graves 26 Sep '19

26 Sep '19

Hello: What would you suggest I do to troubleshoot a defective install of FFmpeg for Audacity on Windows 10? A colleague installed FFmpeg for Audacity 2.2.2 on a Windows 10 computer. Edit > Preferences > Libraries > "FFmpeg Library:" = "C:\Program Files (x86)\FFmpeg for Audacity\avformat-55.dll". When we did File > Open (or Import) > [a *.MOV file], we got a message saying FFmpeg for Audacity was required. But we have it. I'm not sure, but I believe we installed it following the instructions on "https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/installing_and_updating_audacity_on_win…". Thanks, Spencer Graves p.s. A week ago I installed FFmpeg for Audacity successfully for computers running Windows 7 and 10 and for macOS 10.14.6. Now I try what I think was the same procedure on a friend's Windows 10, and it fails.

wrong colors in animated GIF

Hi, I'm using this animated GIF as input http://gosper.org/sidereal.gif and process it with the most simple FFmpeg command line: ffmpeg -i sidereal.gif -y out.gif Why are the colors wrong in the output? Frame-accurate seekingin FFplay?
by Stuart Bruce 26 Sep '19

26 Sep '19

Hello I've been tasked with making a Python-based, cross-platform application that centres around (but which is not limited to) a central video player window. As a regular user of FFmpeg, I want to use FFplay, via the ffpyplayer library. However the problem I'm having is that while FFmpeg has had frame-accurate seeking for some time, and I can accurately pull images or conversions of a MOV file from FFmpeg, it seems that FFplay's seek is not frame accurate, even on the same MOV file. Frame accuracy is absolutely essential to my application, as users need to be able to jump or step to specific frames with confidence. Presently, using ffpyplayer's seek function, or the Kivy video library which is essentially a front end for ffpyplayer it seems, tends to land me on the keyframe prior to the frame that I want- sometimes up to 4 seconds out. This question is likely to be out of my league, but how difficult would it be to make FFplay frame accurate on the same principles as FFmpeg? I don't imagine it's as simple as just lifting code from one into the other? Is there a reason why this discrepancy between FFmpeg's ability and FFplay's ability still exists? This application is a rebuild of software that was using the QuickTime API and then Microsoft's MediaElement, both of which are frame-accurate when setting a position on the same MOV file. If FFplay cannot work frame accurately, can anyone recommend an alternative Pythonable video player library with frame-accurate control playback and MOV support? (I've already tried VLC, but it is nowhere near frame accurate either.) Thanks Stuart -- Stuart Bruce - stuart(a)stuartbruce.co.uk - www.stuartbruce.co.uk

dpx to prores mov

Friends, I have a dpx sequence. the dpx were made on a LaserGraphics ScanStation they all have a name like : H_N-Reel1_0000000.dpx My Goal is to make a proRes HQ mov I was hoping that it would be as easy as ffmpeg -f image2 -framerate 24 -i H_N-Reel1_%07d.dpx -c:v prores_ks -profile:v 3 -f mov hard_3.mov ( console out below 3 diff sessions ) I Think it does not know what the pixel format of the input , the dpx pixel format is I have tried ffmpeg -f image2 -framerate 24 -i H_N-Reel1_%07d.dpx -c:v prores_ks -pix_fmt yuv422p10le -profile:v 3 -f mov hard_3.mov ffmpeg -f image2 -framerate 24 -i H_N-Reel1_%07d.dpx -c:v prores_ks -pix_fmt yuv444p10 -profile:v 3 -probesize 2147483000 -f mov hard_3.mov ffmpeg -f image2 -framerate 24 -i H_N-Reel1_%07d.dpx -c:v prores_ks -pix_fmt yuv422p10le -profile:v 3 -analyzeduration 600000000 -probesize 21474830000 -f mov hard_3.mov ffmpeg -f image2 -framerate 24 -pix_fmt gbrp10le -i H_N-Reel1_%07d.dpx -c:v prores_ks -profile:v 3 -pix_fmt yuv422p10le -f mov hard_3.mov this seems significant [dpx @ 0000000000756fe0] Unsupported format Last message repeated 1 times [image2 @ 0000000000632980] decoding for stream 0 failed [image2 @ 0000000000632980] Could not find codec parameters for stream 0 (Video: dpx, none, 2048x1536): unspecified pixel format and what is this telling me? [offtopic] expansion of video content
by JD 25 Sep '19

I am at a loos what newsgroup to ask this of, as google provided no relevant answers about this problem. I always back up my dvd's to HD in case they get damaged, as I do loan them to friends sometimes. At anyrate, I use dd to copy the dvd to HD. On HD, the size of the iso file (after copying SOME dvd's) is in excess of 20GB. such as 22GB+, 26GB+...etc Could someone explain why this is? I thought dvd's have capacities of 4.7GB, 8.9GB for double density. I also know about dvd's that have slightly more than 10GB capacity. So, how is it that the iso image can get that large? Thanx in advance.

FFmpeg's HLS variant stream mappings for audio streams
by Dennis Mungai 25 Sep '19

Hello there, When dealing with FFmpeg's HLS muxer's handling of audio streams when the -var_stream_map option is applied, why is it that an audio stream cannot be mapped twice to video streams variant? Attempting to do so aborts with the error: [hls @ 0x55a6e3f9f7c0] Same elementary stream found more than once in two different variant definitions #0 and #1 [hls @ 0x55a6e3f9f7c0] Variant stream info update failed with status ffffffea [tee @ 0x55a6e2ad3e40] Slave '[bsfs/a=aac_adtstoasc:bsfs/v=dump_extra:f=hls:hls_wrap=30:hls_time=6:hls_list_size=6:hls_segment_type=fmp4:ignore_io_errors=1:hls_flags=+independent_segments:var_stream_map='v:0,a:0 v:1,a:0 v:2,a:0 v:3,a:0 v:4,a:0 v:5,a:0 v:6,a:0 v:7,a:0 v:8,a:0']/home/brainiarc7/Desktop/src/AWEHD/HLS/Gear-%v/manifest.m3u8': error writing header: Invalid argument [tee @ 0x55a6e2ad3e40] All tee outputs failed. Is this limitation by design, and if so, can it be lifted? There are cases where re-using outputs, such as common audio streams can save significant CPU cycles by eliminating unneccessary re-encoding, as demonstrated through the tee muxer. The workflow in this case can be replicated with the tee muxer with no issue, but with HLS, re-mapping the same audio output to multiple variant streams results in error, as shown above.
