For help on using BT.2020nc to convert RGB to YUV
by 梁志坚 09 Nov '20

09 Nov '20

Hello, I want to consult aquestion . When I nedd to convert 10-bit RGB format video frames into video，I use "ffmpeg -r 24000/1001 -i img/%d.tiff -vcodec libx265 -pix_fmt yuv420p10le -crf 0 -b:v 50000k output.mp4",but it uses the BT.601 formula by default to convert RGB to YUV. My video is in HDR10 format,I need to use the BT2020nc formula to convert RGB to YUV. How should I specify the parameters when using the command line to achieve this goal?Hope to get your reply, thank you very much！

Nut + ZMQ + rawvideo
by Online video 09 Nov '20

09 Nov '20

Hi, I want to distribute uncompressed video to multiple separate processes using Nut format and ZMQ protocol. The first distributing process works for me without problems: *c:\ff\ffmpeg.exe -i "source_link" -c:v rawvideo -c:a pcm_s16le -f nut "zmq:tcp://127.0.0.1:11111 <http://127.0.0.1:11111/>"* [image: image.png] But I cannot accept this stream, the receiving process does not start: *\ffmpeg.exe -f nut -i "zmq:tcp://127.0.0.1:11111 <http://127.0.0.1:11111/>" -c:v libx264 -preset:v fast -b:v 8000k -maxrate 8000k -bufsize 8000k -bf 2 -g 50 -keyint_min 50 -c:a aac -b:a 128k -f mpegts "udp://127.0.0.1:22222?pkt_size=1316 <http://127.0.0.1:22222/?pkt_size=1316>"* [image: image.png] After press CTRL-C: [image: image.png] What can you advise to solve this problem? Perhaps, instead of NUT, there is another container format that allows you to transfer uncompressed streaming video to multiple recipients? If I pass such a stream through a pipe using the same commands, then everything is ok, it works: *\ffmpeg.exe -i "source_link" -c:v rawvideo -c:a pcm_s16le -f nut - | \ffmpeg.exe -f nut -i - -c:v libx264 -preset:v fast -b:v 8000k -maxrate 8000k -bufsize 8000k -bf 2 -g 50 -keyint_min 50 * *-c:a aac -b:a 128k -f mpegts "udp://127.0.0.1:22222?pkt_size=1316 <http://127.0.0.1:22222/?pkt_size=1316>"* [image: image.png] Best regards, Sergei

Hello, I am still engrossed in the previous topic of the screenshot, if I got it to work thanks to your help but I do not get the optimal quality results, this leads me to the conclusion that there is some option not available in the compilation, so I I decided to compile it from source, but as I said repeatedly, the verad documentation is conspicuous by its absence. Please, I do not need to recommend other projects, I do not need to recommend other platforms or tools, I just need to know if they know the correct way to compile it with the environment and configuration that I am using.my entry is: $ ./configure --cross-prefix=x86_64-w64-mingw32- --arch=x86_64 --prefix=/usr/local --pkg-config=pkg-config --pkg-config-flags=--static --extra-cflags=-static --extra-ldflags=-static --enable-static --disable-shared --enable-gpl --enable-avisynth --enable-libaom --enable-libfdk-aac --enable-libfribidi --enable-libmp3lame --enable-libopus --enable-libsoxr --enable-libvorbis --enable-libvpx --enable-libx264 --enable-libx265 and the response of the configure script is as follows libfdk_aac is incompatible with the gpl and --enable-nonfree is not specified. how can I use both combinations? thanks

H264_QSV reference
by Stephan Monecke 05 Nov '20

05 Nov '20

Hi, does anyone know where I can find a complete command argument reference for the h264_qsv encoder? E.g. `-global_quality` as one of the main parameters is not present in `fmpeg -h encoder=h264_qsv`. Thanks a lot! Cheers, Stephan

Decrease CPU usage?
by Diego Patricio Durante 04 Nov '20

Hello community! I have RTSP streams from cameras, and I'm interested to save it to a disk and share as MP4. The main problems are the trade off between disk usage and CPU usage without converting the format nor scaling the image sizes. I'm using Ubuntu 18.04 and saving chunk videos directly from RTSP (h264), resizing the stream without using much more CPU. I'm using ffmpeg and its dependencies installed directly from repositories. Actual test: * I'm using it on Azure, with an Intel Xeon server (for testing purposes I have instanced two cores: https://pastebin.com/VauHZtLx) but the idea is to select a good trade off between performance and cost to get about 70 streams. I have seen that libx264 outputs a generic flags usage trough ffmpeg: * * using cpu capabilities: MMX2 SSE2Fast SSSE3 SSE4.2 AVX FMA3 BMI2 AVX2 But I have the same outputs and CPU times on my I7 4th generation CPU. Using the time command, to get * The input is (full ffprobe on https://pastebin.com/0dT9ttLG) Stream #0:0: Video: mpeg4 (Simple Profile), yuv420p, 640x480 [SAR 1:1 DAR 4:3], 30 tbr, 30k tbn, 1k tbc Stream #0:1: Audio: amr_nb, 8000 Hz, mono, flt * With this CPU I have tested to convert 7~10 streams from 30 to 5 fps and it goes around 100 % without transcoding the input (only downsizing the bitrate and the FPS). I'm testing with the command: time ffmpeg -re -rtsp_transport tcp -i 'rtsp://something:something@fdsfsdfdf' -t 10 -c:v libx264 -b:v 100k -maxrate 100k -bufsize 50k -r 5 output2.mp4 Time output (full output on https://pastebin.com/VTabvgQS) real 0m19.527s user 0m2.510s sys 0m0.102s Problems to solve: * Can I improve the performance of ffmpeg by compiling it? * They are some guidelines to improve performance? Thanks for all!

Trying to solve drop in quality
by John Harlow 03 Nov '20

I've been trying to hit the specs we need to match for an HLS live stream and I’ve created an ffmpeg 2 pass command to convert some existing mp4 files into HLS so they can be used. The mp4 test file I am using is http://fkwi.com/livestreams/test/currentweather.mp4 and it is 60 seconds long and 16,991,549 in size. The converted HLS file is http://fkwi.com/livestreams/test/test1/video.m3u8 and it is (naturally) 60 seconds long and the .ts files add up to 17,584,392 bytes. The quality of the HLS encode is horrible compared to the original and I can’t figure out where I am going sideways with it. I’m even trying a 2 pass encode. I convert our mp4’s to HLS all the time with no issues (but not to these specs.) We normally use 30FPS, VBR and VFR. You can see the items in the spec I am trying to hit in the mediainfo output at the end of this message. Below is my ffmpeg command, my entire ffmpeg session output plus a mediainfo report on the HLS encode. In the mediainfo output I’ve added (<——REQUIRED BY SPEC) next to the items that are being required of our video. I would appreciate any advice on how to maintain better quality on the HLS stream. ==========================ffmpeg command ========================== /usr/bin/ffmpeg -i "$SOURCE" \ -profile:v main Re: [FFmpeg-user] ffplay with Havision Makito X video encoder, H.264 stream, and "intra refresh" option enabled
by Kevin Hise 03 Nov '20

03 Nov '20

Can I re-ask this question? The Haivision (sorry...it's misspelled in the subject) Makito-X encoder has a "intra refresh" setting that isn't supported by FFPLAY. The Haivision hardware encoder takes SDI input and encodes it into h.264 which is sent as transport stream over UDP. When you attempt to display video with FFMPEG or FFPLAY, it eventually starts playing video...I assume it waits for several minutes before a full key frame is randomly sent and decoding can begin, but I'm not sure. I'm wondering if there are any h.264 settings or other debug / diagnostic info I can look into that might help me understand why. The Haivision engineers may or may not be aware...since it decodes correctly on their hardware it may not be their issue. It was suggested here that I "attach a file" but I'm not sure how that can be done with FFMPEG since it's unable to decode the video it doesn't seem to write anything to a file when you try to record the stream. Would this question be a better one for the development mailing list, instead? Thanks for any assistance. --kev On Tue, Oct 13, 2020 at 12:53 PM Kevin Hise <hisekc(a)gmail.com> wrote: > > "of the file generated" ....not sure what that means, still. A comment about this community (was: RE: sudo: ffmpeg: command not found)
by Marc Erickson 03 Nov '20

https://youtu.be/Q_7tuL0kbCE?t=77 People are stupid. Each person is stupid in their own way. I'm somewhat stupid about Linux and I'm very stupid about how to make money in the stock market. Other people might be smart about the stock market and Linux - and be stupid about music and Windows, two subjects that I know a lot about. If people get cursed for their stupidity, that usually doesn't encourage them to educate themselves about the matter they're stupid about. Toxic replies can make people abandon the Linux community completely. That's what I did the last time I was subjected to similar behaviour. The world needs more kindness and love, not toxicity. It gets enough toxicity from us when we're short of sleep, in a bad mood, under stress, etc. Please be kinder to each other. JSON structure for -h all and any other instructional output
by baloneymaster 03 Nov '20

03 Nov '20

I am creating my own CLI wrapper for ffmpeg. I am designing it so that you can build a command line by selecting various options from dropdown lists. In order to do this, you need some kind of document that can be parsed, but I am finding that there is very little structure in the output generated by -h all as well as other outputs for anything command-line-related. For example, here are the specs for the channel_coupling switch: -channel_coupling boolean Enables/Disables use of channel coupling -1 auto Selected by Encoder (default) 0 off Disable Channel Coupling 1 on Enable Channel Coupling I would like to that in a deserializable format like JSON here: [ { "ArgName": "channel_coupling", "Description": "Enables/Disables use of channel coupling [etc etc]", "DataType": "boolean", "Values": [ "-1", "1", "0" ] } ] Otherwise, the only way to get this structured is to parse the document which is virtually impossible given how there is no structural uniformity. Any way to get all output text in JSON like you can with ffmpegprobe? Sent with [ProtonMail](https://protonmail.com) Secure Email.

h264_qsv crashes in unknown circumstances with filter vpp_qsv
by Stephan Monecke 02 Nov '20

02 Nov '20

Good morning, yesterday evening, the following command crashed (allways but once!) with [Parsed_vpp_qsv_2 @ 0x563c3523f780] Can't allocate a surface as long as the vpp_qsv filter was present: ffmpeg -init_hw_device qsv=hw -filter_hw_device hw -i 'rtsp://url' -vf 'hwupload=extra_hw_frames=64,format=qsv,vpp_qsv=detail=50' -c:v h264_qsv -global_quality 30 -look_ahead 0 -bf 16 -profile:v high -level:v 5.1 -trellis 2 -threads 1 -an -f flv 'rtmp://url' Today it suddenly works as it does on other computers (with other rtsp streams). Does anyone have any insights into this? Thanks a lot! Stephan

dshow video source in FFplay
by Michael Koch 01 Nov '20

01 Nov '20

Hello, I'm using a cheap HDMI to USB converter for video input. The converter supports different sizes and framerates and two different video codecs. This command line works as expected: ffplay -f dshow -video_size 1920x1080 -framerate 30 -vcodec mjpeg video="USB Video" However for my application I need two input streams, and because FFplay doesn't allow filter_complex, I have to use the workaround with a "movie" source inside "-lavfi". The second input will be added later. This command line does also work as expected: ffplay -f lavfi movie=filename="USB Video":f=dshow:s=dv When I use the "movie" source, how can I specify size, framerate and codec? The movie source doesn't have these options. Michael

sudo: ffmpeg: command not found
by Marc Erickson 01 Nov '20

01 Nov '20

I compiled ffmpeg using the instructions here: https://trac.ffmpeg.org/wiki/CompilationGuide/Ubuntu I didn't include libfdk-aac libmp3lame libsvtav1 When I tried to convert an .ape file to a .flac file, I got the error: sudo: ffmpeg: command not found The command I used I have used successfully before on Ubuntu Server 18.04 with an xubuntu GUI and ffmpeg installed from the repository. Unfortunately, I couldn't install ffmpeg from the repository on my Ubuntu Server 20.04 with an xubuntu GUI because there were unmet dependencies. That's why I compiled ffmpeg. The config.log file is attached. Thanks in advance. -- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. https://www.avast.com/antivirus

matroska cluster_time_limit option not working
by Swami Kevala 01 Nov '20

01 Nov '20

I am converting uncompressed (v210) mxf files to matroska. I would like to have each frame as a separate cluster. The footage has a frame rate of 25, so I am setting the option: *-cluster_time_limit 40 * However, the first cluster of the output file contains more than 40ms: - Cluster (master) [position #2456, identifier 0x1F43B675 (4), size 388,935 (3)] - CRC-32 (binary) [position #2463, identifier 0xBF (1), size 4 (1)] - Timecode (uinteger) [position #2469, identifier 0xE7 (1), size 1 (1)] = 0 (0x0) - SimpleBlock (binary) [position #2472, identifier 0xA3 (1), size 172,096 (3)] - SimpleBlock (binary) [position #174572, identifier 0xA3 (1), size 5,764 (2)] - SimpleBlock (binary) [position #180339, identifier 0xA3 (1), size 5,764 (2)] - SimpleBlock (binary) [position #186106, identifier 0xA3 (1), size 5,764 (2)] - SimpleBlock (binary) [position #191873, identifier 0xA3 (1), size 5,764 (2)] <--- From this point onwards the local offset is 0x28 (i.e. it is the next frame) - SimpleBlock (binary) [position #197640, identifier 0xA3 (1), size 176,453 (3)] - SimpleBlock (binary) [position #374097, identifier 0xA3 (1), size 5,764 (2)] - SimpleBlock (binary) [position #379864, identifier 0xA3 (1), size 5,764 (2)] - SimpleBlock (binary) [position #385631, identifier 0xA3 (1), size 5,764 (2)] The remaining clusters have 40 ms each. However they all have 1 audio block (with 0 ms local offset, and 1 video and 3 audio blocks with a 40 ms local offset) I want the 1 video and 4 audio tracks to all be in a single cluster all having 0ms local offset. -- *- 9442504660* -- <https://isha.sadhguru.org/sadhguru-exclusive?utm_campaign=sg-ex&utm_medium=…> -- The information contained in this electronic message and any attachments to this message are intended for the exclusive use of the addressee(s) and may contain proprietary, confidential or privileged information.
