Can anyone kindly give me a usage example of this: ffmeg -i SOURCE -vf decimate=ppsrc TARGET I'm totally dumbfounded by this: "ppsrc Mark main input as a pre-processed input and activate clean source input stream. This allows the input to be pre-processed with various filters to help the metrics calculation while keeping the frame selection lossless. When set to 1, the first stream is for the pre-processed input, and the second stream is the clean source from where the kept frames are chosen. Default is 0." Specifically: "the first stream is for the pre-processed input": What is a pre-processed input? How processed? "the second stream": What 2nd stream? Are there 2 inputs? If so, does that mean I need to use a filter complex? Or are there 2 passes? If so, how do I form the command line? "clean source": What is a clean source? How is it made clean (whatever that means)? Thanks for your help.

Titles not showing on dlna with matroska

Hi I am looking at moving from mp4 to matroska for "encoding" However I have come across a wierd issue wih the title not showing on dlna. When viewed in vlc or parolethe title is displayed as I would expect, however on any dlna client , no title, only the filename is shown. Any tips on how to transcode with a title tag which will show up? example cmdline ffmpeg -v 35 -v 35 -i /Inpitfile.mkv -c:v copy -c:a copy -threads 4 -strict -2 -y -map_metadata -1 -metadata title='Test input' -metadata artist='test' -hide_banner /srv/data/Downloads/outfile.mkv The file plays fine, and the exact same command with mp4 output displays the title as expected. Any ideas?

Trying to write to disk the output of a USB capture card and can't combine video and audio

I've been doing a fair bit of digging into this as this is my first project to convert some old magnetic tape media to digital. ffmpeg seems like exactly what I want be using. I'm kinda newbie to this so I'm hoping for some guidance. I'm using ffmpeg on Arch linux and trying to convert some old video to digital. The setup is pretty straightforward and if I connect to the capture device with something like VLC I get the video and audio just fine. So now I want to capture that with ffmpeg and write it to a file so I can edit it and clean it up with something like OpenShot. I'm only so-so familiar with ffmpeg and I've been digging through the man pages and here is where I am at. This command captures perfect audio, but obviously no video: ffmpeg -f alsa -ac 2 -i front:CARD=Capture,DEV=0 out.mpeg This command captures perfect video, but likewise no audio: ffmpeg -f video4linux2 -i /dev/video0 out.mpeg So combining them together should give me: ffmpeg -y -f alsa -ac 2 -i front:CARD=Capture,DEV=0 -f video4linux2 -i /dev/video0 out.mpeg But that command kinda falls on its face. I was hoping that someone could give me some advice. The source of the media is from a component output video signal, into a component-to-hdmi converter. From that converter I got into a 1080p 60pfs hdmi-hdmi pass through that connects to the computer via USB and shows up as /dev/video0 and the audio source listed above. It works great because I can connect to it through VLC and get good audio and video. Thanks everyone! As always, any help is definitely appreciated.

Hi guys, I am looking at turning 16x9 content into 1x1 I want to be able to specify the source area that should be used for the output in 1 second increments and move between them smoothly. It looks like I could perhaps use the crop filter or the zoompan filter to achieve this. Does anyone have any reasons why one would be better than the other? Thanks Adam

I built libVMAF (libvmaf_v2.0.0) using the following procedure: (a) Modified Makefile to add /--default-library static/ and a prefix as meson setup args. (b) sudo make clean (c) sudo make (d) sudo mae install => This created the binary, libraries, pkg, and include files in the /$prefixdir/bin, $prefixdir/lib, $prefixdir/lib/pkgconfig/ and /$prefixdir/include/libvmaf/ folders Then I configured ffmpeg using /--enable-libvmaf/ as options e.g. /./configure --pkg-config="pkg-config --static" --prefix="$PATHFFMPEG" --bindir="$PATHFFMPEG/bin" --libdir="$PATHFFMPEG/lib" --shlibdir="$PATHFFMPEG/lib" --incdir="$PATHFFMPEG/include" --pkgconfigdir="$PATHFFMPEG/lib/pkgconfig" --enable-gpl --enable-nonfree --enable-libx264 --enable-libfdk-aac --enable-libx265 --enable-libvorbis --enable-libvpx --enable-libaom --enable-libvmaf --enable-version3 --disable-v4l2-m2m --disable-outdev=v4l2 --disable-shared --enable-static --extra-cflags="-I $PATHFFMPEG/include" --extra-ldflags="-L $PATHFFMPEG/lib"/ I then proceeded to build ffmpeg using (a) sudo make clean (b) sudo make -j16 (c) sudo make install After successfully building ffmpeg, I tried to get a list of all encoders by /$PATHFFMPEG/bin/ffmpeg -encoders/ What I get is the following: /dyld: Library not loaded: @rpath/libvmaf.1.dylib Referenced from: bin/./ffmpeg Reason: image not found Abort trap: 6/ I have repeated this procedure without vmaf i.e. exclude the --enable-libvmaf. Then everything works as it should. Clearly something is amiss with the libVMAF installation. Has anybody encountered this problem ? What does -write_xing 0 do?

I've been testing the option -write_xing 0 so that Apple Music properly displays the durations on ffmpeg-generated mp3 files. I'm aware of the option from this 7-year-old post: https://trac.ffmpeg.org/ticket/2697 <https://trac.ffmpeg.org/ticket/2697> which describes it as a solution to QuickTime displaying TRTs incorrectly. The problem mp3 files I've been testing actually show proper TRTs in QuickTime, but not in Apple Music and ExifTool. The -write_xing 0 option seems to be fixing it. I'm curious what it's actually doing. What was the issue to begin with / what problem is it solving? Is it doing other things to the converted file that might be worth knowing about? Any down sides to using it?

Generate single MPEGTS HLS segment based on fragmented input data

Hi, the problem I want to describe is similar to "Generate individual HLS-compatible .ts segments on-demand by downloading as little bytes as possible from a remote input file" described here http://ffmpeg.org/pipermail/ffmpeg-user/2016-December/034513.html - unfortunately no answers there. Initial assumptions are: - need to provide streaming solution based on HLS-compatible MPEGTS segments - for now need to stream audio only (maybe audio+video in the future, so generic solution would be the best for me) - my data source is a group of WAV file segments, exactly 10 seconds each - if you take all WAV segments and concatenate them you will get a nice, seamless audio track (no glitches, gaps etc.) - the cost of retrieving each WAV segment from my storage is relatively high My approach: - create m3u8 index file before any segments are actually available, as I know how many segments I need to generate and I also know their duration - when a MPEGTS segment is requested, collect WAV data from storage and generate MPEGTS file using FFmpeg: For first segment: ffmpeg -i input_1.wav -acodec aac -output_ts_offset 0ms output_1.ts For second segment: ffmpeg -i input_2.wav -acodec aac -output_ts_offset 10000ms output_2.ts etc... My problem: - generated segments are not exactly 10 seconds long - gaps can be heard between some audio segments (may this be caused by above issue?) Any ideas how to generate single MPEGTS segments that will not cause glitches during playback? I need to expose the data through web API written in ASP.NET C#. Any idea on how to solve this problem, even if it may not use FFmpeg at all, would be appreciated. Thanks, Jan

FFMPEG has trouble processing file while VLC plays mp2ts just fine

Hello, I have a major problem trying to read a video file using ffmpeg, while VLC has no trouble replaying it. The video file can be processed by ffmpeg, but it loses pts, skips multiple frames, and overall acts if video is broken. This is especially evident with silencedetect ... in VLC everything is pristine. The video is generated by video recording program that records a broadcast. I tried TVTest (https://github.com/tsukumijima/TVTest) for Windows and also tried recpt1 (https://github.com/stz2012/recpt1.git) and both of them produce the same output. Copying a matroska container including the attachement

Hi there, What would(should?) be the right command to copy an mkv file (including the attachment). I tried a naive: ffmpeg -i input.mkv -map 0 -map_metadata 0 -c copy output.mkv The attachment information gets lost (the jpg seems to be still there though). Thanks, -- Mathieu
