Removing a metadata tag from a specfic stream
by Thibeau 06 Feb '21

06 Feb '21

Yea I suppose I could just remove the art entirely and that works, but could ffmpeg get the art out of the songs? I wouldn’t know how to get them and out. But if it’s possible I might be able to just reattach them afterwards and see if the tag hasn’t gone or maybe edit while the image is separated. > On 6 Feb 2021, at 00:56, MediaMouth <communque(a)gmail.com> wrote: > > On Feb 5, 2021, at 12:21 PM, MediaMouth <communque(a)gmail.com> wrote: >> The obvious approach (targeting it as the first video track) didn't work: >>> ffmpeg -y -i '29 My Girl.flac' -metadata:s:v:0 comment= '29 My GirlB.flac' >>> ffprobe '29 My GirlB.flac' > > One possibility would be to simply remove the album art (you could save it externally beforehand). > That will, in turn, get rid of the associated metadata "comment". Feeding raw image bytes into ffmpeg rawvideo (via nodejs) fails with Invalid buffer size on linux only
by Ioannis Cherouvim 06 Feb '21

06 Feb '21

Hello The full description of my problem is at https://stackoverflow.com/questions/66060074/feeding-raw-image-bytes-into-f… I have a nodejs program which I use to render raw bytes and pipe them like that into ffmpeg: > node generate | ffmpeg -f rawvideo -pixel_format rgb24 -video_size 1000x1000 -i - test.png For large images it always fails with: Invalid buffer size, packet size 65536 < expected frame_size 3000000 I found out that on linux, the pipe buffer size is 65536, so probably that's why it fails. Since I can't seem to be able to raise the pipe buffer size, is there a way to let ffmpeg know that it should wait until all bytes have been received, or I explicitly cancel it via CTLR+C or something? thanks

Removing a metadata tag from a specfic stream
by Thibeau 05 Feb '21

05 Feb '21

Hi I'm trying to remove the comment tag which has the value Other but seem to be unable to do so using ffmpeg. I think it's because it's part of the stream that contains the cover art so the comment belongs the cover art metadata not the global song metadata. Any ideas what command I could use to remove this tag? . Here's a pastebin of the outpot of ffprobe where I pointed an arrow towards the tag I want to remove. https://pastebin.com/wTiyFP9u

Error Capturing MJPEG Stream from Linux version

Switched to rpt_mpegts. It sets metadata, but messes up services. I have IP Probe DVB-T decoder that can't decode it, it sees one channel that has 24 streams and not 24 channels.

Out of virtual memory (swap, I assume)
by Mark Filipak (ffmpeg) 04 Feb '21

04 Feb '21

Windows 10-1803 Memory: 32GB Virtual memory: 128GB on an SSD-RAID0. No other applications running. ffmpeg -i "THE LAST EMPEROR [1987] source part5.mkv" -map 0 -filter_complex "minterpolate=fps=48000/1001:mi_mode=mci:mc_mode=obmc:scd=fdiff:scd_threshold=10:vsbmc=1:search_param=32, telecine=pattern=3322,pp=linblenddeint, setpts=N*1001/60000/TB" -codec:v libx265 -x265-params "crf=20:qcomp=0.60" -codec:a copy -codec:s copy "THE LAST EMPEROR [1987] part5.mkv" As the transcode proceeds, I watch the virtual memory commit climb steadily. As the transcode proceeds, I watch the memory allocation top out and then hover there. I went to bed, but I assume that when the virtual memory commit tops out, ffmpeg reports the following error: "Error while filtering: Cannot allocate memory "Failed to inject frame into filter network: Cannot allocate memory "Error while processing the decoded data for stream #0:0 "Conversion failed!" There's something about 'source part5.mkv' that causes the fault, but I'll be damned if I can find it. I tried the part 5 transcode 3 times: 1, While concurrently transcoding parts 1-4 (which all succeeded), and 2, On its own, and finally 3, I again extracted part 5 via MKVToolNIX, and transcoded again. That last time I made sure that 'source part5.mkv' played correctly (with correct running times in MPV) and with monotonically increasing timestamps before transcoding for the 3rd time. I took 4 pertinent files, renamed them, zipped them as part5.zip ...6,138,036,350 bytes. Inside part5.zip is: [part5.zip]\source part5.mkv ...6,150,347,006 bytes [part5.zip]\source part5.mkv timestamps.txt ...5,095,698 bytes [part5.zip]\part5.mkv failure #3.log ...3,372,428 bytes [part5.zip]\part5.mkv timestamps.txt ...3,114,801 bytes *** Well, dropbox seems to be malfunctioning. Can you suggest an alternative? *** Any/all ideas regarding how I can successfully transcode part 5 will be much appreciated even if it/they fail. Thanks and Good Health. Regards, Mark.

OT, Noise, am I'm loosing it? (rant)
by Bouke 04 Feb '21

04 Feb '21

Recently watched ‘Win it all’ on Netflix. (Ok, you can flame me for bad taste, but that would be beside the point.) Now, in this flick, a ‘Netflix original’, noise on close to every interior shot is beyond reasonable. Now, Netflix has very high demands on delivery. How could this happen? Why did Netflix accept this? (And this is far from the only noisy shot I see in modern movies nowadays….) This movie was shot some 5 years ago. Even back then there were cams that could shoot with candle light if needed, without excessive noise! I guess this is due to shooting LUT by someone who is totally clueless. (Note, my guess is that even without additional lighting the shots ‘could’ have turned out with way less noise.) Having said that, I have never ever seen a LUT shot that turned out better than shooting decent in the first place, but my editorial work has productions with a total budget of 300K max. I know there is a place in this world where shooting LUT can indeed help, my guess is that those events are 0.1 % of the cases where LUT is in fact used. If the noise would be an artistic decision I could understand it, but that seems not the case IMHO. Nor was it out of need. (I have some experience, I have restored old movies, where the only available stock needed to be overcranked, there is a valid reason.) What I do know that the added data for compression for Netflix will burn half a rain forrest, consuming way more energy / cost than having had the set lighted properly, or, again, pick a decent camera and do NOT shoot lut, or do it properly at least. What am I missing, or am I right and should some people get their butts kicked? Bouke
