Drawtext problem
by Cecil Westerhof 09 Dec '22

09 Dec '22

With the drawtext filter I wanted to use: text = '13:30 tot 17:30/18:00': But this gives: Both text and text file provided. Please provide only one Strangely enough this does not give an error: text = '13:30 tot 17:30/18': I solved it by using: text = '13:30 tot 17:30/18\:00': But I do not understand why the first two do not have to be escaped and the third does. I use ffmpeg in a bash script. -- Cecil Westerhof Senior Software Engineer LinkedIn: http://www.linkedin.com/in/cecilwesterhof

MPEG OPTION CONFIGURATION
by Cédric Cochennec 08 Dec '22

08 Dec '22

Hi all I am trying to understand and set things up for mpeg streams options in ffmpeg. Let's do this with mpeg1video codec in mpg container. I peaked up this command line in ffmpeg documentation wich work perfectly well : -f vcd -muxrate 1411200 -muxpreload 0.44 -packetsize 2324 -s 352x288 -r 25 -codec:v mpeg1video -g 15 -b:v 1150k -maxrate:v 1150k -minrate:v 1150k -bufsize:v 327680 -ar 44100 -ac 2 -codec:a mp2 -b:a 160k Now, I tried several changes to achieve bit_rate=2.123200 Mbit/s and overall bit_rate=2.332245 Mbit/s but with little success for readability, error buffer underflow etc... What would be the setup of these options : - -muxrate - -muxpreload - -packetsize - -b:v - -maxrate:v - -bufsize:v Many thanks for your help Cédric

Trouble selecting a pixel format/colorspace while trying to encode a video using ffmpeg and HW accelerated vaapi or qsv interfaces
by caetano＠vision.ime.usp.br 08 Dec '22

08 Dec '22

I'm having trouble selecting a pixel format/colorspace while trying to encode a video using ffmpeg and HW accelerated vaapi or qsv interfaces. I have an i7-1165G7 with integrated graphics and I'm using ffmpeg 5.1.1 with ubuntu I'm able to select the pixel format/colorspace with the SW encoder, for instance, if I use the following command: ==== ffmpeg -f x11grab -draw_mouse 0 -framerate 20 -probesize 42M -video_size 1920x1200 -thread_queue_size 1000 -vcodec rawvideo -i ":0.0" -an -c:v hevc -preset veryslow -global_quality 17 -look_ahead 1 -y /tmp/output.mkv ==== I get the correct pixel format and with ffprobe I have the following: ==== Input #0, matroska, webm, from '/tmp/output.mkv': Metadata: ENCODER : Lavf59.27.100 Duration: 00:00:02.90, start: 0.000000, bitrate: 92 kb/s Stream #0:0: Video: hevc (Rext), gbrp(pc, gbr/unknown/unknown, progressive), 1920x1200, 20 fps, 20 tbr, 1k tbn Metadata: ENCODER : Lavc59.37.100 libx265 DURATION : 00:00:02.900000000 ==== The video from the above example is correctly encoded and colors are exactly what I need them to be. On the other hand, when I try to use the HW encoder, the pixel format is wrong. For instance: ==== ffmpeg -init_hw_device qsv=hw -filter_hw_device hw -v verbose -f x11grab -draw_mouse 0 -framerate 20 -probesize 42M -video_size 1920x1200 -thread_queue_size 1000 -vcodec rawvideo -i ":0.0" -an -vf 'hwupload=extra_hw_frames=64,scale_qsv=format=bgra' -c:v hevc_qsv -preset veryslow -global_quality 17 -look_ahead 1 -y /tmp/output.mkv ==== ffprobe generates: ==== Input #0, matroska, webm, from '/tmp/output.mkv': Metadata: ENCODER : Lavf59.27.100 Duration: 00:00:04.40, start: 0.000000, bitrate: 55 kb/s Stream #0:0: Video: hevc (Main), yuvj420p(pc, gbr/unknown/unknown, progressive), 1920x1200 [SAR 1:1 DAR 8:5], 20 fps, 20 tbr, 1k tbn Metadata: ENCODER : Lavc59.37.100 hevc_qsv DURATION : 00:00:04.400000000 ==== As you can see, in the first example, libx265 SW encoder based, the output is generated with the "gbrp" colorspace while in the second example, hevc_qsv HW encoder based, the output is generated with the "yuvj420p" pixel format. QUESTION: How can I properly control the pixel format/colorspace of the generated output using the HW based encoders such as QSV or VAAPI with my i7-1165G7 integrated graphics card ? I would like a format that is 24 or 32bits instead of the 12bits I'm getting

How to improve ffprobe/ffmpeg speed?
by sbtgerbtzertertv 04 Dec '22

04 Dec '22

Hello, I asked it already here https://superuser.com/questions/1752308/ffprobe-runs-over-2-times-slower-th…, but no reply so far, maybe the devs are only active here. On 1593 FLAC files ffprobe takes 32s to run this script: find . -type f -iname "*.flac" -print0 | while read -d $'\0' FILENAME; do INFOS=$(ffprobe -hide_banner "$FILENAME" 2>&1) URL=$("$INFOS"|& grep -i 'http\|www') if [ "$URL" != "" ]; then echo -e "$FILENAME\t$URL" fi done | column -t -s $'\t' , but mediainfo only takes about half as much. How to make ffprobe to run at least as fast or faster, so I can remove mediainfo again? (this question is not about making the script run in parallel, but about single threaded performance, so it runs even faster in parallel)

ffmpeg finds errors in AC3 but VLC player plays it without problems

I have got a mpeg TS with following composition Input #0, mpegts, from 'f-15719-ccrslc_received_1669838970.ts': Duration: 00:04:57.67, start: 39582.509200, bitrate: 2528 kb/s Program 3 Stream #0:0[0x31]: Video: h264 (Main), 1 reference frame ([27][0][0][0] / 0x001B), yuv420p(tv, bt709, progressive, left), 856x480 (864x480) [SAR 320:321 DAR 16:9], 30 fps, 29.97 tbr, 90k tbn, 60 tbc Stream #0:1[0x34](eng): Audio: ac3 ([129][0][0][0] / 0x0081), 48000 Hz, 5.1(side), fltp, 384 kb/s Stream #0:2[0x35](spa): Audio: ac3 ([129][0][0][0] / 0x0081), 48000 Hz, stereo, fltp, 128 kb/s Stream #0:3[0x36](eng): Audio: ac3 ([129][0][0][0] / 0x0081), 48000 Hz, stereo, fltp, 192 kb/s (visual impaired) (descriptions) Stream #0:4[0x37]: Data: klv (KLVA / 0x41564C4B) Stream #0:1 and Stream #0:3 : Both these streams are free of any errors, and can show frames info for all the audio frames. However when I do the following to analyze the #0:2 stream, ffprobe shows the error. ffprobe -i my_test_clip.ts -select_streams a:1 -show_frames -loglevel verbose This command gives me the following output (removed unwanted part from output) ... ... [mpegts @ 0x29f0ac0] PES packet size mismatch [AVIOContext @ 0x29f98c0] Statistics: 96005956 bytes read, 2 seeks However when I play this TS in VLC player it can play all the three AC3 streams without error. Why does that happen? How can this be corrected?

Ubuntu 22.04 audio capture issue
by Christof Ameye (Oscart Group) 02 Dec '22

02 Dec '22

Hi all, We are using an Ubuntu 22.04 install with X (not Wayland) on an Intel NUC 11 Pro NUC11TNKi3. When simply launching a terminal, we can record audio easily, and with success: ffmpeg -f alsa -i default alsaout.wav However, we need to launch this as the same user as we used in X, but from a daemon. We use sudo to become that same user and launch the exact same ffmpeg command as above. This results in ffmpeg giving the following error: [alsa @ 0x5560dc7f9e40] cannot open audio device default (No such file or directory) default: Input/output error In both situations we can run alsamixer with success, and 'arecord -L' shows: null Discard all samples (playback) or generate zero samples (capture) default Playback/recording through the PulseAudio sound server samplerate Rate Converter Plugin Using Samplerate Library speexrate Rate Converter Plugin Using Speex Resampler jack JACK Audio Connection Kit oss Open Sound System pulse PulseAudio Sound Server upmix Plugin for channel upmix (4,6,8) vdownmix Plugin for channel downmix (stereo) with a simple spacialization usbstream:CARD=PCH HDA Intel PCH USB Stream Output However also in both cases, 'arecord -l' only shows **** List of CAPTURE Hardware Devices **** If we use ssh to that same machine, using that same user, it is also working fine. We have tried to find any indications what is the cause (like making that user part of the audio group), but none of it worked. In previous versions of Ubuntu (LTS), this was no problem at all. Any hints or ideas are welcome, Christof Christof Ameye CTO T +32 56 74 50 10 E christof.ameye(a)oscart.eu oscart.eu

How to get HDR metadata inside my AV1 video?
by Robin van der Linden 01 Dec '22

01 Dec '22

Hey folks, I'm trying to reencode a 10 Bit HEVC to 10 Bit AV1 while keeping the HDR metadata intact. Sadly, I don't see any HDR metadata with VLC at the reencoded AV1 clip. The only thing I see are very cold looking colors, have a look at my encode command: /usr/bin/ffmpeg -i "/tmp/VODProcessing/Test (2022) - [2160p UHD].m4v" -map 0:0 -c:v libsvtav1 -b:v 7864320 -maxrate:v 8257536 -bufsize 31457280 -vf zscale=width=3840:height=2160 -svtav1-params "input-depth=10:fast-decode=1:color-primaries=9:transfer-characteristics=16:matrix-coefficients=9:mastering-display=G(0.265,0.69)B(0.15,0.06)R(0.68,0.32)WP(0.3127,0.329)L(4000.0,0.005):content-light=368,226:enable-hdr=1" -pix_fmt yuv420p10le -color_trc smpte2084 -max_muxing_queue_size 1024 -profile:v main -preset 6 -crf 16 -strict experimental -bf 0 -tune fastdecode -force_key_frames "expr:gte(t,n_forced*2)" -keyint_min 48 -use_timeline 1 -use_template 1 -map_metadata -1 -map_chapters -1 -sc_threshold 0 -f hls -seg_duration 4 -hls_time 4 -streaming 1 -hls_list_size 0 -hls_segment_filename "/tmp/VODProcessing/output/Test (2022) - [2160p UHD]/v-av01-2160p-av01.0.12H.10/f-%04d.m4s" -hls_fmp4_init_filename "init-v-av01-2160p-av01.0.12H.10.m4s" -hls_segment_type fmp4 -hls_playlist_type vod -movflags frag_keyframe+frag_every_frame+write_colr+prefer_icc+skip_trailer+faststart -hls_flags independent_segments "/tmp/VODProcessing/output/Test (2022) - [2160p UHD]/v-av01-2160p-av01.0.12H.10/master.m3u8" Can somebody give me a hint why the SVT-AV1 encoder does not take the information? -- Grüße / Kind regards, Robin van der Linden
