ERROR: libvmaf >= 2.0.0 not found using pkg-config
by 桃源老師 05 Feb '22

05 Feb '22

Hello, I experienced funny ffmpeg compille error "ERROR: libvmaf >= 2.0.0 not found using pkg-config". The reason why I feel funny is that ffmpeg commit of "06a54a4ec73ea6eb8cec41b7af75367bafb075e0(Date: Sat Jan 22 10:32:34 2022 +0100)" can configure and make correctly, but current git head can't configure. I suppose something wrong was happened after 2022/01/22. I'm trying to build ffmpeg on macOS 12.2. The seems to error portion on config.log is: /var/folders/1d/qk_hczkn68xfv_7gdbkmhwx40000gn/T//ffconf.DmkkrFIx/test.c:3:44: error: use of undeclared identifier 'vmaf_init' long check_vmaf_init(void) { return (long) vmaf_init; } ^ 1 error generated. ERROR: libvmaf >= 2.0.0 not found using pkg-config Any help is appreciated...

Using different libavfilter than in ffmpeg-4.4.tar.bz2
by Matt C 04 Feb '22

Trying to use vf_ccrepack.c I need to use libavfilter from https://github.com/LTNGlobal-opensource/FFmpeg-ltn/tree/lted1 And not the version from ffmpeg-4.4.tar.bz2 How would I do that? On Ubuntu 21.10, using this config: cd ~/ffmpeg_sources wget https://ffmpeg.org/releases/ffmpeg-4.4.tar.bz2 tar -xvf ffmpeg-*.tar.bz2 cd ffmpeg-*/ PATH="$HOME/bin:$PATH" PKG_CONFIG_PATH="$HOME/ffmpeg_build/lib/pkgconfig" ./configure \ --prefix="$HOME/ffmpeg_build" \ --pkg-config-flags="--static" \ --extra-cflags="-I$HOME/ffmpeg_build/include -I$HOME/ffmpeg_sources/BMD_SDK/include" \ --extra-ldflags="-L$HOME/ffmpeg_build/lib" \ --extra-libs="-lpthread -lm" \ --bindir="$HOME/bin" \ --enable-debug \ --disable-shared \ --disable-doc \ --disable-ffplay \ --disable-sdl2 \ --enable-gpl \ --enable-libass \ --enable-libfdk-aac \ --enable-libfreetype \ --enable-libmp3lame \ --enable-libopus \ --enable-libsvtav1 \ --enable-libvorbis \ --enable-libvpx \ --enable-libx264 \ --enable-libx265 \ --enable-nonfree \ --enable-version3 \ --enable-runtime-cpudetect \ --enable-avfilter \ --enable-fontconfig \ --enable-libfribidi \ --enable-libsoxr \ --enable-libsrt \ --enable-libtwolame \ --enable-libvpx \ --enable-openssl \ --enable-zlib \ --enable-pic \ --enable-libklvanc\ --enable-decklink

Is err_detect working at all?
by Nicolas Tardieu 04 Feb '22

04 Feb '22

Hello, I'm used to -xerror but I need a more permissive threshold so I tried -err_detect. (I was interested in the 'careful' option) But -err_detect does not seem to have any impact, whatever flag is passed. I tried corrupted audio or video files, ffmpeg 4.4 and 5, different encoders. Here is an example where I would expect '-err_detect explode' to return a failed conversion and exit_code !=0. Am I doing something wrong or is it just not the way it is supposed to work? Thanks ffmpeg -err_detect explode -i "/Users/xxx/Desktop/2_f_audio_stream_2.mp4" -vn -c:a aac -b:a 96k -ar 48000 "/Users/xxx/Desktop/out.mp4" -loglevel debug -y ffmpeg version 5.0 Copyright (c) 2000-2022 the FFmpeg developers built with Apple clang version 12.0.0 (clang-1200.0.32.29) configuration: --prefix=/usr/local/Cellar/ffmpeg/5.0-with-options --enable-shared --cc=clang --host-cflags= --host-ldflags= --enable-gpl --enable-libaom --enable-libdav1d --enable-libmp3lame --enable-libopus --enable-libsnappy --enable-libtheora --enable-libvmaf --enable-libvorbis --enable-libvpx --enable-libx264 --enable-libx265 --enable-libfontconfig --enable-libfreetype --enable-frei0r --enable-libass --enable-demuxer=dash --enable-opencl --enable-videotoolbox --disable-htmlpages --enable-libfdk-aac --enable-nonfree libavutil 57. 17.100 / 57. 17.100 libavcodec 59. 18.100 / 59. 18.100 libavformat 59. 16.100 / 59. 16.100 libavdevice 59. 4.100 / 59. 4.100 libavfilter 8. 24.100 / 8. 24.100 libswscale 6. 4.100 / 6. 4.100 libswresample 4. 3.100 / 4. 3.100 libpostproc 56. 3.100 / 56. 3.100 Splitting the commandline. map_metadata to overwrite metadata?
by Leo Butler 04 Feb '22

04 Feb '22

Synopsis: I have a video (.webm) with existing chapter metadata. I want to overwrite that with data from a metadata file. I don't understand why map_metadata can write, but does not overwrite, chapter metadata. Try: Create a video with a couple chapters (see below): ffmpeg -y -f lavfi -i 'color=c=red:s=1280x720' -i meta.txt -map_metadata 1 -t 20 test.webm Overwrite(?) the metadata: ffmpeg -y -i test.webm -i meta-2.txt -map_metadata 1 test-2.webm That does not work, but this does: ffmpeg -y -i test.webm -i meta-2.txt -map_metadata 1 -map_chapters 1 test-3.webm Question: why does the first insert the chapter information, but the second does not overwrite the chapter information, and why is '-map_chapters' needed? Output: $ ffmpeg -y -f lavfi -i 'color=c=red:s=1280x720' -i meta.txt -map_metadata 1 -t 20 test.webm ffmpeg version 4.4.1-3 Copyright (c) 2000-2021 the FFmpeg developers built with gcc 11 (Debian x265 encoded with yuvj444p plays back as yuvj420p
by ‍小太 03 Feb '22

03 Feb '22

Hi, I have a screen recording made with OBS that's originally encoded with H.264 with the yuvj444p pixel format. Here's the sample I used: https://0x0.st/oHn-.mkv I want to re-encode this as H.265, so I used the following ffmpeg command: > ffmpeg -i input.mkv -codec:v libx265 -preset fast -crf 22 -codec:a copy output.mkv Here's the sample I obtained out of it: https://0x0.st/oHnX.mkv But when I play the x265-encoded version back in VLC or ffplay, it seems to assume the pixel format is yuvj420p, resulting in colours being in the wrong places. What am I doing wrong? Below is the full CLI output of ffmpeg and ffplay $ ffmpeg -i '2022-02-04 07-48-33.mkv' -codec:v libx265 -preset fast -crf 22 -codec:a copy /tmp/a.mkv ffmpeg version 4.4.1-3 Copyright (c) 2000-2021 An object oriented video notation
by Mark Filipak (ffmpeg) 01 Feb '22

01 Feb '22

During the past year, I've developed a set of true stream primitives that are object oriented (frames, pictures, ...), plus a notation to describe encodings and "mechanical" manipulations that are useful and that are fairly easy to read and understand. Can the notation be used as a frontend to FFmpeg? I don't know ...maybe. I have written 11 HTML documents to introduce the notation and to present some novel use-cases. 1, Preface (8 KiB) 2, Teasers (20 KiB) 3, Enhanced Terminology (25 KiB) 4, Reference (19 KiB) 5, Encoding Of DVD & Bluray Content (18 KiB) 6, About Audio (9 KiB) 7, Recovering The Camera Shots (3 KiB) 8, Basic Primitives (21 KiB) 9, Pulldown Primitives (14 KiB) 10, Advanced Interpolations (12 KiB) 11, Seen In The Wild (11 KiB) Writing the docs took a long time and lot of work. Is there any appetite here for them? Regards, Mark.

watch a folder for new images
by Michael Koch 01 Feb '22

01 Feb '22

Hello, is it possible to watch a folder for new images (like fileSystemWatcher in C#), and if a new image appears, then load it in FFmpeg? The question is for Windows. Very large PNG images (about 30 Megapixels) are written to the folder every 5 seconds. I want to load these images, extract the four corners, enlarge them by a factor 10, stack the four images together and show the result on the screen, until the next image appears. The filtering is no problem, the question is only how to watch the folder for new images. Michael
