error: non monotone timestamps ??
I'm trying to convert a dvd to an avi file to stream to a ps3. So I used dumpsteam in mplayer to create a vob file: mplayer dvd://1 -dumpstream -dumpfile dvd.vob and then tried to use ffmpeg to put the vob into an avi ccontainer: ffmpeg -i dvd.vob -vcodec copy -acodec copy dvd.avi FFmpeg version SVN-r12192, Copyright (c) 2000-2008 Fabrice Bellard, et al. configuration: --prefix=/usr --libdir=/usr/lib64 --shlibdir=/usr/lib64 --mandir=/usr/share/man --incdir=/usr/include/ffmpeg --extra-cflags=-fPIC --enable-libmp3lame --enable-libvorbis --enable-libtheora --enable-libfaad --enable-libfaac --enable-libgsm --enable-libxvid --enable-libx264 --enable-liba52 --enable-liba52bin --enable-pp --enable-swscaler --enable-shared --enable-pthreads --disable-debug --cpu=nocona --enable-gpl libavutil version: 49.6.0 libavcodec version: 51.50.1 libavformat version: 52.7.0 libavdevice version: 52.0.0 built on Feb 24 2008 20:36:38, gcc: 4.1.2 20070925 (Red Hat 4.1.2-33) Seems stream 0 codec frame rate differs from container frame rate: 29.97 (30000/1001) -> 59.94 (60000/1001) Input #0, mpeg, from 'dvd.vob': Duration: 01:17:53.7, start: 0.201311, bitrate: 12349 kb/s Stream #0.0[0x1e0]: Video: mpeg2video, yuv420p, 720x480 [PAR 32:27 DAR 16:9], 9800 kb/s, 59.94 tb(r) Stream #0.1[0x20]: Subtitle: dvdsub Stream #0.2[0x21]: Subtitle: dvdsub Stream #0.3[0x22]: Subtitle: dvdsub Stream #0.4[0x23]: Subtitle: dvdsub Stream #0.5[0x80]: Audio: liba52, 48000 Hz, 5:1, 448 kb/s Stream #0.6[0x81]: Audio: liba52, 48000 Hz, stereo, 192 kb/s Stream #0.7[0x82]: Audio: liba52, 48000 Hz, stereo, 192 kb/s Stream #0.8[0x83]: Audio: liba52, 48000 Hz, stereo, 192 kb/s Stream #0.9[0x84]: Audio: liba52, 48000 Hz, stereo, 192 kb/s Output #0, avi, to 'dvd.avi': Stream #0.0: Video: mpeg2video, yuv420p, 720x480 [PAR 0:1 DAR 0:1], q=2-31, 9800 kb/s, 29.97 tb(c) Stream #0.1: Audio: ac3, 48000 Hz, 5:1, 448 kb/s Stream mapping: Stream #0.0 -> #0.0 Stream #0.5 -> #0.1 Press [q] to stop encoding error, non monotone timestamps 348 >= 348 av_interleaved_write_frame(): Error while opening file Is this an mplayer problem? mplayer isn't reliable as a tool to test the correctness of a stream

Fair enough. I also tried: tcprobe -i dvd.vob [tcprobe] MPEG program stream (PS) [tcprobe] summary for dvd.vob, (*) = not default, 0 = not detected import frame size: -g 720x480 [720x576] (*) aspect ratio: 4:3 (*) frame rate: -f 29.970 [25.000] frc=4 (*) PTS=0.0887, frame_time=33 ms, bitrate=7700 kbps audio track: -a 0 [0] -e 48000,16,2 [48000,16,2] -n 0x2000 [0x2000] PTS=0.0887, bitrate=192 kbps -D 0 --av_fine_ms 0 (frames & ms) [0] [0] Is there a reliable tool to test correctness? Is there a way ffmpeg can transform a dvd to a vob or avi file directly? Thanks for any help. sean

it is correct: timer resets are allowed in dvds
Is there a way ffmpeg can transform a dvd to a vob or avi file directly?
IIRC even with "non monotone" timestamps ffmpegs still remuxes pretty well
