Do * really need streaming software on the server side to have MPEGs start playing on a WindowsXP+IE+WMP combo as soon as download begins instead of waiting for the end of download? Or is there some IE and/or WMP config and/or plugin allowing that? -- Michel Bardiaux R&D Director T +32 [0] 2 790 29 41 F +32 [0] 2 790 29 02 E mailto:mbardiaux at mediaxim.be Mediaxim NV/SA Vorstlaan 191 Boulevard du Souverain Brussel 1160 Bruxelles http://www.mediaxim.com/

MediaFrame... it seems interesting... it's open source. So you use the FFMpeg's Mpeg4 codec in an AVI container and this applet to play the clips...?

Yes in fact, I did this for a time directly from the church, (380 kbs up) but with the growing assistance on the web streaming, I'me steaming now through hour web page with the "AMAZING" "REVOLUTIONARY" "INCREDIBLE" picostreamer, http://www.vinz486.com normaly, it's just done for mp3 unlimited streaming redistribution, but with some small tweak, I've been hable to stream my content ,audio-video in mpg (mpg1) through the web hosting at 100 meg. per seg. Here you've got all you need to try it, it's the forum page where we work'it out with Vinz, the author of picostreamer http://www.vinz486.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=230

Mmm... I don't think you can with MPEG-1... Progressive streaming of a clip without a streaming software... the only way that work with my system is encoding the clips using the M$ codec ( MSMPEG4 V? ) using the combo ( Win+IE+WMP or Win+IE+MPC )

Maybe but why?

MSMPEG4 is a codec, not a format. I think its the format that counts. Anyway, from my last web searches, it looks like its not a question of having a server-side streamer, just that the movie has to be given in the HTML not as a simple file url, but as an embedding of an OCX. -- Michel Bardiaux R&D Director T +32 [0] 2 790 29 41 F +32 [0] 2 790 29 02 E mailto:mbardiaux at mediaxim.be Mediaxim NV/SA Vorstlaan 191 Boulevard du Souverain Brussel 1160 Bruxelles http://www.mediaxim.com/

I don't know if it's a matter of codec or container... I can only tell you what I tested. If I use the FFMpeg's MPeg4 codec ( in a MOV container ) WMP have to download the entire clip and then it plays it. If I use the FFMpeg's M$Mpeg4 codec V? ( 3 perhaps, I don't remember what I used ) ( in a MOV container ) WMP can stream it ( from a simple URL )

Ok, in this way you work on the client side... I suppose it works in this way but where do you find a free OCX ( or ActiveX or COM or whatever ) player ? It's like to use a Java Applet player, but you don't have to install the JRE because there is Windows than run the object. I tried to create a simple ActiveX component times ago but it seems so hard without using MFC... :( I would like to find some good docs/tuts on how to build an ActiveX using only Win32API in BCC 5.5.1...

This sounds the simplest solution. I'll try it. Thanks.
