I'm trying to extract a frame from an M4V file using code based on Martin Bohme's tutorial. The main loops reads a bunch of packets from the appropriate stream, but suddenly crashes with the following (strange-looking) stack trace: apFile.dll!_ac3_common_init() + 0x28433 apFile.dll!_ac3_common_init() + 0x295b0 apFile.dll!_ac3_common_init() + 0x31dbd apFile.dll!_ac3_common_init() + 0x33b63 apFile.dll!_ac3_common_init() + 0x345b0 apFile.dll!_avcodec_decode_video() + 0xf2 I am linking the MingW32-build libav* libraries to my C++ application, built with MSVC7.1. I am using the latest CVS snapshot since the server is down. The file in question has the following streams: Input #0, mov,mp4,m4a,3gp,3g2,mj2, from 'myfile.m4v': Duration: 00:02:30.2, start: 0.000000, bitrate: 672 kb/s Stream #0.0(eng): Audio: mp4a / 0x6134706D, 44100 Hz, stereo Stream #0.1(eng), 23.98 fps(r): Video: h264, yuv420p, 320x132 FFMpeg seems to be able to read and convert the file without a problem. Can anyone tell me why this is crashing? Thanks in advance, Matt

More info. http://www.allpeers.com/blog/downloads/da_vinci_code-tsr2_p320.m4v This is the full 12Mb file. I can upload a truncated version if you prefer (and if this will be sufficient to diagnose the problem). Cheers, Matt

I tried the file with ffmpeg svn and there was no crash. MvH Benjamin Larsson -- "incorrect information" is an oxymoron. Information is, by definition, factual, correct.

See my original comment. It doesn't crash with my FFMpeg build either, but it does crash when using Martin Bohme's frame extraction code (http://www.inb.uni-luebeck.de/~boehme/using_libavcodec.html). So it might be a problem with that example but it works for all the other formats I've tried that are FFMpeg-supported. Matt
