Re: [FFmpeg-user] [MPlayer-users] Windows command line & log
Hi All, This is actually a question about MPlayer. I'm hoping I can get the answer here that I couldn't get via mplayer-user. Carl Eugen Hoyos recommends concatenating VOBs via 'mplayer -dumpstream'. MPlayer seems to have a mind of its own. No matter what I tell it, it wants to concatenate j:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_05_1.VOB+j:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_05_2.VOB+j:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_05_3.VOB. Look... h:\VIDEO_TS\VIDEO_TS.VOB "THE FALCON AND THE SNOWMAN" h:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_0.VOB "THE FALCON AND THE SNOWMAN" menu h:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_1.VOB "THE FALCON AND THE SNOWMAN" movie h:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_2.VOB h:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_3.VOB h:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_4.VOB h:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_5.VOB h:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_6.VOB h:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_02_0.VOB MGM splash screens & miscellanea h:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_02_1.VOB j:\VIDEO_TS\VIDEO_TS.VOB "PATTON" special features j:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_0.VOB j:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_1.VOB j:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_02_1.VOB 20th Century Fox splash screen j:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_03_1.VOB Deluxe Digital splash screen j:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_04_0.VOB "PATTON" slide show j:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_04_1.VOB j:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_05_0.VOB "PATTON" special features menu j:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_05_1.VOB "HISTORY THROUGH THE LENS, PATTON, A REBEL REVISITED" j:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_05_2.VOB j:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_05_3.VOB j:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_06_0.VOB "PATTON" special features menu j:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_06_1.VOB "PATTON, A TRIBUTE TO FRANKLIN J. Neither was protected. This command line: MPlayer h:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_0.IFO dvd://1 -dumpstream -dumpfile "THE FALCON AND THE SNOWMAN - MPLAYER.IFO.VOB" Opened MPlayer & played "THE FALCON AND THE SNOWMAN" movie The stream recorded was "HISTORY THROUGH THE LENS, PATTON, A REBEL REVISITED" This command line: MPlayer h:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_0.IFO dvd://0 -dumpstream -dumpfile "THE FALCON AND THE SNOWMAN - MPLAYER.VOB" Opened MPlayer & played "THE FALCON AND THE SNOWMAN" movie. The stream recorded was "HISTORY THROUGH THE LENS, PATTON, A REBEL REVISITED". The MPlayer documentation is very nice, but it's oriented to Linux. Any ideas out there regarding how to construct a command line for Windows? Of course, I'd prefer not to have to actually run the movie to get the concatenated VOBs. Thanks much, Mark.

(Since you have in the past reprimanded me for my exact wording) This is not true, if this were about concatenation, the concat protocol would of course work fine.

No. [...] Please test both command lines I suggested after verifying which "numbers" provide the right track (the one you want to re-encode) as suggested by Erik, there is some indication in your messages that "1" is not the right choice. Carl Eugen

Hi, Carl Eugen. Thanks for replying. The concat protocol doesn't work for me. When I use it to concatenate VOBs, I get similar PTS problems that I'm experiencing with the 'interleave' filter. The issue is moot because I found a concatenation method that works (see below).

No.
Yes. I know it's hard to believe, but yes. I point mplayer to one DVD drive and it concatenates VOBs from a different DVD drive (as shown in the original post).

Carl Eugen
I did test both command lines (and many more variations). The problem seems to be that I have multiple DVD drives. It's sort of moot now. I'm using mkvmerge now. It works. Regards, Mark.

What's going wrong with my remux?
I believe that you have already been told that you cannot generally concatenate vob files as you did, use mplayer -dumpstream.
Carl Eugen
By the way, I had not "already been told", but you were probably thinking of someone else (which is totally understandable).
(Since you have in the past reprimanded me for my exact wording)
I'm sorry you feel that way. I would never knowingly reprimand you or anyone.

It exhibits PTS problems. Playback of the concatenated VOBs is wrong in many ways that can be explained most easily by PTS errors.

He has indeed already been told, by me, twice.
I addition to posting malicious code designed to wipe out a naive reader's primary hard drive, you're a liar, Mr. George.
