gif animated in ffmpeg
just checked ffmpeg documentation and google and did't find any good solution to create animated gif via ffmpeg. my command line is ffmpeg -i $1 -s 254x138 -r 1 -t 10 -pix_fmt rgb24 $1.gif and I get as expected 10 frames long animated gif. But, as I would get some fine tuning like: 1. dithering: I get very poor color depth: how can I improve this? 2. looping: I try -loop 0 but still I don't get a looping output. 3. compression: indeed in documentation (http://ffmpeg.mplayerhq.hu/general.html ) is referred "Only uncompressed GIFs are generated." I found a workaround to do the job, but non directly in ffmpeg: ffmpeg -i input.ext -r 1 -t 10 frame%3d.jpg convert -delay 25 -loop 0 *.jpg animation.gif Does anybody have any suggestion to do it in ffmpeg or si that a known limitation? Thank you DR

Hi, unfortunately seems all these feature are currently not implemented in FFmpeg, so patches are welcome (and the famous GIF compression patent also has expired, so there are not anymore legal constraints for that). As for the loop it should be (almost) trivial to implement it. Feel free to file a feature request on roundup, this could be a pretty feasible task for some FFmpeg lover ;-).
