Is there any function in ffmpeg that lets you know what type of frame (i frame, b frame, etc) a certain frame # is? I am assuming some form of mpeg stream but I am curious if there is any sort of codec that I could extract this info from. If not with ffmpeg, does anyone have a suggestion as to what I could use to get this information?

possibly you could use the "-vstats" command which gives you a logfile where information for every frame is stored also the frametype.

Also you can use ffprobe -show_frames. HTH, regards. -- ffmpeg-user random tip #4 ffmpeg -i FILE prints information about the container format and the streams in a file.
