gif animated in ffmpeg
From: Stefano Sabatini <stefano.sabatini-lala at poste.it>
1. dithering: I get very poor color depth: how can I improve this? 2. looping: I try -loop 0 but still I don't get a looping output. 3. compression: indeed in documentation (http://ffmpeg.mplayerhq.hu/general.html ) is referred "Only uncompressed GIFs are generated."
Hi, unfortunately seems all these feature are currently not implemented in FFmpeg, so patches are welcome (and the famous GIF compression patent also has expired, so there are not anymore legal constraints for that). As for the loop it should be (almost) trivial to implement it.
Feel free to file a feature request on roundup, this could be a pretty feasible task for some FFmpeg lover ;-).
thank you stefano, for pathches I would like to write one but I can't go further a "five lines script". Indeed, I wrote a script automating conversion to gif in mac os using ffmpeg and convert and deleting temporary files. So for my use the problem is solved, and if somebody need the script I can share it. For roundup I got a vague idea in google what you are talking about: https://roundup.mplayerhq.hu/roundup/ffmpeg/ https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/bugtrackers/ffmpeg-roundup I will register and fill a feature request. For those interested in gif optimisation in open source I recomend this article,: http://piao-tech.blogspot.com/2008/02/reduce-gif-size-using-rmagick.html regards daniele
