And yes ffmpeg should be able to automatically pick up meaningful values from the device, patch is welcome... Do you mean it is already available in libavdevice, but needs to be set right in ffmpeg? Thanks, -V

libavdevice/v4l.c provides an interface to the video4linux API (defined in linux/videodev.h and videodev2.h) which permits to set and query the capabilities of the device. Regards. -- ffmpeg-user random tip #16 Patches are welcome!
