Same number of frames dropped and duplicated; What does that mean?
Hi, so 18.3 % of the frames were dropped and duplicated at same time. Does that mean, that 8063 frames of the input were dropped and then same (or other) 8064 frames were duplicated to the output? What is the sense of this? Maybe the original didn't have the exact framerate of 25 fps ? Would it make sense to find the original frame rate and set the output frame rate to that value to avoid the duplicates? ffmpeg -i Raik\ Garve\ -\ Sinn\ des\ Lebens\ -\ Berufung\ -\ Aufgabe\ der\ Probably variable frame rate input.
What is the sense of this?
Maybe the original didn't have the exact framerate of 25 fps ?
Would it make sense to find the original frame rate and set the output frame rate to that value to avoid the duplicates?

Probably variable frame rate input.
When I use "-fps-mode passthroug", then I get messages of frames with the same timestamp, so ffmpeg seems to drop them in normal mode and then fills in duplicates. Am I right? What do the numbers mean, are this nano seconds ? (the ffmpeg docs don't outline this)
https://ffmpeg.org/ffmpeg-filters.html#toc-vfrdet At end it will output number of frames detected as having variable delta pts, and ones with constant delta pts. If there was frames with variable delta, than it will also show min, max and average delta encountered. You can increase output framerate for constant frame rate video until errors about dropped frames disappear. Or save it to container that support variable frame rate. Could also inspect those frames and see if they have any real info and are not dupes of some other frames, either manually or using some filters.

In your linked document this is not mentioned.

Does this mean to use "-fps_mode passthrough"? As a first try, I have used "-fps_mode drop". This resulted in a video with 1110244 fps instead 25. Weird !
Could also inspect those frames and see if they have any real info and are not dupes of some other frames, either manually or using some filters.
Good idea ! -Ulf

At end it will output number of frames detected as having variable delta pts, and ones with constant delta pts. If there was frames with variable delta, than it will also show min, max and average delta encountered. Yes I understand, but in which unit the delta is measured, is it nano seconds or what? In your linked document this is not mentioned.
delta PTS is PTS difference, so unit is rational from stream timebase. Nobody sane uses nano seconds.
You can increase output framerate for constant frame rate video until errors about dropped frames disappear. Or save it to container that support variable frame rate.
Good idea !

What do the numbers mean, are this nano seconds ? (the ffmpeg docs don't outline this)
That's a good question. I also don't know the answer. Michael
hello I used this setting for youtube stream, but the attached link has the code for a plain video file, it might work for you too < https://community.antmedia.io/topic/1532-youtube-saying-please-use-a-keyfram...
the setup is: ffmpeg -i input.mp4 -qscale 0 -g 2 outputFile.mp4 I use this option : -qscale 0 -g 2 must be written strictly before the output R. 2023. 10. 29. 15:29 keltezéssel, Ulf Zibis írta:
Hi,
so 18.3 % of the frames were dropped and duplicated at same time.
